NBU Information and Communication Engineering Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

NBU’s minimum UTME score for Information and Communication Engineering is 160. See which JAMB subjects to register (the brochure reprint conflicts with NBU), O’level rules, fees, application steps and accreditation.

The NBU cut off mark for Information and Communication Engineering (ICE) is 160 in the UTME. Nigerian British University (NBU), Asa, Abia State, lists the course in its 160+ group on the official 2026/2027 undergraduate admission page, 10 marks above JAMB’s national minimum of 150. NBU has published no departmental merit score for ICE.

2027/2028 update: NBU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

ICE is on NBU’s current programme list in the Faculty of Engineering. The NBU course list on universitycourses.ng (updated 28 February 2026), which appears to follow JAMB’s names, spells it “Information and Communications Engineering”, with an s. JAMB’s own NBU list would not open for me, so pick the NBU entry whose name is closest to Information and Communication Engineering when you register, and check it on your e-Facility profile.

There is also a subject problem you should know about before registering. Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Information and Communication Engineering shows a business-style combination (Mathematics, Economics and one of Accounts, Commerce or Government). That clashes with NBU’s own page, which wants Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry for all its engineering degrees. I explain what I would do below.

NBU is a young university, so there is very little history to read. The one figure you can rely on is the 160 on its own 2026/2027 admission page. The 150 is JAMB’s national floor, and NBU set its own bar 10 marks above it. NBU was also absent from the list of institution-declared cut-offs that News Central published after JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, so the 160 came from the university’s page, not from that meeting. Treat any other ICE figure you see on a blog as a guess.

Safe target score for Information and Communication Engineering at NBU (my advice)

This is my advice, not an NBU rule. NBU has not said how many people apply for ICE or how many it admits. At a private university with Engineering fees near ₦3 million, I would not expect a crowded field. Clearing 160 with the right subjects and a complete portal application is what gets you considered.

Your UTME scoreMy read for NBU engineering
Below 160Not eligible at NBU this session
160 to 169Eligible; a place is realistic if your O’level and documents are complete
170 to 189Comfortable for NBU
190 and aboveStrong; you may also be competitive at older private universities

For the 2027 UTME, aim for 180 or more. A higher score also keeps Electrical/Electronic or Computer Engineering at a public university open if you decide the fees are too heavy.

UTME subject combination and O’level for NBU Information and Communication Engineering

RequirementInformation and Communication Engineering at NBU
UTME subjects (my recommendation)Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
UTME line in Myschool’s JAMB brochure reprintMathematics, Economics and one of Accounts, Commerce or Government
O’level (NBU Engineering rule)Five credits: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, plus Biology, Geography or another science
O’level line in Myschool’s reprintFive credits including English, Economics and Mathematics
SittingsNot more than two (NBU)
Minimum age16 by 30 September 2026

Which UTME combination should you use?

The Myschool page for Information and Communication Engineering has no special remarks and names no university, and its UTME line reads like a management course, not an engineering degree. NBU’s page is explicit that it prefers Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry for all four engineering programmes, ICE included, and its engineering O’level rule names Physics and Chemistry. I would register Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

Before you pay for the UTME, open the JAMB e-brochure entry for this course under Nigerian British University on your e-Facility profile. If JAMB’s own entry for NBU shows the Economics combination, email admissions@nbu.edu.ng before registering and ask which combination they will accept, because your UTME subjects must match the course you register.

Direct Entry

Myschool’s reprint gives only a general Direct Entry line: A-level passes, ND or HND in relevant subjects into 200 and 300 levels. NBU accepts A-level in relevant subjects, OND, HND or a first degree, with transcripts sent to the Registrar at KM 10 Aba Port Harcourt Expressway. The 1 September 2026 date on NBU’s page for transcripts has passed, so confirm the current arrangement with admissions. An OND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or Telecommunications is the natural fit.

How NBU screens Information and Communication Engineering applicants

NBU’s 2026/2027 page describes an online application with document upload. It does not announce a post-UTME test, an interview or a screening fee, and it gives no aggregate formula. A blog (AbsTechConnect, 25 May 2026) said NBU’s post-UTME form was “now on sale” but gave no price, date or portal, and cited no NBU notice. Go by the university’s own page.

O’levelFive credits: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, plus Biology, Geography or another science; at most two sittings
AgeAt least 16 by 30 September 2026

Application feeNot stated on the page

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities (NAN, 11 May 2026), the same day NBU’s own window closes. If you are still trying to get into NBU this session, do the CAPS change and the portal application early rather than in the final week, because NBU will only consider you once your CAPS course and your portal course match.

Worked example for Information and Communication Engineering applicants

NBU has no published aggregate formula and no announced test, so work with margins.

Take Somto, who scored 181 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology over two sittings.

  1. Eligibility: 181 minus 160 = 21 above NBU’s minimum.
  2. Against my target: 181 minus 180 = 1 above it. Comfortable for NBU.
  3. Subjects: his UTME combination matches NBU’s stated engineering preference; he should still check the JAMB entry on his profile.
  4. O’level: five relevant credits in two sittings, which NBU allows.

Uchenna scored 170 but wrote Mathematics, Economics and Government because she followed a blog’s brochure printout. 170 clears 160. Her risk is the subject mismatch, not her score. She should email NBU before applying and be ready to apply for a course her subjects fit if NBU says no.

NBU Information and Communication Engineering school fees for 2026/2027

NBU’s tuition page lists fees by faculty, not by course, so Information and Communication Engineering pays the Engineering figures below. They are for new first-year students in the 2026/2027 session.

ItemEngineering (2026/2027, first year)
Acceptance fee₦40,000
Tuition₦750,000
Development levy₦100,000
Accommodation₦876,000
Other charges₦1,184,000
Total for a first-year Engineering student₦2,950,000

Accommodation is ₦876,000 of that total. The page has tabs for Classic and Deluxe rooms but shows only one accommodation figure, so ask the Bursary which room type it covers. Computing and IT pays ₦951,540 in tuition, more than Engineering’s ₦750,000, although the totals end up close (₦2,926,000 against ₦2,950,000).

  • Instalments: NBU wants full payment by the start of first semester; otherwise at least 50% of all fees at the start of the session and the balance before second semester.
  • Late registration: course registration must be done within the first three weeks of resumption, and a ₦200,000 late fee applies after that.
  • How to pay: through the university portals using Global Pay or Paystack.
  • Changes: the page says fees may change without notice. The Bursary lines on the page are 0803 733 4477 and 0706 694 4981.

How to apply for Information and Communication Engineering at NBU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: pick Information and Communications Engineering (the spelling on the JAMB-style list) under Nigerian British University and register Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If you are planning for 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts.
  3. Make NBU your choice on CAPS: NBU says candidates who did not choose it first must change to NBU on JAMB CAPS on or before 30 November 2026. Our JAMB change of institution guide shows how.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre so the university can see your grades when it considers you.
  5. Apply on NBU’s portal: go to application.nbu.edu.ng, choose Information and Communication Engineering (the same course that is on your CAPS) and upload every document requested. NBU says incomplete uploads will not be considered.
  6. Accept on CAPS: when NBU offers you admission, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and fees: NBU’s fee table lists a ₦40,000 acceptance fee. Pay only through the university portals (Global Pay or Paystack), then complete course registration within three weeks of resumption.

NBU’s page asks for “all required documents” without naming them. My advice is to have these scanned and ready before you open the form: your O’level result(s), your UTME result slip, proof of age (NBU wants applicants to be at least 16 by 30 September 2026) and a recent passport photograph.

Warning

NBU charges fees close to ₦3 million a year, which makes its applicants a target for people selling “admission slots”. A genuine NBU offer always shows on your JAMB CAPS, and JAMB has said that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Pay only through NBU’s own portals, and ask NBU in writing about your programme’s accreditation before you pay school fees.

Studying Information and Communication Engineering at NBU

ICE is in NBU’s Faculty of Engineering and leads to a B.Eng., normally five years in Nigeria; NBU’s page does not state the duration.

What you study

  • Early years: engineering mathematics, physics, circuits, engineering drawing and programming.
  • Core: signals and systems, analogue and digital communications, electromagnetic fields and antennas, data communication and computer networks.
  • Later years: mobile and wireless systems, satellite and optical communication, network security, an industrial training placement and a final-year project.

Think of ICE as the telecoms branch of electrical engineering with a strong networking side. If you prefer power and machines, Electrical and Electronics Engineering is the better fit.

Accreditation: NUC and COREN

NUC licensed NBU as a private university in April 2022, and NUC’s Monday Bulletin of 8 August 2022 lists “Nigerian British University, Asa, Abia State” among private universities established in 2022. A university licence is not the same as programme accreditation. I searched NUC’s published accreditation reports and found none naming NBU’s Information and Communication Engineering programme, and the NBU part of NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” file could not be read. A Vanguard headline from March 2025 says NUC accredited 24 courses for a “British University in Nigeria”, but the article would not open, so I cannot tell you which university or which courses it covers. NBU’s Information and Communication Engineering accreditation status is therefore not confirmed.

Engineering has a second gate. To register as an engineer in Nigeria after graduation, your degree programme also needs accreditation from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). I found no COREN accreditation for any NBU engineering programme. Programmes at a university this young usually run on NUC approval until the first accreditation visit, which tends to come as the first set nears final year. Before you pay, email admissions@nbu.edu.ng and ask two questions: what is the current NUC status of the programme, and when is the COREN visit expected?

Careers

ICE graduates work with mobile network operators, internet service providers, tower and fibre companies, broadcasting, network and cloud engineering teams, and the telecom units of banks and oil companies. Regulated engineering roles need COREN registration.

Mistakes that cost Information and Communication Engineering applicants an NBU place

  • Copying the business-style combination from a brochure printout: NBU wants Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry for engineering. Check JAMB’s NBU entry and ask NBU if they differ.
  • Choosing Information Technology by mistake: IT is a Computing degree at NBU, not ICE, and your CAPS course must match your portal course.
  • Assuming 150 is enough: NBU’s minimum is 160.
  • Missing the CAPS change: if NBU was not your first choice, change on CAPS by 30 November 2026.
  • Incomplete documents: NBU says it will not consider them.

If you need to fix your course or institution, read JAMB change of course and JAMB change of institution.

NBU Information and Communication Engineering cut off mark: frequently asked questions
