The CCU Education and Chemistry cut-off mark would be 150, JAMB’s national minimum for universities for 2026/2027, because Coal City University, Enugu, has not published a higher figure for any course. Education and Chemistry is on CCU’s JAMB course list, but it is missing from CCU’s own list of B.Ed. programmes, and the NUC has no accreditation result for it at CCU. Confirm with CCU in writing that the course is admitting before you choose it in JAMB.
2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Here is what each list shows. CCU’s JAMB course list includes Education and Chemistry, which is the exact name a candidate would register. CCU’s Faculty of Education page, which lists fifteen B.Ed. programmes across its two departments, has no Chemistry Education programme. The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list (September 2026) has nine Education rows for CCU and none of them is Chemistry. If you want a teaching degree at CCU with a Full NUC result, Education and Biology and Education and Computer Science are the closest options.
Does CCU offer Education and Chemistry?
| Where I checked | Is Education and Chemistry there? | Date |
|---|---|---|
| CCU’s JAMB course list (Myschool copy, 50 courses) | Yes, as “Education and Chemistry” | Checked 30 October 2026 |
| CCU Faculty of Education page (current B.Ed. list) | No | Page last modified 1 February 2024 |
| NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, CCU section | No row | Published September 2026 |
| CCU 2026/2027 admission advert (Myschool reprint) | Not visible; the readable part lists only science programmes | 18 May 2026 |
A course can stay on JAMB’s list after a university stops admitting into it, or before it starts. The faculty page is the university’s own description of what it teaches, and it is the strongest evidence here, so I would treat the course as unconfirmed until CCU says otherwise. Ask three questions: is the course admitting for 2027/2028, has NUC approved it, and is there a lecturer for the Chemistry side of the degree?

Safe target score for Education and Chemistry at CCU (my advice)
If CCU confirms the course is running, these bands are my judgement, not a CCU rule. The same bands apply to the alternatives below.
| Your UTME score | My read for Education and Chemistry at CCU |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any university course in Nigeria this session |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level subjects match the course |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable for an education course at a private university of CCU’s size |
| 200 and above | Strong. Your O’level and documents become the only real questions |
I would aim for 180 or more in the 2027 UTME. With a course whose status is uncertain, a stronger score matters more, because it keeps a public university and other CCU courses open if this one is not admitting.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Education and Chemistry
| Requirement | Education and Chemistry |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Not printed on Myschool’s copy of the brochure. JAMB’s usual combination is Use of English, Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics; confirm on the JAMB e-brochure |
| O’level | Five credits: Mathematics, Chemistry, English Language and two of Physics, Biology and Agricultural Science |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level or NCE passes including Chemistry and one other science subject |
| CCU-specific remark in the brochure | None |
The UTME section of Myschool’s copy of the brochure for Education and Chemistry is blank, so check the subjects on JAMB’s own e-brochure during registration. Chemistry is certain to be required. Writing Chemistry, Physics and Biology, or Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, keeps both this course and the alternatives below open, and Mathematics is useful because the O’level line demands a credit in it.
The O’level line is fixed: Mathematics, Chemistry and English, plus two of Physics, Biology and Agricultural Science. A candidate with Physics and Biology as the extra two also meets the O’level line for Education and Biology.
If you hold, or are thinking about, an NCE: JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE programmes from the UTME, and colleges of education stopped taking degree students at 100 and 200 level from 2026/2027, so everyone there now starts with the NCE. An NCE with good grades in your teaching subjects is also a Direct Entry route into a B.Ed. at a university such as CCU. Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB and are admitted through CAPS.
Alternatives to Education and Chemistry at CCU
All of these are on CCU’s JAMB course list. The second column shows where else CCU lists them, and the third gives the NUC result.
| Course (JAMB name) | On CCU’s B.Ed. or faculty list | NUC result at CCU | Fit for you if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Education and Biology | Yes (Science & Computer Education) | Full, maturity 2028 | You have Biology and Chemistry credits |
| Education and Computer Science | Yes (Science & Computer Education) | Full, maturity 2028 | You wrote Mathematics and Physics |
| Chemistry (B.Sc.) | In the 2026/2027 advert’s science list | No row | You want the subject, not a teaching degree; check NUC status |
| Biochemistry (B.Sc.) | Yes (Faculty of Natural & Applied Sciences) | Full, maturity 2029 | You want a chemistry-heavy B.Sc. with a Full result |
Outside CCU, check the JAMB brochure for universities that list Education and Chemistry in their institution remarks, and confirm each one’s NUC result the same way before you register.
How CCU screens applicants
CCU has not published its 2026/2027 screening details in any source I could reach. The Myschool reprint of the 2026/2027 advert (18 May 2026) invites applications into the university’s undergraduate programmes, but the part that can be read gives no dates, no fee and no word on a written test. The table separates what was published for an earlier session from what is still unknown.
| Detail | What is known | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Application route | Online at portal.ccu.edu.ng (invoice, payment, form, print) | Described for 2022/2023 by SchoolNGR; portal still live |
| Application fee | ₦2,000 | Reported for 2022/2023 (SchoolNGR) and 2026/2027 (abstechconnect blog); unofficial |
| Who can apply | UTME, Direct Entry and transfer candidates | abstechconnect blog, May 2026 |
| Choice of institution | CCU as first choice; change of institution if not | 2022/2023 guidance |
| O’level sittings | No more than two sittings | 2022/2023 guidance |
| Written Post-UTME test | Not stated for 2026/2027 | Unknown |
| Screening dates | Not published | Unknown |
| Aggregate formula | Not published | Unknown |
Many private universities in Nigeria admit on UTME score plus O’level, sometimes with a short interview, instead of a scored Post-UTME test. I can’t confirm which method CCU used in 2026, so prepare for both: keep your UTME result slip, O’level certificates or statements of result, birth certificate, local government identification and passport photographs in one folder.
Worked example
With no published aggregate, compare your score with 150 and my target and check your O’level, then plan a backup.
Kosisochukwu scored 189 in English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics in one sitting.
- Eligibility: 189 minus 150 = 39. She clears the minimum by 39 marks.
- Against my safe target: 189 minus 180 = 9. Above it.
- O’level check: Mathematics, Chemistry, English, Physics and Biology. That fits Education and Chemistry and also Education and Biology.
- Advice: ask CCU in writing whether Education and Chemistry is admitting. If it is not, Education and Biology fits her results with no change of subjects, and a change of course on JAMB is straightforward.
Any 50:50 aggregate you see printed for CCU is a website’s guess; the university has not published one.
How to apply to CCU if Education and Chemistry is confirmed
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose the course named Education and Chemistry under Coal City University and write the subjects in the table above.
- Put CCU on your form: make Coal City University your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution at a CBT centre or JAMB office.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CCU cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Apply on the CCU portal: go to portal.ccu.edu.ng, choose the option for degree programmes, generate an invoice and pay. A 2026 blog put the form at ₦2,000, the same figure reported for 2022/2023. CCU’s own 2026/2027 notice was not available to me, so go by the amount on your invoice.
- Submit and print: enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, submit it and print the application form and your UTME result slip.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the CCU offer and print your JAMB admission letter. JAMB allows four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
- Pay acceptance and clear: CCU’s acceptance and tuition fees were not published in any source I could open. Get the figures from the portal or the admissions office before you pay anything.
Before you pay
Get written confirmation from CCU’s admissions office that Education and Chemistry is admitting and NUC approved before you pay any acceptance or school fee. Every genuine CCU admission shows on JAMB CAPS.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, a month after the 31 October 2026 date for public universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). JAMB also said any admission made outside CAPS is illegal. If you sat the 2026 UTME and chose CCU, keep checking CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means.
What Education and Chemistry usually involves
CCU has published nothing on this course, so this is the general pattern for a Nigerian B.Ed. in the subject. A UTME entrant normally spends four years.
- Chemistry content: general, organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry with laboratory practicals.
- Supporting sciences: mathematics and physics at 100 level.
- Education content: educational psychology, curriculum, teaching methods, and measurement and evaluation.
- Methods of teaching Chemistry: running practicals safely and teaching the senior secondary syllabus.
- Teaching practice and project: a school placement and a final-year research project.
Graduates teach Chemistry in senior secondary schools and Basic Science at junior level, and some move into laboratory, quality control or examination body work. Teachers in Nigeria register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), which includes passing its Professional Qualifying Examination, and that registration assumes a degree from an accredited programme. That is one more reason to confirm the NUC position first.
Mistakes that cost Chemistry Education applicants a CCU place
- Choosing the course in JAMB without asking CCU first: it is not on the faculty’s own list.
- Missing a Mathematics credit at O’level: the brochure requires it with Chemistry and English.
- Dropping Chemistry from the UTME: it is the teaching subject.
- Paying acceptance without written confirmation: ask for the NUC position first.
- Missing the CAPS window: accept or reject within four weeks.
If you are aiming at the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on checking your JAMB result and what to do with the score. Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus and JAMB Biology syllabus cover the papers most candidates for this course write.
