The Maduka University Mechanical Engineering cut off mark is 150 in the UTME. Maduka takes JAMB’s national minimum for universities as its cut-off for all courses, and it has not set a higher figure for Mechanical Engineering. To apply you need 150 or more in Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus the right O’level credits.
2027/2028 update: Maduka University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Mechanical Engineering is a B.Eng. in Maduka’s engineering unit, on the university’s July 2026 programme list next to Mechatronics, Civil, Computer and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. One caution before you pay: I could not confirm an accreditation result for Maduka’s Mechanical Engineering. It was not among the seven programmes in the university’s July 2026 NUC accreditation release, and I found no NUC report or COREN record for it. Ask Maduka for the programme’s current status in writing. On JAMB, register the course as Mechanical Engineering.
One thing I could not open myself: Maduka’s course list in the JAMB brochure. Myschool’s copy was not reachable, and Maduka’s website loads nothing readable. A third-party copy of the list (universitycourses.ng, updated March 2026) includes Mechanical Engineering. Even so, search for the course in the JAMB e-brochure or on the registration screen at your CBT centre and make sure Maduka University appears under it before you pay. For comparison, see UNN Mechanical Engineering and ESUT Mechanical and Production Engineering.

Maduka has used JAMB’s minimum in every intake since November 2023. For 2026/2027, our pages put UNN’s minimum to apply for Mechanical Engineering at 160 and ESUT’s for Mechanical and Production Engineering at 160, and both then rank applicants by merit. Maduka has published no ranking stage.
Safe target score for Mechanical Engineering at Maduka (my advice)
These bands are my judgement as an adviser. Maduka has not published them.
| Your UTME score | My read for Mechanical Engineering at Maduka |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible this session. Maduka’s IJMB or pre-degree, or a 2027 rewrite |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible, with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in your UTME |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable |
| 200 and above | Strong, with UNN and ESUT as realistic backups |
I would aim for 170 or more in the 2027 UTME. The admission risk at Maduka is less about the score and more about subjects: Chemistry must be in your UTME, and you need credits in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at O’level. Mechanical Engineering also has a heavy mathematics load from the first semester, so a weak Mathematics grade is a warning sign even if you scrape in.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Mechanical Engineering
| Requirement | Mechanical Engineering |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other science subject |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes from Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics; or ND upper credit, NCE (Technical) or HND in Mechanical Engineering (JAMB brochure) |
| Maduka remark in the JAMB brochure | None seen in Myschool’s reprint of the Mechanical Engineering page |
| Sittings | Not stated by Maduka; one sitting is safest |
The remarks on Myschool’s Mechanical Engineering page belong to other universities, such as FUTA, UNILAG, UNN and ABU, and none of them mentions Maduka. Further Mathematics and Technical Drawing are not required, but both make the first two years easier.
Direct Entry into Mechanical Engineering
JAMB’s general Direct Entry rule for Mechanical Engineering is wider than for Civil: it lists two A-level passes from Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, or an ND at upper credit, an NCE (Technical) or an HND in Mechanical Engineering. Maduka’s adverts say it takes A-level, OND, NCE and equivalents. Ask Admissions which level you would enter with an ND or HND, because universities decide that themselves.
Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering at Maduka?
Maduka runs both, and Wikipedia’s summary of the programme list even groups them together as “Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering”. They are separate degrees on the current list.
| Mechanical Engineering | Mechatronics Engineering | |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | Machines, energy, thermodynamics, manufacturing and design | Mechanical systems combined with electronics, sensors, control and programming |
| Typical jobs | Manufacturing, oil and gas, power plants, automotive, maintenance | Automation, robotics, industrial control, smart manufacturing |
| Degree | B.Eng. | B.Eng. |
| Maduka accreditation found | Not confirmed | Not confirmed |
If you are not sure, Mechanical is the broader and older discipline with more employers who recognise it. Mechatronics suits you if you enjoy both machines and coding. See Maduka Mechatronics Engineering for that course.

Worked example for a Mechanical Engineering applicant
Illustrative only, since Maduka has no published aggregate.
Somto scored 177 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. His O’level has B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry, C4 in Further Mathematics and C6 in English from one sitting.
- Eligibility: 177 minus 150 = 27, comfortably above the minimum.
- UTME subjects: the exact Mechanical Engineering combination.
- O’level: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Further Mathematics as the extra science. All five are credits.
- My read: he is above my 170 line with strong Mathematics. Once his O’level is on CAPS and Maduka is his institution on JAMB, he is in a good position.
Nneka scored 196 but her O’level shows a D7 in Chemistry. Her UTME is fine, but she lacks a Chemistry credit. She would need to add a result from another sitting (and confirm that Maduka accepts two sittings) before she can be admitted.

| Payment plan | Two instalments (60% and 40%) | Fee schedule (The Vent Republic) |
| Feeding | Pay as you eat | Fee schedule (The Vent Republic) |
The 2026/2027 figures are Maduka’s own schedule as reprinted by The Vent Republic, which says the amount covers tuition and accommodation with no hidden charges; I could not open the original on Maduka’s site. Workshop practice adds costs for overalls, safety boots and tools, and SIWES placement may add transport and accommodation later. Check the current fees on Maduka’s portal before you pay.
How to apply for Mechanical Engineering at Maduka, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: pick Mechanical Engineering as your course, sit English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and put Maduka University as your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before you apply.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: visit an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. Universities cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Apply on Maduka’s portal: create an applicant profile, enter your JAMB details and O’level grades, choose Mechanical Engineering, and pay the ₦5,000 form fee online (reported to be through Paystack). Print the application slip.
- Follow up: Maduka has not published a written test, so watch your email and the portal for screening instructions or an invitation, and write to admission@madukauniversity.edu.ng if you hear nothing.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer only when it shows Mechanical Engineering at Maduka. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: pay the ₦50,000 acceptance fee only through Maduka’s portal, then bring your original O’level, JAMB result slip and admission letter for clearance.
Warning
Every genuine university admission in Nigeria appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB treats admissions done outside CAPS as illegal. If anyone offers you a Maduka “slot” for money, ignore them. Pay fees only through the university’s own portal invoice.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, so Maduka’s 2026/2027 offers run until that date. If you sat the 2026 UTME and applied, check CAPS now. If you are writing the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and our guide to checking your JAMB result and what to do with the score.
Studying Mechanical Engineering at Maduka University
The programme sits in Maduka’s engineering unit at Ekwegbe, Igbo-Etiti LGA, Enugu State, on the Enugu to Nsukka road. B.Eng. degrees in Nigeria normally run for five years, with industrial training built in.
Accreditation: what I could and could not confirm
- Nairametrics and TheCable reported in July 2024 that NUC’s first visit in October 2023 recognised 19 Maduka programmes for take-off, without listing them.
- Maduka’s July 2026 press release names seven programmes with full NUC accreditation. Mechanical Engineering is not among them.
- I found no NUC accreditation report and no COREN record for Maduka’s Mechanical Engineering.
New programmes are usually accredited once students reach the later years, so the gap is expected for a university that opened in 2023. Still, ask Maduka for the current NUC status and for when COREN is expected to visit, and keep the reply. COREN accreditation affects how smoothly graduates move to registration as engineers.
What you study

Mistakes that cost Mechanical Engineering applicants a place
- Registering Biology in place of Chemistry: Chemistry is compulsory in the UTME.
- Missing a Chemistry or Physics credit: both are required at O’level.
- Not asking about accreditation: get the current NUC and COREN position from Maduka in writing.
- O’level not on CAPS: without it no offer can be made.
- Paying an agent: genuine offers only come through CAPS and the portal.
