The Ritman University Chemistry cut off mark for 2027/2028 is, in practice, the JAMB national minimum of 150 for universities. Ritman University, a private university in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, has not published a separate cut-off for Chemistry: Ritman’s admissions page does not print a number. It only asks candidates to meet the UTME cut-off for their chosen course. Chemistry is one of Ritman’s first programmes and is still on its 2025 programme list.
2027/2028 update: Ritman cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They are based on JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because Ritman has not published its own course cut-offs. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Below are the official position, a safe target score, the exact JAMB brochure lines, Ritman’s CBT screening with a worked example, the CAPS steps, and Chemistry’s NUC accreditation record, which has had ups and downs.

Is Chemistry on JAMB’s list for Ritman?
Yes. JAMB’s course list for Ritman (Myschool reprint, 19 courses) includes Chemistry, and Ritman’s own admission notice of 21 October 2025 lists B.Sc. Chemistry among its 40 NUC-approved undergraduate programmes. That means you can choose the course on your JAMB profile and Ritman can offer it to you on CAPS.
Ritman grew quickly in 2025 and 2026. Its news post of 6 October 2026 says NUC approved 22 new programmes, taking it to 40 programmes in six faculties. Several older courses were renamed or split along the way (Biology, Physics, Management and Industrial Relations among them), but Chemistry kept its place, so the path for this course is simple.

Ritman’s admissions page still says, in its JUPEB section, that JUPEB suits candidates who scored below 140. That figure is an older JAMB floor. For 2026 JAMB set 150 as the minimum for universities, so I would not plan with 140 for Chemistry or any other Ritman course.
Safe target score for Chemistry at Ritman (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. Ritman University does not publish merit lists or the lowest score it admitted, so the bands below are planning ranges.

Pure Chemistry is rarely oversubscribed at private universities. For 2027 I would aim for 155 or more, ideally 175, with good credits in Chemistry and Mathematics.

JAMB’s line lets you pick any two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics alongside Chemistry. Mathematics and Physics is the pairing I would choose, because it also fits Industrial Chemistry and keeps engineering-style options open.
At O’level, JAMB’s general line asks for all three sciences plus Mathematics and English. Check that you have every one before you apply.
Direct Entry into Chemistry
JAMB’s brochure line for Direct Entry: two A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology, or an ND or NCE with good grades in relevant O’level subjects. Ritman’s own rule: five O’level credits including English and Mathematics (two sittings at most), plus OND, NCE, IJMB or A-level for 200 level entry (Ritman admissions page). Register Direct Entry with JAMB, not only on the Ritman portal; a DE offer still has to appear on CAPS.
How Ritman screening works for Chemistry
Ritman screens UTME and Direct Entry candidates with a computer-based test (CBT). Candidates apply online at applicant.safapply.com/ritmanuniversity, sit the test, and those offered admission then go through an ICT training and orientation programme. The admissions page warns that false entries on the online form can lead to disqualification. Ritman has not published the CBT’s subjects, length or pass mark.
A 2025/2026 blog summary (Myschoolgist) said the form and screening cost ₦10,000 and that candidates brought a passport photograph, their JAMB result slip and the payment evidence to an aptitude test. Ritman has not confirmed that amount on any page I could open, so confirm it on the portal before paying.
Worked example for a Chemistry candidate
Ritman has not published how it weighs the UTME against its CBT. Many Nigerian universities convert both to a score out of 100 by dividing the UTME by 8 (up to 50 marks) and scaling the screening test to 50. I use that method below only as an illustration; it is not a Ritman formula.
- UTME: Etido scored 166. 166 divided by 8 = 20.75 out of 50.
- CBT: suppose Etido scores 60% on Ritman’s test. Half of that is 30.0 out of 50.
- Illustrative aggregate: 20.75 + 30.0 = 50.75 out of 100.
- Margin over the floor: 166 minus 150 = 16 marks above JAMB’s minimum, and 11 marks above my safe target of 155.
- What I would advise: he is above my target. He should also look at Industrial Chemistry, which shares the faculty.
Admission odds for Chemistry at Ritman
A candidate with 155 or above, the right O’level credits and a fair CBT result should get a Chemistry place. Chemistry has fewer applicants than Biochemistry or Microbiology at most schools.
- Choose Ritman first: Ritman also accepts candidates through a JAMB change of institution, according to its October 2025 notice.
- Upload O’level early: no university can give you admission on CAPS without your results there.
- Apply before the private-university deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities, so the 2026/2027 exercise runs until that date.
- Keep a second option: if you also hold a strong score, apply to a public university in the next cycle as well.
How to apply for Chemistry at Ritman, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: Use of English, Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology or Mathematics, with Ritman University as your first choice. Ritman also takes change of institution candidates.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. Check that the grades show correctly.
- Apply on the Ritman portal: applicant.safapply.com/ritmanuniversity. Fill the form with the same names as on your JAMB and O’level records.
- Sit the CBT screening: bring what the portal asks for, which blogs say includes your JAMB slip and a passport photograph.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer and print your JAMB admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each CAPS status.
- Pay acceptance and register: pay only through the invoice the portal generates, then complete clearance and the ICT orientation.
Warning
Every genuine Ritman offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Do not pay anyone who promises a Chemistry place or a “slot” outside the official portal; admissions outside CAPS are illegal, as JAMB restated in May 2026.
Fees for Chemistry at Ritman
Ritman’s Pay Fees page carries a revised fee schedule for the 2024/2025 session, posted as two images. I could not read the amounts from it, and no 2026/2027 schedule was published there when I checked. Ask the admissions office (info@ritmanuniversity.edu.ng) for the current Chemistry tuition before you accept an offer.
Studying Chemistry at Ritman
Chemistry sits in Ritman’s Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. A B.Sc. in Chemistry normally runs for four years in Nigeria; Ritman has not published its own duration.
About Ritman University
Ritman University is a private university on Umuahia Road, Ikot Ekpene. NUC licensed it on 5 March 2015 and teaching began in November 2015. Its vice-chancellor since 2 October 2025 is Prof. Akan B. Williams. Its news post of 6 October 2026 says NUC has approved 22 new programmes, taking Ritman from 3 faculties to 6 (Allied Health Sciences, Computing, Environmental Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Social and Management Sciences) and to 40 programmes in all. That post does not date the approvals, and Ritman’s admission notice of 21 October 2025 already listed 40 NUC-approved programmes, so they were in place by late 2025. The same news post reports Full NUC accreditation for English, History and International Studies, and Industrial Chemistry. For a family weighing Ritman, that means a small, growing campus where many departments are new.

Accreditation
NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 show Ritman’s Chemistry with an Interim result, then Denied, then Full, with the next accreditation due in 2026. So the programme failed one visit and later met the standard.
Because the period runs out in 2026, a fresh visit falls around now. Before you accept, ask Ritman whether the 2026 re-accreditation has taken place and what the result was.
Careers
Chemistry graduates work in oil and gas laboratories, paints, plastics, food and drinks, pharmaceuticals, water treatment and environmental monitoring, as well as teaching and quality control. A master’s in analytical, petroleum or environmental chemistry is a common next step.

Mistakes that cost Chemistry applicants a place
- Ignoring accreditation timing: Chemistry’s Full status was due for renewal in 2026, so ask about the latest visit.
- Treating 150 as a guarantee: it only makes you eligible.
- O’level not on CAPS: without it, no offer can be made.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee, clearance and registration at Ritman are separate steps.
