The IMT Geological Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has not published a departmental figure for Geological Technology, so 100 is the official floor.
2027/2028 update: IMT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
There is one thing to settle before anything else. Geological Technology appears on IMT’s course list in JAMB’s brochure, but I could not find it anywhere else IMT publishes: it is missing from IMT’s programme list on Wikipedia, from IMT’s part-time page and from the reprinted IMT HND list. The department may still be running, but its current intake is not confirmed. Contact IMT’s admissions office and confirm that ND Geological Technology is admitting for your session before you pay for any form. The rest of this page gives the official figures, the subject rules from JAMB’s brochure, my safe target, screening, worked examples, the CAPS steps and where the course leads.
IMT Geological Technology cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics (applies to IMT) | 100 | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| IMT’s own cut-off for Geological Technology | Not published | No IMT departmental figure for 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 in any source I reached |
| My safe target score (advice) | 120 or higher; 140 is comfortable | Consultant advice, not an IMT rule |
| On IMT’s JAMB course list? | Yes | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s brochure, checked 29 October 2026 |
| Current intake at IMT | Not confirmed | Not on IMT’s part-time page, the HND reprint list or IMT’s Wikipedia programme list |
| Level and award | National Diploma (ND) | IMT HND in this course not seen in any list |
| Duration | 2 years full-time for ND | NBTE standard ND length |
| UTME subjects | English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| O’level | Five credits: Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and two more; English credit compulsory | JAMB brochure; no IMT remark |
Does IMT still run Geological Technology?
Here is what each source shows. I checked all of them on 29 October 2026.
| Source | Geological Technology listed? | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Myschool reprint of JAMB’s brochure, IMT Enugu course list (35 entries) | Yes, under Sciences | CAPS can offer it at IMT if IMT recommends candidates |
| IMT part-time programmes page (imt.edu.ng) | No | No part-time route in that list |
| Reprinted IMT HND notice (25 programmes) | No | No HND in Geological Technology seen at IMT |
| Wikipedia’s IMT programme list | No | Not among the programmes it names |
| NBTE curricula brochure, January 2026 | ND and HND Geological Technology curricula exist | The course is recognised nationally; this does not name IMT |
A course can stay on JAMB’s list after a school has stopped admitting into it, and it can also run quietly without appearing on a school’s website. I cannot tell which applies here. Because IMT’s Rector said in June 2026 that over 70% of programmes had lost accreditation by 2024 before the recent re-accreditation, I would not assume a small department is running without hearing it from IMT itself. A short visit or call to the admissions office, or a check of the course list inside the 2026/2027 admission notice, settles it.
IMT cut-off mark history for Geological Technology
IMT does not publish course-by-course cut-off marks for its ND programmes. The rows below are the national floor that binds every polytechnic, plus one older IMT figure that blogs still print under new headings.
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (NAN, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (Nairametrics and Channels TV, 8 July 2025) |
| 2023 UTME | 120 | IMT’s own ND screening threshold in a 2023 notice | Old; reprinted on blogs under 2026 headings |
The 120 comes from IMT’s 2023 ND screening notice, signed by the Registrar of the time. No 2026 IMT notice repeats it, so do not plan with it. The figure that has held for two sessions running is JAMB’s 100, and IMT is free to screen above it.
Safe target score for Geological Technology at IMT (my advice)
IMT has never published a score band for this course. The bands below are my judgement, and they assume IMT is admitting. Use them for planning only.
| Your UTME score | My read for Geological Technology at IMT |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any polytechnic, IMT included |
| 100 to 109 | Eligible to apply |
| 110 to 119 | Possible |
| 120 to 139 | Competitive |
| 140 and above | Strong for Geological Technology at IMT |
Geology courses at polytechnic level draw few first-choice applicants, so I expect the pressure to be low if IMT is admitting. For the 2027 UTME I would still aim for at least 120, ideally 140, because the same score keeps Chemical Engineering Technology and Science Laboratory Technology open as fallbacks.
Catchment and state of origin
IMT is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its home catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. IMT has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for its ND courses, so do not plan around a formula it has never announced. Your UTME score, your O’level grades in the core subjects and how early your documents are complete count for more.
IMT Geological Technology subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | Geological Technology (ND) at IMT |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics |
| IMT remark (UTME) | None in the brochure |
| O’level | Five credits: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, plus any two from Geography, Biology, Agricultural Science, Economics, Basic Electronics, Further Mathematics, English Language |
| Compulsory credit | English Language |
| IMT remark (O’level) | None in the brochure |
| Credits I would bring | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Geography |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE), at most two sittings |
| Direct Entry | Not used for ND |
This is one of the simplest entries in the brochure: the UTME combination is fixed at English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, with no options. A Biology, Chemistry and Physics candidate without Mathematics in the UTME does not qualify.
At O’level, English counts as one of your two extra subjects as well as being compulsory, so credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry give you four of five. Geography is the fifth subject I would pick: it is on the list and it is the school subject closest to geology. Further Mathematics or Biology also work.
Only two schools have their own remarks for this course in the brochure: The Polytechnic, Ibadan does not accept Agricultural Science, and a second polytechnic has its own O’level list. Neither applies to IMT, and IMT has no remark, so the general rule above is the one to follow.
How IMT screening works for ND Geological Technology
IMT’s website links a notice titled “Call for 2026/2027 admission into ND and HND programs (regular and part-time)”, and applications run through the SLMS application page on portal.imt.edu.ng. The admission result checker sits on the same portal. The 2026/2027 screening fee, dates and test format were not in any official source I could open, so the table keeps what is confirmed apart from what is only reported.
| Detail | What we know | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Who applies | Candidates who chose IMT in the UTME and scored at least the JAMB minimum | Standard JAMB rule |
| Where | portal.imt.edu.ng (SLMS Application) | Confirmed link on imt.edu.ng |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 in earlier years | Reported by blogs; not dated 2026, confirm on the portal |
| Payment | Interswitch, Enugu State IGR or Quickteller in earlier years | Reported; confirm on the portal |
| Format | Computer-based screening plus O’level upload in earlier years | Reported; IMT has not published the 2026/2027 format |
| Course offered this session? | Not confirmed | Ask IMT before paying; check the course list in the admission notice |
| Admission deadline for polytechnics | 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB, via NAN) |
| Time to accept an offer on CAPS | Four weeks | Official (JAMB, via NAN) |
Worked examples for Geological Technology applicants
IMT has not published an aggregate formula for ND admission. Some blogs print one, but none cites an IMT document, so these examples only measure the gap between a UTME score, the national floor and my safe target, then check the O’level against the brochure.
Take Kelechi, who scored 133 in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. From one WAEC sitting he has C5 in English, C4 in Mathematics, C6 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry and B2 in Geography.
- Confirm the course: before buying the IMT form he calls the admissions office and checks that Geological Technology is in the 2026/2027 ND list.
- Eligibility: 133 minus 100 = 33. He is clear of JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
- Against my safe target: 133 minus 120 = 13. He is in the competitive band.
- O’level: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry plus English and Geography make exactly five credits from one sitting.
- What I would advise: if IMT confirms the course, apply; if not, change course to Chemical Engineering Technology or Science Laboratory Technology at IMT, which his subjects can also fit.
Ngozi scored 118 in English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. She is 18 above the floor, but she has no Mathematics in the UTME, which Geological Technology requires. CAPS cannot offer her this course. Science Laboratory Technology at IMT accepts her combination, as I read the brochure, so that is the IMT course I would point her to.
How to apply for Geological Technology at IMT, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Check the IMT course list: during registration, open the IMT Enugu list on JAMB’s e-brochure and confirm Geological Technology still shows. Then ask IMT’s admissions office whether it is admitting this session.
- Register for the UTME: Choose Geological Technology with English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, and pick IMT Enugu as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school first, a JAMB change of institution is possible before IMT screening closes, and a JAMB change of course fixes a wrong course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. If your result was awaiting at registration, upload it as soon as it is out, because an institution cannot recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Fill IMT’s screening form: when the admission call appears on imt.edu.ng, apply on portal.imt.edu.ng, enter your JAMB registration number, pay through the channel the portal names and print your slip.
- Check your result and CAPS: use the result checker on the IMT portal, then log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and open CAPS.
- Accept within four weeks: JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept 2026 offers. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put IMT’s acceptance fee at ₦25,000, but IMT has not published it in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the IMT portal.
Warning
Do not pay for an IMT form, or pay anyone, for Geological Technology until IMT confirms the course is admitting this session. Every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and fees go only through invoices generated on portal.imt.edu.ng.
Your chances of getting Geological Technology at IMT
If IMT is admitting, a candidate with the right four UTME subjects, a score of 120 or more and clean O’level credits should be in a good position. The bigger risk is that the course is not running, so your first job is to confirm that.
Choose your UTME subjects with a fallback in mind. English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics also fits Chemical Engineering Technology at IMT, and with Physics and Chemistry credits you are close to the Science Laboratory Technology entry too. If Geological Technology turns out to be closed, a change of course keeps you at IMT.
Upload every O’level result to CAPS and make sure English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry all show as credits. Those four carry the most weight for this entry.
What Geological Technology covers and where it leads
Geological Technology trains technicians who support geologists in the field and in the laboratory. You learn to identify rocks and minerals, map an area, collect and prepare samples, and log boreholes and drill cores. Enugu grew up around coal mining, and the South East has limestone, lead and zinc, clays and water-borehole work, so the subject has local roots. NBTE’s January 2026 curricula brochure lists approved ND and HND curricula in Geological Technology.
What you study
IMT has not put a course outline for this programme online, so the list below describes what ND Geological Technology generally covers in Nigerian polytechnics. Ask the department for its own outline if you are admitted.
- Geology: mineralogy, petrology, structural geology and stratigraphy.
- Field methods: geological mapping, surveying, sampling and field reports.
- Laboratory work: thin sections, sample preparation and basic geochemical analysis.
- Applied topics: hydrogeology and boreholes, mining and quarrying, and an introduction to petroleum geology.
- Supporting courses: mathematics, physics, chemistry, computing and technical drawing.
- Practical work: SIWES placement with a mining, quarry, drilling or geotechnical firm, or a geological survey office.
Accreditation
At IMT’s Global Homecoming on 13 June 2026, the Rector, Prof. Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, said all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited, after more than 70% of programmes had lost accreditation by the time he took office in 2024. An NBTE accreditation team visited in November 2025. NBTE has not published a programme-by-programme result for Geological Technology at IMT that I could find, so its individual status is not confirmed. Because this course is missing from IMT’s other published lists, confirming its accreditation matters more than usual. Ask the department to show the current accreditation letter during clearance if this matters to you.

Mistakes that cost Geological Technology applicants
- Paying before confirming the course: its current intake at IMT is not confirmed.
- Treating 100 as admission: it only makes you eligible to apply.
- Planning with the old 120: that comes from a 2023 notice.
- Registering Biology instead of Mathematics: the UTME combination is fixed at English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
- Missing an English credit: the brochure makes it compulsory.
- Buying a “slot”: offers come only through CAPS and the IMT portal.

Sources and updates
The 100 minimum for polytechnics in 2026, the 31 December 2026 admission deadline for polytechnics and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum of 100 is from Nairametrics and Channels TV (8 July 2025). The UTME subjects, O’level list and remarks come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Geological Technology (polytechnic), and the course’s place on IMT’s list from Myschool’s IMT Enugu course list, both checked on 29 October 2026. The programme status checks used IMT’s part-time programmes page, Wikipedia and reprinted IMT HND notices, all on 29 October 2026. The national curricula are from NBTE’s January 2026 curricula brochure. The accreditation remarks are from BusinessDay (13 June 2026). The 120 figure is from a 2023 IMT notice reprinted by O3schools. The ₦2,000 screening fee and ₦25,000 acceptance fee come from blogs and are unofficial. The safe target scores are my advice. This page will be updated when IMT confirms whether Geological Technology is admitting, or publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
