NBU Electrical and Electronics Engineering Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Nigerian British University, Asa asks for at least 160 in the UTME for Electrical and Electronics Engineering. See the JAMB subjects, O’level, Direct Entry, NBU portal steps, fees and accreditation status.

The NBU Electrical and Electronics Engineering cut off mark that 2027 candidates should plan with is 160 in the UTME. Nigerian British University, Asa (NBU) lists the course in its “160+” band on its 2026/2027 undergraduate admission page, alongside its other three engineering degrees and its computing and business courses. That is 10 marks above JAMB’s national minimum of 150 for universities, and 160 is also the lowest score NBU accepts for any course.

2027/2028 update: NBU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

NBU spells the course two ways on the same page: “Electrical and Electronic Engineering” in the score list and “Electrical & Electronics Engineering” under the Faculty of Engineering. They are the same B.Eng. programme. In JAMB’s brochure the course is called “Electrical / Electronics Engineering”.

I could not open a reprint of JAMB’s course list for NBU, so I cannot confirm from JAMB’s side that “Electrical / Electronics Engineering” sits under Nigerian British University on the JAMB portal. NBU’s page says the course on your CAPS record must match the course you apply for on its portal. When you register, check that the course appears under NBU before you pay for anything.

NBU did not appear on News Central’s list of institution cut-offs declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. Its 160 comes from its own admission page, and that page is the one to trust over aggregator sites.

Safe target score for Electrical and Electronics Engineering at NBU (my advice)

These bands are my judgement. NBU is a young private university and has published no applicant numbers for engineering.

Your UTME scoreMy read for NBU Electrical and Electronics Engineering
Below 160Not eligible for any NBU course this cycle
160 to 174Eligible; your O’level and screening decide
175 to 199Good chance
200 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 175 or more, with strong grades in Mathematics and Physics. Those two subjects carry the first two years of any engineering degree.

Register Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. NBU’s page says it prefers exactly these three alongside English, which matches JAMB’s main line, so there is no reason to try a waiver subject.

Your fifth O’level credit can be Biology, Agricultural Science, Further Mathematics, Geography or another science. Some universities ask for a specific fifth subject (the brochure shows UNILAG asking for Further Mathematics and FUTO asking for Biology), but NBU leaves it open. If you are also applying to one of those, follow their stricter rule.

Direct Entry into Electrical and Electronics Engineering at NBU

JAMB’s main Direct Entry line is two A-level passes in Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry, and many universities also accept ND or HND holders at upper or lower credit. NBU’s page lists A-level, OND, HND and first degrees as Direct Entry qualifications and asked for transcripts by 1 September 2026 for the 2026/2027 session. An ND in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology is the usual diploma route; ask NBU which level it would place you in.

How NBU admits Electrical and Electronics Engineering candidates

NBU’s 2026/2027 page describes a short process. You apply on the NBU application portal (application.nbu.edu.ng), upload every document it asks for, and make sure your details on JAMB CAPS match what you enter on the portal, including the course. The page says candidates who miss any of these will not be considered.

Applications for 2026/2027 close on Friday, 30 November 2026, and a candidate who did not pick NBU first must change to NBU on CAPS by the same date. JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, so the two line up. NBU also asks that candidates be at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026.

The page does not describe a post-UTME test, an interview, a screening date or a form price, and I found no official NBU notice with an aggregate formula. A 2026 blog said NBU post-UTME forms were on sale but gave no fee or date. So plan for some form of screening and ask the admissions office (admissions@nbu.edu.ng) what it involves before you travel.

Documents to have ready

NBU’s page asks you to upload all required documents but does not list them. Based on what Nigerian universities normally ask for, have these scanned and ready:

  • Your JAMB UTME result slip and admission letter printout from CAPS when it comes
  • Your O’level result or results (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), not more than two sittings, showing credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other science
  • Birth certificate or age declaration (NBU’s minimum age is 16 by 30 September of the admission year)
  • Local government identification and passport photographs
  • Your change of institution printout, if NBU was not your original choice

Worked example (illustrative only)

NBU publishes no aggregate formula. The 50:50 method in the last case (UTME divided by 8, plus half the screening percentage) is my illustration.

  1. Emeka: UTME 184 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with credits in all four plus Geography. He is eligible and above my target.
  2. Blessing: UTME 172 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Biology. Her UTME set lacks Chemistry, which JAMB’s line requires, so she needs a change of course or a new registration next year.
  3. Uche: UTME 162. If NBU sets a test and he scores 58%, his illustrative aggregate is 162 divided by 8 (20.25) plus 29, which is 49.25.

How to apply for Electrical and Electronics Engineering at NBU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME with NBU as your choice: pick Nigerian British University and “Electrical / Electronics Engineering”, with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If you already registered elsewhere, do a JAMB change of institution to NBU.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre once your result is out. Check that the upload shows English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and your fifth science.
  4. Apply on the NBU portal: start from the NBU undergraduate admission page, create your application on application.nbu.edu.ng, choose the same course you have on CAPS and upload every document.
  5. Confirm screening: write to admissions@nbu.edu.ng and ask whether there is a test or interview, when and where.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: NBU has not published an acceptance fee on the pages I could reach. Pay only through channels the university gives you in writing, after the offer shows on your CAPS page.

Warning

JAMB treats any admission that does not pass through CAPS as illegal. Ignore anyone who offers a guaranteed engineering place at NBU for a fee, and pay nothing until the offer shows on your CAPS page and the payment details come from the university itself.

Studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering at NBU

Electrical and Electronics Engineering deals with generating, moving and using electrical energy, and with the circuits and devices behind communications and computing. NBU offers it as a B.Eng. in the Faculty of Engineering, with Mechatronics, Computer Engineering and Information and Communication Engineering. B.Eng. degrees in Nigeria normally take five years, including industrial training (SIWES). NBU’s pages I reached do not give the duration or course outline.

What you will study

  • Engineering mathematics, physics and computer programming in the first two years
  • Circuit theory, electronics and digital systems
  • Electrical machines, power systems and power electronics
  • Control engineering, telecommunications and signal processing
  • Workshop practice, SIWES industrial attachment and a final-year project

Is NBU Electrical and Electronics Engineering accredited?

On the NUC side, NBU’s programmes are young, and the NUC usually sends its accreditation panel when a programme’s first students are close to final year. I could not read NBU’s entries in the NUC “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” publication (the online text stops well before universities starting with N), and a search of NUC’s accreditation report pages found no report naming NBU and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. A Vanguard headline from March 2025 reads “NUC accredits 24 courses for British University in Nigeria”, but I could not open the article to see which courses it covers or what kind of approval it describes. So I am treating the NUC status of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at NBU as not confirmed.

Engineering degrees also go through the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), which registers graduate engineers. I found no COREN report on NBU. Ask the faculty whether the NUC and COREN have visited and what the results were; it affects your COREN registration later.

Fees

Legit.ng reported on 14 September 2026, citing NBU’s tuition page, that Engineering tuition for 2026/2027 is N750,000, about N201,540 less than the reported Computing and IT fee of N951,540. The report gave no breakdown. Confirm on NBU’s tuition page.

Careers

Electrical and electronics engineers work with power companies and distribution firms, telecoms operators, oil and gas and manufacturing plants, building services, renewable energy installers and electronics or automation firms. Registration with COREN is the route to practising as a professional engineer.

Mistakes NBU engineering applicants make

  • Registering Biology in place of Chemistry in the UTME.
  • Having only four science-related credits: you need Physics, Chemistry and a fifth science on top of English and Mathematics.
  • Spreading credits over three sittings.
  • Choosing a different engineering course on the NBU portal from the one on CAPS.
  • Missing the change of institution before NBU’s 30 November closing date.
