OSISATECH Science Laboratory Technology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

OSISATECH Science Laboratory Technology cut-off mark for 2027/2028: JAMB’s 100 minimum, OSISATECH’s 140 guidance, the UTME subjects JAMB actually lists (no Chemistry), O’level credits, fees and CAPS steps.

The OSISATECH Science Laboratory Technology cut-off mark starts at 100, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics, and the official FAQ of Our Saviour Institute of Science and Technology, Enugu says applicants who score 140 and above are likely to be admitted. Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) is on JAMB’s course list for OSISATECH. The detail most candidates get wrong is the UTME combination: for OSISATECH, JAMB’s brochure does not include Chemistry among the UTME subjects, even though you need a Chemistry credit at O’level.

2027/2028 update: OSISATECH cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

This page sets out the official figures, a safe target score, the exact UTME and O’level rules, OSISATECH’s admission process with a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the ND and HND options in SLT cover.

OSISATECH Science Laboratory Technology cut-off mark: the official figures

Two figures matter. The first is JAMB’s. At its 2026 policy meeting JAMB kept the minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics at 100 for 2026/2027 (NAN, 11 May 2026), the same figure it set for 2025/2026 (Nairametrics, 8 July 2025). Below 100 no polytechnic can admit you.

The second is OSISATECH’s own. Its official FAQ page, published in September 2021, says the cut-off is reviewed every year and that, for now, applicants who score 140 and above are likely to be admitted. That line covers all courses; there is no separate figure for Science Laboratory Technology. The school has not posted a newer number, so 140 is the best guide to what OSISATECH expects.

If a blog quotes a different OSISATECH departmental cut-off for Science Laboratory Technology, ask for the school notice behind it. I could not find one.

Safe target score (consultant advice)

I would aim for 145 or more, a few marks above the school’s own guidance. That 140 line dates from 2021 and is reviewed yearly, so a small cushion is sensible. SLT often appeals to science candidates who missed Medical Laboratory Science or Pharmacy at a university, and 145 also keeps IMT Enugu’s SLT open.

Your UTME scoreWhat it means at OSISATECH
Below 100Not eligible for any polytechnic
100 to 139Eligible on paper, but below OSISATECH’s own 140 guidance

UTME subject combination for SLT at OSISATECH

JAMB’s polytechnic brochure entry for Science Laboratory Technology asks for any three of Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics, with Use of English compulsory (brochure entry). Since there are only three subjects to choose from, that means all three. A set of remarks lets certain schools take Chemistry, including Damaturu Poly, IMT Enugu, Ede Poly, Osun Poly, Ilaro and NILEST. OSISATECH is not among them.

SubjectStatus at OSISATECH
Use of EnglishCompulsory
MathematicsCompulsory
Biology or Agricultural ScienceCompulsory (one of the two)
PhysicsCompulsory
ChemistryNot in the general list; accepted only by the schools named in JAMB’s remarks

So the safe combination for OSISATECH is English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics. Many candidates write English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics by habit. That set fits a university science course, but on JAMB’s general rule it does not fit SLT at OSISATECH. If you have already registered with Chemistry, contact OSISATECH before screening and ask whether it will accept you; do not assume it will.

O’level requirements for OSISATECH SLT

The brochure asks for five credits in Mathematics and two of Physics, Biology (or Agricultural Science or Health Science) and Chemistry, plus two others. It then adds that credits in English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics are compulsory. OSISATECH’s own admission page limits you to two sittings.

RequirementDetail
Number of creditsFive
Compulsory creditsMathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
SittingsNo more than two
Exams acceptedWAEC, GCE O’level, SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or equivalent

In practice your five credits are already fixed: Mathematics, English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. A pass in any of them rules you out, so check your result slip line by line before you buy a form.

HND and Direct Entry

JAMB’s brochure leaves the SLT Direct Entry section blank, and HND admission does not use the UTME. OSISATECH asks HND applicants for an ND from an accredited polytechnic. The 2018 schoolings.org list shows SLT at ND level with HND options in Microbiology, Biochemistry and Chemistry. See our OSISATECH HND guide.

OSISATECH also runs part-time ND, and its admission page says part-time applicants do not need the UTME. A 2018 blog list of OSISATECH courses (schoolings.org) shows Science Laboratory Technology under the School of Continuing Education as well. If you missed the UTME, ask the school whether part-time Science Laboratory Technology is admitting and how long it runs before you pay; the details are not on the website.

OSISATECH screening and a worked example

OSISATECH’s FAQ page says the school does not currently hold a post-UTME exam, that applicants who passed JAMB and have good O’level results can apply, and that you first present your credentials to the admission officer at the Ogui campus for validation, then pay for the form at Ohha Microfinance Bank, #1 Ogui Road. The fees page lists the form at N10,000. The admission page also says forms are bought at the school, so plan to go in person. The school’s published email for questions is osisatechinstitute@gmail.com.

Without a test, your ranking is likely to rest on your UTME score and your O’level grades, which is why the worked example below uses only those two.

Worked example (illustrative)

Amarachi scored 142 with English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics. Her WAEC result, one sitting, reads English C5, Mathematics C6, Biology B3, Chemistry C4 and Physics C6. She has all five compulsory credits and the right UTME set.

As an illustration only, using the 50/50 UTME and O’level mix many polytechnics use: 142 divided by 8 gives 17.75. With A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5, her grades give 6 + 5 + 8 + 7 + 5 = 31. Her illustrative total is 48.75 out of 100. OSISATECH has published no formula. Amarachi clears the school’s 140 line with the right subjects; three more marks would reach my 145 target.

Her classmate Uche scored 165, but with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. On JAMB’s general SLT rule his combination does not fit OSISATECH, so his higher score helps him less than Amarachi’s correct subjects help her.

How to apply for SLT at OSISATECH

  1. Create your JAMB profile: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line you will use for JAMB. The reply carries your profile code.
  2. Pick OSISATECH and Science Laboratory Technology: JAMB lists the school as Our Saviour Institute of Science, Agric. & Tech. Choose it at registration, or move to it later with a JAMB change of institution.
  3. Write the UTME: aim for 145 or more, then check your JAMB result.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB accredited centre, and upload both results if you are using two sittings. A school cannot recommend you on CAPS without them.
  5. Validate and buy the form: take your JAMB result and O’level certificates to the admission officer at the Ogui campus, #1 Ogui Road, Enugu, then pay for the form (N10,000 on the 2021 fees page) at Ohha Microfinance Bank.
  6. Accept on CAPS: JAMB’s 2026 rules give you four weeks to accept an offer before it can lapse. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows the screens.
  7. Pay and register: print your JAMB admission letter, pay school fees at Ohha Microfinance Bank and keep every receipt. Your student portal is osisatech.skool-board.com.

JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, so the current cycle runs until 31 December 2026. If you chose a different course or school on your JAMB form, use JAMB change of course together with change of institution before then.

What OSISATECH charges (older official figures)

OSISATECH’s fees page lists one set of charges for its ND, HND and NCE students, payable at Ohha Microfinance Bank on Ogui Road. The page was last changed in March 2021 and names no session, so treat these as a guide and confirm the current amounts before you pay. The 2021 FAQ adds that OSISATECH charges no acceptance fee; you still accept the offer on JAMB CAPS.

Warning

JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal. A full-time ND place at OSISATECH must show on your CAPS page before you pay school fees. Do not pay anyone who offers a place without it.

Your chances and backup options

OSISATECH publishes no intake numbers, so this is my judgement. A first-choice candidate with the correct UTME subjects, 140 or more and the five compulsory credits should be in a good position. For SLT, check your subject combination before you worry about your score.

What you study in ND Science Laboratory Technology

OSISATECH has not published its SLT outline. Under NBTE’s national curriculum, the ND is a common first stage before students specialise at HND level. It usually covers:

  • General and practical chemistry, biology and physics
  • Laboratory techniques, safety and management of a laboratory
  • Instrumentation and the care of laboratory equipment
  • Basic microbiology and biochemistry
  • Mathematics and statistics for science
  • A project and the general ND courses in communication and entrepreneurship

SIWES places you in a working laboratory, often a hospital, school, water or food company, between the first and second years. At HND level, OSISATECH’s 2018 course list names Microbiology, Biochemistry and Chemistry options.

Duration and accreditation

The full-time ND takes two years; an HND takes two more after the ND and industrial training. OSISATECH says NBTE approved its ND admissions in December 1991, and the schoolings.org list names SLT among its NBTE-accredited courses, but I found no current NBTE record for the programme. Accreditation is not confirmed. Ask for the department’s NBTE letter before paying.

SLT is not Medical Laboratory Science. An SLT diploma does not license you to run diagnostic tests in a hospital laboratory, which is regulated separately.

Careers

  • Laboratory technologist or technician in schools, colleges and research institutes
  • Quality control in food, drink, water and pharmaceutical companies
  • Laboratory roles in environmental and agricultural testing
  • HND in a chosen option, or Direct Entry into a university science degree

For the UTME, our JAMB Biology syllabus guide covers one of your three core subjects.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Writing Chemistry in the UTME for OSISATECH: JAMB’s general SLT rule does not include it.
  • Having only a pass in Physics or Chemistry: all four sciences and English need credits.
  • Using three sittings: OSISATECH accepts two at most.
  • Treating SLT as a route to hospital lab work: that is Medical Laboratory Science.
  • Paying before your admission shows on CAPS.
