UNIUYO Animal Science Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Requirements

UNIUYO admits Animal Science candidates from a 150 UTME minimum, first choice only, with no departmental figure published. Here is my safe target score, the JAMB subjects, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The UNIUYO cut off mark for Animal Science is 150 in the UTME, and that is the figure 2027 candidates should plan with. The University of Uyo set 150 as the minimum for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and only for candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice. Animal Science is one of eight departments in UNIUYO’s Faculty of Agriculture, and UNIUYO did not publish a separate figure for it.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

UNIUYO does not publish a departmental cut-off for Animal Science or for any other course. The 150 is a gate into screening, and the department then fills its places on merit, so the score of the last person admitted sits above 150 and changes every year. My safe target score for Animal Science at UNIUYO is 200 or more; that is my own advice, explained below, and it is not a UNIUYO figure.

The 150 floor and the first-choice rule have held for the last two sessions. Animal Science usually fills below the levels you see for health and management courses, but merit still decides who gets in first.

Safe target score for Animal Science at UNIUYO (my advice)

This table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. UNIUYO has never published these bands, so treat them as planning numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Animal Science at UNIUYO
Below 150Not eligible for UNIUYO screening in any course
150 to 164Eligible to apply, but an Animal Science place is unlikely; you may be offered a related course instead
165 to 179A fair chance, helped by good O’level grades
180 to 199Good chance
200 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

Animal Science is not among UNIUYO’s most crowded courses, so a score in the high 170s to 190s with good sciences is often enough on merit. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 180, ideally 200, and pair it with clean O’level credits in the subjects listed below.

Merit, catchment and the federal quota

UNIUYO is a federal university, so it admits under the federal guidelines that JAMB applies: 45% of places on merit, 35% for catchment states and 20% for educationally less developed states. UNIUYO has not published which states it treats as its catchment in any source I reached. In practice, a candidate who misses the merit list can still be picked on catchment or ELDS, which is one reason two people with the same score can get different results.

UTME subject combination and O’level requirements for Animal Science at UNIUYO

RequirementAnimal Science at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture, plus Mathematics or Physics
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, and one of Physics, Geography or Economics
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (GCE also accepted by most universities); confirm on the portal
SittingsJAMB’s brochure gives no UNIUYO sitting rule for this course; UNIUYO’s Basic Studies advert allows two sittings for that route. One sitting is safer
Direct EntryTwo A level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Geology, Mathematics or Economics. JAMB’s page has no UNIUYO-specific DE remark
Other requirementNo course test or interview is mentioned in the 2026/2027 notice

JAMB’s brochure page for Animal Science has remarks for UNIOSUN, UNICAL, RSU, UNIBEN, UNN and several others, and none for UNIUYO. That means the general lines above are what UNIUYO goes by, as far as the brochure shows. Biology and Agricultural Science are interchangeable in the UTME, so pick the one you are stronger in.

Basic Studies: another way into Animal Science

UNIUYO also runs a one-year Basic Studies programme that feeds all its faculties. The 2026/2027 advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs Blossom E. Okorie, asks for five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects at not more than two sittings, says no JAMB score is required, and lets successful students move into 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course criteria. The form cost ₦15,500, and admission is usually through a CBT screening test. For agriculture courses the advert also lists a one-year Pre-Degree route (science, agriculture and education only), but its score rules contradict each other, so ask the admissions office before you rely on it.

How UNIUYO Post-UTME screening works

The 2026/2027 notice was titled “Sale of Admissions form for 2026/2027 Post-UTME/Direct Entry Screening Exercise”. It opened screening to UTME candidates with 150 or more who picked UNIUYO first, and to Direct Entry candidates who picked UNIUYO first in JAMB DE.

UNIUYO’s notice calls the process a “screening exercise” and says nothing about a written or CBT test for regular candidates, so I can’t tell you there is a test or that there isn’t. Prepare as if there will be one, using the JAMB syllabus for your four subjects.

Worked example for an Animal Science candidate

UNIUYO has not published how it ranks candidates, so the useful calculation is the gap between your score, the 150 minimum and the safe target.

Take Mkpouto Essien, who scored 186 with B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, B3 in Chemistry, B2 in Biology and C4 in Physics from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 186 minus 150 = 36. Mkpouto clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 36 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 200 minus 186 = 14. Mkpouto is 14 marks short of the score I would call strong, but inside my good-chance band.
  3. O’level check: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics at credit level, one sitting, on CAPS. Nothing rules her out.
  4. What I would advise: keep Animal Science as first course; at 186 she is within reach of a merit place.

Uduak Bassey scored 158 with C6 in Chemistry and a pass in Physics. 158 minus 150 = 8, so Uduak can apply. The pass in Physics is fine only if he has a credit in Geography or Economics instead. At 158 he should expect to compete hard and watch CAPS for an alternative offer.

Some Nigerian universities rank candidates with a 50:50 aggregate: UTME score divided by 8 (out of 50) plus the screening score scaled to 50. UNIUYO has not published this or any formula, so this is only an illustration. On that method, Mkpouto’s 186 becomes 23.25, and a 64% screening score adds 32, for an aggregate of 55.25 out of 100.

How to apply for Animal Science at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with UNIUYO first: pick Animal Science (listed by JAMB as “Animal Science”) with English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Mathematics or Physics. If UNIUYO ended up as your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before UNIUYO opens its form.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited CBT centre and check that every subject and grade shows correctly on your JAMB profile.
  4. Create an account on the UNIUYO portal: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, register with your details and verify the account.
  5. Pay ₦2,000 with Remita: generate the RRR on the portal and pay it; keep the receipt.
  6. Complete the form and upload documents: fill every section, upload the requested documents as PDF files, then print the 2026/2027 Screening Exercise Slip.
  7. Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept within the window JAMB gives you.
  8. Pay acceptance and do clearance: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay anything.

Warning

UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 notice screened only candidates who chose UNIUYO first. If UNIUYO is your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the screening form opens.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. Supplementary or late lists can still show up on CAPS, so if you applied, keep checking your status. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means.

In 2023/2024 UNIUYO ran a supplementary admission for candidates who had registered for its screening but missed their first-choice course. The Registrar’s notice took candidates with 140 and above into limited vacancies in nine faculties: Agriculture, Arts, Management Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Science, Social Sciences, Education, and Vocational Education, Library and Information Science. Agriculture was one of those faculties, so a candidate who missed a more competitive course could apply for a programme listed there, possibly including Animal Science. UNIUYO does not run a supplementary exercise on a fixed schedule, and its 2026/2027 floor is 150, so treat the old 140 as history.

Studying Animal Science at UNIUYO

Animal Science is in UNIUYO’s Faculty of Agriculture. Agriculture degrees in Nigeria usually take five years, including a farm practice year; UNIUYO has not confirmed the length in the sources I reached.

Accreditation

NUC published a report on UNIUYO’s Agriculture programme after a visit from 20 to 24 November 2024: Full accreditation, 81.4%. The report names the programme as Agriculture and does not list departments, so I can’t confirm whether it covers Animal Science by name. I found no separate NUC report for Animal Science at UNIUYO; ask the department for its current accreditation letter before you pay acceptance.

What you study

  • Foundation: biology, chemistry, introductory agriculture and statistics.
  • Animal production: poultry, pigs, ruminants, rabbits and fish production systems.
  • Science of livestock: animal nutrition and feed formulation, breeding and genetics, physiology and animal health.
  • Practical work: farm practice on livestock units and a final-year project.

Careers after Animal Science

  • Livestock farm manager or owner (poultry, piggery, fishery)
  • Feed mill quality control and formulation
  • Sales and technical roles with veterinary drug and feed companies
  • Extension work, research institutes and postgraduate study

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus. If you want a second federal option in the South-South, see our UNICAL cut-off mark guide.

Mistakes that cost Animal Science applicants a UNIUYO place

  • Treating 150 as the admission score: it only lets you into screening.
  • Leaving UNIUYO as second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened first-choice candidates.
  • Mixing up Animal Science with Animal Science and Environmental Biology: the second is a zoology-type course in the Faculty of Biological Sciences.
  • No Chemistry in the UTME: it is fixed in the subject line.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: admission cannot be processed without it.
  • Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: the acceptance fee and clearance at UNIUYO are separate steps.

If you are writing the UTME again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to do a JAMB change of institution.

UNIUYO cut off mark for Animal Science: frequently asked questions

Is 170 a good score for Animal Science at UNIUYO? 170 is above the 150 minimum and gives you a fair chance in a less crowded course, especially with strong O’level grades. I would still aim for 200.

Can I offer Agricultural Science instead of Biology for Animal Science at UNIUYO? Yes. JAMB lists Biology or Agriculture in the UTME line, and Biology or Agricultural Science at O’level.

Is Animal Science the same as Animal Science and Environmental Biology at UNIUYO? No. Animal Science is a livestock production course in the Faculty of Agriculture; Animal Science and Environmental Biology is a zoology course in the Faculty of Biological Sciences.

Does UNIUYO accept second choice candidates? The 2026/2027 notice invited only candidates who chose UNIUYO first. If it was your second choice, do a change of institution before screening opens.
