CCU Taxation Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

Coal City University uses JAMB’s 150 minimum for Taxation and publishes no departmental cut-off. See the JAMB subjects, the Economics O’level rule, screening, a safe target score, CAPS steps and the programme’s NUC status.

The CCU Taxation cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the minimum JAMB set for all Nigerian universities at its 2026 policy meeting. Coal City University, Enugu has not published a separate Taxation cut-off, and it did not declare its own figure at that meeting, so 150 is the floor. Taxation is on JAMB’s course list for CCU and on CCU’s own list of degree programmes, though NUC has not yet published an accreditation result for it.

2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Below you will find the exact JAMB course name, the UTME subjects, the O’level credits the brochure asks for, what CCU has and has not published about screening, a worked example, a safe target score, the CAPS steps and what a Taxation degree leads to. I also explain what the missing NUC result means for you and what to ask CCU before you pay.

Does CCU really offer Taxation?

Yes, on the evidence available. CCU’s Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences page says the faculty has three departments and fifteen degree programmes, and Taxation is the last one named, after Sociology. The university’s About page lists it too. JAMB’s course list for CCU carries it under the plain name “Taxation”.

Three things are still unclear, and you should know them before you register:

  • No NUC result yet: the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026, lists CCU programmes such as Accounting, Business Administration and Economics, but has no Taxation entry. NUC normally accredits a new programme once its first students reach the later years, so a missing entry often means the programme is young. It can also mean it has not taken off.
  • Shorter course list on the same page: the faculty page’s “Courses” section names only eight degrees (Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Mass Communication, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology and International Relations). Taxation is in the faculty’s longer list of fifteen but not in that section.
  • 2026/2027 advert: Myschool’s reprint of CCU’s 2026/2027 advert cuts off before this faculty’s list, so I could not see whether Taxation was advertised this year.

None of that stops you applying. It does mean you should ask CCU two questions before paying acceptance: is Taxation admitting in 2027/2028, and has NUC approved it? A programme with NUC approval that is waiting for its first accreditation visit is normal at a young university. One with no approval is not.

Safe target score for Taxation at CCU (my advice)

CCU does not publish the score of its last admitted candidate, so this table is my advice, not a CCU rule. Taxation draws far fewer applicants than Accounting, and private universities in Enugu usually admit close to 150.

Your UTME scoreMy read for CCU Taxation
Below 150Not eligible for any university this session
150 to 164Eligible; a place is likely if your O’level is complete and you apply early
165 to 184Comfortable for Taxation at CCU
185 and aboveStrong, and it keeps Accounting at CCU and other Enugu universities open

I would aim for at least 170 in the 2027 UTME. Most Taxation candidates also consider Accounting, and a higher score keeps that door open.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Taxation at CCU

The JAMB brochure entry for Taxation, reprinted by Myschool and checked on 30 October 2026, has no special remark for CCU, so the general rule below applies.

RequirementTaxation at CCU
JAMB course name to registerTaxation (Coal City University)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, one Social Science subject and any other subject
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (CCU has not published its own list)
SittingsNot stated by CCU; one sitting is safer
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes in Accounting or Economics and one other subject; NCE merit in relevant subjects; ND at credit level; or a foundation-level professional exam such as ICAN, ACCA, ICMA or GPFA

Which UTME subjects should you pick?

Mathematics is fixed. For the Social Science subject, Economics is the obvious choice because the O’level rule already demands an Economics credit, so you study one syllabus for both. For the fourth subject, Financial Accounting or Commerce makes sense if you took them in school; Government works too. A combination such as English, Mathematics, Economics and Financial Accounting also fits Accounting at most universities, which is useful if you change course later.

The O’level detail people miss

The UTME rule does not force Economics, but the O’level rule does. A candidate who writes Government in JAMB and has no Economics credit meets one rule and fails the other. Check your result slip for Economics before you register.

How CCU screening works for Taxation

Worked example for a Taxation candidate

CCU has not published an aggregate formula or a written test, so I won’t make one up. You can still measure your margin over the minimum and over my safe target.

Take Adaeze, who scored 164 with B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, B3 in Economics, C4 in Financial Accounting and C5 in Commerce in one NECO sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 164 minus 150 = 14. She clears the national minimum by 14 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 170 minus 164 = 6. She is a little under the range I call comfortable, but Taxation at a private university rarely needs more.
  3. O’level check: English, Mathematics and Economics, plus Financial Accounting and Commerce as the two relevant subjects. All credits, one sitting.
  4. What I would advise: confirm with CCU that Taxation is admitting, apply as soon as the portal opens and upload her O’level to CAPS straight away.

Now Tobenna, who scored 181 but has a D7 in Economics. His score is fine, yet he misses the O’level rule. He should resit Economics in the WAEC GCE or NECO November series before CAPS processing, or pick a course whose O’level he meets.

Admission odds and practical advice

  • Score is rarely the problem: above 150, a complete O’level, an early application and a correct CAPS profile decide most Taxation admissions at CCU.
  • Confirm the programme status: ask for 2027/2028 admission into Taxation and its NUC approval in writing or on the portal course list.
  • Make CCU your first choice: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution before CCU proposes candidates on CAPS.
  • Keep a Plan B inside CCU: Accounting, Economics and Business Administration hold Full NUC accreditation and share the same core subjects.
  • Mind the deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities.

How to apply for Taxation at CCU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Confirm the course first: ask CCU’s admissions office to confirm Taxation is open for 2027/2028. It is on CCU’s own list, so this is usually a quick check.
  3. Register the UTME correctly: choose Coal City University and the course “Taxation”, with Use of English, Mathematics, your Social Science subject (Economics is best) and one other subject.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. CCU cannot recommend you for admission without it.
  5. Apply on the CCU portal: open portal.ccu.edu.ng, fill the undergraduate form, pay the fee the portal shows and print your slip.
  6. Watch for screening: CCU has not published a screening date or format, so check the portal and ccu.edu.ng after you apply.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: CCU has not published its acceptance or tuition fees in any source I could open, so pay only what your portal invoice shows, into the university’s account.

Warning

Forum and classified-site posts sell “CCU admission forms” and list private phone numbers. Apply only through portal.ccu.edu.ng, never pay an individual for a “slot”, and remember that every genuine offer must show on your JAMB CAPS page.

Studying Taxation at CCU

Taxation sits in CCU’s Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences. The dean, Professor Joseph Ifeanyi Aneke, is a Professor of Insurance. The faculty page describes a core curriculum that every student takes alongside the degree: general studies, employability skills, entrepreneurship, and creative and critical thinking.

Accreditation

The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 lists Full accreditation for CCU’s Accounting and Business Administration (maturity 2029), Economics (2029) and Public Administration (2026), but has no Taxation entry. I also found no NUC report page for CCU Taxation. So the status is not confirmed. Its neighbouring programmes in the same faculty all scored well at their last visits, which tells you about the faculty, though not about Taxation itself.

What you study

CCU has not put its Taxation outline online. A standard four-year B.Sc. Taxation in Nigeria covers:

  • 100 and 200 levels: financial accounting, economics, business mathematics, statistics, introduction to taxation and general studies.
  • 300 level: personal income tax, company income tax, value added tax, tax administration, tax law and an industrial placement (SIWES).
  • 400 level: international taxation, tax planning, auditing and investigation, public finance and a research project.

Nigeria’s tax system was overhauled by the reform laws signed in 2025, so expect your lecturers to teach the new framework, not the older statutes many online notes still quote.

Careers

Taxation graduates work in state internal revenue services, tax and audit firms, company finance departments, consulting and public finance. Many go on to the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) exams and ICAN. Ask CCU whether its graduates get CITN exemptions; I could not confirm one.

Taxation elsewhere in Enugu

IMT Enugu announced Taxation as a new programme in June 2026, but it was not yet on IMT’s JAMB list when we checked. Read our IMT Taxation cut-off mark guide for the details. Abia State Polytechnic runs Taxation at ND level; see the Abia Poly Taxation cut-off mark.

Mistakes that cost Taxation applicants a CCU place

  • No Economics credit: the O’level rule needs it even if your UTME social science is Government.
  • No Mathematics in the UTME: it is fixed for Taxation.
  • O’level not on CAPS: without it CCU cannot recommend you, whatever your score.
  • Leaving CCU as second choice: fix it before the admission list goes up.
  • Paying agents: the form is on the CCU portal; no one can sell you a place.

CCU Taxation cut-off mark: frequently asked questions

Is 160 enough for Taxation at Coal City University? Yes. 160 clears the 150 minimum, which is the only cut-off that applies at CCU. A complete O’level and an early application matter more after that.

Can I write Government instead of Economics for Taxation in JAMB? Yes, the brochure accepts any Social Science subject with Mathematics, but you still need an Economics credit in your O’level.

Is CCU Taxation accredited by NUC? NUC has not published an accreditation result for CCU Taxation yet. Ask CCU for its NUC approval before you pay acceptance.

Can I enter CCU Taxation by Direct Entry with ND? The brochure accepts ND at credit level, A-level passes in Accounting or Economics, NCE merit or ICAN-type foundation exams. CCU has not published its own DE rules, so confirm with the admissions office.

Sources and updates

The 150 national minimum, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). CCU’s absence from the declared list is based on News Central’s list of 2026 university cut-offs (11 May 2026). The JAMB course name and subject rules come from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s CCU course list and the brochure entry for Taxation, both checked on 30 October 2026. CCU’s programme list, core curriculum and dean are from its Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences page (last updated 31 August 2023) and its About page. Accreditation was checked against NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (September 2026). The 2026/2027 advert is from Myschool’s reprint (18 May 2026); the form fee is from AbsTechConnect (25 May 2026), which is unofficial. Checked on 30 October 2026; this page will be updated if CCU publishes a departmental cut-off or NUC publishes a Taxation result.
