Maurid College of Nursing Midwifery Admission Requirements 2027/2028, Entrance Exam and Form

Maurid College of Nursing is NMCN-approved (Provisional) for midwifery but publishes no separate intake. See the UTME subjects, O’level rules, 150 JAMB minimum and the questions to ask before applying.

Maurid College of Nursing midwifery admission requirements have not been published separately from nursing. The college’s website describes one programme, “ND Nursing Sciences and Midwifery”, with five O’level credits including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in not more than two sittings and a UTME in Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. NMCN lists midwifery at Maurid as a separate programme with Provisional approval from July 2024. If you are applying for midwifery, plan with the nursing requirements and the 2026 JAMB minimum of 150 for colleges of nursing.

2027/2028 update: Maurid College of Nursing midwifery cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027 JAMB minimum; Maurid has not published its own figure). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

This page sets out what is confirmed, what is not, and the questions to ask the college. Maurid College of Nursing Sciences is a private college at Mbiaso, Nsit Ibom LGA, Akwa Ibom State; NMCN’s list calls it “Maurid College of Nursing Sciences, Uyo”.

Safe target score (consultant advice)

Aim for 180 or more, the same target I give for Maurid nursing. This is my advice. Do not rely on 140, which was 2025’s national minimum and is now below JAMB’s floor.

Questions to ask Maurid before you apply for midwifery

  1. Is there a separate midwifery intake this session, or is midwifery part of the ND Nursing Sciences programme?
  2. What award do midwifery students get (basic midwifery certificate or a diploma), and how long is the course?
  3. What is the current NMCN status for midwifery? The December 2025 list shows Provisional from July 2024.
  4. How is the programme listed on JAMB, so I can choose the right course on my UTME registration?
  5. What are the form, acceptance and tuition fees?

Get the answers from the official website or in writing at the college. Do not rely on blog listings: third-party sites list programmes and fees for Maurid that the college itself has not published.

Worked example (illustrative)

Akpan Ifiok wants midwifery and scored 172 in the 2026 UTME with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. She has WAEC credits in all five subjects. She clears JAMB’s 150 minimum and meets Maurid’s published requirements. Her next step is to confirm with the college whether midwifery is admitted on its own and under which name it appears on JAMB, then make sure her UTME course choice matches before CAPS processing.

Her friend Mbuotidem scored 148. However strong her O’level, no college of nursing can admit her on that score in 2026, because it is below JAMB’s minimum. She should rewrite the UTME.

How to apply

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN and your NIN to 55019 or 66019.
  2. Register for the 2027 UTME: Use of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, with Maurid among your choices.
  3. Upload your O’level for CAPS.
  4. Ask the college the five questions above before buying any form.
  5. Write the college’s screening if it holds one.
  6. Accept on CAPS and print your admission letter: see our JAMB CAPS guide.

Check before you pay

Maurid’s NMCN approval for midwifery was Provisional from July 2024, a two-year status. Ask for the current NMCN letter and confirm how midwifery is admitted before you pay any fee.

Which option fits you

  • UTME score between 150 and 190: Maurid is realistic; AKSCONS nursing asked for 190 in 2026.
  • No UTME, but five science credits: watch for an AKSCONS basic midwifery advert, which used its own exam in 2023.
  • Already a registered nurse: post-basic midwifery at AKSCONS is the usual route; Maurid has not advertised a post-basic course.
  • Living near Mbiaso or Uyo: Maurid’s location may save you hostel costs, which matters when fees are not published.

Whatever you choose, confirm the NMCN status of the exact programme before paying. A midwifery certificate is only useful if NMCN will let you sit its examination and register.

About midwifery training

What you study

  • Anatomy and physiology of reproduction.
  • Antenatal care, normal labour and delivery, and postnatal care.
  • Care of the newborn, breastfeeding and immunisation.
  • Obstetric emergencies, family planning and community midwifery.
  • Clinical postings, ending in NMCN’s midwifery examination.

Careers

  • Maternity units, labour wards and antenatal clinics.
  • Primary health centres and maternity homes.
  • Registration with NMCN as a midwife; later nursing or degree study.

See also Maurid College of Nursing admission requirements for the nursing requirements in full.

Midwifery or nursing: which should you choose?

If you are drawn to pregnancy, birth and newborn care, midwifery is a direct route into that work. If you want the widest range of jobs, nursing is broader, and you can add midwifery later through a post-basic course. Many Nigerian hospitals value nurses who hold both registrations. At Maurid the two are described together, so ask the college whether you can take both or must choose one.

What happens after admission

  • Accept on CAPS and print your JAMB admission letter.
  • Pay acceptance and school fees through the college’s official channel, and keep receipts.
  • Register with the college with your original credentials.
  • NMCN indexing: nursing and midwifery students are indexed with NMCN during training; ask the college when and how this is done for your set.
  • Clinical postings and the NMCN examination at the end of the programme lead to registration.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing the wrong course on JAMB: confirm how midwifery is listed before you register.
  • Relying on blog listings for fees or programmes: only the college’s own information counts.
  • Skipping Physics: it is part of both the UTME and O’level requirements.
  • Planning around 140: 150 is the 2026 minimum.
  • Ignoring the Provisional status: ask for the latest NMCN letter.

Documents and revision plan

The college has not published a document list, so this is the set most Nigerian nursing colleges ask for at screening and registration. Have it ready early.

  • JAMB documents: UTME result slip, registration slip and, after CAPS acceptance, the JAMB admission letter.
  • O’level: original result or statement of result, plus photocopies; scratch cards or verification details if asked.
  • Identity and origin: birth certificate or declaration of age, local government certificate of origin and NIN slip.
  • Photographs and files: recent passport photographs and folders for your documents.
  • Medical report: nursing colleges commonly ask for one after admission.
