The Temple Gate Poly Banking and Finance cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, the minimum JAMB set for all polytechnics for 2026/2027. Temple Gate Polytechnic, Aba has never published a separate figure for ND Banking and Finance, and the one blog that mentions a score for the school says “at least 100”, the same as JAMB.
2027/2028 update: Temple Gate Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Temple Gate Polytechnic is a private polytechnic at Abayi, Osisioma, in Aba, Abia State. JAMB’s course list, as reprinted by Myschool, spells it “Temple-gate Polytechnic” and shows Banking and Finance among its 14 courses. Below are the verified figures, a safe target score, the subject combination checked against JAMB’s polytechnic brochure, the screening position, the CAPS steps and what the course involves.
Temple Gate Poly Banking and Finance cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics | 100 | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| Temple Gate departmental cut-off for Banking and Finance | Not published | No official figure found for any session |
| “At least 100” seen on a blog | 100 | Unofficial (schoolings.org page updated 4 March 2026); matches JAMB’s floor |
| Programme level | National Diploma (ND) | Entry through the UTME and JAMB CAPS |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics and two of Economics, Geography, History, Government, Commerce, Principles of Accounts | JAMB polytechnic brochure (Myschool reprint); no Temple Gate remark |
| Screening fee and dates | Not published | Ask the admissions office |
| JAMB deadline for 2026/2027 polytechnic admissions | 31 December 2026 | Official (NAN, 11 May 2026) |
Temple Gate has not put out an official 2026/2027 admission notice that I could find, and its website (tgp.edu.ng, according to Wikipedia) is marked there as a dead link. Banking and Finance is on JAMB’s list for the school, but confirm with the polytechnic that the course is admitting this session before you pay for a form.
Temple Gate Poly Banking and Finance cut off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Undated | 100 | “Must score at least 100” on a Temple Gate requirements page | Unofficial blog (schoolings.org) |
| Any year | None | Temple Gate figure for Banking and Finance specifically | Never published in any source I found |
JAMB set 100 for polytechnics in 2025 and again in 2026, and said at the 2026 meeting that the agreed cut-off marks must be strictly followed. Temple Gate can set a higher mark for its own courses but has not announced one, so 100 is the only number with a source behind it.
Safe target score for Banking and Finance at Temple Gate (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a Temple Gate rule. The school publishes no merit lists, so nobody can quote exact odds.
| Your UTME score | My read for ND Banking and Finance at Temple Gate |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any ND course through JAMB this session |
| 100 to 119 | Eligible. A place is possible if your O’level is complete. |
| 120 to 139 | Good chance |
| 140 and above | Strong. This is where I would aim. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 140, with credits in English, Mathematics and Economics. Banking and Finance usually attracts fewer applicants than Accountancy at polytechnics in the South East, so I set the target a little lower. Temple Gate does not publish applicant numbers, so this is my estimate, not a school figure.
Temple Gate Banking and Finance subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | ND Banking and Finance |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics and any two of Economics, Geography, History, Government, Commerce and Principles of Accounts |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language (not Literature in English) and Mathematics, plus any three from Economics/Commerce, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Geography, Office Practice, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Physics, History/Government, Typewriting and Shorthand |
| Exams usually accepted | WAEC, NECO and NABTEB |
| Sittings | Not stated by Temple Gate; most polytechnics allow two |
| Temple Gate remark in the brochure | None. The page names other polytechnics but not Temple Gate. |
| Interview or practical | None published |
The Banking and Finance list is slightly wider than the Accountancy one: History is allowed as one of the two UTME subjects. Economics and Commerce are the pair I would choose, since almost every polytechnic accepts them for this course, and they also fit Accountancy and Business Administration at Temple Gate if you change course later. History does not fit those, so I would avoid it unless it is your strongest subject.
Some polytechnics run this course under another name. The brochure notes that Offa Poly, Osun Poly and two other schools offer it as Financial Studies. On JAMB’s list for Temple Gate it is Banking and Finance.
Business Studies is not on the brochure’s UTME list, and Economics is not compulsory in the base O’level rule. I would still include an Economics credit, because the course is built on it.
What the blog says, and what it gets wrong
A schoolings.org page on Temple Gate’s admission requirements (updated 4 March 2026) asks for credits in English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects and a UTME score of at least 100. Both points match JAMB. The same page names a different polytechnic in one paragraph, a sign that its text was copied from another school’s page, and it says Direct Entry and HND applicants need an Upper Credit. The usual NBTE minimum for HND is a Lower Credit, so treat the Upper Credit claim as unconfirmed.
Direct Entry and the HND route
ND Banking and Finance has no Direct Entry: you come in through the UTME and CAPS. After the two-year ND and a year of industrial training (SIWES or IT), the standard NBTE route to an HND asks for at least a Lower Credit. Wikipedia and a 2025 blog both say Temple Gate offers HND as well as ND, but I could not find its HND course list, so ask whether HND Banking and Finance runs there before you count on it.
How screening works at Temple Gate Polytechnic
Temple Gate has not published a screening notice, form fee, test format or ranking method in any source I could reach. Blogs that cover the school describe only general requirements. Here is what to ask the admissions office, in order:
- Is ND Banking and Finance admitting this session, and in which mode (full time or part time)?
- What is the form price, and how do I pay it (bank, portal or school account)?
- Is there a written test or an interview, and on what date?
- Do you accept two sittings and awaiting results at screening?
- What are the acceptance fee and first-year tuition?
Write down the answers and the name of the person who gave them. With a small private school, that record is your best protection if something changes later.
Worked example (illustrative)
Take Somto, who scored 124 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Commerce, with credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce and Biology over two NECO and WAEC sittings.
- Eligibility: 124 minus 100 = 24. He clears JAMB’s minimum.
- Against my safe target: 140 minus 124 = 16. He is in the good-chance band.
- UTME combination: Economics and Commerce are both on the brochure list.
- O’level check: English and Mathematics credits are there, and Economics/Commerce and Biology are on the list. He asks Temple Gate whether it accepts two sittings, since the school has not said.
- Course status: he confirms that Banking and Finance is admitting before buying the form.
To show how a mixed ranking can work: divide the UTME score by 8 for a mark out of 50 and add a screening score out of 50. Somto’s 124 gives 15.5, and 34 out of 50 at screening would give him 49.5 out of 100. Temple Gate has not published a formula, so this is an illustration only.
How to apply for Banking and Finance at Temple Gate, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Banking and Finance with Use of English, Mathematics and two of Economics, Commerce, Principles of Accounts, Government, History or Geography (Economics and Commerce is the safest pair), and pick Temple-gate Polytechnic as your polytechnic.
- Fix your choice if needed: if Temple Gate was not on your list, do a JAMB change of institution. To move into Banking and Finance from another course, see JAMB change of course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB CBT centre once your result is out. JAMB cannot approve an offer without it.
- Get the screening form from the school: visit or call the admissions office at Abayi, Osisioma, and ask the questions listed above.
- Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result and any other documents the school asks for when you collect the form.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: the fee is not published, so get the amount in writing from the bursary and keep every receipt.
Warning
JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal. A real Temple Gate offer appears on your CAPS page. Do not pay anyone who promises a Banking and Finance place without CAPS, and do not pay school fees into a personal account.
If you are still preparing for the UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam see how to check your JAMB result.
Your chances of getting Banking and Finance at Temple Gate
- With 120 or more and a complete O’level, I think you have a good chance, because Banking and Finance is rarely oversubscribed at private polytechnics.
- Your O’level must be uploaded to CAPS before any offer can go through.
- If the course is not admitting, Accountancy at Temple Gate uses the same UTME subjects except History, so Economics and Commerce keep both doors open.
- JAMB asked polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so keep checking CAPS until then if you are in the current cycle.
Studying Banking and Finance at Temple Gate Polytechnic
ND Banking and Finance covers how banks and other financial institutions work, and the accounting that sits under them. Temple Gate has not published its course outline, so this is the general ND pattern.
What you study
- Principles and practice of banking, including bank operations and customer service
- Money, banking and the Nigerian financial system
- Financial accounting and elements of finance
- Credit, lending and basic risk
- Business law, economics and business statistics
- Computer applications, general studies and SIWES
Duration and accreditation
Under the standard NBTE structure, the ND runs for two years full time, followed by a year of industrial training if you want the HND. Temple Gate has not published a course-specific timetable. NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes lists Temple Gate Polytechnic as a private polytechnic approved by government in 2009, and Wikipedia says it was established in 2005. I could not confirm the programme-level accreditation status of ND Banking and Finance: the directory’s programme tables were unreadable in the copy I reached. Ask the department for its NBTE accreditation letter before you pay tuition.
Careers after the ND
- Customer service, teller and operations roles in commercial and microfinance banks
- Cooperatives, savings groups and finance houses
- Agent banking and payment businesses
- HND, then professional banking exams with the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN)

Mistakes Banking and Finance applicants make
- Choosing History without a plan: it is valid here but closes the door on Accountancy and Business Administration.
- Dropping Mathematics: the brochure makes it compulsory.
- Only a pass in Mathematics or English at O’level: both must be credits.
- Assuming two sittings are fine: Temple Gate has not said, so ask.
- Waiting for a printed list: your offer appears on CAPS first.
Temple Gate Poly Banking and Finance cut off mark: FAQs

Is Banking and Finance the same as Financial Studies? Some polytechnics use the name Financial Studies for the same field. Temple Gate’s course appears on JAMB’s list as Banking and Finance.
Does Temple Gate Poly offer HND Banking and Finance? The school is said to run HND courses, but I found no HND list for it. Ask the admissions office before planning your HND there.
Sources and updates
The 100 minimum for polytechnics and the 31 December 2026 deadline come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026); the 2025/2026 figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The course list is from the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list for Temple-gate Polytechnic. The UTME and O’level requirements are from JAMB’s polytechnic brochure as reprinted by Myschool (ND Banking and Finance brochure page), which has no Temple Gate remark. The address and 2009 approval year are from NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes; the 2005 founding date and the tgp.edu.ng website are from Wikipedia. The “at least 100” line and the Upper Credit claim are from a schoolings.org page (updated 4 March 2026), and the ND and HND mention from an abstechconnect blog (24 March 2025); both are unofficial. The safe target score and worked example are my advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when Temple Gate publishes a 2027/2028 notice.
