GOUNI Software Engineering Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

The GOUNI Software Engineering cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the minimum Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, set for every programme outside Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Law in 2026/2027. Software Engineering is on GOUNI’s 2026/2027 list of available programmes, in its new Faculty of Computing and Information Technology (FACIT). But JAMB’s course list for GOUNI has no entry called Software Engineering.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

I compared GOUNI’s 2026/2027 programme list with JAMB’s 55-course list for GOUNI, as reprinted by Myschool and checked on 30 October 2026. The nearest JAMB names on that list are Computer Science, which sits in the same GOUNI faculty and uses the same UTME subjects as JAMB’s general Software Engineering line, and Mathematics with Computer Science, which is on JAMB’s list but not on GOUNI’s own 2026/2027 programme list. Neither is confirmed by GOUNI as the route into Software Engineering.

This page explains what the gap means and how to settle it, the subjects you need, how GOUNI’s online admission works, what is and is not published about the new faculty, and the safer options if you cannot get a clear answer.

Does GOUNI offer Software Engineering?

GOUNI lists it, and its own news shows the plan behind it. Here is what is on record:

• An earlier GOUNI news update (undated, written around the 2024/2025 session) said the Computer Science department had been upgraded to a faculty, with planned courses including Software Engineering, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity.
• A later GOUNI post titled “GOUNI’s Faculty of Computing kicks off 2025!” said the faculty would start fully in the 2025/2026 session, with Software Engineering, Data Science and Cyber Security as its founding departments, a Dean and Sub-Dean appointed, and a rule that every student must own a laptop.
• GOUNI’s 2026/2027 admission page lists Software Engineering under FACIT, beside Computer Science, Cybersecurity and Data Science.
• GOUNI’s A to Z course list shows Software Engineering under FACIT without a course page.

Several things are still missing. There is no JAMB entry for GOUNI, no JUPEB combination, no curriculum handbook among the 39 GOUNI publishes, no fee row in the 2025/2026 schedule, and no public NUC approval notice that I could find. NUC approvals for new programmes are often reported publicly, as ESUT’s computing degrees were in July 2026. A missing notice does not prove there is no approval, but it is a reason to ask GOUNI for its NUC approval letter before you pay.

How to settle the JAMB course question

1. Look at JAMB’s GOUNI list yourself: at your CBT centre or on JAMB’s e-facility, select Godfrey Okoye University and scroll the courses. If Software Engineering now appears, register it.
2. If it is missing, write to GOUNI: e-mail admissions@gouni.edu.ng, say you want B.Sc. Software Engineering, and ask which JAMB course you should register to be admitted into it. Ask too for the programme’s NUC approval status.
3. Keep the reply: save and print it. You may need it if the course on CAPS differs from the course on your GOUNI admission letter.
4. Register only what GOUNI names: do not choose Computer Science or Mathematics with Computer Science on a guess. If you would be happy with GOUNI Computer Science anyway, that is a decision to make for its own sake, knowing you may stay in Computer Science.

Is 150 enough for Software Engineering at GOUNI?

GOUNI’s 2026/2027 minimum JAMB scores are Medicine and Surgery 200, Nursing 180, Law 200, Architecture 150, Computer Science 150, Education 150 and other programmes 150. Software Engineering is not named, so it falls under other programmes at 150. GOUNI has not published a departmental cut-off.

Because the JAMB route is unsettled, I would aim for 200 or more in the 2027 UTME. That keeps ESUT Software Engineering open as a listed alternative if GOUNI’s answer comes late or is unclear. GOUNI is private, so there is no catchment or state quota.

With no GOUNI entry, there is no GOUNI remark on JAMB’s Software Engineering page. JAMB’s general line and GOUNI’s Computer Science rules are the best guides, and they line up closely.

Prepare for this now: Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in the UTME, and credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one more science within two sittings. That set fits JAMB’s Software Engineering line, its Computer Science line and GOUNI’s Computer Science handbook, so it works whatever answer GOUNI gives. GOUNI’s general page also requires English and Mathematics credits from everyone.

How GOUNI admission works

GOUNI’s 2026/2027 page describes an online application with a decision by e-mail within three working days, and no written Post-UTME test for undergraduates.

Worked example

Chukwuebuka scored 186 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology from one sitting. He wants Software Engineering at GOUNI and has not yet registered his course with JAMB.

1. Score check: 186 minus 150 = 36. He clears GOUNI’s minimum easily.
2. Subject check: his subjects fit JAMB’s Software Engineering and Computer Science lines.
3. The JAMB question: he e-mails GOUNI admissions before registering, asks which JAMB course leads to Software Engineering and whether the programme has NUC approval, and saves the reply.
4. Backup: with 186 he also clears UNN’s 160 for Computer Science, so he keeps that in view until GOUNI answers.

Adaeze scored 154 and already registered GOUNI Computer Science. She wants Software Engineering. She should e-mail GOUNI now with her JAMB registration number and ask whether her registration can lead to Software Engineering. If GOUNI says no, she still has a sound course in GOUNI Computer Science, and Renaissance University Software Engineering also takes 150. If GOUNI names a different JAMB course, she can use the change of course window.

How to apply to GOUNI for Software Engineering

1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
2. Settle the course name first: check JAMB’s GOUNI list and register only the course GOUNI names in writing.
3. Fix your choice if needed: GOUNI says candidates who did not choose it first must do a JAMB change of institution. Our change of institution guide explains how.
4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre and confirm every grade on your e-Facility profile.
5. Fill GOUNI’s online form: open the Fill Admission Form page, choose Software Engineering, and use an e-mail address you check daily.
6. Form fee: free. GOUNI charges ₦5,000 only for Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Law.
7. Check the course on CAPS: when the offer arrives, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng and read the course name before accepting. If it is not what GOUNI told you, e-mail admissions first. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
8. Pay fees the right way: only through GOUNI’s official online platform. GOUNI says money paid into a personal account is at the payer’s own risk, and no agent can sell you a place.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated that date in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB has not announced the 2027/2028 dates yet; they normally come after the UTME, so 2027 candidates should watch for them then.

GOUNI Software Engineering fees

GOUNI’s 2025/2026 fee schedule has no Software Engineering row. The closest published figure is Computer Science, listed under the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology at ₦1,220,000 for 100 level, ₦1,120,000 for 200 and 300 level, and ₦1,200,000 for 400 level. Other 100 level charges on the same schedule come to ₦201,500 (including the ₦30,000 acceptance fee and ₦60,000 ICT fee), and Computer Science students also pay an ₦80,000 GOTECHPRENEURSHIP fee. Ask the Bursary for the Software Engineering figure in writing, and budget for a laptop, which the faculty requires.

What a Software Engineering degree covers

GOUNI has not published a Software Engineering curriculum, award title or duration. A B.Sc. Software Engineering in Nigeria usually runs four years for UTME entrants and covers:

• Programming and foundations: structured and object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, discrete mathematics.
• Building software: requirements engineering, software design and architecture, testing and quality assurance, software project management.
• Platforms: web and mobile development, databases, operating systems, networks and cloud.
• Practice: team projects, industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year project.

For a feel of GOUNI’s teaching, its Computer Science handbook (2023 to 2028) already includes Introduction to Software Engineering at 200 level, Systems Analysis and Design at 300 level, and Software Architecture and Design plus Content Management Development at 400 level. If the JAMB route to Software Engineering stays unclear, Computer Science at GOUNI gives you a good part of the same ground.

A word on professional bodies, because agents like to wave them about. In May 2025 NUC told universities that professional bodies may not accredit university programmes on their own; only seven councils (MDCN, CLE, NMCN, PCN, VCN, COREN and ARCON) were given waivers, according to The Sun’s report of 22 May 2025. No professional council has a waiver for computing programmes; CPN registers computing professionals after graduation. For admission, the status that matters is NUC’s.

Careers

Software engineering graduates work as backend, frontend and mobile developers, quality assurance engineers, DevOps and cloud engineers, and product or project leads. Many Nigerian graduates work remotely for foreign firms. Your portfolio and internships will matter as much as your degree class, so start building projects from 100 level.
