School of Nursing Umuahia admission requirements for 2027/2028 begin with five O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at no more than two sittings. The school is the Abia State Government’s College of Nursing, Umuahia, and it has no published cut-off mark. What is not settled is the entry route: Abia’s 2026/2027 ND Nursing notice, which required the UTME and JAMB CAPS, named only the Amachara and Aba campuses, so Umuahia’s own intake process for the new session has not been published.
2027/2028 update: School of Nursing Umuahia admission requirements and entrance process usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the rules on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notices we could find (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Many candidates search for this school thinking it belongs to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia. It does not. The NMCN’s approved list has no FMC Umuahia nursing school in its Abia section; the Umuahia school it lists is the state’s College of Nursing, Umuahia. This guide covers its requirements, NMCN status, the old entrance process, what to do while the 2027/2028 route is unclear, and how to avoid paying fake agents.

Is School of Nursing Umuahia the FMC Umuahia school?
No. Searches for “School of Nursing Umuahia” turn up posts that mix the state school with Federal Medical Centre Umuahia. Here is what the NMCN’s December 2025 list shows for Abia:

There is no FMC Umuahia entry among the Abia schools. If someone offers you an “FMC Umuahia School of Nursing” form, ask for the official advert and check it against the NMCN list before paying. A forum post advertising a “School of Post Basic Midwifery Umuahia” for 2025/2026 also does not match the NMCN list, and I would not rely on it.
Does School of Nursing Umuahia require JAMB in 2027?
The answer depends on which way the state goes, and it has not said yet.
- In June 2026 the Abia State College of Nursing Sciences announced 2026/2027 ND Nursing admission at Amachara and Aba campuses. Candidates needed the 2026 UTME and applied through JAMB CAPS.
- Umuahia was not named as a campus in the part of the notice available to us.
- Wikipedia reports a state plan to merge the Amachara college with seven other state nursing schools into a single College of Nursing Sciences. If Umuahia is part of that, its intake could come under the same ND notice.
- Before 2026, Umuahia admitted through the state’s entrance exam, which did not use JAMB.
My advice: write the 2027 UTME with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If Umuahia stays on the old entrance exam, you lose nothing; if it joins the ND route or you decide to apply to Amachara or Aba, you are ready.

If Umuahia keeps its own written exam, the UTME score may not count at all, and your result in that exam will decide. Revise Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English either way.

How the Umuahia entrance exam worked before 2026
The Nursing Services Department of the Abia State Ministry of Health, Block B, 4th Floor, New Secretariat, Umuahia, handled forms for the state nursing schools. Reprints describe the process:
- Buy the form: one undated reprint gives ₦10,000 paid at UBA or First Bank for Umuahia and Amachara; the 2024 adverts used a Remita invoice on abianursingschools.edu.ng.
- Complete the form: on the portal, then print the slip.
- Submit the slip: a photocopy goes to the Nursing Services Department in Umuahia.
- Write the exam: in March at 8am, with centres in Umuahia and Aba (undated reprint).
- Interview: for shortlisted candidates, followed by the list.
Do not plan with the ₦10,000 figure. The post that carries it does not say which year it is from.
Post-Basic Nursing at Umuahia
In 2024 the state advertised an 18-month Post-Basic Nursing programme at Umuahia and Amachara for registered midwives. Form sales ran from 15 February to 8 March 2024, with interviews on 13 March 2024. That programme is not for school leavers.
Worked example (illustrative)
- Candidate: Ifeoma, 18, credits in all five subjects from WAEC, and 181 in the 2027 UTME.
- If Umuahia uses the ND route: 181 is 31 above the 2026 floor and inside my “fair chance” band.
- If Umuahia uses the old exam: her UTME does not count, and she must do well in the written test and interview.
- Backup: because she has a UTME result, she can also apply for ND Nursing at Amachara or Aba through CAPS.
How to apply to School of Nursing Umuahia, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register for the 2027 UTME: choose Nursing with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If an Abia college of nursing appears on JAMB’s list, choose it; otherwise you can do a JAMB change of institution later.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited CBT centre, have WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results added to your JAMB record. If you used two sittings, upload both. Check on CAPS that every subject and grade shows correctly.
- Watch for the official notice: watch the Abia State Ministry of Health for an Umuahia notice. If it names the state portal, pay through its Remita invoice; if it names CAPS, apply there.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer and print your JAMB admission letter later.
- Pay acceptance and clear: the school or the Abia State Ministry of Health will give the acceptance fee, medical test and document checklist. None of these fees has been published officially, so pay only through the channel named in the official letter or portal.
Warning
Posts saying an Abia nursing or midwifery “form is out, call 070…” are run by agents, not the schools. The 2026/2027 ND Nursing intake went through JAMB CAPS, and older entrance forms were paid through a Remita invoice on the state portal. Never pay a private phone number or a personal account for a form, a “slot” or an admission list.
About the College of Nursing, Umuahia
Umuahia is the Abia State capital and the seat of the Ministry of Health that runs the state’s nursing schools. The college trains both nurses and midwives. On the NMCN list, its full approval for nursing is dated September 2023 and for midwifery September 2018.

- Confusing it with FMC Umuahia: the NMCN list has no FMC Umuahia school.
- Paying for “2026/2027 Umuahia forms” from phone agents: no Umuahia notice has been published.
- Skipping the UTME: it keeps both routes open.
- Applying for Post-Basic Nursing as a school leaver: it is for registered midwives.
- Missing Physics: it is one of the five required credits.

School of Nursing Umuahia: frequently asked questions
Is School of Nursing Umuahia form out for 2027/2028? No Umuahia notice had been published by 29 October 2026. The 2026/2027 state ND Nursing notice named only Amachara and Aba campuses.
Is School of Nursing Umuahia owned by FMC Umuahia? No. The NMCN lists it as the College of Nursing, Umuahia, an Abia State Government school, and no FMC Umuahia nursing school appears in the Abia section.
Does School of Nursing Umuahia need JAMB? Its old entrance exam did not. Abia’s 2026/2027 ND Nursing intake did, so I would write the 2027 UTME to be safe.
Is College of Nursing Umuahia accredited by NMCN? Yes. The December 2025 list shows full approval for Nursing (September 2023) and Midwifery (September 2018).
