OSISATECH Cut-Off Mark for Mass Communication 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

OSISATECH Mass Communication cut-off mark for 2027/2028: JAMB’s 100 minimum, a safe target, the UTME subject combination, O’level credits (Maths compulsory), screening, CAPS steps and the ND course.

The OSISATECH cut-off mark for Mass Communication is 100, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics, because Our Saviour Institute of Science and Technology, Enugu has not published a separate figure for the course. Mass Communication is on JAMB’s course list for OSISATECH, so you can select it on your JAMB form. It is one of the more popular ND courses at any polytechnic, so I would plan with a score well above 100.

2027/2028 update: OSISATECH cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Below are the official figures with sources, a safe target score, the UTME subjects and O’level credits JAMB lists for polytechnic Mass Communication, how OSISATECH admits ND students, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the two-year National Diploma covers.

OSISATECH Mass Communication cut-off mark: the official figures

OSISATECH’s admission page explains its O’level rule and says full-time ND applicants should write the UTME of that year, but it gives no minimum score for any course (osisat.edu.ng, last modified 10 February 2023). With nothing from the school, JAMB’s national floor applies. JAMB kept that floor at 100 for 2026/2027 (NAN, 11 May 2026), the same figure it set for 2025/2026 (Nairametrics, 8 July 2025).

OSISATECH has never published a departmental cut-off for Mass Communication. If a website quotes one, ask for the school notice it came from.

Safe target score (consultant advice)

I would aim for 150 or more. That is my planning number, not an OSISATECH figure. Mass Communication attracts many arts and social science candidates in Enugu, and it competes with IMT Enugu, which also lists the course. A score of 150 also keeps IMT and other public polytechnics open if you need to switch late.

UTME subject combination for Mass Communication at OSISATECH

JAMB’s polytechnic brochure entry for Mass Communication asks for any three subjects from Arts, Social Science or Physical Science, with Use of English compulsory for every candidate (brochure entry). The entry has remarks for many polytechnics, such as Yabatech and Auchi, that add Literature in English as a requirement. It has no remark for OSISATECH, so the open rule applies to you.

SubjectStatus
Use of EnglishCompulsory for every UTME candidate
Three subjects from Arts, Social Science or Physical ScienceYour choice; Literature, Government, Economics, CRS, History, Geography and physical sciences all qualify
Literature in EnglishNot required for OSISATECH, but a good choice

The combination I would sit is English, Literature in English, Government and Economics or English, Literature in English, Government and CRS. Literature is optional for OSISATECH, but several other polytechnics require it, so it keeps your backup options open. It also matches the reading and writing you will do in the course.

O’level requirements for OSISATECH Mass Communication

The brochure asks for credits in English Language and Mathematics plus three others from a list that includes History, Literature in English, Economics or Commerce, Fine Arts, Government, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Basic Electricity, Geography, Typewriting and Principles of Accounts. OSISATECH’s admission page sets the same base: five credits in not more than two sittings of WAEC, GCE, SSCE, NECO or NABTEB, including English Language and Mathematics.

RequirementDetail
Number of creditsFive
Compulsory creditsEnglish Language and Mathematics
Best three othersLiterature in English, Government and one of Economics, CRS or History
SittingsNot more than two
Exams acceptedWAEC, GCE, SSCE, NECO, NABTEB or equivalent

A pass in Mathematics will not do. The brochure lets Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) accept a Mathematics pass, but that concession is not written for OSISATECH.

Part-time ND, Direct Entry and HND

If you missed the UTME, OSISATECH says its part-time ND does not need it. NCE or ND holders can apply for year two, and HND entry needs an ND from an accredited polytechnic. JAMB’s brochure gives no Direct Entry rule for this course. An unofficial Schoolings list (published 2018, updated 2020) shows Mass Communication at both ND and HND level at OSISATECH; ask the school whether HND Mass Communication is admitting this year. Our OSISATECH HND guide has the general HND rules.

OSISATECH screening and a worked example

OSISATECH has not published a post-UTME test, screening fee or timetable for 2026/2027. Its admission page says forms are sold at the school, #1 Ogui Road, Enugu. Private polytechnics in Enugu usually screen with your UTME score and O’level result and sometimes a short interview, but OSISATECH has not described its own method, so ask at the admissions office when you buy the form.

Worked example (illustrative)

Adaeze scored 157 with English, Literature in English, Government and CRS. Her WAEC result, one sitting, reads English B3, Mathematics C6, Literature B2, Government C4, Economics C5. She clears JAMB’s 100 and my 150 target and holds both compulsory credits.

Many polytechnics rank ND applicants with a 50/50 mix of UTME and O’level. Using that only as an illustration: the UTME half is 157 ÷ 8 = 19.6. With A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5, her five grades give 8 + 5 + 9 + 7 + 6 = 35. Her illustrative total is 54.6 out of 100. OSISATECH has published no aggregate formula, so treat this as a way to compare yourself with other applicants.

Her weak spot is the C6 in Mathematics. It still counts as a credit, so she is eligible, but it is the grade most worth improving if she resits.

How to apply for Mass Communication at OSISATECH

  1. Create your JAMB profile: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line you will use for JAMB. The reply is your profile code.
  2. Choose OSISATECH and Mass Communication: JAMB lists the school as Our Saviour Institute of Science, Agric & Tech. If you registered for another school, use a JAMB change of institution.
  3. Write the UTME: full-time ND applicants must sit the UTME of that year, according to the OSISATECH admission page. Then check your JAMB result.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB accredited centre, and upload both results if you used two sittings. The school cannot recommend you on CAPS without them.
  5. Get the OSISATECH form: the admission page says forms are sold at the school, #1 Ogui Road, Enugu, and the school runs a student portal at osisatech.skool-board.com. No online application fee or screening date for 2026/2027 has been published, so pay only at the school or through a channel the school confirms in writing.
  6. Accept on CAPS: when OSISATECH recommends you and JAMB approves, accept the offer. JAMB’s 2026 rule is that an offer not accepted within four weeks can be withdrawn. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows each screen.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: print your JAMB admission letter, then pay the acceptance and school fees the polytechnic gives you, and ask for a receipt each time. OSISATECH has not published these amounts.

JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, so the current cycle runs until 31 December 2026. If you chose Mass Communication at another school and want OSISATECH instead, see JAMB change of course together with change of institution.

Warning

Every valid full-time ND admission at OSISATECH must show on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Do not pay anyone who promises a Mass Communication place outside CAPS.

Your chances of getting Mass Communication at OSISATECH

OSISATECH publishes no intake or applicant numbers, so this is my judgement. As a private polytechnic, it usually has more room than the public schools, but Mass Communication is one of its better-known courses. A first-choice candidate with 140 or more, credits in English and Mathematics in one sitting and a quick CAPS upload should be in a good position. Below 120, keep a backup ready.

What you study in ND Mass Communication

OSISATECH has not published its course outline. A polytechnic ND in Mass Communication follows NBTE’s national curriculum, and the usual pattern is:

  • News writing and reporting, editing and feature writing
  • Introduction to broadcasting, with radio and television production
  • Photojournalism and basic video work
  • Public relations and advertising
  • Media law and ethics
  • Communication research and a final project
  • English, entrepreneurship and other general ND courses

Between the first and second year you do SIWES, a few months of industrial attachment with a newspaper, radio or TV station, PR agency or the information unit of an organisation. Your ND is graded Distinction, Upper Credit, Lower Credit or Pass, and that grade decides HND entry.

Duration and accreditation

A full-time ND takes two years (four semesters). NBTE approved OSISATECH to admit ND students in December 1991, according to the school, and the school is S/No 101 in NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes as a private institution. Whether Mass Communication itself holds current NBTE accreditation at OSISATECH is not confirmed, because the directory’s programme tables could not be read. Ask the department for its NBTE accreditation letter before paying school fees.

Careers

  • Reporter, correspondent or sub-editor at newspapers and online news sites
  • Radio and TV presenting, production assistance and newsroom work
  • Public relations and corporate communication assistant
  • Advertising, social media and content work for businesses
  • HND in Mass Communication, or direct entry into a university degree, after the ND

Mistakes to avoid

  • Skipping Mathematics at O’level: a credit is compulsory even though the course is in the arts.
  • Planning with 100: it makes you eligible, nothing more, for a popular course.
  • Dropping Literature in the UTME without thinking: it is optional for OSISATECH but required at several other polytechnics you may need as backups.
  • Leaving your O’level off CAPS: the school cannot recommend you without it.
  • Ignoring the four-week acceptance window on CAPS.

OSISATECH Mass Communication cut-off mark: FAQs

What is the cut-off mark for Mass Communication in OSISATECH? OSISATECH has not published a Mass Communication figure, so JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100 applies. I suggest 150 or more to be competitive.

Is Literature in English compulsory for Mass Communication at OSISATECH? No. JAMB’s brochure lets you take any three Arts, Social Science or Physical Science subjects, and it has no OSISATECH remark requiring Literature. I would still take it because other polytechnics ask for it.

Can I use two sittings for OSISATECH Mass Communication? Yes. OSISATECH accepts five credits from not more than two sittings of WAEC, GCE, SSCE, NECO or NABTEB. Upload both results to CAPS.

Can I study Mass Communication at OSISATECH without JAMB? Full-time ND needs the UTME of that year. OSISATECH says its part-time ND does not, so ask whether Mass Communication runs part-time.

Sources and updates

OSISATECH’s founding dates, NBTE’s 1991 approval and the admission rules (five credits, two sittings, UTME for full-time ND, forms at Ogui Road) come from the school’s own admission page and about page (admission page last modified 10 February 2023). The JAMB course list is the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s list for the school (15 courses, checked 30 October 2026). The institution entry (S/No 101, private, 1989/1991) is from the NBTE 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes. UTME and O’level rules come from the JAMB polytechnic brochure entry for Mass Communication as reprinted by Myschool, which has no OSISATECH remark. The ND and HND listing for Mass Communication is from Schoolings (published 2018, modified 2020), an unofficial site. The 100 minimum, the 31 December 2026 polytechnic deadline, the four-week CAPS rule and the CAPS-only rule come from NAN (11 May 2026); the 2025/2026 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). Checked on 30 October 2026. We will update this page when OSISATECH publishes a 2027/2028 notice.
