Lux Mundi University, Umuahia, has not published a cut-off mark for Banking and Finance. The figure that applies is JAMB’s 2026/2027 national minimum for universities, 150, and Lux Mundi was not among the institutions that declared their own cut-offs at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. A candidate with 150 is legally eligible, but I would aim for 170 or more to be safe.
2027/2028 update: Lux Mundi University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Programme check: Banking and Finance appears on the JAMB-style course list for Lux Mundi University published by universitycourses.ng (last modified 24 February 2026). Lux Mundi’s own website could not be read, and I found no official Lux Mundi programme list or minimum score list for 2026/2027, so the university has not confirmed this course or a score for it in any source I could reach. JAMB’s brochure has a Banking and Finance entry under that exact name, so the name should match what you see on JAMB’s portal under Lux Mundi. Before you pay for anything, ask the admissions office to confirm in writing that it is admitting into Banking and Finance for your session.
This guide sets out the score position and my safe target, the subject combination and O’level credits, Direct Entry, what Lux Mundi has said about screening, accreditation, what the degree covers, and the steps from JAMB registration to accepting an offer.

Safe target score for Banking and Finance at Lux Mundi (my advice)
Lux Mundi has no published admission data, so this is my own judgement. Banking and Finance is usually less crowded than Accounting, and at a new private university the main risk is late application, not a high score. For comparison, Nigerian British University in Abia asks for 160 for all its Management and Social Sciences courses.
| Your UTME score | My read for Lux Mundi Banking and Finance |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any 2026/2027 university place |
| 150 to 169 | Legally eligible. Apply early and confirm places with the university |
| 170 to 189 | My safe range for Lux Mundi |
| 190 and above | Strong. You can also compete for Banking and Finance at public universities |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more, and higher if you also want a public university as a backup.
Lux Mundi Banking and Finance subject combination and O’level requirements
I checked Banking and Finance on Myschool reprint of the JAMB brochure. Lux Mundi has no remark there, so JAMB’s general line applies. Other universities have their own variations (UNN, ESUT and OOU accept any Social Science subject as the third, for example), which shows how much the remark matters. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure under Lux Mundi.
| Requirement | Banking and Finance (JAMB general line) |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics, and Government or Geography |
| O’level credits | Five, including English Language and Mathematics, plus other relevant subjects |
| Economics at O’level | Not in the general line, but required by most universities’ remarks, so get the credit |
| NBC holders | Two relevant subjects such as Accounting, Commerce or Economics |
| Sittings | JAMB allows up to two; Lux Mundi has not published its own rule |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes from Accounting, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Geography or Statistics |
| Lux Mundi remark | None in the brochure |
Points Banking and Finance applicants get wrong
- Using Commerce or Literature as the third UTME subject: JAMB’s general line names Government or Geography. With no Lux Mundi remark, stick with one of those two.
- No Economics credit: the general O’level line does not name it, but almost every university’s remark does. Without it you limit your options.
- Weak Mathematics: a pass in Mathematics rules you out of finance courses everywhere.
- Mixing up course names: “Finance”, “Banking and Finance” and “Finance and Banking” are separate entries at some universities. Register the name JAMB shows under Lux Mundi.
Direct Entry
JAMB’s general Direct Entry line is two A level passes from Accounting, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Geography or Statistics. Many universities also take an ND in Banking and Finance or a related field, and some take professional passes such as CIBN, but only through their own remarks. Lux Mundi has none, so ask which Direct Entry qualifications it accepts and the level you would join.
Lux Mundi screening for Banking and Finance: what has been published
Nothing official. I found no Post-UTME notice, application fee, test date or aggregate formula from Lux Mundi for 2026/2027, and the university’s website could not be read. Online adverts claiming forms are on sale are linked to private phone numbers.
Worked example
Emeka scored 174 with English, Mathematics, Economics and Geography. In one WAEC sitting he has credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Geography and Civic Education.
- Legal floor: 174 is above JAMB’s 150.
- My safe target: 174 is above 170.
- UTME subjects: Mathematics, Economics and Geography match the general line exactly.
- O’level: English and Mathematics credits, plus Economics and two others, in one sitting. He qualifies.
Illustration only: with the 50:50 aggregate many universities use, 174 divided by 8 gives 21.75 of 50 UTME points, and screening or O’level points add the rest. Lux Mundi has not published any formula.
Amara scored 158 with English, Mathematics, Economics and Literature in English. Her score is legal, but Literature is not Government or Geography. She should ask Lux Mundi whether it accepts her combination, and if not, look at Business Administration or use a JAMB change of course to a course her subjects fit.
Is Banking and Finance at Lux Mundi accredited?
Not confirmed. Lux Mundi took off in 2024 on a provisional NUC licence, and I found no NUC accreditation result for any Lux Mundi programme. A new programme is usually accredited when its first students are close to final year, so this is expected, but ask the department for written proof that NUC approved Banking and Finance to start. The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) runs the professional banking exams; I found nothing on whether Lux Mundi graduates get exemptions.
Watch out for form sellers
Forum adverts with private phone numbers claim to sell Lux Mundi “Post-UTME forms” and to release “admission lists”. Lux Mundi has published neither in any source I could find. A real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS, and admission outside CAPS is illegal, so do not pay anyone who cannot show you an official Lux Mundi receipt.
How to apply for Banking and Finance at Lux Mundi
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register Banking and Finance under Lux Mundi University: use Mathematics, Economics and Government or Geography with Use of English. If Lux Mundi was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution; JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. Lux Mundi cannot recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Contact the university directly: Lux Mundi has not published an online portal or screening notice that I could find. Go through the university itself at its campus in Umuahia, and get any form, fee or screening date from the admissions office, not from an agent.
- Check CAPS for your offer: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Accept on CAPS in time: JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept offers in 2026. Accept or reject on CAPS before you pay acceptance.
- Pay acceptance and fees through the university: Lux Mundi has not published an acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Ask the bursary for the bill and pay only into an account the university gives you in writing.
What you study in Banking and Finance
Lux Mundi has not published its course outline. A Nigerian B.Sc. Banking and Finance runs four years for UTME entrants and usually covers:
- Foundations: principles of economics, accounting, business mathematics and statistics, and general studies.
- Banking: theory and practice of banking, bank lending and credit management, bank management and the law of banking.
- Finance: corporate finance, financial markets and institutions, investment analysis, public finance and international finance.
- Risk and regulation: risk management, insurance, monetary policy and the role of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
- Final year: a research project and, at many universities, a period of industrial attachment.
Careers
Graduates work in commercial and microfinance banks, fintech companies, insurance firms, pension and asset management companies, stockbroking, and treasury roles in companies and government. Professional certificates such as CIBN improve your chances in banking.
About Lux Mundi University
Lux Mundi University is a private university in Umuahia, Abia State. Its founder and Pro-Chancellor is Prof. Gabriel Okenwa, and its take-off campus is at New Ndagbo City, Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku. ThisDay reported in January 2024 that it was operating on a provisional licence from NUC and had started with faculties of Management Sciences, Law, and Arts and Social Sciences, with “about 11 programmes” mentioned in another report that month. In October 2024 The Guardian reported that Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, is its mentor institution under an NUC-approved arrangement. That makes it one of Abia’s newest universities, and it has not yet graduated a first set of students.

Sources and updates
UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules, and the UNN, ESUT and OOU remarks, are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Banking and Finance, which has no Lux Mundi remark. NBU’s 160 figure is from its 2026/2027 undergraduate admission page. The 150 national minimum, the list of institution cut-offs from the 2026 policy meeting, the four-week acceptance window and the 30 November 2026 private university deadline are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026) and News Central’s full list of the same day. The course names are from universitycourses.ng’s Lux Mundi list (last modified 24 February 2026); Lux Mundi’s own website returned no readable content. The university’s background is from ThisDay (18 January 2024), a January 2024 report on alexotti.com, and The Guardian (5 October 2024). Course content and careers are general knowledge of Nigerian Banking and Finance degrees, and the safe target and examples are my own advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when Lux Mundi publishes a cut-off or admission notice.
