The CCU Chemistry cut-off mark is 150. That is JAMB’s national minimum for universities for 2026/2027, and Coal City University, Enugu, has not announced a higher figure for Chemistry or any other course. A UTME score of 150 or more, the right four subjects and CCU on your JAMB form make you eligible to apply.
2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Chemistry is on CCU’s JAMB course list as Chemistry, and B.Sc. Chemistry is listed in the Faculty of Natural & Applied Sciences in CCU’s 2026/2027 admission advert. Two cautions: CCU’s own Faculty of Natural & Applied Sciences web page (last updated December 2025) names only Microbiology, Biochemistry, Mathematics and Computer Science, and Chemistry has no row in the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list (September 2026), whose CCU section has only Biochemistry, Computer Science and Microbiology under Sciences. Confirm with the admissions office that Chemistry is admitting and ask for its NUC status before you pay acceptance. If you want a related CCU course with a published Full NUC result, look at Biochemistry.

CCU Chemistry cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | None found | CCU’s own declared minimum | CCU is not on News Central’s list of 2026 university cut-offs |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | “CCU cut-off” on a blog | abstechconnect.com (25 May 2026); no CCU notice cited |
| 2025/2026 and earlier | Not found | CCU or departmental figure | No official figure in any source reached |
Nothing official sits above the national 150. If CCU announces its own minimum for 2027/2028 at JAMB’s next policy meeting, I will add it here.
Safe target score for Chemistry at CCU (my advice)
This is my own judgement, not a CCU rule. CCU is a private university founded in 2016, and pure Chemistry draws fewer applicants than Medicine, Nursing or Computer Science. Meeting the subject rules matters more here than a very high score.
| Your UTME score | My read for Chemistry at CCU |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any university course in Nigeria this session |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. A place is possible if your O’level is clean and in the right subjects |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable for a private university of CCU’s size |
| 200 and above | Strong. Your O’level and documents become the only real questions |
I would aim for 180 or more in the 2027 UTME. It costs little extra effort and protects you if CCU raises its minimum, or if you need a public university as a second option.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Chemistry at CCU
| Requirement | Chemistry at CCU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Chemistry, and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology |
| Sittings | No more than two (2022/2023 guidance) |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology; or ND/NCE with good grades |
| CCU-specific remark in the brochure | None |
JAMB does not make Mathematics compulsory in the UTME for Chemistry: you can write Chemistry, Physics and Biology. My advice is still to choose Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics if your Mathematics is solid, because the degree leans heavily on calculations and physical chemistry.
The O’level line is stricter. It names all five subjects, including both Physics and Biology, so a candidate missing a Biology credit can fail the O’level check even with a strong UTME score.
For Direct Entry the brochure accepts two A-level passes in Chemistry plus one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology, or an ND or NCE with good grades. CCU has not published its own DE notice for 2026/2027, so confirm on the portal.
How CCU screens Chemistry applicants
CCU has not published its 2026/2027 screening details in any source I could reach. The Myschool reprint of the 2026/2027 advert (18 May 2026) invites applications for its undergraduate programmes, but the visible part gives no dates, no fee and no word on whether there is a written test. So the table below separates what was published for an earlier session from what is unknown for the current one.
| Detail | What is known | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Application route | Online at portal.ccu.edu.ng (invoice, payment, form, print) | Described for 2022/2023 by SchoolNGR; portal still live |
| Application fee | ₦2,000 | Reported for 2022/2023 (SchoolNGR) and 2026/2027 (abstechconnect blog); unofficial |
| Choice of institution | CCU as first choice; change of institution if not | 2022/2023 guidance |
| O’level sittings | No more than two sittings | 2022/2023 guidance |
| Written Post-UTME test | Not stated for 2026/2027 | Unknown |
| Screening dates | Not published | Unknown |
| Aggregate formula | Not published | Unknown |
Many private universities in Nigeria admit on UTME score plus O’level, sometimes with a short interview, rather than a scored Post-UTME. I can’t confirm which method CCU used in 2026, so be ready for either: keep your UTME result slip, O’level certificates or statements, birth certificate and local government identification in one folder.
Worked example for a Chemistry candidate
With no published aggregate, the honest calculation is the distance between your UTME score, the 150 minimum and the safe target I suggest above, plus a check of your O’level against the course requirement.
Take Chiamaka, who scored 191 in English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, with credits in all five O’level subjects across two sittings.
- Eligibility: 191 minus 150 = 41. She clears the minimum by 41 marks.
- Against my safe target: 191 minus 180 = 11. She is above the score I suggest.
- O’level check: five credits in the required subjects, two sittings. CCU’s last published guidance allowed two sittings.
- Advice: apply on the portal, confirm her O’level shows on CAPS, and accept the offer promptly.
Obinna scored 205 but has a D7 in Biology. JAMB’s O’level line for Chemistry lists Biology, so he should either fix that grade or ask CCU whether it will accept him without it.
Some websites print a 50:50 aggregate formula for CCU. The university has not published one, so treat any such calculation as a guess.
How to apply for Chemistry at CCU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose the course named Chemistry under Coal City University and write English, Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics.
- Put CCU on your form: make Coal City University your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution at a CBT centre or JAMB office.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CCU cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Apply on the CCU portal: go to portal.ccu.edu.ng, choose the option for degree programmes, generate an invoice and pay the application fee. A 2026 blog put the fee at ₦2,000, the same figure reported for 2022/2023, but CCU’s own notice for 2026/2027 was not available to me, so go by the amount on your invoice.
- Submit and print: enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, submit it and print the application form. Keep a printed copy of your UTME result too.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer from CCU and print your JAMB admission letter. JAMB allows four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
- Pay acceptance and clear: CCU’s acceptance and tuition fees were not published in any source I could open. Get the figures from the portal or the admissions office before you pay anything.
Warning
Every genuine CCU admission shows on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB says any admission made outside CAPS is illegal. Do not pay anyone who promises a place in exchange for money. Pay only against an invoice generated on the CCU portal.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, a month after the 31 October 2026 date for public universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). If you sat the 2026 UTME and chose CCU, keep checking CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means.
Studying Chemistry at Coal City University
B.Sc. Chemistry is one of eight science degrees in CCU’s Faculty of Natural & Applied Sciences. CCU has not posted a Chemistry curriculum online, so here is what a Nigerian B.Sc. Chemistry usually covers over four years.
What you study
- 100 level: general chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology with practicals.
- 200 and 300 levels: organic, inorganic, physical and analytical chemistry, with spectroscopy, thermodynamics and laboratory techniques.
- Industrial training: a SIWES placement, usually in a laboratory, factory or oil and gas company.
- 400 level: advanced options such as environmental, polymer or petroleum chemistry and a research project.
Accreditation and professional registration
The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list (September 2026) has no Chemistry row under CCU. Its Sciences rows are Biochemistry (Full until 2029), Computer Science and Microbiology, and there is no Education and Chemistry row either. So no accreditation result for Chemistry has been published. Chemistry graduates who want to practise as chemists in Nigeria register with the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria (ICCON), and NUC accreditation of your degree matters for that, so get the status from CCU in writing.
Careers
Chemistry graduates work in quality control and production in food, drinks, paint, cosmetics and pharmaceutical companies, in oil and gas laboratories, in environmental monitoring and in teaching. A master’s opens research and industrial chemistry roles.

Mistakes that cost Chemistry applicants a CCU place
- Dropping Chemistry from the UTME: it is the one compulsory science.
- A gap in the five O’level sciences: the brochure lists Physics, Chemistry and Biology together with English and Mathematics.
- O’level not on CAPS: CCU cannot offer admission without it.
- Registering the wrong course name: pick “Chemistry” under CCU, not Industrial Chemistry or Education and Chemistry.
- Paying acceptance before checking the programme: ask about NUC status first.
- Missing the CAPS window: accept within four weeks.

CCU Chemistry cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
Is 150 enough for Chemistry in Coal City University? Yes. CCU has not published a Chemistry cut-off above JAMB’s 150, so 150 makes you eligible if your O’level meets the requirement.
Must I write Mathematics in JAMB to study Chemistry at CCU? No. JAMB requires Chemistry plus two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics, so Physics and Biology also work. You still need an O’level credit in Mathematics.
Does CCU accept two sittings for Chemistry? CCU’s last published guidance (2022/2023) allowed O’level results from no more than two sittings. Confirm for 2027/2028 on the portal.
Is Chemistry at Coal City University accredited? Not yet on record. The NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results list has no Chemistry row under CCU, so ask CCU in writing about its NUC status before paying acceptance.
