Gregory University Cut-Off Mark for Chemical Engineering 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Gregory University has no separate Chemical Engineering cut-off; it used 140 for all courses, and JAMB’s 2026 university minimum is 150. See the safe target, JAMB subjects, O’level, Direct Entry, accreditation status and screening steps.

There is no published Gregory University cut-off mark for Chemical Engineering. Gregory University, Uturu (GUU) sets one minimum UTME score for all its courses: 140 in 2024/2025 (the university’s own notice) and again in 2025/2026. For 2026 admissions, though, JAMB raised the minimum for every Nigerian university to 150, so 150 is the lowest score you should plan with. I would aim for 180 or more for Chemical Engineering.

2027/2028 update: Gregory University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official figures: Gregory’s 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 notices and JAMB’s 2026 university minimum, since no Gregory 2026/2027 notice with a score was available. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

One more thing before you pick this course: I could not confirm the NUC accreditation status of Chemical Engineering at Gregory University. NUC’s published accreditation results list could not be read as far as Gregory’s entries, and NUC’s online report pages show Gregory’s Business Administration and English programmes with full accreditation (visits in November 2024) but nothing for engineering. I found no COREN report either. Gregory’s College of Engineering lists Chemical Engineering among its six departments, so the course runs; ask the university in writing about its NUC and COREN status before you pay acceptance.

ABSU does not have Chemical Engineering on its JAMB course list. In Abia, MOUAU runs it (see our MOUAU Chemical Engineering guide), and in Enugu, ESUT runs it (see our ESUT Chemical Engineering guide). I could not confirm a current NUC result for either of those programmes, so ask the same accreditation question there too.

Gregory has never published a separate Chemical Engineering figure, so any site quoting one is guessing. Also, Gregory’s 140 cannot simply carry over into the 2026 cycle, because universities cannot admit below JAMB’s 150. If you scored between 140 and 149 in 2026, you are below the national line for universities this cycle.

Safe target score for Chemical Engineering at Gregory University (my advice)

Gregory is a private university, and private universities tend to admit closer to the minimum than federal and state ones. Engineering still fills faster than many other courses, and your O’level grades count alongside your UTME score. This table is my judgement from how engineering admission works at universities in the South East. Gregory has published nothing like it.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Gregory Chemical Engineering
Below 150Below JAMB’s 2026 university minimum; not eligible
150 to 169Eligible; your chance depends on strong O’level grades and on how many candidates applied
170 to 189Fair chance, especially with B grades in Mathematics and Chemistry
190 to 209Good
210 and aboveStrong

I would aim for 180 or more. If your score is close to 150, look at Gregory’s Chemistry or Petroleum Engineering entries and compare their requirements early. A JAMB change of course is easier before admission starts than after.

JAMB subject combination and O’level for Chemical Engineering at Gregory University

RequirementWhat the JAMB brochure says
Course name on JAMBChemical Engineering (listed under Engineering, Environment and Technology on Gregory’s course list)
UTMEUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry
O’levelFive SSCE credits: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and any other science subject
Direct EntryA-level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (all three)
Gregory-specific remarksNone. Gregory is not named in any UTME, O’level or Direct Entry remark. Further Mathematics is not part of the general O’level line; it appears only in other universities’ remarks

Your four UTME papers are Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with no alternative. At O’level you need credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus any other science subject. Biology is the fifth credit most candidates use. Gregory’s 2025/2026 notice accepted WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results in not more than two sittings.

Chemical Engineering suits you if you like Chemistry and Mathematics together and are comfortable with long calculations. It is the engineering course where Chemistry matters most, so a weak Chemistry grade is a warning sign.

Direct Entry

The general Direct Entry line asks for A-level passes in all three of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, which is stricter than most engineering courses, where two A-levels are enough. The only schools named in the Direct Entry remarks are other universities (for example, Caritas and UNIPORT are listed as taking no Direct Entry). Nothing in the entry covers ND or HND holders at Gregory, so ask the admissions office before you buy a Direct Entry form with a polytechnic diploma.

How Gregory University screens applicants

Gregory runs an online post-UTME screening. The details below come from two notices: the university’s own 19 August 2024 notice for 2024/2025, and the 2025/2026 notice as reprinted by Myschool on 24 July 2025. I could not open a 2026/2027 notice, though a news summary says Gregory opened 2026/2027 post-UTME, Direct Entry, transfer, JUPEB and IJMB admissions.

DetailWhat the notices said
Who could apply2025/2026: candidates who chose Gregory as first choice and scored at least 140. Others had to do a change of institution at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre first
Where to applygregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme
Steps (2024 notice)Fill the form, upload a passport photograph and other documents, then pay online
Documents (2025 notice)Passport photograph and UTME result as PDF files, plus WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result (maximum two sittings)
Fee₦2,000, non-refundable, by ATM card (2025/2026)
Written test or interviewNot stated in either notice
Enquiries0806 094 4681 and 0803 733 3920 (2024 notice)

Neither notice describes a written test, so plan as if Gregory will rank you on your UTME score and O’level grades. For Chemical Engineering, your Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry grades will carry the most weight.

Worked example for Chemical Engineering applicants

Gregory has not published an aggregate formula. To show how O’level grades can move you up or down, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not Gregory’s formula.

  1. Ugochi scored 182 with B3, B2, B3, B2, C4 in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. UTME points: 182 ÷ 8 = 22.75. O’level points: 8 + 9 + 8 + 9 + 7 = 41. Illustrative total: 63.75.
  2. Kelechi scored 201 with C6, C5, C6, C6, C5 in the same five subjects. UTME points: 201 ÷ 8 = 25.125. O’level points: 5 + 6 + 5 + 5 + 6 = 27. Illustrative total: 52.125.
  3. The result: Ugochi leads by 11.625 points, even though Kelechi scored 19 more marks in the UTME, because Ugochi’s O’level points are 14 higher.

How to apply for Chemical Engineering at Gregory University, step by step

  1. Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Chemical Engineering at Gregory University, Uturu as your first choice, with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If Gregory is not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before you apply for screening.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your result is out. Check that every required credit shows on your JAMB profile.
  4. Apply for Gregory’s screening: go to gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme, fill the form, upload your passport photograph, UTME result and O’level as PDF files, and pay the fee online (₦2,000 in 2025/2026).
  5. Keep your records: save the payment receipt and the printout of your completed form for clearance.
  6. Check your status: watch the Gregory portal and your JAMB CAPS page. Every offer appears on CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and fees: Gregory’s acceptance and tuition fees were not in any official source I reached. Pay only the amount on your Gregory portal invoice.

Warning

Every genuine Gregory University offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Gregory says it has authorised no agents. Pay screening, acceptance and school fees only through the university’s official portal.

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities such as Gregory, and in September 2026 it kept the existing deadlines when it restored CAPS (Nairametrics, 28 September 2026). If you applied in 2026, check CAPS rather than waiting for a printed list.

Chemical Engineering at Gregory University: the programme

Gregory University is a private university licensed in 2012, on a 100-hectare site at Amaokwe Achara, Uturu, in Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State. Its founder is Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe. The College of Engineering lists six departments on the university website: Civil, Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical, Petroleum, Chemical and Computer Engineering. The dean’s welcome message mentions heavy machinery, technical tools and engineering workshops, and hands-on projects, without naming specific laboratories.

What you study

Gregory has not published a course outline for Chemical Engineering that I could reach. Nigerian engineering degrees follow the NUC benchmark, and the first two years are largely shared across engineering departments. You can expect:

  • Foundations: engineering mathematics, physics, general chemistry, technical drawing and workshop practice in the first two years.
  • Process principles: material and energy balances, chemical engineering thermodynamics and physical chemistry.
  • Transport processes: fluid mechanics, heat transfer and mass transfer.
  • Unit operations: distillation, absorption, filtration, drying and other separation processes.
  • Reactors and control: chemical reaction engineering, process dynamics and process control.
  • Design and practice: plant design and economics, safety, SIWES industrial training and a final-year design project.

Accreditation, degree and duration

I could not confirm NUC accreditation for Gregory’s Chemical Engineering. NUC’s results publication (1990 to 2025) could not be read as far as Gregory, and none of NUC’s online programme reports I found names a Gregory engineering course. COREN accreditation matters as well, because COREN registration as an engineer later depends on it, and I found no COREN report for Gregory. The degree is normally a B.Eng, and five years is the usual length for UTME entrants in Nigerian engineering, with Direct Entry students joining at 200 level; Gregory’s own page does not state either.

Careers

  • Process or production engineer in refineries, petrochemical plants and gas processing.
  • Production and quality roles in food, beverage, brewing, paint, soap and pharmaceutical factories.
  • Water treatment, environmental and waste management work.
  • Health, safety and environment (HSE) roles in oil and gas and manufacturing.
  • Registration as an engineer with COREN after the required experience, then consulting or postgraduate study.

If you are comparing universities, see our SUMAS Chemical Engineering guides too.

For revision, our JAMB Chemistry syllabus covers one of your four papers. If you are writing in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and once results are out, see how to check your JAMB result.

Mistakes that cost Chemical Engineering applicants a Gregory place

  • Treating 140 as the 2026 figure: JAMB’s university minimum for 2026 is 150, so a 140 to 149 score no longer qualifies.
  • Weak Chemistry: Chemistry is compulsory in the UTME and at O’level, and it runs through the whole degree.
  • Direct Entry with only two A-levels: the general line names all three of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Not putting Gregory first: the 2025/2026 notice admitted only first-choice candidates.
  • Paying an agent: Gregory says it has authorised no agents.
  • Missing the CAPS window: JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer.

Gregory University Chemical Engineering: frequently asked questions

What is the cut-off mark for Chemical Engineering in Gregory University? Gregory has never published a separate Chemical Engineering cut-off. It used 140 for all courses in 2024/2025 and 2025/2026, but JAMB’s 2026 university minimum is 150, so plan with at least 150 and aim for 180 or more.

Is Further Mathematics compulsory for Chemical Engineering at Gregory University? No. The general O’level line asks for English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other science subject. Further Mathematics only appears in other universities’ remarks.

Can I do Direct Entry into Chemical Engineering at Gregory University? Gregory advertised Direct Entry for 2026/2027, and the JAMB brochure asks for A-level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Ask the university about ND or HND entry, because the brochure says nothing about Gregory for diplomas.

Is Chemical Engineering at Gregory University accredited? I could not confirm its NUC or COREN status from published records. Ask the university in writing before you pay acceptance.
