ABSCOHTECH Computer Science Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Requirements, Subjects and Screening

ABSCOHTECH’s Computer Science cut-off mark for 2027/2028 is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100; no departmental figure has been published. See the UTME subjects, the O’level Physics rule, screening and how to apply.

The ABSCOHTECH Computer Science cut-off mark for 2027/2028 planning is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s minimum for polytechnics in both 2025/2026 and 2026/2027. Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba runs Computer Science on its management technology side and has not published a separate cut-off for it.

2027/2028 update: ABSCOHTECH cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

ND Computer Science is one of the six ABSCOHTECH courses on JAMB’s list. Below are the official figures, my safe target score, the brochure subjects (including the O’level Physics rule that trips many applicants), the college’s past screening, a worked example, the steps on CAPS and what the diploma leads to.

ABSCOHTECH Computer Science cut-off history

2025/2026100JAMB national minimum UTME score for polytechnics (ND)Official; JAMB policy meeting reported by Nairametrics on 8 July 2025

JAMB’s institution data, as reproduced by Myschool and other listing sites, puts ABSCOHTECH in the state polytechnic group, so the polytechnic minimum of 100 is the one that applies on JAMB’s side. The college has never published a higher departmental figure that I could find, and I would not trust any blog that prints one without a college notice behind it.

Safe target score for Computer Science at ABSCOHTECH (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a college rule. With no published merit list, the safest plan is to clear 100 by a wide margin so that your UTME score is never the reason you are passed over.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Computer Science at ABSCOHTECH
Below 100Below the JAMB minimum for polytechnics; not eligible through the UTME this session
100 to 139Eligible. Your O’level grades and the college’s own screening will decide it
140 to 179Comfortable for a state college of this kind
180 and aboveStrong. The score is unlikely to be what holds you back

For Computer Science I would aim for 150 or more. In my experience Computer Science draws applicants who missed out at universities, so the people you compete with at a polytechnic often come in with solid scores.

UTME subject combination and O’level requirements for Computer Science

RequirementComputer Science (ND)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics or Chemistry
O’level creditsMathematics, a basic science and three others from Economics, Geography, Government or History, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, English Language and Typewriting
Compulsory creditsEnglish Language and Physics
Direct EntryNo Direct Entry route listed for this course at ABSCOHTECH
SittingsNot stated by the college

Read the O’level line carefully. The general brochure entry makes credits in English and Physics compulsory. Some polytechnics have a waiver that accepts a mere pass in Physics, and Abia State Polytechnic is one of them, but ABSCOHTECH is not on that waiver list. Plan on a Physics credit.

For the UTME, Physics is optional in the brochure, since Mathematics plus any two of Geography, Physics, Economics and Chemistry is allowed. Since you need Physics at O’level anyway, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Mathematics, Physics and Economics are the combinations I would pick. A third-party listing of ABSCOHTECH’s JAMB data and MyEduvantage’s course table show the same combination. Confirm it on your JAMB e-brochure before you register.

HND Computer Science

HND Computer Science was in the 2023/2024 notice. Entry normally needs an ND in Computer Science or a related field, at lower credit or better, plus a year of industrial training, which is the usual NBTE rule. The college has not published its own HND criteria.

How ABSCOHTECH admission and screening work

ABSCOHTECH has not published a 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 admission notice that I could reach, so nobody outside the college can tell you the current form price, sale dates or test date. What is on record from earlier cycles shows how the process has run:

DateWhat happenedSource
1 November 2022The college PRO, Ekwurundu Emmanuel, announced an entrance exam for all prospective candidates on Friday 4 November 2022 at 9am in the school auditoriumMyschool reprint of the college notice
27 July 2023Forms for 2023/2024 went on sale for ND, HND and certificate programmesMyschool summary; the college’s own notice was not seen
10 May 2024Matriculation for newly admitted students, both UTME and Direct Entry, at the College Matriculation GroundSchoolings.org (3 May 2024); Myschool lists it as the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 matriculation
2025/2026 and 2026/2027No admission notice foundSearches up to 29 October 2026

Two things follow from that record. The college sells its own form and has run its own written entrance exam, and its matriculation notice speaks of students admitted through UTME and Direct Entry. So for an ND course on JAMB’s list you should expect both: a UTME score of at least 100 with ABSCOHTECH chosen on JAMB, and the college’s own form and test.

A login page at portal.abscohmat.edu.ng, titled “ABSCOHMAT SM Core Portal”, appears in search results. Its domain matches one of the college’s short names, but I could not read anything on it beyond the title, so ask the college whether that is where you apply before you pay anything through it.

Worked example for a Computer Science candidate

ABSCOHTECH has not published how it ranks candidates. The figures below use a 50:50 split between the UTME and the entrance exam, a method some Nigerian polytechnics use. Treat it as an illustration only, not the college’s formula.

Take Tobenna, who scored 176 in the UTME and 55 out of 100 in the college test, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Economics.

  1. Eligibility: 176 minus 100 = 76. Tobenna clears the JAMB polytechnic minimum by 76 marks.
  2. UTME half: 176 divided by 400, times 50 = 22.
  3. Test half: 55 divided by 100, times 50 = 27.5.
  4. Illustrative total: 49.5 out of 100.
  5. O’level check: Mathematics, English and Physics at credit, as the brochure requires. He is fine.

Blessing scored 158, comfortably above 100, but has only a pass (D7) in Physics. At Abia State Polytechnic that pass would be accepted under a brochure waiver; ABSCOHTECH has no such waiver listed. She should resit Physics or ask the college in writing whether it accepts a pass before she pays for anything.

How to apply for Computer Science at ABSCOHTECH, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Computer Science with Use of English, Mathematics and two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics or Geography, and pick Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school, do a JAMB change of institution before the college’s screening.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited CBT centre, so the college can see your grades when it considers you.
  4. Buy the college form: only from the college itself. Ask at the admission office in Aba, or confirm that the portal at portal.abscohmat.edu.ng is the official channel, before paying.
  5. Sit the entrance exam: if one is set for your session, take your form printout, UTME result slip and a passport photograph unless the notice says otherwise.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay the acceptance fee and clear: the college has not published its acceptance or school fees in any source I reached, so get the amount and the account details from the college, then print your JAMB admission letter.

Warning

Classified ad sites carry posts that sell “Abia State College of Health Technology, Aba” forms through a phone number and a Gmail address, and some list courses that do not match the college’s JAMB list. Do not pay anyone through those adverts. Buy the form from the college, and remember that a genuine ND offer for a UTME candidate will also show on your JAMB CAPS page.

About Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology

The college is owned by Abia State and sits in Aba. You will see three short names for it: ABSCOHTECH, ABSCOHMAT and, less often, ABSCOHSMT. They are the same school.

  • It began in 1948 as a School of Hygiene and was later known as the School of Health, according to The Sun (October 2016).
  • A law signed on 26 August 2009 upgraded it to a polytechnic-level college, which is why its head is a Rector.
  • Governor Alex Otti approved Aloysius Ekeleme Okezie as substantive Rector on 13 June 2023 (Prime Business Africa and Voice of Nigeria).
  • In February 2021 the state laid the foundation stone of a permanent site at Umuobiakwa, saying the campus in Aba’s busy city centre no longer suited academic work. I found no report that the move has happened.

Studying Computer Science at ABSCOHTECH

ND Computer Science normally runs for two years with a period of industrial training, and the HND another two. The college has not published its course outline, so the list below shows what ND Computer Science generally covers in Nigeria.

  • Introduction to computing, computer hardware and operating systems
  • Programming (structured programming first, then object-oriented languages)
  • Mathematics and statistics for computing
  • Database design and file organisation
  • Networking, the internet and web development
  • Systems analysis and a final project

Accreditation: ND programmes are accredited by NBTE. I could not confirm the current NBTE status of Computer Science at ABSCOHTECH, so ask the department before paying fees. An unaccredited ND can cause trouble with NYSC and HND admission later.

Careers: IT support, data entry and records work (including in hospitals, which suits a health college), web and software work, and computer teaching. Graduates can later join the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria and move on to HND or a degree.

Mistakes that cost Computer Science applicants an ABSCOHTECH place

  • A pass in Physics: ABSCOHTECH has no waiver for it in the brochure.
  • Leaving out Mathematics in the UTME: it is compulsory.
  • Assuming 100 means admission: the college still screens you.
  • Late O’level upload to CAPS: upload as soon as results are out.
  • Paying an online agent: forms come from the college only.
  • Not checking accreditation: ask before you pay school fees.

If your score or subjects do not fit, read our guides to JAMB change of course and how to check your JAMB result.
