There is no UTME cut-off mark for Agricultural Science (Double Major) at ESCET for 2027/2028 candidates who have at least four O’level credits. National policy agreed on 11 May 2026 exempts NCE applicants with four credits from the UTME; they still register with JAMB and receive offers only on CAPS. Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu has not published a cut-off for Agricultural Science Education.
2027/2028 update: ESCET admission requirements and entry rules usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the rules on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official position (the 2026/2027 national admission policy and JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide) and the college’s 2026/2027 advert as reprinted online. If the 2027/2028 rules change anything, we will update this page.
Agricultural Science is one of ESCET’s vocational double majors, so you study agriculture alone, in depth, instead of pairing it with a second teaching subject. This page sets out the cut-off position, the O’level subjects that matter, JAMB’s NCE costs, a worked example, the CAPS steps, and where the certificate leads, including the degree years ESCET now advertises.

ESCET Agricultural Science cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2027/2028 | No UTME score needed for NCE | Planning position based on the 2026/2027 rules | Unless JAMB changes the policy |
| 2026/2027 | No UTME score needed | Four-credit NCE candidates are exempt from the UTME, register with JAMB and are admitted on CAPS | Official national policy and JAMB’s June 2026 guide |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for colleges of education | Official national figure (JAMB, July 2025) |
| Any year | None found | An ESCET figure for Agricultural Science | Not published |
The same 2026 policy also freed some agriculture ND candidates at polytechnics from the UTME, which is why JAMB’s June 2026 guide covers “NCE and agriculture ND” together. Do not mix the two up: an ND is a polytechnic diploma, while ESCET awards the NCE.
On timing, Nairametrics (11 May 2026) reported that the NCE exemption starts with the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s June 2026 NCE registration guide and Legit (23 July 2026) show it in use in 2026. Either way, a 2027/2028 candidate with four or more credits skips the UTME for NCE.
O’level requirements for Agricultural Science at ESCET
ESCET has not published its own subject list for 2026/2027. The table gives the national rule, the usual college of education pattern, and JAMB’s degree-level requirement for comparison.
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Credits | At least four | National policy, 11 May 2026 |
| Compulsory | English Language and Mathematics | Usual college of education pattern |
| Relevant subjects | Two credits relevant to agriculture | Usual pattern |
| Sittings | Not more than two | Usual pattern |
| Degree-level O’level (for comparison) | Five credits including English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and one other relevant subject | JAMB brochure entry for Agricultural Science and Education |
| UTME | Not needed with four credits; JAMB registration still needed | National policy and JAMB guide |
How strong is your O’level for Agricultural Science?
| Your O’level profile | My read for NCE Agricultural Science at ESCET |
|---|---|
| No credit in English or Mathematics | Not eligible. Resit first |
| English, Mathematics and two arts subjects | Meets the count but fails the relevance test |
| English, Mathematics, Agricultural Science and Biology | Good fit |
| English, Mathematics, Agricultural Science, Biology and Chemistry | The profile I would aim for, since it also satisfies degree-level rules |
That ranking is my consultant’s view, not an ESCET rule. Chemistry matters because JAMB’s brochure entry for Agricultural Science and Education lists it among the degree-level O’level subjects, and ESCET’s programme continues into degree years.
If you also sit the UTME for a degree
For university admission, UNN’s remark in that brochure entry asks for Agricultural Science or Biology, Chemistry, and one of Economics, Geography or Government in the UTME, with Use of English compulsory. Confirm your target university’s entry on the JAMB e-brochure. Once you are recommended for NCE, JAMB suspends your UTME process.
JAMB NCE costs and rules for ESCET applicants
| JAMB NCE item (2026) | What the guide says |

| NCE application | ₦3,500 |
| CBT centre (IPRC) charge | ₦700 |
| Who puts you forward | The college proposes candidates on CAPS and the Provost recommends them |
| O’level result | Must be on CAPS; awaiting-result candidates cannot be proposed until upload |
| 2026 UTME candidates with a college of education first | Migrated to NCE for a ₦700 charge |
| Effect of an NCE recommendation | Any UTME or Direct Entry process is suspended |
| 2026 registration opened | 23 July 2026 (Nairametrics) |
ESCET screening for Agricultural Science
ESCET’s 2026/2027 advert, as reprinted, does not give a screening date, fee, test or official portal. No farm practical or interview for this course is mentioned in any source I found. The usual process applies: the college checks your O’level on CAPS against the course requirement, and the Provost recommends successful candidates.
Worked example (illustrative)
Somto (invented) sat WAEC and NECO. WAEC: English C6, Mathematics D7, Biology C5, Agricultural Science B3, Geography C6. NECO: Mathematics C5, Chemistry C6.
- Sittings: two. Within the usual limit.
- English and Mathematics: English from WAEC, Mathematics from NECO. Pass.
- Relevant subjects: Agricultural Science, Biology and Chemistry. Strong.
- Costs on the JAMB side: ₦2,000 for two verification codes, then ₦3,500 and ₦700.
- Verdict: a solid file. Upload both results to CAPS so the college sees the combined credits.
If Somto had only the WAEC result, the D7 in Mathematics would leave him short of the usual requirement, even with four other credits.
Your chances and my advice
- Agricultural Science credit first: it is the most obvious relevant subject and the one I would want on the file.
- Do not neglect Chemistry: it is not always needed for the NCE, but degree entry often asks for it.
- Register early: proposals on CAPS follow uploaded results, and the 2026/2027 window for colleges of education runs until 31 December 2026.
- Check your names: O’level, birth certificate and JAMB record should match.
How to apply for Agricultural Science at ESCET
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Buy your O’level verification code: ₦1,500 for one sitting or ₦2,000 for two (2026 figures).
- Register with JAMB for NCE: choose Enugu State College of Education (Technical), Enugu and Agricultural Science (Double Major). If you picked another school, do a JAMB change of institution.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: the college cannot propose you until the result is on your profile.
- Complete ESCET’s form if one opens: follow the college’s official notice and pay only through an official invoice.
- Accept on CAPS: at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave four weeks to accept in 2026/2027. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains the statuses.
- Pay acceptance and register: ESCET has not published an acceptance fee, so confirm it with the college.
Warning
JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal, and no college of education may admit candidates into 100 or 200 level of a degree. Ignore anyone selling an ESCET Agricultural Science “slot”. Confirm the course is admitting before you pay.
Studying Agricultural Science (Double Major) at ESCET
ESCET is a state-owned college of education in Enugu with a technical and vocational focus. Its 2026/2027 advert describes a straight five-year programme: the NCE after three years, a bachelor’s degree after two more, and a practical vocational skill at no extra fee. The advert does not name the degree-awarding body, so get that answer before you count on the degree.
What you study
- Crop production: soils, planting, crop protection and harvesting.
- Animal production: poultry, livestock and fish farming.
- Farm practice and agricultural economics: farm records, marketing and small enterprise.
- Teaching the subject: methods for teaching Agricultural Science in schools, including school farm work.
- Education and general studies: psychology, curriculum, assessment, then teaching practice.
This follows the usual NCE pattern for agriculture; ESCET’s own outline is not online.
Accreditation
The NCCE accredited colleges list (checked 29 October 2026) shows ESCET as an open state college of education. NCCE accreditation for Agricultural Science specifically is not confirmed, and no approval for the degree years has been published.
Careers and next steps
- Teaching: Agricultural Science in junior and senior secondary schools, after TRCN registration.
- Degree by Direct Entry: the JAMB brochure’s general Direct Entry rule for Agricultural Science and Education is an NCE merit pass in Biology and another science subject, so check how your double major is treated by your target university. See our UNN Agricultural Education and ESUT Agricultural Education guides.
- Farming and extension: poultry, fish and crop enterprises, and extension work with farmers.
