The MOUAU Fisheries cut off mark is 150 in the UTME for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. The 2026/2027 screening notice set that one minimum for all courses; MOUAU did not publish a separate Fisheries figure.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management is a department in the College of Natural Resources and Environmental Management (CNREM). Getting 150 lets you register for screening; what decides admission is how you rank. Below are the official figures, my safe target score, the UTME subjects (with a Physics point many candidates miss), MOUAU’s O’level and Direct Entry remarks, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

MOUAU Fisheries cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Lowest UTME score MOUAU accepted for screening in any course, with MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice, reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026 |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for every Nigerian university | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | Blogs repeat 150, but the older Myschool page now redirects to the 2026 article | Unverified |
| Fisheries departmental figure | None published | Blog “departmental cut-off” lists cite no MOUAU document | Unofficial |
There is no official Fisheries-only figure for any year. Blog tables that print one do not cite a MOUAU document.
Safe target score for Fisheries at MOUAU (my advice)
MOUAU does not publish the last score admitted per course. Fisheries usually attracts fewer applicants than the health and engineering courses, but you are still ranked. This is my advice, not a MOUAU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Fisheries |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any MOUAU course |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; your O’level grades will decide most of it |
| 170 to 189 | A reasonable chance with clean credits in one sitting |
| 190 and above | Strong |
I would aim for at least 175, ideally 190, with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology plus another science, and at least a pass in Physics.
Catchment and merit
MOUAU is federal, so admission mixes merit, catchment and educationally less developed states under the federal guidelines. MOUAU has not published its split, so do not count on catchment to cover a weak score.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Fisheries
| Requirement | Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management |
|---|---|
| UTME (general line) | Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any other science subject |
| UTME remark | “MOUA requires Chemistry, Physics and Biology” (appears to mean MOUAU) |
| UTME I recommend | Use of English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics |
| O’level (MOUAU remark) | Five credits at not more than two sittings: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any other science subject |
| Physics | At least an O’level pass (MOUAU remark) |
| Agricultural Science | A credit in it must be backed by at least a pass in Biology |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
The general UTME line on the JAMB brochure, as reprinted by Myschool, is Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and any other science subject. Under it sits a special remark: “MOUA requires Chemistry, Physics and Biology”. The abbreviation “MOUA” is not expanded on the page, but the other remarks on the same entry are MOUAU’s, and this course name belongs to MOUAU’s CNREM. I read it as a typing slip for MOUAU.
Write English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics to satisfy both the general line and the remark. Mathematics or Agricultural Science as your fourth subject fits the general line but may not satisfy the MOUAU remark, and I would not risk it. Many blogs give “Physics or Mathematics” here; the remark does not offer that choice.
For O’level, MOUAU’s remark wants five credits at no more than two sittings covering English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and another science. It also asks for at least a pass in Physics. If your biology-type credit is Agricultural Science, you need at least a pass in Biology as well. Since you are writing Physics in the UTME, a credit in Physics is the cleanest combination.
Direct Entry
The general brochure line accepts two A-level passes from Chemistry, Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Geology and Economics, and also NCE (Agriculture). MOUAU’s own remark says it accepts ND or HND in related fields. MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice gave no further Direct Entry details, so ask the admissions office which level a diploma holder enters.
How MOUAU screens Fisheries applicants
The 2026/2027 screening notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, and reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so the details below come from that reprint.
| Detail | What the 2026/2027 notice said |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | 150 or more in the 2026 UTME with MOUAU as first choice; candidates with another first choice could change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Opening date | 6 June 2026, online through mouau.edu.ng |
| Portal | portal.mouau.edu.ng (payment problems: portal@mouau.edu.ng) |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded so they show on JAMB CAPS |
| Awaiting results | Do not register until the result is released |
| Ranking | UTME score, with O’level grades and the number of sittings both weighted |
| Closing date and test date | Not given in the reprint |
The reprint does not mention a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I will not say one was held. Check the portal after registering for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for Fisheries candidates
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how the parts interact, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not MOUAU’s formula. Both candidates below wrote English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.
- Chiamaka scored 181 with B3 in English, B3 in Mathematics, B2 in Chemistry, B2 in Biology and C4 in Physics from one sitting. UTME points: 181 ÷ 8 = 22.63. O’level points: 8 + 8 + 9 + 9 + 7 = 41. Illustrative total: 63.63.
- Obinna scored 198 with C5 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C5 in Chemistry, C4 in Agricultural Science and C6 in Physics over two sittings, with an E8 in Biology. UTME points: 198 ÷ 8 = 24.75. O’level points: 6 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 5 = 29. Illustrative total: 53.75.
- Why Chiamaka leads: she is ahead by 9.88 points despite a lower UTME. Obinna’s E8 in Biology is a pass, so his Agricultural Science credit still counts, but his weaker grades and second sitting cost him.
If Obinna had failed Biology outright, his Agricultural Science credit would not count for MOUAU and he would be one credit short. Check that detail on your own result.
How to apply for Fisheries at MOUAU, step by step
- Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Fisheries at MOUAU with Use of English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, and make MOUAU your first choice. If you already chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU opens screening.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your result is out. Upload the sitting that has your Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics credits plus the Physics result.
- Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, fill in your details on portal.mouau.edu.ng and generate a Remita invoice.
- Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at a bank through Remita, then keep the RRR and receipt.
- Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status there. The 2026/2027 notice gave no test date.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Take the figure from your portal invoice and pay only through it.
Warning
Every genuine MOUAU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Do not pay anyone who promises a Fisheries place for a fee; pay MOUAU only through its portal invoice.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. If you applied this year, check CAPS rather than waiting for a printed list.
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management at MOUAU: the programme
The department is one of three in CNREM, with Environmental Management and Toxicology and Forestry and Environmental Management. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, established by federal decree in November 1992.
What you study
MOUAU has not published a course outline that I could reach. Fisheries degrees in Nigeria usually cover:
- Early years: general agriculture, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and statistics.
- Fish biology: fish anatomy and physiology, ichthyology and fish genetics.
- Aquaculture: pond construction, hatchery and fingerling production, fish feed and nutrition, and fish diseases.
- Capture fisheries and water: limnology, oceanography basics, fishing gear and fisheries management.
- Post-harvest and business: fish processing and preservation, marketing and fisheries economics.
- Practical work: a farm practical or industrial attachment year and a final-year project.
Degree, duration and accreditation
The exact degree title (B.Sc, B.Fish or B.Agric) was not stated in any official source I reached. Agriculture and fisheries degrees in Nigeria commonly run for five years, but MOUAU has not confirmed this for the course in what I found. NUC accreditation status was not found, so I am not claiming one.
Careers
- Running a commercial fish farm or hatchery.
- Fish feed production and sales.
- Fisheries officers in federal and state ministries and agricultural development programmes.
- Research with institutes such as the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research.
- Fish processing, cold-chain and export businesses.
- Postgraduate study in aquaculture or fisheries science.

If your score falls short for this course, our JAMB change of course guide shows how to switch before admission closes.
Mistakes that cost Fisheries applicants a MOUAU place
- Writing Mathematics instead of Physics in the UTME: the remark on the entry names Physics.
- No Physics result at all in O’level: MOUAU wants at least a pass.
- Agricultural Science credit with a failed Biology: MOUAU will not count it.
- Three sittings: MOUAU allows at most two, and weights fewer sittings.
- MOUAU as second choice: the notice required first choice.
- Missing the CAPS acceptance window: four weeks under JAMB’s 2026 rule.
MOUAU Fisheries cut off mark: frequently asked questions
What is the JAMB subject combination for Fisheries in MOUAU? Write Use of English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. The general line allows any science as the fourth subject, but a remark on the entry says Chemistry, Physics and Biology for MOUAU.
Is 170 good for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management in MOUAU? 170 clears the 150 minimum and is at the start of my “reasonable chance” band. With clean credits from one sitting it is workable; with two sittings and weak grades it is uncertain.
Do I need Physics in WAEC for Fisheries at MOUAU? MOUAU’s O’level remark asks for at least a pass in Physics. Because you should also write Physics in the UTME, a credit is better.
Can I use Agricultural Science instead of Biology for MOUAU Fisheries? Yes for O’level, provided you also have at least a pass in Biology. For the UTME, Biology is safer because the remark names Biology.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal address, the awaiting-result rule and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline, the four-week CAPS acceptance window and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). College and department names come from MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page (last modified 19 June 2026). The UTME line and remark, MOUAU’s O’level and Direct Entry remarks and the general Direct Entry rules come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management, whose list of universities did not load; the UTME remark is labelled “MOUA” on that page. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. MOUAU’s fees, the exact degree title and duration, and the accreditation status were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if MOUAU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
