SUMAS Cut-Off Mark for Radiography and Radiation Science 2027/2028: Admission Requirements and Screening

The SUMAS cut off mark for Radiography and Radiation Science in 2027/2028 is 150. See the subjects, O’Level rules, NUC and RRBN accreditation, a worked screening example and the score to aim for.

The SUMAS cut off mark for Radiography and Radiation Science in 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. That is the general minimum the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, set for every programme in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME notice, and it was also 150 in 2025/2026. With 150 or more, SUMAS as your first choice and five relevant O’Level credits, you could apply for screening.

2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

SUMAS has never published a separate departmental cut off mark for Radiography, for any year. There is no official merit list with scores, no published aggregate formula and no catchment list. So when a website tells you “SUMAS Radiography cut off is 2xx”, ask where it came from, because it did not come from the university. This guide sets out what is official, what the course asks for, how screening appears to work, the score I would aim for, and the steps from JAMB registration to paying your acceptance fee.

Two numbers get mixed up in most cut off articles. The general cut off (150) decides whether you can apply at all. A departmental cut off is the lowest score actually admitted into one course in one year, and the university only knows it after screening. SUMAS publishes the first and has never published the second.

SUMAS cut off mark for Radiography: what the history shows

Here is everything I could verify for Radiography at SUMAS over the last two sessions.

SessionMinimum UTME to applyDepartmental cut off for RadiographySource
2026/2027150Not publishedSUMAS Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice
2025/2026 (previous year)150Not publishedSUMAS notice as reproduced by Myschool, July 2025

The general minimum has held at 150 for two sessions, but it can move. A university sets it each year after JAMB’s policy meeting, so check the 2027/2028 notice before you register for the 2027 UTME. You may see 160 quoted for SUMAS on a few directory sites. That figure comes from a private listing that also wrongly calls SUMAS a federal university, and SUMAS has not used it.

SUMAS admission lists only show masked JAMB numbers under each course, with no scores beside them. That is why nobody can honestly tell you the lowest score admitted into Radiography last year.

Is SUMAS Radiography accredited?

Yes. This is one of the stronger points about the course at SUMAS. The National Universities Commission (NUC) visited between 28 October and 3 December 2025 and granted full accreditation to 15 SUMAS programmes, and Radiography and Radiation Science was one of them. In the same notice, SUMAS said the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) has accredited the programme.

That matters more for Radiography than for most courses. To practise as a radiographer in Nigeria you register with the RRBN, so a programme the board has accredited is the one you want. Of the Allied Health programmes at SUMAS, Radiography is the only one with a named professional council accreditation on record. For the others, SUMAS has not published council approval yet.

UTME subject combination and O’Level requirements

SUMAS does not publish its own subject list per course. It follows the JAMB brochure, and the brochure entry for Radiography and Radiation Science (as reproduced by Myschool) reads as follows. Confirm it on the JAMB e-brochure before you register.

RequirementRadiography and Radiation Science
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
O’Level (JAMB brochure)Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry
O’Level (SUMAS rule)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other relevant subjects
SittingsNot more than two (only Medicine and Surgery is restricted to one sitting)
Direct Entry (SUMAS rule)At least second class lower or its equivalent in OND, HND or a first degree, cleared on JAMB e-Facility
Direct Entry (JAMB brochure)Two A Level passes from Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Put the two O’Level rules together and the safe set is English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, all at credit level or better. SUMAS insists on a Physics credit for every programme it runs, so a candidate who dropped Physics in SS2 cannot apply here.

On Direct Entry, the SUMAS notice names OND, HND and first degree holders. It does not mention A Level, JUPEB or IJMB, so if that is your route, phone the admissions office (08067390088) before you buy a form.

If you are still preparing, our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus guides cover two of your three science papers topic by topic.

How SUMAS screening works for Radiography candidates

The 2026/2027 notice described a screening exercise. SUMAS did not publish a written Post-UTME test or a test date, and it has not said how it weighs your UTME score against your O’Level grades. Candidates who were admitted without doing the Post-UTME were later told to register on the SAMP portal, pay the screening fee and go to the ICT Unit for verification, which points to a records-based screening. Treat that as a reasonable reading, not a confirmed method.

To give you a feel for how a records-based screening can rank people, here is the 50/50 method many Nigerian universities use. SUMAS has not published its formula. This is for illustration only.

  1. UTME part: divide your UTME score by 8, so 400 becomes 50.
  2. O’Level part: give each of your five relevant grades points (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5). The maximum is 50.
  3. Add them: the total is out of 100.

Take Ada, who scored 236 in the UTME and has A1 in Mathematics, B2 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry, B3 in Biology and C4 in English Language.

PartWorkingPoints
UTME236 ÷ 829.5
O’Level10 + 9 + 8 + 8 + 742
Total29.5 + 4271.5 out of 100

Notice how much the O’Level half carries under a method like this. Raising Chemistry from C4 to B2 adds two points, which is the same as 16 extra marks in the UTME. If you are retaking WAEC or NECO before your next attempt, that is a cheaper place to gain ground than a fourth JAMB sitting.

How competitive is Radiography at SUMAS?

Fairly competitive. Radiography is a professional course with a clear licence at the end, and across Nigeria it usually draws far more applicants than it has places. At SUMAS, it was not on the October 2026 supplementary admission list, which reopened only the programmes that still had room. The courses with spaces were mostly engineering and science programmes, which suggests the Allied Health programmes, Radiography included, had filled.

SUMAS has not published its quota for Radiography, a catchment list, or an ELDS (educationally less developed states) list. SUMAS is owned by the Enugu State Government, and the 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% ELDS split you read about applies to federal universities, so do not assume it works here.

My advice (not an official figure): 150 only gets you through the door. For Radiography at SUMAS, I would aim for 220 or above in the UTME, together with credits no lower than B3 in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Candidates near 180 can still be screened, but with no published cut off you are taking a bigger chance, and I would keep a second plan ready.

How to get admission into SUMAS Radiography: step by step

These are the steps candidates most often get wrong, in the order they come up.

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN followed by a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with a profile code that you take to a CBT centre to register.
  2. Choose SUMAS first: at UTME registration, pick State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, as your first choice, with Radiography and Radiation Science as the course. If you picked another school, do a change of institution before screening. SUMAS only screens first-choice candidates.
  3. Upload your O’Level to CAPS: your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results must be on JAMB CAPS. In 2026, SUMAS set 15 August 2026 as its deadline for this. Do it at an accredited CBT centre or through the online option JAMB allows.
  4. Buy the SUMAS Post-UTME form: when the portal opens, apply at sumas.edu.ng/apply or samp.sumas.edu.ng, and pay the ₦2,000 screening fee with your JAMB registration number as the narration. Your JAMB number, date of birth, state of origin and course must match CAPS exactly, and only one application is allowed.
  5. Check your admission: watch the SUMAS batch lists and log in to JAMB e-Facility, then Check Admission Status and Access my CAPS. Confirm on the SAMP portal too.
  6. Accept on CAPS: click Accept, then print your JAMB admission letter. If SUMAS moved you to another course, the 2026/2027 notice gave you only three days to change it on JAMB.
  7. Pay the acceptance fee: log in at eportal.sumas.edu.ng as NEW STUDENT with your JAMB number and SAMP password, generate the ₦50,000 acceptance fee and pay on the SUMAS Revenue Portal. Never pay into a personal account.

The full Post-UTME details are in our SUMAS Post-UTME form 2026/2027 guide, and our SUMAS admission list guide walks through clearance after you accept. For the CAPS screens, see our JAMB CAPS guide.

Admission still running

SUMAS is releasing 2026/2027 admissions in batches. If an offer shows on your CAPS, accept it and pay the acceptance fee promptly, because SUMAS says admission can be withdrawn at any stage if requirements are not met.

What you study in Radiography and Radiation Science

Radiography trains you to produce medical images and to use radiation safely for diagnosis and treatment. Your first years are science and basic medical sciences: physics, chemistry, biology, then human anatomy and physiology. The later years move into radiographic technique, radiation physics and protection, imaging equipment, image processing, patient care and the clinical postings where you work in a hospital imaging department.

SUMAS has not published the length of its programme. Radiography degrees in Nigeria usually run for five years. You study at the Igbo-Eno campus in Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State, on the Nsukka axis. The SUMAS Teaching Hospital is being built up on the same site, and the Enugu State Government reported in January 2026 that its outpatient department, a 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital and a 120-bed Medical Centre were complete.

As for fees, the only SUMAS schedule online is the 2022/2023 one, which charged ₦301,400 for Pharmacy and Allied Health students. Expect the 2026/2027 figure to differ, and budget for the ₦50,000 acceptance fee on top.

Career paths after Radiography

After graduation and registration with the RRBN, most radiographers work in hospital imaging departments, in public or private hospitals and diagnostic centres. Within the field you can specialise in areas such as ultrasound, CT, MRI, mammography or radiotherapy, which treats cancer with radiation. Other paths include sales and support roles with imaging equipment companies, radiation safety work, teaching and postgraduate study.

If Radiography does not work out for you this year, related SUMAS programmes use the same UTME subjects:

Common mistakes Radiography applicants make

  • No Physics credit: SUMAS asks for Physics from everyone, and Radiography leans on it more than most courses.
  • SUMAS as second choice: SUMAS screens first-choice candidates only. Fix it with a change of institution before you pay for the form.
  • Mismatched details: a different date of birth or course on the SAMP portal from what JAMB has can stop your application.
  • O’Level not on CAPS: without it, SUMAS cannot move you forward, however good your score is.
  • Trusting a made-up cut off: planning around a departmental figure SUMAS never released leads candidates with 170 to expect Radiography and candidates with 240 to panic for nothing.

SUMAS Radiography cut off mark: frequently asked questions

Is 200 enough for Radiography in SUMAS? A 200 clears the 150 minimum, so you can be screened. SUMAS has never published a Radiography cut off, so no one can promise it is enough; with strong B grades in Physics, Chemistry and Biology your chances improve, but I would treat 220 and above as the safer zone.

Can I use awaiting result for SUMAS Post-UTME? The 2026/2027 notice required your O’Level results to be uploaded on JAMB CAPS by 15 August 2026, so you need the results before that point. If your WAEC or NECO result is still awaited when SUMAS sets its upload deadline, you will not be considered that year.

Does SUMAS accept two sittings for Radiography? Yes. SUMAS allows a maximum of two sittings for every programme except Medicine and Surgery, which needs one sitting.

Is Radiography at SUMAS accredited by RRBN? Yes. SUMAS reported in its late 2025 NUC accreditation notice that the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria has accredited the programme, and the NUC granted it full accreditation in the same exercise.
