The IMT Urban and Regional Planning cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has not published a departmental figure for Urban and Regional Planning, so 100 is the official floor you must reach before IMT will consider you.
2027/2028 update: IMT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Urban and Regional Planning is the one course in IMT’s School of Environmental Technology built around Geography. It is the fixed UTME subject, and it is also a compulsory O’level credit with Mathematics. Physics is not required, which surprises candidates who assume every environmental course needs it. JAMB’s brochure has no special IMT remark for this course, and IMT also runs it part time under the name Urban and Rural Planning. This page covers the official figures, the 120 IMT used in 2024, my safe target, the subject rules, screening, worked examples, the CAPS steps and the careers the course opens.
IMT Urban and Regional Planning cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics (applies to IMT) | 100 | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| IMT’s own cut-off for Urban and Regional Planning | Not published | No IMT departmental figure for 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 in any source I reached |
| My safe target score (advice) | 120 or higher; 140 is comfortable | Consultant advice, not an IMT rule |
| School at IMT | School of Environmental Technology | IMT Registrar notices, March 2024 |
| Level and award | National Diploma (ND), then HND | ND is the UTME entry point; HND listed in IMT’s HND notice |
| Duration | 2 years full-time for ND; part-time runs longer | NBTE standard ND length; IMT part-time page |
| UTME subjects | English, Geography and two other subjects from the course’s O’level list | JAMB brochure; no IMT remark |

IMT cut-off mark history for Urban and Regional Planning
IMT does not publish a separate cut-off mark for each ND course. What exists is the national floor that JAMB sets for every polytechnic, and one threshold IMT itself used in 2024.
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (NAN, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (Nairametrics and Channels TV, 8 July 2025) |
| 2023/2024 | 120 | IMT’s threshold for its advertised courses round, which listed Urban and Regional Planning | Official IMT Registrar notices, March 2024 |
The 120 comes from two notices the IMT Registrar posted on imt.edu.ng in March 2024. They invited candidates from the 2023/2024 UTME who had scored 120 or more and had not yet been admitted to apply for courses that still had places. All five courses in the School of Environmental Technology were on that list, Urban and Regional Planning included. No 2026/2027 IMT notice that I could open repeats the 120, so treat JAMB’s 100 as the floor and aim well above it.
Safe target score for Urban and Regional Planning at IMT (my advice)
IMT has never published a score band for Urban and Regional Planning. The bands below are my judgement from how environmental courses fill at state polytechnics in the South East, and from IMT’s 2024 notice that advertised spare Urban and Regional Planning places to candidates with 120 or more. Use them for planning only.
| Your UTME score | My read for Urban and Regional Planning at IMT |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any polytechnic, IMT included |
| 100 to 114 | Eligible to apply; credits in Geography and Mathematics matter most |
| 115 to 129 | Possible |
| 130 to 139 | Competitive |
| 140 and above | Strong for Urban and Regional Planning at IMT |
Few candidates pick Urban and Regional Planning as a first choice, and IMT still had places in 2023/2024 after the main round. In my reading it is one of the easier IMT courses to enter if your Geography and Mathematics credits are in place. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 120, ideally 140.
Catchment and state of origin
IMT is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its home catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. IMT has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for its ND courses. Your UTME score, the core O’level credits and getting your documents in early count for more than your state of origin.
IMT Urban and Regional Planning subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | Urban and Regional Planning (ND) at IMT |
|---|---|
| General UTME rule | Use of English, Geography and two other subjects from the course requirement list |
| IMT remark (UTME) | None in the brochure |
| Combinations I would use for IMT | English, Geography, Mathematics, Economics; English, Geography, Mathematics, Physics; or English, Geography, Economics, Biology |
| General O’level rule | Five credits in Mathematics, Geography and three of English Language, Economics or Commerce, Fine Art or Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Agricultural Science, History or Government, Business Methods or Book-keeping and Principles of Accounts |
| Basic science | One of the five credits must be a basic science |
| English Language | Credit compulsory |
| IMT remark (O’level) | None in the brochure |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE), at most two sittings |
| Direct Entry | Not used for ND. HND entry is with a relevant ND through IMT’s HND form |
The UTME rule gives you room after Geography. The “course requirement” list it points to is the O’level list in the same entry, so Mathematics, Economics, a science, Fine Art or Technical Drawing, or Government all fit. I would put Mathematics in. It is a compulsory O’level credit for the course, and planning involves surveying, statistics and map work. Economics is a good fourth subject because land use and housing questions come back to cost.
Watch the basic science credit. A candidate from an arts or commercial class can meet the Geography, Mathematics and English parts and still fail the O’level rule because no science subject shows a credit. Biology or Agricultural Science counts, as do Physics and Chemistry.
Direct Entry and HND
There is no Direct Entry into ND1, so every ND place goes through the UTME and CAPS. HND Urban and Regional Planning is on IMT’s own HND notice. That notice, from the 2019/2020 session, asked for a relevant ND with a CGPA of at least 2.50, or a lower CGPA backed by at least two years of verifiable industrial attachment, with a ₦5,000 form. Confirm the current terms on the portal. Our IMT HND admission requirements guide covers that route.
How IMT screens ND Urban and Regional Planning candidates
IMT’s website links a notice titled “Call for 2026/2027 admission into ND and HND programs (regular and part-time)”, and applications run through the SLMS application page on portal.imt.edu.ng. I could not open the 2026/2027 call itself, so the newest confirmed details on how IMT screens ND candidates come from its official 2023/2024 notices. Those notices said IMT would hold no post-UTME examination for its diploma programmes that session and would admit on verified JAMB scores plus O’level results uploaded to CAPS.
| Detail | What we know | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Who applies | Candidates who chose IMT in the UTME and scored at least the JAMB minimum | Standard JAMB rule |
| Where | portal.imt.edu.ng (SLMS Application) | Confirmed link on imt.edu.ng |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 in 2023/2024 | Official IMT notice, March 2024; confirm the 2026/2027 fee on the portal |
| Payment | Interswitch at a bank under Enugu State IGR, or by card through IMT’s Quickteller link | Official IMT notice, March 2024 |
| Screening method | No post-UTME for diploma programmes in 2023/2024; admission on verified JAMB score and O’level on CAPS | Official for 2023/2024; IMT has not published the 2026/2027 method |
| Part-time option | Listed as Urban and Rural Planning on IMT’s official part-time page, which says JAMB is not a strict requirement and the programme runs over six semesters | imt.edu.ng; confirm the current part-time form |
| Admission deadline for polytechnics | Runs until 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB, via NAN) |
| Time to accept an offer on CAPS | Four weeks | Official (JAMB, via NAN) |
Worked examples for Urban and Regional Planning applicants
IMT has not published an aggregate formula for ND admission. Some blogs print one, but none cites an IMT document. These examples measure the gap between a UTME score, the national floor and my safe target, then check the subjects against the brochure.
Take Kosisochukwu, who scored 122 in English, Geography, Mathematics and Economics. From one NECO sitting he has C5 in English, C6 in Mathematics, B3 in Geography, C4 in Economics, C5 in Biology and B3 in Civic Education.
- Eligibility: 122 minus 100 = 22. He is clear of JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
- Against my safe target: 122 minus 120 = 2. He is just inside my target band.
- UTME subjects: Geography is there, and Mathematics and Economics are both on the course list.
- O’level: Mathematics and Geography are the two fixed credits; English, Economics and Biology fill the other three, and Biology is his basic science. Civic Education is not on the list, so it does not count.
- What I would advise: keep Urban and Regional Planning at IMT, upload his results to CAPS early and accept quickly if offered.
Ifunanya scored 139 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. She has a good score, but Geography is the fixed UTME subject for this course, and IMT has no remark that waives it. CAPS cannot offer her Urban and Regional Planning at IMT. Her combination fits Building Technology at IMT, so if she wants an environmental course this session, a change of course is the fix.
How to apply for Urban and Regional Planning at IMT, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Confirm the course on IMT’s list: Urban and Regional Planning is on IMT’s course list in JAMB’s brochure as reprinted by Myschool. Open the IMT Enugu entry on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register and check it still shows.
- Register for the UTME: Choose Urban and Regional Planning, register English and Geography with two other subjects from the course list (I would use Mathematics and Economics), and pick IMT Enugu as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school first, a JAMB change of institution is possible before IMT closes its form, and a JAMB change of course fixes a wrong course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. IMT’s 2023/2024 notices made this upload part of the admission decision, and no school can recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Fill IMT’s application form: when the admission call appears on imt.edu.ng, open portal.imt.edu.ng, click Apply, fill the form, choose Interswitch to generate an invoice, pay and print the acknowledgement slip. Use an email address and phone number you check daily.
- Check your status: use the admission checker on the IMT portal, then log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and open CAPS.
- Accept within four weeks: JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept 2026 offers. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put IMT’s acceptance fee at ₦25,000, but IMT has not published it in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the IMT portal.
Warning
Every genuine IMT offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling an “IMT Urban and Regional Planning slot” or a place on a special list is outside the process. Pay fees only through invoices generated on portal.imt.edu.ng.
Your chances of getting Urban and Regional Planning at IMT
JAMB’s 100 only makes you eligible. For this course, the missing Geography paper in the UTME and the missing basic science credit at O’level cost more applicants a place than the score does.
IMT’s 2024 advertised courses notice listed Urban and Regional Planning with places still open after the main round, for candidates with 120 or more. A candidate in the 120s with Geography and complete documents has a fair chance, and anyone who misses the main list should watch imt.edu.ng for a similar notice.
If you already work in a planning office, a survey firm or a local government works department, the part-time route may suit you better. IMT lists Urban and Rural Planning on its part-time page and says JAMB is not a strict requirement there. Confirm the current terms on the portal before you pay.
Studying Urban and Regional Planning at IMT Enugu
Urban and Regional Planning is about deciding how land in towns and rural areas should be used: where houses, markets, roads, schools and open spaces go, and how to control building so a place stays livable. ND graduates prepare layouts and maps, collect survey data and help process building and development applications.
What you study
IMT has not put its Urban and Regional Planning course outline online, so the list below describes what ND Urban and Regional Planning generally covers in Nigerian polytechnics. Ask the department for its own outline at registration.
- Planning theory and history: how towns grow and why planning began.
- Site planning and layout design: drawing residential and commercial layouts.
- Cartography and map reading: producing and interpreting maps.
- Geographic information systems (GIS) basics: mapping data on computer.
- Land use, housing and transport planning: the main planning sectors.
- Planning law and development control: permits, setbacks and enforcement.
- Practical work: field surveys and a SIWES placement with a planning authority or consultancy.
Accreditation
At IMT’s Global Homecoming on 13 June 2026, the Rector, Prof. Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, said all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited, after more than 70% of programmes had lost accreditation by the time he took office in 2024. An NBTE accreditation team visited in November 2025. NBTE has not published a programme-by-programme result for Urban and Regional Planning at IMT that I could find, so its individual status is not confirmed. Town planners in Nigeria are registered by the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC), and the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners is the professional body. Check their entry routes for ND and HND holders directly. Ask the department to show the current accreditation letter during clearance if this matters to you.

Mistakes that cost Urban and Regional Planning applicants an IMT place
- Treating 100 as admission: it only makes you eligible to apply.
- No Geography in the UTME: it is the fixed subject, and IMT has no waiver.
- No basic science credit: one of the five O’level credits must be a science.
- No O’level upload on CAPS: IMT’s 2023/2024 notices admitted on JAMB score and uploaded O’level together.
- Buying a “slot”: offers come only through CAPS and the IMT portal.
IMT Urban and Regional Planning cut off mark: frequently asked questions
What is the IMT cut off mark for Urban and Regional Planning? It is 100, JAMB’s 2026 minimum for polytechnics. IMT has not published a separate figure for this course, so I would aim for 120 or more.
Is Geography compulsory for Urban and Regional Planning in IMT? Yes. Geography is the fixed UTME subject, and a credit in Geography is compulsory at O’level along with Mathematics and English.
Is Physics required for Urban and Regional Planning? No. Physics is one of the options, but any basic science credit meets the O’level rule, and the UTME only fixes Geography.
Can I study Urban and Regional Planning part time at IMT? Yes. IMT’s official part-time page lists it as Urban and Rural Planning. Check the current part-time form on portal.imt.edu.ng.
Sources and updates
The 100 minimum for polytechnics in 2026, the 31 December 2026 admission deadline and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum of 100 is from Nairametrics and Channels TV (8 July 2025). The UTME subjects, the O’level list and any IMT remark come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB polytechnic brochure entry for Urban and Regional Planning, and the course’s place on IMT’s list from Myschool’s IMT Enugu course list, both checked on 29 October 2026. The 120 threshold, the ₦2,000 form fee, the payment channels, the School of Environmental Technology course list and the no post-UTME rule for 2023/2024 are from IMT Registrar notices on imt.edu.ng dated 4 March 2024 and 22 March 2024. The HND entry rule is from IMT’s 2019/2020 HND notice. The part-time listing and the six-semester part-time length are from IMT’s part-time programmes page and its Part-time Studies page. The accreditation remarks are from BusinessDay (13 June 2026). The ₦25,000 acceptance fee is from blogs and is unofficial, and the safe target scores are my advice. This page will be updated when IMT publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
