Rhema University Cut-Off Mark for Medicine and Surgery 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Rhema University, Aba has not published an MBBS cut-off, so JAMB’s 150 is the official minimum. See the safe target score, O’level and UTME subjects, how the MBBS screening works and Rhema’s MDCN status.

The Rhema University cut-off mark for Medicine and Surgery is 150 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s national minimum for universities for 2026/2027. Rhema University, Aba has not published a separate departmental cut-off for MBBS on any official page, and it does not appear on the list of institution-declared cut-offs released after JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. So 150 lets you apply, and Rhema then runs a separate screening to choose its MBBS students.

2027/2028 update: Rhema cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Below you will find what is official and what is not, a safe target score (clearly marked as my advice), the UTME subjects and O’level rules from Rhema’s own admissions page, how the MBBS screening ran in 2025, a worked example, the CAPS steps, and where the College of Medicine and Health Sciences stands with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

One thing to clear up early: a few blogs describe “Rhema University, Obeama-Asa, Rivers State”. That is a mix-up. Rhema University’s own website places the university on Aba-Owerri Road, Aba, in Abia State, and every figure on this page is for that university.

Some sites print a “Rhema cut-off for all courses” list from 2018/2019. I have not seen any official Rhema document behind it, and it is many sessions old, so I would not plan with it.

Safe target score for Medicine at Rhema (my advice)

Rhema is a private university, and private universities usually see fewer applicants per Medicine seat than federal ones such as UNN or UNIPORT. Even so, the MDCN caps how many students a medical school can take, and Rhema runs a separate screening for MBBS, which tells you it is sorting candidates rather than admitting everyone above 150. The table below is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a Rhema rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Rhema MBBS
Below 150Not eligible for any Rhema degree course
150 to 179Eligible on paper; Medicine is a long shot, so plan a second option
180 to 199Possible if you do very well at the screening and have strong O’level grades
200 to 229Competitive
230 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for at least 220, with A1 or B2 in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. A score in that range also keeps federal and state medical schools open to you if you change your mind before CAPS.

O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
Exams acceptedWASSCE or NECO SSCE (named on Rhema’s page)
SittingsNot stated for MBBS; one sitting is safest
Entry modesUTME into 100 level; Direct Entry into 200 level
Extra stepSeparate MBBS screening exercise

The JAMB brochure (as reprinted by Myschool) lists Physics, Chemistry and Biology for Medicine and Surgery, and English is compulsory in every UTME. Rhema is not named in the brochure’s school-specific remarks for Medicine, so no special waiver applies to it in that listing. Do not drop Physics for Mathematics; only a few universities named in the brochure accept that swap, and Rhema is not one of them.

Direct Entry into MBBS at Rhema

Rhema’s admissions page says Direct Entry candidates go into 200 level. On top of the five O’level credits, you need one of these:

  • A-level GCE passes in at least two relevant subjects
  • IJMB
  • NCE in relevant subjects
  • ND at upper credit in relevant subjects
  • HND at lower credit in relevant subjects
  • A first degree in a related field

That is the general list Rhema prints for its science courses. For Medicine, most Nigerian schools expect the A-level or IJMB subjects to be Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology. If you are coming in with an ND, NCE or HND, call the admissions office first and ask whether MBBS takes your qualification at all, because the MDCN quota leaves very few Direct Entry seats in most medical schools.

How Rhema screens MBBS candidates

Rhema has not posted a 2026/2027 screening notice for Medicine on any page I could reach. The latest notice I could confirm is the 2025/2026 one, reprinted by Myschool on 10 September 2025. It is the best guide to what the next exercise will look like.

Admissions office08107159322

The pen, pencil and eraser point to a written paper. The notice does not name the subjects, but a Medicine screening at a Nigerian university normally covers English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at UTME level, so revise those four. The two outside centres help if you live in Lagos or Abuja, since you do not have to travel to Aba for the test.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Rhema has not published how it combines UTME and screening scores. Many Nigerian universities use a 50:50 aggregate: UTME score divided by 8 (out of 50) plus the screening score scaled to 50. I am using that method below only to show how a strong screening can make up for a modest UTME score. Do not treat it as Rhema’s formula.

  1. Chiamaka: UTME 212, so 212 ÷ 8 = 26.5. She scores 74% at screening, worth 37. Her illustrative aggregate is 63.5.
  2. Emeka: UTME 248, so 248 ÷ 8 = 31. He scores 48% at screening, worth 24. His illustrative aggregate is 55.
  3. What it shows: Emeka had 36 more UTME marks, yet Chiamaka finishes 8.5 points ahead. If Rhema weights the screening at all, preparing for it matters as much as your JAMB score.
  4. O’level check: both need credits in all five required subjects, uploaded to JAMB CAPS. A missing Physics credit ends the application whatever the aggregate.

Your chances of getting Medicine at Rhema

I can’t give you a number of MBBS places because neither Rhema nor the MDCN has published the quota. Here is how I would think about your odds instead:

  • Your first choice matters: Rhema works from candidates who chose it in the UTME or moved to it by change of institution. If Rhema is not on your JAMB profile, it cannot offer you anything on CAPS.
  • The screening is where you separate yourself: everyone in the hall has at least 150. Your preparation for that paper is under your control.
  • Fees decide as much as scores: Medicine at a private university is expensive. Rhema’s fee schedule was not readable in any source I reached, so get the official figure before you commit.
  • Have a fallback: if Rhema offers you a related course such as Human Anatomy, Human Physiology or Nursing on CAPS, weigh it calmly before rejecting it.

How to apply for Medicine and Surgery at Rhema, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. You need the code to buy the UTME form.
  2. Choose Rhema and MBBS: register the UTME with Medicine and Surgery, English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and Rhema University as your institution. If you picked another school, do a JAMB change of institution before Rhema’s screening.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC or NECO result. Rhema cannot admit you on CAPS without it.
  4. Apply on Rhema’s portal: on rhemauniversity.edu.ng, open the Admissions page and click “Apply Now”, which leads to the admission sign-in page. Fill in your details, upload your results and print what the portal gives you.
  5. Attend the MBBS screening: watch Rhema’s website and call the admissions office for the date. In 2025 it was a single day with centres in Aba, Abuja and Lagos.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: Rhema has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Get the amount and account details from the university before paying, then complete physical clearance with your originals.

Warning

Blogs give different prices for the Rhema screening form, and some even contradict themselves on the same page. Pay only what Rhema’s own portal or admissions office tells you, and ignore anyone selling MBBS “slots”. A genuine Rhema offer always appears on your JAMB CAPS.

Studying Medicine and Surgery at Rhema University

Rhema University is a private Christian university in Aba, Abia State, established in 2010 according to the university’s own news page. MBBS sits in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, alongside Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science, Human Anatomy and Human Physiology. Rhema’s admissions page does not state the length of the programme; MBBS in Nigeria normally runs for six years.

MDCN accreditation

This is the part I would check most carefully before paying fees. According to Rhema’s news report of 27 October 2022:

  • The MDCN visited the College of Medicine and Health Sciences on 13 October 2022.
  • After the visit, the council granted pre-clinical accreditation.
  • That accreditation allows the college to run anatomy, biochemistry and physiology examinations, including the Part 1 Second MB.

I could not find a published record of clinical accreditation for Rhema’s MBBS, and I won’t claim one. The clinical years and the final MB examinations need it. Before you accept an offer, ask the College directly where clinical postings take place and what its current MDCN status is for the clinical phase.

What you study

  • 100 level: basic sciences (biology, chemistry, physics) and general studies.
  • Pre-clinical years: anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, ending in the Second MB examination, the stage Rhema’s 2022 accreditation covers.
  • Clinical years: pathology, pharmacology, community medicine, then postings in medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, ending in the final MB.
  • After graduation: MDCN provisional registration, a one-year housemanship, then NYSC and full registration.
  • Careers: hospital practice, residency training in a specialty, public health, research, and medical work in the armed forces or international agencies.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost MBBS applicants a Rhema place

  • Reading 150 as an admission score: it is only the national floor.
  • Missing the screening date: Myschool reported the 2025 notice on 10 September for a 16 September exercise. Check Rhema’s site and call the admissions office from August.
  • No Physics credit: Rhema lists Physics among the five required O’level subjects for MBBS.
  • O’level not on CAPS: an offer cannot be made without it.
  • Accepting without asking about clinical accreditation: six years is a long commitment, so get the answer first.
  • Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: the acceptance fee and clearance at Rhema are separate steps.

If you are writing the UTME again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts so you are ready on day one.

Rhema University cut-off mark for Medicine: frequently asked questions

Is 180 enough for Medicine at Rhema University? 180 clears JAMB’s minimum of 150, so you can apply and sit the screening. Whether it is enough depends on your screening result and the size of the pool, and I would aim for 220 or more.

Does Rhema University write Post-UTME for Medicine? Yes. Rhema held a separate screening for MBBS and Nursing candidates on 16 September 2025, with centres in Aba, Abuja and Lagos. The 2026/2027 notice had not appeared on pages I checked.

Is Rhema University Medicine accredited by MDCN? Rhema reported pre-clinical MDCN accreditation after a visit on 13 October 2022. I could not confirm clinical accreditation, so ask the College of Medicine and Health Sciences before you pay.

Can I study Medicine at Rhema through Direct Entry? Rhema accepts Direct Entry into 200 level with A-level, IJMB, ND, HND, NCE or a related degree on top of five O’level credits. Confirm with the admissions office that MBBS has Direct Entry seats in your year.

Sources and updates

The O’level subjects, Direct Entry qualifications, 200-level entry, the College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the “Apply Now” route come from Rhema University’s admissions page (undated, checked 29 October 2026). The MDCN pre-clinical accreditation and the 13 October 2022 visit are from Rhema’s own news report of 27 October 2022. The 2025/2026 MBBS and Nursing screening details are from Myschool’s reprint of Rhema’s notice (10 September 2025). The national minimum of 150 and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); News Central’s full list of declared institutional cut-offs from the same meeting does not include Rhema. The UTME subjects are JAMB’s brochure requirements for Medicine and Surgery as reprinted by Myschool, which has no Rhema-specific remark. The safe target score and the aggregate example are my own advice, not Rhema figures. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if Rhema publishes an MBBS cut-off, a 2026/2027 screening notice or new accreditation news.
