The CCU Education and Biology cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the JAMB national minimum for universities in 2026/2027. Coal City University, Enugu, has not published a separate cut-off for Education and Biology or any other department, and it did not declare its own minimum at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. With 150 or more, the right science subjects and CCU on your form, you can be considered.
2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
On JAMB’s course list for CCU the programme is called Education and Biology, so search for that exact name when you register; there is no CCU entry called “Biology Education”. CCU’s Faculty of Education page lists it as a B.Ed. in the Department of Science and Computer Education, and the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list shows “Education Biology” at CCU with Full accreditation and a maturity date of 2028. That makes it the CCU biology degree with the clearest standing: the plain B.Sc. Biology has no NUC row for CCU at all.

CCU Education and Biology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Official (JAMB, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | CCU figure for Education and Biology | None declared or published |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
| 2025/2026 | Not published | CCU figure for Education and Biology | None found |
AbsTechConnect, a blog, gave CCU’s cut-off as 150 in May 2026. It cited no CCU document, so I read it as the national minimum restated.
Safe target score for Education and Biology at CCU (my advice)
This is my own reading, not a CCU rule. Science education courses at private universities are rarely crowded, and many applicants come in with scores in the 150s and 160s. What sinks candidates here is usually a missing Chemistry or Mathematics credit, not the score.
| Your UTME score | My read for CCU Education and Biology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for UTME entry; consider JUPEB or an NCE |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; realistic with complete science credits |
| 160 to 179 | Comfortable for CCU |
| 180 and above | Strong; UNN is also open to you |
My target for a 2027 candidate would be 160 or more.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Education and Biology at CCU
The JAMB brochure entry for Education and Biology has many university remarks (ABU, UNIBEN, UNILAG, EBSU, IMSU, ABSU and others) but none for CCU. One oddity: on Myschool’s reprint of the entry, the UTME line is blank. The combination below is JAMB’s usual one for biology education degrees. Confirm it on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register.
| Requirement | Education and Biology at CCU |
|---|---|
| JAMB course name to register | Education and Biology (Coal City University) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology and two of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics (JAMB’s usual combination; confirm on the e-brochure) |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one other subject |
| Sittings | Not stated by CCU |
| Direct Entry | NCE or A-level passes in Biology and one other science subject |
Which two sciences should you write?
I would write Biology, Chemistry and Physics with English. That combination fits Education and Biology, and it also keeps CCU’s Microbiology, Biochemistry and health courses open if you change your mind. If Physics is your weak subject, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics is the safer pick for this course and still fits Microbiology and Biochemistry.
Direct Entry from NCE
Many Education and Biology students come in with an NCE in Biology and Chemistry or Biology and Integrated Science. JAMB’s general rule accepts NCE or A-level passes in Biology and one other science. CCU’s 2026/2027 form was open to Direct Entry candidates, according to AbsTechConnect, but CCU has not said at which level NCE holders start. Ask before you pay.
How CCU screening works for Education and Biology
| Detail | What is known for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Advert | CCU invited applications for its undergraduate programmes (Myschool reprint, 18 May 2026) |
| Who could apply | UTME, Direct Entry and transfer candidates (AbsTechConnect, May 2026) |
| Portal | portal.ccu.edu.ng |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 according to AbsTechConnect; not confirmed by CCU |
| Test, date and format | Not published |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Other entry routes | JUPEB, IJMB and pre-degree forms advertised for 2026/2027 |
Worked example
CCU has not published a screening test or aggregate, so the useful checks are your margin over the minimum, your margin against my target, and your O’level.
Take Somtochukwu, who scored 167 in English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Agricultural Science from one NECO sitting.
- Eligibility: 167 minus 150 = 17. She clears the minimum.
- Against my target: 167 minus 160 = 7. She is in the comfortable range.
- O’level check: English, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics are all credits, and Agricultural Science counts as the fifth subject. She qualifies.
- Advice: apply on the CCU portal, upload her result to CAPS, and accept quickly once the offer shows.
Compare Chukwuemeka, who scored 178 but has a D7 in Chemistry. His score is better, but Chemistry is named in the O’level rule. He should rewrite Chemistry in the next GCE, or ask CCU in writing whether it will consider him before admissions close.
Admission odds and advice
- Good odds above 150: with complete science credits and an early application, this is one of the more accessible CCU science-based courses.
- Choose it for the right reason: if you want to teach biology, this degree gives you both the science and the teaching qualification in four years.
- Make CCU your first choice so CCU can propose you on CAPS.
- Remember the date: JAMB fixed 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities.
Other Biology Education options
| Institution | Entry point (2026/2027) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| UNN | 160 to screen | UNN’s general screening minimum (notice of 13 July 2026) |
| Gregory University, Uturu | 150 floor | See our Gregory Biology Education guide |
| FCE Eha-Amufu (NCE Biology) | No UTME for NCE | See our FCE Eha-Amufu Biology NCE guide |
| CCU | 150 | NUC Full until 2028 |
The NCE route takes three years and lets you teach at junior secondary level. Many NCE holders later return for a B.Ed. by Direct Entry, which is the same degree CCU offers from 100 level.
How to apply for Education and Biology at CCU, step by step
- Profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to it.
- UTME registration: choose Coal City University and “Education and Biology”, with English, Biology and two of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
- O’level on CAPS: upload your result at a JAMB-accredited centre once it is out.
- CCU application: apply at portal.ccu.edu.ng, pay the fee the portal shows and keep your printout.
- Screening: watch the portal and ccu.edu.ng for any screening date, since none has been published.
- Accept on CAPS: at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows each step.
- Acceptance fee: CCU has not published its acceptance or school fees in any source I could open. Pay only what the portal invoice shows.
Warning
Some forum and classified posts advertise “CCU forms” with private phone numbers. CCU’s application runs on portal.ccu.edu.ng, and every genuine admission shows on JAMB CAPS. JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Do not pay anyone who promises a slot.
Studying Education and Biology at CCU
CCU’s Faculty of Education page, last updated on 1 February 2024, lists two programmes in its Department of Science and Computer Education: Education and Computer Science, and Education and Biology. Both are B.Ed. degrees. The page names Professor Rev. Fr. Augustine Akubue as Dean of the faculty; that may have changed since.
Accreditation
The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026) lists “Education Biology” under CCU’s education programmes with Full status and a maturity date of 2028. Full accreditation lasts five years, so the programme is next due for review around 2028. Education Computer Science, Education English and Education Economics carry the same 2028 date.
What you study
CCU has not put its curriculum online. A B.Ed. in Biology Education in Nigeria usually takes four years and combines:
- Biology content: cell biology, genetics, ecology, plant and animal biology, microbiology and physiology, with laboratory practicals.
- Supporting sciences: chemistry and some physics or mathematics in the early years.
- Education courses: psychology of learning, curriculum studies, biology teaching methods, measurement and evaluation, and educational technology.
- Practice: teaching practice in secondary schools and a final-year research project.
Careers
Most graduates teach Biology and Basic Science in secondary schools; Biology is a WAEC and NECO subject almost every science student takes, so trained teachers stay in demand. Others work in curriculum development, examination bodies, science centres and health education. You register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) to teach.

Mistakes that cost Education and Biology applicants a CCU place
- Searching for “Biology Education” on the JAMB portal: the CCU entry is “Education and Biology”.
- Missing Chemistry or Mathematics credit: both are named in the O’level rule.
- Arts subjects in the UTME: Government or Literature in place of a science will not fit this course.
- Ignoring a CAPS offer: an offer not accepted within four weeks can lapse.
- Paying agents: use the CCU portal only.

Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the 30 November 2026 private-university deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning on admissions outside CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The 2025 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), and the absence of a CCU-declared figure is based on News Central’s 2026 list. The course name comes from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s CCU course list; the O’level and Direct Entry rules come from the JAMB brochure entry for Education and Biology (Myschool reprint, checked 30 October 2026), whose UTME line is blank. The degree, department and dean come from CCU’s Faculty of Education page on ccu.edu.ng (last updated February 2024). The accreditation status is from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026). The 2026/2027 advert is from Myschool’s reprint (18 May 2026); the form fee and applicant groups are from AbsTechConnect and are unofficial. UNN’s 160 comes from its 13 July 2026 notice as covered in our UNN guides. Safe target scores and worked examples are my advice. Checked on 30 October 2026.
