Caritas University Computer Engineering Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

JAMB’s 150, not Caritas’s advertised 140, is the real minimum for Computer Engineering at Caritas University. No Further Mathematics needed. See subjects, Direct Entry, NUC status and the CAPS steps.

The Caritas University Computer Engineering cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME in practice. Caritas’s admissions page invites anyone with 140 and above, but JAMB’s 2026 minimum for universities is 150, and no university can admit below that through CAPS. Caritas has not published a separate Computer Engineering figure and does not hold a written Post-UTME test.

2027/2028 update: Caritas University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

JAMB’s general O’level rule for Computer Engineering includes Further Mathematics, but JAMB’s brochure has a special remark for Caritas that asks for English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other science subject instead. So you do not need a Further Mathematics credit for Caritas. The course is on JAMB’s Caritas list as Computer Engineering, and the NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results show it at Full accreditation with a maturity date of 2027. Below are the subjects, Direct Entry routes, screening, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.

The notice titled for 2025/2026 still refers to the “2019 JAMB UTME” and a closing date of 15 February 2025, so it is old text that Caritas keeps reposting. I use it only for two points that have stayed constant: the 140 figure and the statement that there is no Post-UTME screening test. Blogs such as O3schools (January 2026) and Studentship repeat both points.

Neither the old notice nor the 2026/2027 admissions page names Computer Engineering. Both give the same general figure, which JAMB’s 2026 decision has overtaken.

Score warning

Caritas’s admissions page still says candidates with 140 and above can apply. JAMB’s 2026 minimum for every university is 150, and JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal, so a UTME score from 140 to 149 cannot give you a valid Caritas admission. Do not pay any agent who promises to “process” one.

Safe target score for Computer Engineering at Caritas (my advice)

Computer Engineering draws a lot of applicants who first wanted Computer Science or Software Engineering, so it attracts candidates with a wide range of scores. At a private university with no test, what decides your case is the floor plus your subjects. I set my target a little higher than for Caritas’s other engineering courses because the course is heavy on mathematics, circuits and programming, and a stronger UTME score tends to mean you will cope better.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Caritas Computer Engineering
Below 150Not eligible through UTME this session
150 to 179Eligible; apply early and have your O’level ready on CAPS
180 to 209Comfortable for Caritas
210 and aboveStrong; worth comparing ESUT and UNN as well

My target for a 2027 candidate is 180 or more.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Computer Engineering at Caritas

JAMB’s brochure entry for Computer Engineering has special remarks for several universities, and Caritas is named in all three sections: UTME, O’level and Direct Entry. The Caritas remarks replace the general lines for you.

RequirementJAMB general lineCaritas remark
UTMEMathematics, Physics and ChemistryMathematics, Physics, Chemistry (same)
O’levelFive credits including Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and EnglishFive credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other science subject
Direct EntryThree A-level passes in Pure (or Pure and Applied) Mathematics, Chemistry and PhysicsDegree, NCE/ND/HND or A-level/IJMB/JUPEB routes (below)

Further Mathematics: what the Caritas remark means

Many candidates read the general Computer Engineering line, see Further Mathematics and give up on the course because their school never offered it. For Caritas the remark lists English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one more science, which can be Biology, Agricultural Science or Further Mathematics if you have it. Caritas’s own Faculty of Engineering list names Biology or Agricultural Science as the fifth subject, so a Biology or Agricultural Science credit is the safest choice.

Direct Entry routes at Caritas

JAMB’s Computer Engineering entry is one of the few where Caritas has a detailed Direct Entry remark. It accepts any one of these:

  • A bachelor’s degree in one of Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Chemistry.
  • An NCE, ND or HND at lower credit or better in one of Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Chemistry.
  • GCE A-level, IJMB or JUPEB passes in Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry.

The remark does not say which level you enter. Ask Caritas whether an ND holder starts at 200 level and whether an HND or degree holder can go higher. Caritas runs its own JUPEB programme for 2026/2027, so the JUPEB route is worth asking about if your UTME score fell short.

How Caritas screens Computer Engineering applicants

Who can applyCandidates with 140 and above, first choice or not (150 in practice)
Written Post-UTME testNone, according to Caritas’s admission notice
Awaiting resultAllowed if the result is out by resumption

The no-test statement comes from a notice Caritas has reposted with old dates, so take it as long-standing practice and check the admissions page for any 2027/2028 change.

Worked example

These figures are illustrative. Since Caritas publishes no aggregate, the checks are the floor, my target and the O’level.

Tobenna scored 184 with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. His WAEC result has B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry and C4 in Biology. He never took Further Mathematics.

  1. JAMB floor: 184 minus 150 = 34. Eligible.
  2. Against my target: 184 minus 180 = 4. Comfortable.
  3. O’level: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Under the Caritas remark he does not need Further Mathematics. He qualifies.
  4. Next step: apply, upload his result to CAPS and accept the offer quickly.

Now take Ngozi, who scored 172 but registered Mathematics, Physics and Biology in the UTME. Her score clears the floor, yet without Chemistry her combination does not fit Computer Engineering. She could do a JAMB change of course to Computer Science at Caritas, where JAMB usually takes Mathematics, Physics and one other science (confirm the exact rule on that post), or rewrite the UTME with Chemistry next year.

Admission odds and advice

  • No Further Mathematics barrier at Caritas: this helps candidates whose schools never offered Further Mathematics.
  • Physics is not optional: it is in both the UTME and the O’level for this course.
  • Put Caritas first on JAMB so the CAPS step is straightforward.
  • Know the 2026/2027 date: JAMB’s admission window for private universities runs until 30 November 2026 for the current session.
  • Ask about labs: Computer Engineering needs digital electronics, microprocessor and networking labs. Ask what Caritas has before you pay.

How to apply for Computer Engineering at Caritas, step by step

  1. Profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line registered with your NIN, then use the code to register.
  2. UTME registration: choose Caritas University and “Computer Engineering”, and write Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  3. O’level on CAPS: upload your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as it is out. CAPS cannot show you to Caritas without it.
  4. Caritas application: go to the admissions page on caritasuni.edu.ng, use the application link or the “Contact admissions” option, and apply for Computer Engineering. Caritas has not published the 2026/2027 form price, so pay only the amount the official portal shows and keep the receipt.
  5. Screening: there is no written Post-UTME test on record. Expect Caritas to check your UTME score, subjects and O’level, and bring originals if you are called for document screening.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer once it appears. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows every screen.
  7. Acceptance and school fees: Caritas says its fees were revised but publishes no amounts. Pay only into the account on your official Caritas invoice, then print your JAMB admission letter.

Studying Computer Engineering at Caritas University

Accreditation

  • NUC: the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026) lists Computer Engineering under Caritas with earlier results of Interim, Interim, Full and Interim, and a current Full status maturing in 2027. That history means the department has had to fix deficiencies before. With maturity in 2027, the next NUC visit should come early in a 2027 entrant’s course, so ask the department for the result once it is out.
  • COREN: I found no COREN accreditation report naming Caritas. Treat COREN accreditation as not confirmed and ask the department for its letter.

Degree, duration and what you study

Caritas awards a B.Eng. Computer Engineering degrees in Nigeria run for five years from 100 level, and Caritas has not published a different length. Expect roughly this sequence:

  • Early years: engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing, workshop practice, introduction to programming and basic electrical circuits.
  • Middle years: digital logic, electronic devices and circuits, signals and systems, data structures, computer architecture, microprocessors and assembly language.
  • Industrial training: SIWES placements with ICT firms, telecom companies, banks’ IT departments or electronics workshops.
  • Final year: embedded systems, computer networks, operating systems, control engineering, a design project and a research project.

Careers

Computer engineers work as embedded systems and firmware developers, network engineers, hardware and IoT designers, telecom engineers and software developers. Many graduates go into general software roles because the degree includes a lot of programming. COREN registration matters most for those who want to practise as professional engineers in hardware, telecoms or infrastructure.

For the UTME, the JAMB Chemistry syllabus covers one of your three subjects. If your subjects do not fit, our JAMB change of course guide explains what you can still fix.

Mistakes that cost Computer Engineering applicants a Caritas place

  • Relying on 140: JAMB’s 150 is the floor for CAPS.
  • Registering Biology instead of Physics or Chemistry: the UTME must be Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Missing a Physics or Chemistry credit: both are named in the Caritas remark.
  • Keeping another university first: do a JAMB change of institution if you now want Caritas.
  • Not uploading O’level to CAPS: no upload, no offer.

Caritas Computer Engineering cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
