Abia Poly Cut-Off Mark for Business Administration and Management 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

The Abia Poly cut off mark for Business Administration and Management is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100; no departmental figure is published. See the safe target score, subject combination, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The Abia Poly cut off mark for Business Administration and Management is 100 in the UTME, the national minimum JAMB set for polytechnics for 2026/2027. Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba (still listed by JAMB as Abia State Polytechnic) has published no separate cut-off for ND Business Administration. A “120 and above” figure circulates on blogs, but it is unofficial.

2027/2028 update: Abia Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Business Administration was on the course list in the polytechnic’s 2025/2026 ND/HND advert, so it is an established course there. Below you will find the verified figures, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subject combination, the O’level rules, what is known about screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

The only official numbers are JAMB’s: 100 for polytechnics in 2025 and in 2026. Abia Poly has not announced a figure for Business Administration in any year I could find.

Safe target score for Business Administration and Management at Abia Poly (my advice)

This table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. It is not an Abia Poly rule, and the school has not published merit lists with scores.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Business Administration and Management at Abia Poly
Below 100Not eligible for any ND course this session
100 to 119Eligible, but borderline
120 to 149Fair to good chance
150 to 169Competitive
170 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 150 or more, with credits in English, Mathematics and Economics or Commerce.

Catchment and state of origin

Abia Poly is owned by the Abia State Government, but it has not published a catchment list or a quota split for 2026/2027. It admits candidates from every state. I would not count on any indigene advantage unless the school’s own notice mentions one.

Abia Poly Business Administration subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Business Administration and Management
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts and Economics
O’levelFive credits including English Language (not Literature) and Mathematics, plus three from Economics/Commerce, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Geography, Government, Biology/Agricultural Science and other listed subjects
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO and NABTEB are the usual ones
SittingsNot stated by Abia Poly
Abia Poly remark in the brochureNone
Interview or practicalNone published

Mathematics is compulsory in the UTME. Economics and Commerce make the most natural pair for the other two, since management, marketing and business economics build on both. Government or Principles of Accounts also satisfy the brochure.

The advert reprint mentions “at least four (4) Passes” at SSCE or NECO, but the text is truncated and JAMB asks for five credits. Plan with five credits, including English and Mathematics.

Direct Entry and the HND route

The ND has no Direct Entry route. Business Administration ND admission is through the UTME and CAPS. HND Business Administration applications go straight to the polytechnic after your ND and industrial attachment, without CAPS.

For HND admission, a blog (schoolings.org, page updated 12 March 2026) reprinted a notice it credits to the polytechnic’s management: a ₦5,000 form, five O’level credits, an ND at Lower Credit or above, a one-year industrial attachment, and a screening test with no make-up date. I have not seen the original notice, so treat those details as unconfirmed.

How Abia Poly screening works

I could not find an official 2026/2027 screening notice from Abia Poly. Its website did not load for me, and Myschool, which usually reprints polytechnic adverts, has none for this session. What follows comes from the 2025/2026 advert reprinted by Myschool and from a blog description of the 2026/2027 form, so check every detail on the portal.

The exam slip in the blog description suggests a written or computer test. Abia Poly has not said how it weighs that test against your UTME score.

Worked example for an ND Business Administration and Management applicant

Abia Poly has no published aggregate, so begin with the score margins. Take Ifeanyi, who scored 146 with credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce and Civic Education from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 146 minus 100 = 46. He clears JAMB’s minimum easily.
  2. Against the blog figure: 146 minus 120 = 26.
  3. Against my safe target: 150 minus 146 = 4. He is just under the competitive band, so his screening performance matters.
  4. O’level check: English, Mathematics, Economics and Commerce are all on the list. He should confirm that Civic Education counts, or rely on a fifth listed subject.

Many Nigerian polytechnics rank candidates by a mix of UTME score and screening score. Purely to show how such a mix works, take the UTME score divided by 8 (out of 50) plus a screening score out of 50. Ifeanyi’s 146 gives 18.25, and a screening score of 34 out of 50 would bring him to 52.25 out of 100, ahead of a candidate with 170 and a screening score of 28 (49.25). This formula is an illustration only. Abia Poly has not published one.

Your chances of getting Business Administration and Management at Abia Poly

  • Business Administration is one of the larger business departments in most polytechnics, so admission is competitive but not as tight as Accountancy usually is.
  • Scores from the high 130s upward, with clean O’level results, give you a fair chance.
  • If you are offered Office Technology and Management or Purchasing and Supply instead, consider it. Both are in the same school.
  • Polytechnics had until 31 December 2026 to finish 2026/2027 admissions, so offers can arrive late.

Aba is a big trading city, and Business Administration students often find industrial attachment places in local firms and markets. That is a practical plus when you compare polytechnics.

How to apply for Business Administration at Abia Poly, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: pick Business Administration and Management with English, Mathematics and two of Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts, Government and Geography. JAMB still lists the school as Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, even though it was renamed Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic in November 2024.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: if Abia Poly was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens. To move into this course from another one, see JAMB change of course.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB accredited centre. JAMB cannot offer you admission while CAPS shows no O’level result.
  5. Fill the screening form: on the Abia Poly applicant portal (portal.abiastatepolytechnic.edu.ng), generate the invoice, pay, complete the form, upload your documents, and print the acknowledgement and exam slip.
  6. Sit the screening: go with your slip, UTME result slip and O’level results if a test is held.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: Abia Poly has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only through an invoice generated on the school portal, then complete clearance.

Warning

Admission into Abia Poly comes through JAMB CAPS. If anyone offers you a “special list” slot for money, walk away. A genuine offer appears on your CAPS page, and genuine school payments are made through a portal invoice in your name.

If you still need to sit the UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and when results come out, see how to check your JAMB result.

Studying Business Administration and Management at Abia Poly

Business Administration and Management is taught in the School of Business and Management Technology at the Aba campus on the Aba to Owerri Road. The ND covers how businesses are organised, run and marketed.

What you study

  • Principles of management and organisational behaviour
  • Principles of marketing and salesmanship
  • Business law and business communication
  • Principles of accounting and business mathematics or statistics
  • Entrepreneurship and small business management
  • Human resource management basics, computer applications and general studies

Duration and accreditation

Under the standard NBTE structure, the ND runs for two years full time. Students who want the HND then do a one-year industrial attachment (SIWES or IT) before applying, and the HND usually asks for an ND at Lower Credit or above. Abia Poly has not published a course-specific timetable, so treat this as the national pattern.

On accreditation, the history matters. In 2022 the NBTE withdrew Abia State Polytechnic’s accreditation, and reports said students were barred from NYSC mobilisation. The Abia State Government announced on 1 September 2022 that accreditation had been restored after it released ₦450 million and held talks with the NBTE. I could not confirm the current NBTE status of ND Business Administration and Management itself, so ask the department, or check the NBTE’s list, before you pay fees.

Careers after the ND

  • Administrative, sales and marketing assistant roles
  • Running or managing a small business
  • Customer relations roles in banks, telecoms and retail
  • HND Business Administration and Management, then professional management bodies or a university degree

Mistakes that cost Business Administration applicants

  • Choosing Literature or CRS in the UTME: neither is on the brochure list for this course.
  • No Mathematics credit: the O’level requirement names it.
  • O’level not uploaded to CAPS: admission cannot be processed.
  • Paying anyone for a “slot”: offers come through CAPS.
  • Ignoring a CAPS transfer offer: a related course can be a sensible fallback.

Abia Poly Business Administration: frequently asked questions

Is Mathematics compulsory in JAMB for Business Administration in Abia Poly? Yes. JAMB’s polytechnic brochure lists Mathematics as compulsory for Business Administration and Management, and Abia Poly has no remark changing that.

Is 140 a good score for Business Administration in Abia Poly? It is 40 above the 100 minimum and above the unofficial 120, so you are eligible with a fair chance. I would still aim for 150 or more to be safe.

Does Abia Poly offer part-time ND Business Administration? Myschool reprinted Abia Poly adverts for ND part-time (evening) admission in past years, including 2015/2016 and 2017/2018. No 2026/2027 part-time advert was available, so ask the school.

How long is ND Business Administration at Abia Poly? An ND normally runs for two years full time under NBTE rules. To go on to HND, you then do a one-year industrial attachment.

The course list is from Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic’s 2025/2026 ND/HND admission advert reprinted by Myschool (26 July 2025) and the Myschool list of Abia State Polytechnic courses. Past part-time adverts are from Myschool news headlines (2015/2016 and 2017/2018). The “120 and above” figure and the screening form steps are from o3schools (3 February 2026) and are unofficial. The HND details are from a schoolings.org reprint (12 March 2026) that I could not match to an original notice. The renaming to Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic on 7 November 2024 and the school’s location are from Wikipedia and news reports of the renaming. The 2022 accreditation withdrawal and restoration are from news reports and the Abia State Government (1 September 2022). The safe target scores and the worked example are my own advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when Abia Poly publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
