The Lux Mundi University cut-off mark for Political Science is 150 in the UTME, the minimum JAMB set for all universities for 2026/2027 at its policy meeting of 11 May 2026. Lux Mundi has not published a separate departmental cut-off for Political Science, and it was not on the list of institutions that declared their own 2026 cut-offs at that meeting. So 150 is the floor, and the real question is how far above it you should aim.
2027/2028 update: Lux Mundi cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They are based on JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because Lux Mundi has not published its own course cut-offs. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Check this first. I could not confirm Political Science on JAMB’s course list for Lux Mundi, and I could not find an official Lux Mundi programme list either: the university’s website showed no readable content when I checked, and the JAMB brochure reprint on Myschool has no Lux Mundi page I could open. The course appears only on unofficial lists: Varsity.ng, nextschool.ng and universitycourses.ng, which gives the JAMB-style name “Political Science”. If you want Lux Mundi, open the JAMB e-brochure on your e-Facility profile and confirm that “Political Science” is listed under Lux Mundi University before you register or pay anything. If it is not there, look at the alternatives further down this page.
Below: the figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME subject combination and O’level rules from JAMB’s brochure, Direct Entry, how admission works at a new private university, a worked example, the CAPS steps, and what Political Science involves.

Does Lux Mundi University offer Political Science?
Probably, though nothing official confirms it yet. This is the record I found.
- Lux Mundi is a private university at New Ndagbo City, Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State. ThisDay reported on 18 January 2024 that it was running on a provisional NUC licence, with Prof. Gabriel Okenwa as founder, and that it took off with faculties of Management Sciences, Law and Arts/Social Sciences.
- The Guardian reported in October 2024 that Lux Mundi had signed a mentorship agreement with Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, under an NUC arrangement for new universities.
- The Council of Legal Education’s list of approved law faculties (August 2026) includes Lux Mundi University, Umuahia. That is the clearest official sign that the university is admitting students.
- Political Science appears on Varsity.ng’s 2025/2026 list of 13 Lux Mundi courses (under the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences) and on nextschool.ng. Neither cites a university document.
- Varsity.ng also lists Nursing for Lux Mundi, but Lux Mundi is not on the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s December 2025 list of approved schools. That is a good reason to treat aggregator course lists with care.
If you cannot confirm the course on JAMB’s list for Lux Mundi, these are the nearest options in Abia State that we cover:
- ABSU Political Science (public, Uturu)
- Clifford University Political Science (private, Owerrinta)
- Spiritan University Political Science (private, Nneochi)
- Rhema University Political Science (private, Aba)
Lux Mundi Political Science cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Official (11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Previous year’s national figure |
| 2025/2026 | 150 (course) and “160+” (header) | Varsity.ng listing | Unofficial |
| Any year | None | Lux Mundi departmental figure for Political Science | Never published |
Lux Mundi is only a few years old, so there is no history of departmental cut-offs to study. The 160 on Varsity.ng is not tied to any Lux Mundi notice. I mention it because some candidates see it and assume they are ineligible with 150 to 159; nothing official says so.
Safe target score for Political Science at Lux Mundi (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a Lux Mundi rule. New private universities usually have far fewer applicants than ABSU or UNN, so competition is lighter. The risk is different: an unpublished rule (a higher internal cut-off, or a test) that you only learn about after paying.
| Your UTME score | My read for Lux Mundi Political Science |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any university in 2026/2027 |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible on JAMB’s rule; ask the admissions office in writing whether they take this range |
| 160 to 179 | Reasonable, if your O’level grades are good and complete |
| 180 and above | Comfortable. This is the range I would aim for. |
For the 2027 UTME, aim for at least 180. A score that high also keeps a public university such as ABSU open to you, which matters if the Lux Mundi listing does not check out.
Lux Mundi Political Science subject combination and O’level requirements
Lux Mundi has not published course requirements, so these come from JAMB’s brochure as reprinted on Myschool (course name: Political Science). Confirm them on the JAMB e-brochure when you register.
| Requirement | Political Science (JAMB brochure) |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects (general rule) | Use of English plus Government or History and two other Social Science or Arts subjects |
| A combination I would use | Use of English, Government, Economics and Literature in English (or CRS or History) |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language, Government or History and three other subjects, with a pass in Mathematics |
| Exams accepted | WAEC (WASSCE), NECO and NABTEB, normally at not more than two sittings |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes including Government or History |
| Lux Mundi remark | None in the brochure |
The brochure page carries a long list of institution remarks (UNILORIN, AAU and UI are among them; AAU, for example, makes Government and Mathematics compulsory). Lux Mundi is not named in any of them, so the general rule applies.
Which subjects to pick
Government is the subject to anchor on. History is allowed, but Government is the subject most candidates actually sit at WAEC and NECO. Economics is a sensible second choice because it keeps Public Administration and Economics open to you if you change course later.
Points candidates get wrong
- Registering a subject combination that the general rule does not allow. JAMB checks it on CAPS, and a wrong combination blocks admission even with a high score.
- Leaving an O’level subject out of the five credits because it was “only a pass”. Read the O’level row above again.
- Not uploading O’level results to CAPS. Lux Mundi cannot admit you if CAPS shows no O’level record.
- Paying an agent who claims to sell Lux Mundi forms or a place on an admission list.
Direct Entry into Political Science at Lux Mundi
JAMB’s brochure rule for Direct Entry into Political Science is two A-level passes including Government or History. Holders of other qualifications (IJMB, JUPEB, ND or NCE) are accepted by some universities under their own remarks, but Lux Mundi has not published a Direct Entry rule, so ask the admissions office before you buy a JAMB Direct Entry form for it. Direct Entry candidates usually start at 200 level.
How Lux Mundi admits Political Science candidates
No Lux Mundi post-UTME notice, screening fee, aggregate formula or admission list for 2026/2027 appeared in any source I could verify. What applies in all cases is JAMB’s process: you must have at least 150, the right subjects and O’level results on CAPS, and the university must propose you on CAPS before you can accept. JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, so 2026/2027 offers for Lux Mundi have to be made on CAPS by that date. JAMB also warned that admissions outside CAPS are illegal.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Lux Mundi has not published a scoring method. Many Nigerian universities rank candidates by a 50/50 mix: UTME score divided by 8 (maximum 50) plus O’level grade points for the five relevant subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, maximum 50). I use that method here only to show how a candidate can check their own strength.
| Subject | Grade | Points |
|---|---|---|
| English Language | C4 | 7 |
| Mathematics | C6 | 5 |
| Government | A1 | 10 |
| Economics | B3 | 8 |
| Civic Education | B2 | 9 |
| O’level total | 39 |
A candidate with 204 in the UTME earns 204 ÷ 8 = 25.5 points. Add the O’level total of 39 and the aggregate is 64.5 out of 100. On this method each O’level grade step (B3 to C4, say) is worth 8 UTME marks, so an A1 instead of a C6 in a single subject is worth 40 UTME marks. Your O’level grades carry as much weight as your UTME score.
How to apply for Political Science at Lux Mundi, step by step
- Create your JAMB profile: send your NIN to 55019 or 66019 from your own phone line to get a profile code, then register for the UTME at an accredited centre.
- Choose Lux Mundi and the right course: pick Lux Mundi University and “Political Science” during registration, after checking the e-brochure. If you already registered elsewhere, see our guide to JAMB change of institution or change of course.
- Write the UTME and check your score: you need at least 150. Our guide on checking your JAMB result covers the next steps.
- Upload your O’level results to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC or NECO result is out, and check that every subject and grade shows correctly.
- Contact Lux Mundi for its own application or screening: use only official university channels. No 2026/2027 portal or fee was published in sources I could verify.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows each screen.
- Pay the acceptance fee and register: only after the offer shows on CAPS. Lux Mundi has not published its acceptance fee or a current fee schedule. At take-off in January 2024 the founder put the average fee at about ₦400,000 a session (WAWA News Global), but treat that as a guide only.
Warning
Free classified-ad sites carry many posts claiming to sell Lux Mundi University post-UTME forms, “batch” admission lists, JUPEB and part-time forms through personal phone numbers. None of them is an official Lux Mundi channel. A genuine admission always shows on your JAMB CAPS page; never pay anyone who cannot point you to it.
Studying Political Science at Lux Mundi
What you study
Lux Mundi has not published its Political Science curriculum. Nigerian universities teach this course to NUC’s Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards, so expect topics like these:
- Introduction to political science, political theory and the history of political thought
- Nigerian government and politics, federalism and constitutional development
- Comparative politics and political institutions
- International relations and foreign policy
- Public administration and public policy analysis
- Political economy, elections, parties and pressure groups
- Research methods, statistics for social sciences and a final-year project
Every student also takes the general studies (GST) courses, such as communication in English and entrepreneurship, alongside the departmental ones.
Accreditation
I found no NUC accreditation result for any Lux Mundi programme. NUC’s per-programme report pages returned nothing for Lux Mundi, and NUC’s 1990 to 2025 accreditation results publication could not be read beyond the C entries. That is normal for a university that started around 2024: NUC usually accredits a new programme once its first students are well into the degree. Until then the programme runs on the university’s approval to start. Ask the university which NUC approval covers this course.
Careers
Political Science graduates go into the civil service at federal, state and local levels, legislative aides’ offices, political parties and campaign teams, the Independent National Electoral Commission and other electoral work, journalism and public affairs, NGOs and policy think tanks, and teaching. It is also a common first degree for people who later study law or take a master’s in public policy or international relations.

Lux Mundi Political Science cut-off mark: FAQs
What is the Lux Mundi cut-off mark for Political Science for 2027/2028?
Plan with 150, the JAMB minimum for universities used for 2026/2027. Lux Mundi has not published a higher departmental figure for Political Science; I would aim for 180 or more.
Can I use awaiting result for Lux Mundi Political Science?
You can register for the UTME with awaiting result, but Lux Mundi cannot propose you on CAPS until your O’level result is out and uploaded. Upload it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as it is released.
Does Lux Mundi University write post-UTME?
No Lux Mundi post-UTME or screening notice for 2026/2027 appeared in any source I could verify. Ask the university directly and ignore forms sold through phone numbers on ad sites.
Can I study Political Science at Lux Mundi without History?
Yes. The JAMB brochure accepts Government or History, so Government alone is enough in both the UTME and O’level. Make sure Government is one of your O’level credits.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum and the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities are from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; News Central’s full list of institution cut-offs from that meeting does not include Lux Mundi. Subject and O’level rules are from JAMB’s brochure as reprinted by Myschool. The licence, location and take-off faculties are from ThisDay (18 January 2024), and the mentorship agreement from The Guardian. Law approval is from the Council of Legal Education’s August 2026 list. The course listing is from Varsity.ng, nextschool.ng and universitycourses.ng, which are not official; the take-off fee figure is from WAWA News Global (January 2024). Checked on 29 October 2026.
