NBU Computer Engineering Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

NBU’s minimum UTME score for Computer Engineering is 160. Get the JAMB subjects, the Further Maths question, O’level rules, first-year fees, how to apply by 30 November 2026 and the accreditation position.

The NBU cut off mark for Computer Engineering is 160 in the UTME. Nigerian British University (NBU), Asa, Abia State, puts Computer Engineering in its 160+ group on the official 2026/2027 undergraduate admission page, 10 marks above JAMB’s national minimum of 150 for universities. NBU has not published a separate merit score for the department, so 160 is the number to beat.

2027/2028 update: NBU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Computer Engineering is on NBU’s current programme list in the Faculty of Engineering. JAMB’s own NBU course list would not open for me, but the NBU list on universitycourses.ng (updated 28 February 2026), which appears to follow JAMB’s names, carries it as “Computer Engineering”. Register that name under Nigerian British University, and do not confuse it with Computer Science, which NBU runs separately in its Faculty of Computing and Information Technology.

One thing to sort out early: JAMB’s general O’level line for Computer Engineering, as reprinted by Myschool, names Further Mathematics, while NBU’s own engineering rule does not. I explain below what that means for you. You will also find a safe target score, the fees, the steps on CAPS and the portal, and what I could confirm about accreditation.

NBU is a young university, so there is very little history to read. The one figure you can rely on is the 160 on its own 2026/2027 admission page. The 150 is JAMB’s national floor, and NBU set its own bar 10 marks above it. NBU was also absent from the list of institution-declared cut-offs that News Central published after JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, so the 160 came from the university’s page, not from that meeting. Treat any other Computer Engineering figure you see on a blog as a guess.

Safe target score for Computer Engineering at NBU (my advice)

This is my advice, not an NBU rule. Computer Engineering is one of the most requested courses in Nigeria, but at NBU it sits in the same 160 tier as Mechatronics and Accounting. NBU publishes no applicant numbers. Given fees near ₦3 million, I expect far fewer applicants per place than at a federal university, so meeting 160 with clean documents is usually what matters most.

Your UTME scoreMy read for NBU engineering
Below 160Not eligible at NBU this session
160 to 169Eligible; a place is realistic if your O’level and documents are complete
170 to 189Comfortable for NBU
190 and aboveStrong; you may also be competitive at older private universities

If you are writing the 2027 UTME, aim for 180 or more. A Computer Engineering candidate on 180 to 200 can also list a state or federal university as a realistic option, which is worth doing when the private fees are a stretch for your family.

UTME subject combination and O’level for NBU Computer Engineering

RequirementComputer Engineering at NBU
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
O’level (JAMB general line, Myschool reprint)Five credits: English, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
O’level (NBU Engineering rule)Five credits: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, plus Biology, Geography or another science
SittingsNot more than two (NBU)
Minimum age16 by 30 September 2026

The UTME side is simple: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with Use of English, which is also what NBU says it prefers for engineering. No remark on the Myschool brochure page for Computer Engineering names NBU.

Do you need Further Mathematics?

Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s brochure lists Further Mathematics among the five O’level credits for Computer Engineering. NBU’s own page, which covers all four of its engineering degrees, asks for English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus Biology, Geography or another science, and does not insist on Further Maths. Universities can set their own O’level rules within JAMB’s framework, but I would not leave it to chance. If you have a Further Maths credit, use it as your fifth subject. If you do not, apply with Biology or another science credit as NBU’s page allows, and confirm with admissions@nbu.edu.ng that your result is acceptable before paying acceptance.

Direct Entry

JAMB’s general Direct Entry line for Computer Engineering is three A-level passes in Pure Mathematics (or Pure and Applied Mathematics), Chemistry and Physics. NBU accepts A-level in relevant subjects, OND, HND or a first degree, with transcripts sent to the Registrar at KM 10 Aba Port Harcourt Expressway. The 1 September 2026 transcript date on NBU’s page has passed, so ask admissions what applies now. An OND in Computer Engineering or Electrical/Electronic Engineering is the usual route.

How NBU screens Computer Engineering applicants

NBU’s 2026/2027 page describes an online application with document upload. It does not announce a post-UTME test, an interview or a screening fee, and it gives no aggregate formula. A blog (AbsTechConnect, 25 May 2026) said NBU’s post-UTME form was “now on sale” but gave no price, date or portal, and cited no NBU notice. Go by the university’s own page.

CAPS ruleChange to NBU on CAPS by 30 November 2026 if it was not your first choice; the CAPS course must match the portal course
O’levelFive credits: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, plus Biology, Geography or another science; at most two sittings
AgeAt least 16 by 30 September 2026
Test or interviewNone announced
Application feeNot stated on the page

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities (NAN, 11 May 2026), the same day NBU’s own window closes. If you are still trying to get into NBU this session, do the CAPS change and the portal application early rather than in the final week, because NBU will only consider you once your CAPS course and your portal course match.

Worked example for Computer Engineering applicants

NBU has published no aggregate formula and announced no test, so the arithmetic is about margins.

Take Adaeze, who scored 192 and has A1 Mathematics, B2 English, B3 Physics, B3 Chemistry and C4 Biology from one sitting, but no Further Maths.

  1. Eligibility: 192 minus 160 = 32. She clears the minimum easily.
  2. Against my target: 192 minus 180 = 12 above it. Strong for NBU.
  3. O’level check: she meets NBU’s stated rule (Biology as her fifth science), but not the Myschool general line that names Further Maths. She should email NBU admissions to confirm before paying.
  4. Paperwork: NBU on CAPS, Computer Engineering on both CAPS and the portal, all documents uploaded.

Tobenna scored 163 with two sittings. 163 minus 160 = 3. He is eligible, and two sittings are allowed, so his chances depend on a complete application rather than his score.

NBU Computer Engineering school fees for 2026/2027

NBU’s tuition page lists fees by faculty, not by course, so Computer Engineering pays the Engineering figures below. They are for new first-year students in the 2026/2027 session.

ItemEngineering (2026/2027, first year)
Acceptance fee₦40,000
Tuition₦750,000
Development levy₦100,000
Accommodation₦876,000
Other charges₦1,184,000
Total for a first-year Engineering student₦2,950,000

Accommodation is ₦876,000 of that total. The page has tabs for Classic and Deluxe rooms but shows only one accommodation figure, so ask the Bursary which room type it covers. Computing and IT pays ₦951,540 in tuition, more than Engineering’s ₦750,000, although the totals end up close (₦2,926,000 against ₦2,950,000).

  • Instalments: NBU wants full payment by the start of first semester; otherwise at least 50% of all fees at the start of the session and the balance before second semester.
  • Late registration: course registration must be done within the first three weeks of resumption, and a ₦200,000 late fee applies after that.
  • How to pay: through the university portals using Global Pay or Paystack.
  • Changes: the page says fees may change without notice. The Bursary lines on the page are 0803 733 4477 and 0706 694 4981.

How to apply for Computer Engineering at NBU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: pick Computer Engineering under Nigerian British University and register Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If you are planning for 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts.
  3. Make NBU your choice on CAPS: NBU says candidates who did not choose it first must change to NBU on JAMB CAPS on or before 30 November 2026. Our JAMB change of institution guide shows how.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre so the university can see your grades when it considers you.
  5. Apply on NBU’s portal: go to application.nbu.edu.ng, choose Computer Engineering (the same course that is on your CAPS) and upload every document requested. NBU says incomplete uploads will not be considered.
  6. Accept on CAPS: when NBU offers you admission, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and fees: NBU’s fee table lists a ₦40,000 acceptance fee. Pay only through the university portals (Global Pay or Paystack), then complete course registration within three weeks of resumption.

NBU’s page asks for “all required documents” without naming them. My advice is to have these scanned and ready before you open the form: your O’level result(s), your UTME result slip, proof of age (NBU wants applicants to be at least 16 by 30 September 2026) and a recent passport photograph.

Warning

NBU charges fees close to ₦3 million a year, which makes its applicants a target for people selling “admission slots”. A genuine NBU offer always shows on your JAMB CAPS, and JAMB has said that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Pay only through NBU’s own portals, and ask NBU in writing about your programme’s accreditation before you pay school fees.

Studying Computer Engineering at NBU

Computer Engineering is in NBU’s Faculty of Engineering and leads to a B.Eng., normally five years in Nigeria; NBU’s page does not state the duration. Students study at Asa, along the Port Harcourt/Aba Expressway.

What you study

  • Early years: engineering mathematics, physics, engineering drawing, workshop practice and programming.
  • Core: digital logic, electronic circuits, computer architecture, microprocessors, data structures, operating systems and computer networks.
  • Later years: embedded systems, VLSI and hardware design, software engineering, communications, an industrial training placement and a final-year project.

The difference from Computer Science is the hardware. Computer Engineering students build and program circuits and devices; Computer Science students spend most of their time on software and theory.

Accreditation: NUC and COREN

NUC licensed NBU as a private university in April 2022, and NUC’s Monday Bulletin of 8 August 2022 lists “Nigerian British University, Asa, Abia State” among private universities established in 2022. A university licence is not the same as programme accreditation. I searched NUC’s published accreditation reports and found none naming NBU’s Computer Engineering programme, and the NBU part of NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” file could not be read. A Vanguard headline from March 2025 says NUC accredited 24 courses for a “British University in Nigeria”, but the article would not open, so I cannot tell you which university or which courses it covers. NBU’s Computer Engineering accreditation status is therefore not confirmed.

Engineering has a second gate. To register as an engineer in Nigeria after graduation, your degree programme also needs accreditation from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). I found no COREN accreditation for any NBU engineering programme. Programmes at a university this young usually run on NUC approval until the first accreditation visit, which tends to come as the first set nears final year. Before you pay, email admissions@nbu.edu.ng and ask two questions: what is the current NUC status of the programme, and when is the COREN visit expected?

Careers

Graduates work as embedded-systems and firmware engineers, network engineers with telecom operators and ISPs, hardware support and design roles, software developers, and in automation for manufacturing and oil and gas. Roles that require a registered engineer depend on COREN, so settle the accreditation question early.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Computer Engineering applicants an NBU place

  • Registering Computer Science when you want Computer Engineering: they are different courses in different NBU faculties, and the CAPS course must match the portal course.
  • Ignoring the Further Maths question: confirm with NBU if your O’level has no Further Maths credit.
  • Swapping Chemistry for Biology or Economics in the UTME: the combination is Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Treating 150 as enough: NBU’s minimum is 160.
  • Incomplete uploads: NBU will not consider them.
  • Forgetting registration: a ₦200,000 late fee applies after the first three weeks of resumption.

If your plan has changed since you registered, see JAMB change of course and how to check your JAMB result.
