MOUAU Cut-Off Mark for Human Nutrition and Dietetics 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

MOUAU’s minimum for Human Nutrition and Dietetics is 150 in the UTME, with MOUAU as first choice, but a safe score is much higher. See the subject combination, O’level rules, Direct Entry, screening, a worked example and CAPS steps.

The MOUAU cut off mark for Human Nutrition and Dietetics is 150 in the UTME, with MOUAU as your first choice. Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike set that one minimum for all its courses in the 2026/2027 screening notice and did not publish a higher figure for Nutrition and Dietetics. Because it is a health-related course, I would plan for well above 150.

2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

150 gets you into screening; it does not guarantee a place. Below you will find the official figures, my safe target score, the subject combination JAMB’s brochure gives for MOUAU, how screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the degree involves.

So the honest answer is that MOUAU runs one floor of 150 for every course, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics has no published departmental cut-off. Pages that print a MOUAU “departmental cut-off” for Human Nutrition and Dietetics do not cite any MOUAU document, so treat those numbers as guesses. Admission on merit is decided after screening, and the score of the last candidate admitted is not made public.

Safe target score for Nutrition and Dietetics at MOUAU (my advice)

Nutrition and Dietetics draws many science candidates who missed Medicine, Nursing or Medical Laboratory Science, so it fills faster than most agriculture courses. This table is my judgement, not a MOUAU rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MOUAU Nutrition and Dietetics
Below 150Not eligible to register for MOUAU screening
150 to 179Eligible, but a place in this course is uncertain
180 to 199Possible with strong one-sitting O’level grades
200 to 219Competitive
220 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 200, with B grades or better in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics at one sitting.

Catchment

MOUAU is federal and admits from all states. It has not published its split between merit, catchment and educationally less developed states, so plan on merit.

UTME subject combination for Human Nutrition and Dietetics at MOUAU

On the brochure’s Human Nutrition and Dietetics page (Myschool reprint), the general UTME requirement is Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture, and Mathematics or Physics, with Use of English compulsory. MOUAU’s own remark on that page says its requirement is “As in Food Science and Technology”.

That cross-reference matters. The brochure’s Food Science and Technology page, as reprinted, gives the UTME subjects as Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics, and Agricultural Science. The two pages differ on Biology versus Agricultural Science. Before you register, open the e-brochure on your JAMB profile, find MOUAU under Human Nutrition and Dietetics, and register exactly what it shows. If it accepts either, Biology is the better pick for this course.

O’level requirements

RequirementWhat the brochure says
General rule for the courseFive credits in Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Physics and English Language
MOUAU remark“As in Food Science and Technology”
Food Science ruleFive credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics
SittingsMOUAU’s notice says sittings are weighted; its agriculture remarks allow up to two
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB

Both readings point to the same five credits, so a credit in Physics is part of the requirement here. Do not rely on a bare pass in Physics, which MOUAU accepts for some agriculture courses.

Direct Entry

For Direct Entry the general brochure rule is two A level passes from Chemistry, Biology, and Agricultural Science or Physics. MOUAU’s DE remark on the Nutrition page says “As in Home Economics”. On the Home Economics page, MOUAU accepts ND or HND in related fields. A further line there mentions SRN/NRN or NCE with distinction, but the page does not make clear whether that line is MOUAU’s or another university’s, so confirm it with MOUAU. The 2026/2027 notice, as reprinted, gave no DE details.

How MOUAU screening works

MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, set out these rules for UTME candidates:

DetailMOUAU 2026/2027 screening
Who could applyCandidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose MOUAU first; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal
Registration opened6 June 2026, online through www.mouau.edu.ng
Registration and validationportal.mouau.edu.ng
Fee₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank
O’levelWAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded to JAMB CAPS at an accredited CBT centre
How O’level countsThe notice says O’level results and the number of sittings are weighted
Awaiting resultsCandidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out
Payment problemsportal@mouau.edu.ng
Closing date and test dateNot stated in the notice as reprinted

The notice does not describe a written Post-UTME test, so I would not assume there is one. Plan on MOUAU ranking you on your UTME score and your O’level grades, with one sitting counting in your favour, and keep checking the portal in case a test or extra step is announced. The notice also told candidates to check the portal from time to time for screening results and admission status.

Worked example for a Nutrition and Dietetics candidate

MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula, so this example only measures distances. It is illustrative.

Take Adaeze, who scored 208, with B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, B3 in Chemistry, B2 in Biology and C4 in Physics from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 208 minus 150 = 58. She clears MOUAU’s minimum easily.
  2. Against my safe target: 208 minus 200 = 8. She is above my target.
  3. O’level check: credits in all five required subjects at one sitting. Nothing rules her out, and the single sitting helps.
  4. My advice: upload her result to CAPS early, register for screening as soon as it opens, and accept quickly when CAPS shows the offer.

Now take Uche, with 176 and a D7 in Physics. 176 clears 150, but without a Physics credit he misses the five-credit rule for this course. If he still wants MOUAU, a course that accepts a Physics pass, such as Agricultural Economics, is the realistic option this year.

How to apply for Human Nutrition and Dietetics at MOUAU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with MOUAU first: choose Human Nutrition and Dietetics with English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science (check MOUAU’s entry), and Mathematics or Physics. If you already registered with another school first, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. MOUAU’s notice requires your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result there.
  4. Register for screening: when MOUAU announces the exercise on www.mouau.edu.ng, register and validate on portal.mouau.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number.
  5. Pay the screening fee: ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, on the Remita invoice the portal generates. Print every receipt and slip.
  6. Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status there, and the decision then shows on JAMB CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU has not published its acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Pay only the amount shown on your MOUAU portal invoice.

Warning

Some websites sell “MOUAU departmental cut-off” lists, and some people sell admission “slots”. MOUAU’s notice gave one minimum of 150 for every course, and every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Pay MOUAU only through the Remita invoice from its portal.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date for public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions. If you applied in 2026, check CAPS now. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.

Studying Human Nutrition and Dietetics at MOUAU

The department is in the College of Applied Food Sciences and Tourism (CAFST) at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State. CAFST also runs Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology, and Home Science, Hospitality Management and Tourism. MOUAU has been a federal university of agriculture since November 1992.

What you study

  • Early years: chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physiology and general studies.
  • Nutrition science: macronutrients and micronutrients, nutrition through the life cycle, nutritional assessment and food composition.
  • Dietetics: diet therapy, clinical nutrition for conditions such as diabetes and kidney disease, and food service management.
  • Community nutrition: malnutrition, nutrition surveys, public health programmes and nutrition education.
  • Practical work: laboratory work and placements, which in Nigerian dietetics programmes usually include hospital and community postings.

MOUAU lists the degree as a B.Sc. The duration is not confirmed in MOUAU sources I reached; Nutrition and Dietetics degrees in Nigeria usually run five years.

Accreditation and professional registration

I could not confirm the programme’s NUC accreditation status or grade. If you want to practise as a clinical dietitian, ask the department which professional registration and internship its graduates go through. I could not confirm this for MOUAU.

Careers

  • Dietetics departments in hospitals, after the required professional steps
  • Public health and nutrition programmes run by government and NGOs
  • Food companies, in product development, labelling and quality roles
  • Nutrition counselling, wellness and school feeding programmes
  • Postgraduate study and research in nutrition

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus for 2027.

Mistakes that cost Nutrition and Dietetics applicants a MOUAU place

  • Treating 150 as a safe score: it only lets you register for screening.
  • Registering the wrong third subject: check MOUAU’s entry for Biology or Agricultural Science.
  • Only a pass in Physics: this course’s rule lists a Physics credit.
  • Choosing MOUAU second: the notice asked for MOUAU as first choice.
  • O’level not on CAPS: the notice requires the upload.
  • Ignoring a CAPS transfer offer: if MOUAU offers a related course, decide quickly; JAMB gives four weeks.

If you need to move MOUAU up to first choice, see JAMB change of institution. If you are writing again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

MOUAU cut off mark for Human Nutrition and Dietetics: frequently asked questions

Is 180 enough for Nutrition and Dietetics in MOUAU? 180 clears MOUAU’s 150 minimum, so you can register for screening. It is a borderline score for this course, and I would want very good one-sitting O’level grades to go with it.

Is Physics compulsory for Nutrition and Dietetics in MOUAU? In the UTME you can take Mathematics instead of Physics. At O’level the brochure rule lists a credit in Physics alongside English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology or Agricultural Science.

Does MOUAU write Post-UTME for Nutrition and Dietetics? The 2026/2027 notice described online registration with O’level grades and sittings weighted, and did not mention a written test. Check the portal each year in case that changes.

Which is easier at MOUAU, Food Science or Nutrition and Dietetics? MOUAU publishes no separate cut-off for either, and both share the 150 minimum. In my experience Nutrition and Dietetics usually attracts more health-minded applicants, so I set a slightly higher safe target for it.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal addresses, the awaiting result instruction and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The department name and college come from MOUAU’s Academic Department by Faculty page (updated 19 June 2026). The subject combinations, MOUAU’s “As in Food Science and Technology” and “As in Home Economics” remarks and the Direct Entry rules come from JAMB’s brochure as reprinted by Myschool on its Human Nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science and Technology and Home Economics pages. MOUAU has not published a departmental cut-off, an aggregate formula, a screening test date, acceptance fees or school fees in any source I reached. The safe target scores are my advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when MOUAU releases its 2027/2028 screening notice.
