GOUNI Industrial Design Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Industrial Design is 150 and the form is free. See the Fine Art O’level rule, UTME subjects, Direct Entry, fees and what GOUNI has not yet published about the course.

The GOUNI Industrial Design cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu sets 150 for all programmes except Medicine, Law and Nursing in 2026/2027, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. There is no higher published figure for Industrial Design, and the application form is free.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Confirm before you pay

Industrial Design is on GOUNI’s 2026/2027 programme list, on JAMB’s course list for GOUNI and in GOUNI’s 2025/2026 fee schedule. GOUNI has not published a course page, a curriculum, the degree title or the length of the programme. Ask the admissions office in writing what the degree is called and how long it runs before you pay tuition. If you want a design course with fuller published details, look at GOUNI Architecture or UNN Fine and Applied Arts.

The subject rules matter more than the score here. JAMB’s general line for Industrial Design asks for a credit in Fine Art as well as Chemistry and Mathematics, which catches science students who dropped Fine Art in SS1. Below I cover the UTME and O’level rules, the portfolio question, Direct Entry, how GOUNI decides, the 2025/2026 fees and what I could and could not confirm about the course itself.

I could not find a separate Industrial Design score from GOUNI for any session. The form page names higher figures only for Medicine and Surgery (200), Law (200) and Nursing (180). Everything else, including Industrial Design, sits at 150.

What score should you aim for? (my advice)

Industrial Design is a small course in most Nigerian universities, and GOUNI decides forms one by one. These bands are my own reading, not a GOUNI rule:

Your UTME scoreMy read for GOUNI Industrial Design
Below 150Not eligible through UTME this year. An ND in Industrial Design or Fine Art, then Direct Entry, is the other way in.
150 to 159Eligible. The Fine Art credit is what decides it.
160 to 179Comfortable at GOUNI, and also clears UNN’s 160 screening floor for Fine and Applied Arts.
180 and aboveComfortable. Compare Architecture at GOUNI if you like design but want a more widely published programme.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Industrial Design at GOUNI

JAMB’s brochure entry for Industrial Design carries remarks for ABU, BASU, FUTA and MAUTECH only. GOUNI has no remark, so the general lines apply.

RequirementIndustrial Design at GOUNI

Which UTME subjects to write

If you have Fine Art, write English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Fine Art. It matches the course, and the brochure already wants a Fine Art credit at O’level. If you have no Fine Art, English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics is allowed in the UTME, but you still need the Fine Art credit at O’level. Writing Physics does not remove that.

The Fine Art credit, and what if you do not have it

  • Who it affects: science students who took Physics, Chemistry and Biology and never sat Fine Art in WAEC or NECO.
  • The fix: register Fine Art (or Visual Art) at the next NECO or WAEC GCE. Two sittings are normally the limit, so plan it with your other results.
  • Technical Drawing: some universities accept it in place of Fine Art in their remarks, but GOUNI has no such remark. Ask GOUNI by e-mail before you rely on it.
  • Awaiting result: you can sit the UTME and fill the form while waiting, but nothing moves on CAPS until the result is uploaded.

Do you need a portfolio or drawing test?

Not according to anything GOUNI has published. The admission form page describes no portfolio, drawing test or interview for Industrial Design or Architecture, and JAMB’s brochure has no portfolio requirement for this course. Keep a few of your best drawings or design pieces anyway, in case the department asks for them after admission; that is my suggestion, not a GOUNI rule.

Direct Entry

ND holders in Industrial Design, Glass Technology or Fine Art at credit level, and A-level candidates with two of Fine Arts, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, can apply on JAMB’s Direct Entry form. GOUNI’s form page says only that DE applicants should use the current JAMB Direct Entry form. It does not say which level they join. GOUNI’s JUPEB list has no Industrial Design combination, so JUPEB is not a published route into this course.

How GOUNI screens Industrial Design applicants

The official form page describes no Post-UTME test for undergraduate courses. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. The page mentions no written test, interview or aggregate score for Industrial Design.

Worked example (illustrative)

GOUNI publishes no aggregate formula, so this example only checks score and subjects.

Somto scored 163 in English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Fine Art. Her WAEC from one sitting has B2 in Fine Art, C5 in Mathematics, C6 in English, C6 in Chemistry and B3 in Biology.

  1. Score: 163 is 13 above GOUNI’s 150.
  2. UTME subjects: Chemistry, Mathematics and Fine Art fit JAMB’s line.
  3. O’level: English, Fine Art, Mathematics and Chemistry are credits, and Biology makes five.
  4. Next step: e-mail GOUNI to confirm the degree title and duration, fill the free form, accept on CAPS.

Chidi scored 201 in English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics and has strong science credits, but no Fine Art at all. His score is far higher than Somto’s, yet he does not meet JAMB’s O’level line. His options are to add Fine Art at the next NECO or GCE, ask GOUNI whether Technical Drawing can stand in, or switch to a course his subjects already fit, such as GOUNI Industrial Physics.

Admission odds and advice

  • Fine Art decides most cases: at 150 and above, the missing Fine Art credit is the commonest reason a candidate cannot be admitted.
  • Get the course facts in writing: ask GOUNI the degree title, duration, workshop or studio arrangements and accreditation status before paying.
  • Fix your institution early: GOUNI can only propose candidates who have it on their JAMB profile.
  • Reply fast: GOUNI answers in about three working days.
  • Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. A 2027 candidate should expect a similar date for 2027/2028, but JAMB announces it each year.

Who this course suits

I would suggest it to a candidate who draws well, enjoys making things with their hands and is also comfortable with Chemistry and Mathematics. If you love art but dislike science, a Fine and Applied Arts degree is the better match. If you love design but want buildings rather than products, look at Architecture.

How to apply for Industrial Design at GOUNI, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and the course “Industrial Design”, and write English, Chemistry, Mathematics and Fine Art (or Physics).
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre once your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
  4. Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI before admission lists are drawn up.
  5. Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, pick Industrial Design from the Faculty of Natural Science and Environmental Studies list and submit. The form is free for this course.
  6. Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
  8. Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only (GOUNI warns that payments into personal accounts are at the payer’s risk), then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.

How much is Industrial Design at GOUNI? (last published fees)

The newest GOUNI fee schedule I could find is for the 2025/2026 session. Industrial Design is billed at the same rate as Architecture, higher than the other science courses.

LevelIndustrial Design tuition (2025/2026)
100 level₦870,000
200 level₦870,000
300 level₦820,000
400 level₦830,000
Item (2025/2026)AmountNote
Tuition₦870,000100 level figure under the heading “Tuition and accommodation fees”
Acceptance fee₦30,000100 level only
Matriculation fee₦20,000100 level only
Online course registration and ICT₦60,000Every level
Library fee₦20,000Every level
Parents’ Forum fee₦10,000Every level
Medical and drug test₦10,000100 to 300 level (₦20,000 at 400 level)
Faculty and departmental fees₦5,000 and ₦3,000Every level
All “other fees” at 100 level₦201,500The schedule’s own total for 100 level
IT/SIWES fee₦7,000300 level, NASES and FACIT students

Tuition plus the ₦201,500 of other fees comes to roughly ₦1,071,500 for a first-year student on the 2025/2026 schedule, before hostel, materials and upkeep. Design students usually spend extra on drawing materials and project work, which the schedule does not list. The schedule shows four years of fees, which suggests a four-year programme, but GOUNI has not stated the duration. Tuition is a sessional fee: 60% in the first semester and the other 40% within three months of resumption. All other fees must be paid in full before course registration. The schedule shows no separate hostel row even though the tuition heading mentions accommodation, so ask the bursary what the tuition line covers before you budget.

CurriculumNot among the 39 curricula on GOUNI’s CCMAS page
Degree title and durationNot published
DepartmentNot published; the Architecture page does not mention it
NUC accreditationNot confirmed

Is GOUNI Industrial Design accredited?

  • GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, with no list of programme results or dates.
  • 2021 results: Industrial Design was not among the 13 GOUNI programmes Myschool reported with full NUC accreditation on 9 August 2021.
  • NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and a search of NUC’s report pages turned up nothing naming this GOUNI programme.

I am treating the NUC status of Industrial Design as not confirmed, and I found no report of a denied or suspended result. Because so little is published, this is the one GOUNI science course where I would insist on a written reply from the admissions office before paying.

What Industrial Design usually covers

GOUNI has not published its course list, so I cannot tell you its modules. In Nigerian universities the degree generally trains students to design and make products, often with options in textiles, ceramics or glass, and graphics. The craft subjects JAMB accepts at O’level (weaving, surface design, ceramics, graphic design) reflect those options. Expect studio work, drawing, materials science and Chemistry for dyes, glazes and glass. Treat this as a general picture until GOUNI confirms its own options.

Careers

Graduates of Industrial Design programmes generally work in product and packaging design, textile and fashion production, ceramics and glass, graphic design and branding, printing, and interior furnishing. Many run their own studios. These are general outcomes for the discipline; GOUNI has not published career data for its programme.

Mistakes that cost Industrial Design applicants a GOUNI place

  • No Fine Art credit at O’level.
  • Dropping Chemistry or Mathematics from the UTME to write two art subjects.
  • Paying before getting the course facts in writing.
  • Leaving GOUNI as second choice without a change of institution.
  • Missing the e-mail with the decision.
