Central College Yola Admission Requirements 2027/2028: Approval Status

Central College of Health Science and Technology, Yola is under an October 2025 Adamawa State order to upgrade before reopening. See its approval status, what it means for applicants and approved alternatives for 2027/2028.

Central College of Health Science and Technology, Yola admission requirements cannot be given with confidence, because the college is under a state compliance order. On 20 October 2025 the Adamawa State Government placed it among eight private health colleges given six to twelve months to upgrade facilities, staffing and accreditation before they could reopen, subject to a final assessment by the state Ministry of Health. I found no announcement that it has passed that assessment or reopened. Do not pay for a form until the state confirms it.

2027/2028 update: admission requirements and the entrance process at private health colleges usually stay the same from one year to the next, but this college’s position depends on the state compliance order of October 2025. If the Adamawa State Government confirms a reopening, we will update this page.

I also found no website, course list, admission form, JAMB listing or approval from any health council for the college. This page explains the government action, what it means for you, how to check the status yourself and which approved colleges you can apply to instead.

What the Adamawa State Government decided

In October 2025 the state reviewed private colleges of health science and technology. The statement, issued by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and reported by BusinessDay the same day, sorted the colleges into three groups:

  • Reopened: Saadatu College was approved to reopen.
  • Conditional: eight colleges were given six to twelve months to upgrade facilities, staffing and accreditation, with a final assessment by the Ministry of Health and Human Services before any of them reopens. Colleges that miss the benchmarks face permanent closure. Central College of Health Science and Technology, Yola is in this group.
  • Closed: fifteen colleges must remain closed until further notice for failing minimum establishment standards.

The other seven colleges in the conditional group are Savannah (Yola), School of Health Technology Jimeta, NAFAN (Jimeta), School of Health Technology Mayo Belwa, Humanity (Hong), Abubakar Isa Ahmadu (Mubi) and EYN Brethren (Garkida).

What this means for you

  • New applicants: wait. Until the Ministry of Health confirms a reopening, an admission exercise has no official backing.
  • If the college reopens: ask for the reopening letter and for the council approval of the exact course you want before you pay.
  • Students already enrolled: ask the Ministry of Health how the order affects you, and keep copies of results and receipts.
  • Certificates: health certificates need council approval to lead to a licence; a state reopening alone does not give that.

How to check the status yourself

  1. Look for a newer state statement: search the Adamawa State Government website for the college’s name and any reopening notice dated after October 2025.
  2. Ask the Ministry of Health and Human Services in Yola: it carries out the final assessment and can confirm whether the college may admit students.
  3. Ask the council for your course: NBTE for National Diplomas, CHPRBN for community health, EHORECON for environmental health, MLSCN for laboratory courses, PCN for pharmacy technicians, NMCN for nursing.
  4. Check JAMB: if the college says you need JAMB, confirm it appears on JAMB’s list and that your admission shows on CAPS.
  5. Get everything in writing: any approval you are shown should name the college and the course, with a date.

Warning

Do not pay for a Central College Yola form, acceptance fee or school fees until the Adamawa State Government publicly confirms the college has passed its assessment and you have seen the council approval for your course in writing.

Health courses and the bodies that approve them

Private health colleges usually advertise a mix of certificate and diploma courses. Whatever the college offers when, or if, it reopens, each course needs approval from the right body before its certificate leads to a licence. Use this table when you ask questions:

Course typeBody to checkWhat approval gives you
Community Health (JCHEW, CHEW)Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN)Indexing during training and registration as a community health worker
Environmental HealthEnvironmental Health Officers Registration Council of Nigeria (EHORECON)Registration as an environmental health officer or technician
Medical Laboratory TechnicianMedical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN)Registration as a laboratory technician
Pharmacy TechnicianPharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN)Indexing, qualifying exam and registration
Health Information ManagementHealth Records Officers Registration Board of Nigeria (HRORBN)Registration as a health records officer
Nursing or Midwifery of any kindNursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN)Indexing, professional exams and licence
Any National DiplomaNational Board for Technical Education (NBTE)A recognised ND that employers and HND programmes accept

A state permission to operate and a council approval are two different things. A college needs the first to open its gates, and each course needs the second for its graduates to work.

If you already paid or enrolled

  1. Stop further payments: do not pay new fees while the college’s status is unresolved.
  2. Gather your records: receipts, admission letter, results, student ID and any course outline.
  3. Write to the college: ask in writing for its current status, its plan for students and, if it cannot operate, a refund.
  4. Contact the Ministry of Health and Human Services: ask what arrangements exist for affected students and whether any approved college is taking transfers.
  5. Plan a fresh start if needed: register for the 2027 UTME or an approved college’s entrance exam, so you do not lose another year.

Questions to ask any private health college before you pay

  • Is the college allowed to operate today? Ask for the latest letter from the Adamawa State Ministry of Health and Human Services.
  • Which council approved my exact course, and when? Ask to see the letter, not a poster.
  • Will I be indexed by the council, and in which year? Approved programmes index students early.
  • Is the college on JAMB’s list for National Diploma courses? If yes, your admission should appear on CAPS.
  • Where do students do their clinical or field postings? A real programme has named hospitals or health centres.
  • What is the full fee for the whole course, in writing? Avoid colleges that add surprise charges each term.

A college that answers all six clearly, with documents, is worth considering. One that avoids them is a risk, whatever its status.

How to spot an unapproved health college

  • No council name on the course: approved programmes can tell you which council approved them and when.
  • Admission “without JAMB” for a National Diploma: ND admissions are expected to pass through CAPS.
  • Payment to a personal account: colleges should issue an official invoice or Remita reference.
  • Promises of quick certificates or automatic jobs: health licences come only after council exams.
  • Name not on any state or council list: search the official lists before you pay.

Sources and updates

The state action, the three groups of colleges and the names on each list are from the Adamawa State Government statement of 20 October 2025 by the Chief Press Secretary, also reported by BusinessDay. The nursing approvals are from NMCN’s December 2025 list of approved schools, checked on 3 November 2026.
