ESCET Physical and Health Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

ESCET needs no UTME score for its NCE Physical and Health Education (Double Major) if you have four O’level credits, but JAMB registration and CAPS still apply. See the Biology rule, the fitness test question, JAMB costs and the apply steps.

There is no UTME cut-off mark for Physical and Health Education (PHE) at ESCET for 2027/2028 candidates with at least four O’level credits. Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu runs it as a double major, and under the policy agreed on 11 May 2026, NCE applicants with four credits are exempt from the UTME. You still register with JAMB and are admitted through CAPS. ESCET has not published its own cut-off or any extra requirement for PHE.

2027/2028 update: ESCET admission requirements and entry rules usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the rules on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official position (the 2026/2027 national admission policy and JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide) and the college’s 2026/2027 advert as reprinted online. If the 2027/2028 rules change anything, we will update this page.

PHE is a double major at ESCET, so it has no partner subject: you study physical education and health education as two halves of one course. Below is what that means for your O’level choices, what JAMB charges for NCE registration, whether to expect a fitness test, two worked examples, the CAPS steps and where a PHE NCE can lead.

The 2026 policy meeting did not announce any numeric minimum for colleges of education, so a page quoting “100 for 2026” for an ESCET NCE course is mixing up the years. The 100 belongs to 2025/2026.

You may also notice a timing disagreement online. Nairametrics (11 May 2026) reported that the NCE exemption starts with the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide and Legit (23 July 2026) show it already working in 2026. For a 2027/2028 candidate both readings end in the same place: with four or more credits, you do not sit the UTME for an NCE course.

What “Double Major” means for PHE at ESCET

Most ESCET courses pair two teaching subjects, such as Biology/Chemistry. A double major is one subject taken across both halves of the NCE, so all your subject courses are in PHE. That has two practical effects:

  • Fewer O’level subjects to match: you do not need credits for a second teaching subject, so the science and health credits carry most of the weight.
  • More depth: you cover physical education (sport, games, coaching and human movement) and health education (school health, first aid, nutrition and disease prevention) in full.

On JAMB’s list the course appears as “Physical and Health Education (Double Major)”. Choose that exact name when you register, or CAPS will not match you to the right course.

O’level requirements for PHE at ESCET

ESCET has not published its own PHE subject list for 2026/2027. The table sets the national NCE rule beside the usual college of education pattern and JAMB’s degree-level rule for Physical and Health Education, which matters because ESCET’s programme continues into degree years.

RequirementWhat appliesSource
Number of creditsAt least fourNational policy, 11 May 2026
Compulsory subjectsEnglish Language and MathematicsUsual college of education pattern (confirm with ESCET)
Relevant subjectsBiology, plus Health Science, Physical Education or another scienceUsual pattern and brochure
SittingsNot more than twoUsual pattern
Degree-level O’level (for comparison)Five credits including English Language and Biology or its equivalentJAMB brochure entry for Physical and Health Education
UTMENot needed with four credits; JAMB registration still neededNational policy and JAMB guide

Biology is the subject that matters

The brochure’s UTME line for PHE is Biology plus any two relevant subjects, and its O’level line names English and Biology or its equivalent. Two universities close to Enugu show how this works in practice. UNN’s remark for Physical Education accepts English with Biology, Health Science, Physical Education or Agricultural Science, in not more than two sittings. UNIZIK asks for Mathematics, English, Biology and Health and Physical Education or Health Science. A Biology credit is the one I would not apply without.

If you also sit the UTME or plan Direct Entry

JAMB’s brochure entry for Physical and Health Education accepts NCE merit in Physical Education with a credit in Arithmetic or Mathematics for Direct Entry. ESUT’s remark on the same page accepts merit in four NCE subjects, one of them PE, and UNN’s accepts NCE merit in PHE. So an ESCET PHE NCE is a recognised route into a degree. The page lists no practical, fitness or medical requirement for any university, but its remarks are messy, so confirm with the school you target. An NCE recommendation on CAPS suspends any UTME process you have running.

JAMB NCE costs and rules for ESCET applicants

These amounts come from JAMB’s own June 2026 NCE registration guide. You pay them to JAMB, not to ESCET, and they stay the latest official figures until JAMB issues a 2027 guide.

JAMB NCE item (2026)What the guide says
O’level verification code₦1,500 for one sitting; ₦2,000 for two sittings
NCE application₦3,500
CBT centre (IPRC) charge₦700
Who puts you forwardThe college proposes candidates on CAPS and the Provost recommends them
O’level resultMust be on CAPS; awaiting-result candidates cannot be proposed until the result is uploaded
2026 UTME candidates with a college of education as first choiceMigrated to NCE for a ₦700 charge
Effect of an NCE recommendationAny UTME or Direct Entry process is suspended
Degree admission into colleges of educationNone at 100 or 200 level from 2026/2027; every entrant comes in through NCE
2026 NCE registration opened23 July 2026 (Nairametrics)

If you are also hoping for a university Human Kinetics place, decide before ESCET’s Provost recommends you. After that, JAMB holds your UTME or Direct Entry process.

ESCET screening for PHE: is there a fitness test?

Not that ESCET has published. The reprinted 2026/2027 advert gives no screening date, fee, written test, practical or medical test, and no official portal. Plan for JAMB’s process: the college reads your O’level on CAPS, proposes you for PHE, and the Provost recommends you. If the college does call PHE candidates for a practical, you will hear it from an official ESCET notice, not from an agent.

Worked examples (illustrative)

Chinedu (invented) plays football for his school and wants PHE. WAEC: English C6, Mathematics C6, Biology C5, Physical Education B3, Chemistry D7, Civic Education C4, Economics C6.

  1. Sittings: one, so the ₦1,500 verification code covers him.
  2. English and Mathematics: both credits. Pass.
  3. Biology: C5, which meets the brochure’s core subject.
  4. Physical Education: B3, a strong relevant credit.
  5. Costs on the JAMB side: ₦1,500 plus ₦3,500 and ₦700, so ₦5,700 before any ESCET charge.
  6. Verdict: a good file once the result is on CAPS.

Amaka (invented) has WAEC English C5, Mathematics C6, Health Science C5, Agricultural Science C6, Government C4 and Biology E8. She has five credits, so the NCE door is open, and Health Science helps. But without Biology she misses the brochure’s core subject for PHE at degree level. I would have her resit Biology in NECO and use two sittings (₦2,000 code) before applying.

Your chances and my advice

  • Sport alone is not an entry requirement: the file is judged on O’level credits, so get Biology and Mathematics in order.
  • Physical Education or Health Science at O’level helps: both appear in university rules for this subject.
  • Choose the exact name: Physical and Health Education (Double Major).
  • Register early: the college proposes from results already on CAPS, and the 2026/2027 window for colleges of education runs until 31 December 2026.
  • Match your names: O’level, birth certificate and JAMB record should be the same.

How to apply for Physical and Health Education at ESCET

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Buy your O’level verification code: ₦1,500 for one sitting or ₦2,000 for two (2026 figures).
  3. Register with JAMB for NCE: pay the ₦3,500 application and the ₦700 centre charge, then pick Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu and the exact course name, for example Physical and Health Education (Double Major). If another school is already on your record, do a JAMB change of institution.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: the college cannot propose you until the result shows on your profile.
  5. Complete ESCET’s own form if one opens: follow the college’s official notice and pay only through an official invoice.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave four weeks to accept offers in 2026/2027. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: ESCET has not published an acceptance fee, so confirm the amount with the college before paying.

Warning

JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal, and no college of education may admit anyone into 100 or 200 level of a degree. Ignore anyone selling an ESCET PHE “slot”, and confirm with the college that your course is admitting before you pay anything.

Studying Physical and Health Education at ESCET

ESCET is a state-owned college of education in Enugu with a technical and vocational focus. Its 2026/2027 advert, as reprinted by Myschool, describes a “re-branded” straight five-year programme: the NCE after three years, a bachelor’s degree after two more, and a practical vocational skill certificate at no extra fee. The advert does not name the degree-awarding body or the approval for the degree years, so ask the college about both before you count on the degree.

What you study

  • Human anatomy and physiology: how the body moves and responds to exercise.
  • Sports and games: athletics, ball games, swimming where facilities allow, rules and officiating.
  • Coaching and fitness: training methods, fitness testing and sports injuries.
  • Health education: school health, personal and community health, nutrition and disease prevention.
  • First aid and safety: handling injuries and emergencies in schools and sport.
  • Education and general studies: psychology, curriculum, PHE teaching methods, then teaching practice.

This follows the usual NCE pattern for PHE. ESCET’s own course outline is not online.

Accreditation

The NCCE accredited colleges list (checked 29 October 2026) shows ESCET as an open state college of education. Programme-level NCCE accreditation for PHE is not confirmed online, and no approval for the degree years has been published.

Careers and next steps

  • Teaching: Physical and Health Education in primary and secondary schools, after TRCN registration.
  • Sport and fitness: school sports master or mistress, coaching assistant, gym and fitness instructor roles.
  • Health promotion: school health and community health education programmes.
  • Degree by Direct Entry: through the degree years ESCET advertises or the brochure route above. Compare our ESUT Human Kinetics and Health Education guide and UNN Human Kinetics and Health Education guide.

If you are also preparing for a UTME, our JAMB Biology syllabus guide lists the topics.

ESCET Physical and Health Education: frequently asked questions

What is the ESCET cut-off mark for Physical and Health Education in 2027/2028? There is none for candidates with four or more O’level credits, because NCE applicants are exempt from the UTME. ESCET has not published a PHE figure.

Is there a fitness test for PHE at ESCET? ESCET has not published one, and JAMB’s brochure entry for PHE lists no fitness or medical requirement. Wait for an official ESCET notice before believing otherwise.

Do I need Biology for Physical and Health Education? ESCET has not said for the NCE, but the brochure makes Biology the core subject for PHE at degree level. I would have the credit.

Can I use Health Science instead of Biology for ESCET PHE? Some universities accept Health Science alongside or in place of Biology, but not all. A Biology credit avoids the question.
