Temple Gate Poly Mass Communication Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

The Temple Gate Poly Mass Communication cut off mark to plan with is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100. See the UTME subjects, O’level rules, screening, fees and CAPS steps for 2027/2028.

The Temple Gate Poly Mass Communication cut off mark to work with is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. Temple Gate Polytechnic, Aba has not published its own figure for ND Mass Communication in any year I could find. The course is on JAMB’s list for the school, and its subject rules are among the most flexible in the polytechnic brochure.

2027/2028 update: Temple Gate Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Temple Gate Polytechnic is a private polytechnic at Abayi, Osisioma, on the Aba side of Abia State. NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes lists it as a private institution at P.O. Box 3448, Aba, with 2009 as the year the government approved it. Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s course list shows it as Temple-gate Polytechnic with 15 course entries. Check the spelling carefully when you pick it as your institution on the JAMB portal.

Mass Communication appears on both the JAMB list for Temple Gate and the older schoolings.org list of its courses, and an o3schools post from January 2026 gives a fee for it under a School of Communication Arts. None of these is an official admission notice, so check with the school that the department is admitting for the year you apply.

JAMB held the polytechnic floor at 100 for two years in a row and told schools in 2026 to follow the agreed marks strictly. Mass Communication is popular at many polytechnics, and a school can admit above the minimum when demand is high, but Temple Gate has never announced a higher figure.

Safe target score for Mass Communication at Temple Gate (my advice)

This table is my view as an admissions adviser, since Temple Gate publishes no merit list or applicant numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Mass Communication at Temple Gate
Below 100Not eligible for ND admission through JAMB this session
100 to 119Eligible; likely if the course is admitting and your credits are in order
120 to 139Good chance
140 and aboveStrong. I would aim for this range.

For 2027 I would aim for 130 to 140. Mass Communication draws more applicants than most management courses at many schools, so a few extra marks give you insurance. That is a general pattern; Temple Gate has published nothing on its own demand.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Mass Communication at Temple Gate

RequirementND Mass Communication
UTME subjectsUse of English plus any three subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Physical Sciences
Temple Gate remark on the brochureNone, so the base rule applies
O’levelFive credits including English Language and Mathematics, plus any three from History, Literature in English, Economics or Commerce, Fine Arts, Government, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Basic Electricity, Geography, Typewriting and Principles of Accounts
SittingsNot more than two (schoolings.org page on Temple Gate, unofficial)
Direct EntryNot applicable for ND; the brochure’s Direct Entry section is blank

The base rule gives you a lot of room. For the UTME, I would choose three subjects you wrote at SSCE and are strong in, such as Literature in English, Government and Economics, or Government, Economics and CRS. A science student could even use Physics, Chemistry and Biology under the brochure wording, although I would include at least one arts or social science subject so the screening officer sees an obvious fit.

Literature in English is where many applicants get confused. YABATECH, Offa Poly, Kwara Poly, Nasarawa Poly and a few others require it through remarks on the brochure page. Those remarks do not mention Temple Gate, so it is optional for you. I still think it is a good choice, because the course is built around writing and reading.

For O’level, English Language and Mathematics credits are compulsory. A Mathematics credit catches out some arts students, so check yours before you register.

HND after the ND

ND entry is through the UTME, since JAMB’s Direct Entry route is for degree programmes. After the ND, NBTE’s usual pattern is a year of industrial attachment, then an HND for which most schools want at least a Lower Credit. The o3schools post lists an HND fee for Mass Communication at Temple Gate, which suggests an HND stream, but the school has not confirmed it.

How Temple Gate Poly screening works

I found no official 2026/2027 screening notice from Temple Gate, and its website does not open. A schoolings.org page about the school, last modified in 2020, sets out the basic conditions:

  • Minimum age of 16 in the year of admission.
  • Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, at not more than two sittings.
  • A UTME score at or above JAMB’s current minimum.
  • After that, the polytechnic’s internal screening.

No date, fee or format is given. Ask the admissions office whether screening is a document check, an interview or a test. If there is an interview, be ready to introduce yourself clearly and talk about a current news story, since that is a natural thing to ask a media applicant.

Worked example (illustrative)

Take Chukwuemeka, who scored 131 in English, Literature in English, Government and CRS. His WAEC result has credits in English, Mathematics, Literature, Government and Economics.

  1. JAMB minimum: 131 minus 100 is 31 marks above the polytechnic floor.
  2. My safe target: 131 is just above my 130 line, in the good-chance band.
  3. UTME subjects: three arts and social science subjects, which the base rule allows.
  4. O’level: English and Mathematics are in place, with three relevant subjects, from one sitting.

Purely as an illustration of an aggregate: 131 divided by 8 is 16.4 out of 50, and adding a screening mark of 30 out of 50 gives 46.4 out of 100. Temple Gate has not published a formula and may simply admit everyone eligible who completes the process.

What Temple Gate Poly is reported to charge

Temple Gate has not published a fee schedule I could reach. The only figures online come from an o3schools blog post dated 26 January 2026, which credits a school tuition page I could not open. Treat them as a rough guide and get the current amounts from the bursary in writing.

ItemAmount claimed by the blog (unofficial)
Admission form (ND)₦5,000
Acceptance fee (ND)₦15,000
ND tuition, School of Communication Arts₦55,000

These amounts look low for a private polytechnic in 2026, and the post does not say which session they belong to, so they may be old. The same post says fees paid are not refundable, which is one more reason to confirm the course is admitting before you pay anything. Ask too about practical costs such as studio sessions or field reporting, which some departments charge for separately.

How to apply for Mass Communication at Temple Gate Poly, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Mass Communication with Use of English and three subjects you are strong in from Arts, Social Sciences or Physical Sciences, and select Temple Gate Polytechnic as your polytechnic. If you already picked another school, use JAMB change of institution before the polytechnic starts screening.
  3. Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot match you to the course without it.
  4. Buy the Temple Gate form through the school: visit or call the admissions office in Aba, ask for the form price, closing date and screening date, and keep every receipt.
  5. Attend screening with your documents: UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or declaration of age, local government identification and passport photographs.
  6. Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: get the acceptance fee and school fees from the bursary in writing, pay through the channel the school names, then complete medical and departmental registration.

Warning

Temple Gate Polytechnic has no official website I could open: Wikipedia’s link to its tgp.edu.ng about page is marked as dead, and the other domain blogs cite could not be confirmed. A page, WhatsApp group or agent selling forms or reserved places may have nothing to do with the school. JAMB says admissions outside CAPS are illegal, so every genuine offer appears on your CAPS page.

Your chances of admission into Mass Communication at Temple Gate

  • Because the subject rule is wide, the most common problems are a missing Mathematics credit or an O’level result that was never uploaded to CAPS.
  • With 125 or more and the right credits, I think your chances are good at a private polytechnic of this size.
  • If Temple Gate is not admitting, Abia State Polytechnic also lists Mass Communication, and Public Administration at Temple Gate is a nearby option, though it needs Government, History and Economics.
  • For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB’s deadline for polytechnic admissions is 31 December 2026.

What you study in ND Mass Communication

Mass Communication covers how news and information are gathered, produced and shared through print, radio, television and online channels. Temple Gate has not published its course outline, so this describes the ND in general terms.

  • News writing and reporting, editing and feature writing.
  • Radio and television production, presentation and scriptwriting.
  • Public relations, advertising and media marketing.
  • Photojournalism, desktop publishing and online media.
  • Media law and ethics, communication theory and English usage.
  • SIWES placement, often with a newspaper, broadcaster, PR firm or the information unit of a government office.

Duration and accreditation

NBTE’s standard ND runs for two years full-time. Temple Gate has not confirmed its own timetable. NBTE lists the school as a private polytechnic approved in 2009, but I could not confirm Mass Communication’s programme accreditation from NBTE’s tables. The schoolings.org list calls it accredited but names NABTEB, an examination body, as the approver, so I would not rely on it. Ask the school for its NBTE accreditation letter for the course before paying tuition.

Careers

  • Reporter, newsroom assistant or producer with newspapers, radio and TV stations
  • Public relations and corporate communication officer
  • Advertising, social media and content work for businesses
  • Further study: HND Mass Communication, or a degree in Mass Communication or Journalism

Mistakes Mass Communication applicants make

  • Forgetting the Mathematics credit: the brochure makes it compulsory for Mass Communication.
  • Following another school’s remark: YABATECH’s Literature, Economics and Government rule does not bind Temple Gate applicants.
  • Paying an agent for a reserved place: only CAPS offers are genuine.
  • Skipping the CAPS upload: do it at a JAMB centre as soon as your result is out.
  • Ignoring the acceptance step: accepting on CAPS and paying the school’s acceptance fee are two separate actions.

If you are getting ready for 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result.
