The UNIUYO cut off mark for Music is 150 in the UTME, and that is the figure 2027 candidates should plan with. The University of Uyo set 150 as the minimum for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and only for candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice. Music is in UNIUYO’s Faculty of Arts, and UNIUYO did not publish a separate figure for it.
2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
UNIUYO does not publish a departmental cut-off for Music or for any other course. The 150 is a gate into screening, and the department then fills its places on merit, so the score of the last person admitted sits above 150 and changes every year. My safe target score for Music at UNIUYO is 195 or more; that is my own advice, explained below, and it is not a UNIUYO figure.
UNIUYO cut off mark for Music at a glance

| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| UNIUYO departmental cut-off for Music | Not published | No official figure exists |
| Safe target score (my advice) | 195 and above | Consultant advice, not a UNIUYO rule |

UNIUYO Music cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score to apply for Post-UTME or DE screening, UNIUYO first choice | Official UNIUYO notice |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Same rule, first choice only | Reported by an abstechconnect reprint (15 August 2025); original not seen |
| 2023/2024 supplementary | 140 and above | Supplementary admission for candidates who sat UNIUYO screening and missed their first course | Official notice signed by the Registrar |
| Any year | Various | Departmental “cut-off marks” printed on blogs | Unofficial; no UNIUYO document behind them |
The floor has stayed at 150 with the first-choice rule, and the Faculty of Arts was part of the 2023/2024 supplementary exercise. For Music, the audition is the real filter.
Safe target score for Music at UNIUYO (my advice)
This table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. UNIUYO has never published these bands, so treat them as planning numbers.
| Your UTME score | My read for Music at UNIUYO |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for UNIUYO screening in any course |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible to apply, but a Music place is unlikely; you may be offered a related course instead |
| 160 to 174 | A fair chance, helped by good O’level grades |
| 175 to 194 | Good chance |
| 195 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
Music has a small, self-selecting applicant pool because of the audition and the UTME Music paper. A modest score with a strong audition can be enough. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 175, ideally 195, and pair it with clean O’level credits in the subjects listed below.
Merit, catchment and the federal quota
UNIUYO is a federal university, so it admits under the federal guidelines that JAMB applies: 45% of places on merit, 35% for catchment states and 20% for educationally less developed states. UNIUYO has not published which states it treats as its catchment in any source I reached. In practice, a candidate who misses the merit list can still be picked on catchment or ELDS, which is one reason two people with the same score can get different results.
UTME subject combination and O’level requirements for Music at UNIUYO
| Requirement | Music at UNIUYO |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Music, one other Arts subject and any other subject |
| O’level | General line: five credits including Music and English Language. UNIUYO remarks: does not insist on an O’level credit in Music; a Grade V certificate from ABRSM or MUSON is an added advantage |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (GCE also accepted by most universities); confirm on the portal |
| Sittings | JAMB’s brochure gives no UNIUYO sitting rule; one sitting is safer |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes including Music. UNIUYO remark: accepts ND |
| Other requirement | Audition. JAMB’s brochure says UNN and UNIUYO require candidates to pass an audition held on the last Thursday and Friday of August each year; confirm the current date with the department |
Music is the one course in this faculty where your instrument or voice matters as much as your score. JAMB’s brochure has three UNIUYO remarks: you must pass an audition (listed as the last Thursday and Friday of August each year, a date that may be out of date); UNIUYO does not insist on an O’level Music credit, which helps candidates from schools without music teachers; and an ABRSM or MUSON Grade V certificate counts in your favour. Music is still compulsory in the UTME line. JAMB’s general line for this course does not name Mathematics. UNIUYO’s Basic Studies route asks for English and Mathematics, and many Nigerian arts departments look for a Maths credit at clearance, so having one is the safe position.
Basic Studies: another way into Music
UNIUYO also runs a one-year Basic Studies programme that feeds all its faculties. The 2026/2027 advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs Blossom E. Okorie, asks for five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects at not more than two sittings, says no JAMB score is required, and lets successful students move into 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course criteria. The form cost ₦15,500, and admission is usually through a CBT screening test. Arts candidates can use it too: the advert lists the Faculty of Arts among those Basic Studies feeds.
How UNIUYO Post-UTME screening works
The 2026/2027 notice was titled “Sale of Admissions form for 2026/2027 Post-UTME/Direct Entry Screening Exercise”. It opened screening to UTME candidates with 150 or more who picked UNIUYO first, and to Direct Entry candidates who picked UNIUYO first in JAMB DE.
| Detail | UNIUYO 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | UNIUYO first choice, UTME 150 or above; DE candidates with UNIUYO first |
| Second choice candidates | Not mentioned in the notice; do a change of institution to be safe |
| Fee | ₦2,000, non-refundable, paid with a Remita RRR |
| Portal | admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng |
| Documents | Uploaded as PDF on the form |
| Output | Printed 2026/2027 Screening Exercise Slip |
| Closing date | Friday 7 August 2026 according to a blog reprint; the official page showed no date |
| Test format | Not published for regular Post-UTME |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
UNIUYO’s notice calls the process a “screening exercise” and says nothing about a written or CBT test for regular candidates, so I can’t tell you there is a test or that there isn’t. Prepare as if there will be one, using the JAMB syllabus for your four subjects.
Worked example for a Music candidate
UNIUYO has not published how it ranks candidates, so the useful calculation is the gap between your score, the 150 minimum and the safe target.
Take Emediong Udo, who scored 182 with B3 in English, C4 in Literature, C5 in Government and C6 in Mathematics, no O’level Music, but an ABRSM Grade V certificate.
- Eligibility: 182 minus 150 = 32. Emediong clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 32 marks.
- Against my safe target: 195 minus 182 = 13. Emediong is 13 marks short of the score I would call strong, but inside my good-chance band.
- O’level check: no O’level Music, which UNIUYO does not insist on, and an ABRSM Grade V certificate that the brochure calls an added advantage.
- What I would advise: at 182 with Grade V she is well placed. Her priority is the audition; prepare two contrasting pieces and sight-reading.
Itohowo Essien scored 154 with credits in English and CRS but no music training. 154 minus 150 = 4, so Itohowo can apply. He meets the floor, but with no music training the audition is likely to stop him. He should start lessons now if he wants Music in 2027.
Some Nigerian universities rank candidates with a 50:50 aggregate: UTME score divided by 8 (out of 50) plus the screening score scaled to 50. UNIUYO has not published this or any formula, so this is only an illustration. On that method, Emediong’s 182 becomes 22.75, and a 64% screening score adds 32, for an aggregate of 54.75 out of 100.
How to apply for Music at UNIUYO, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with UNIUYO first: pick Music (listed by JAMB as “Music”) with English, Music, one other Arts subject and any other subject. If UNIUYO ended up as your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before UNIUYO opens its form.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited CBT centre and check that every subject and grade shows correctly on your JAMB profile.
- Create an account on the UNIUYO portal: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, register with your details and verify the account.
- Pay ₦2,000 with Remita: generate the RRR on the portal and pay it; keep the receipt.
- Complete the form and upload documents: fill every section, upload the requested documents as PDF files, then print the 2026/2027 Screening Exercise Slip.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept within the window JAMB gives you.
- Pay acceptance and do clearance: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay anything.
Warning
JAMB’s brochure says UNIUYO admits Music candidates only after an audition. A good UTME score will not carry you if you fail it, so prepare your pieces early and ask the department for the current audition date.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. Supplementary or late lists can still show up on CAPS, so if you applied, keep checking your status. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means.
In 2023/2024 UNIUYO ran a supplementary admission for candidates who had registered for its screening but missed their first-choice course. The Registrar’s notice took candidates with 140 and above into limited vacancies in nine faculties: Agriculture, Arts, Management Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Science, Social Sciences, Education, and Vocational Education, Library and Information Science. Arts was one of those faculties, so a candidate who missed a more competitive course could apply for a programme listed there, possibly including Music. UNIUYO does not run a supplementary exercise on a fixed schedule, and its 2026/2027 floor is 150, so treat the old 140 as history.
Studying Music at UNIUYO
Music is in UNIUYO’s Faculty of Arts. A B.A. in Nigeria normally runs for four years; UNIUYO has not confirmed the degree title or length in sources I reached.
Accreditation
I could not find an NUC accreditation report that names Music at UNIUYO, so its current status is not confirmed here. UNIUYO lists the course in its 2026/2027 advert and JAMB carries it on UNIUYO’s course list, which shows it is admitting. Ask the department for its latest NUC result before you pay acceptance.

Mistakes that cost Music applicants a UNIUYO place
- Treating 150 as the admission score: it only lets you into screening.
- Leaving UNIUYO as second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened first-choice candidates.
- Ignoring the audition: JAMB’s brochure says UNIUYO requires you to pass one.
- No Music in the UTME: it is compulsory even though the O’level credit is not.
- O’level missing on CAPS: admission cannot be processed without it.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: the acceptance fee and clearance at UNIUYO are separate steps.
If you are writing the UTME again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to do a JAMB change of institution.
UNIUYO cut off mark for Music: frequently asked questions

Is 160 enough for Music at UNIUYO? 160 clears the 150 minimum and gives you a fair chance, provided you pass the audition. I would aim for about 195.
