Foundation Polytechnic, Ikot Ekpene has no official cut-off mark that I could verify. Blogs give two different figures: 120 for 2026/2027 and 130 for 2025/2026, and JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics is 100. Before the score, though, there is a more important question. NBTE lists the institution as Foundation College of Technology, an Innovation Enterprise Institution that awards National Innovation Diplomas, not as a polytechnic that awards the ND. I could not confirm NBTE approval for it to run ND or HND programmes.
2027/2028 update: Foundation Poly admission requirements and entry rules usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the details on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest information we could find: unofficial blog reports for 2026/2027 and JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because the school has published no official notice I could read. If a 2027/2028 notice or an NBTE update changes anything, we will update this page.
Here is the conflict in plain terms. NBTE’s 2020 Directory lists “Foundation College of Technology, Ikot Idem, Ikot Ekpene” as a private Innovation Enterprise Institution (IEI), serial number 48, established in 2013. The school now calls itself Foundation Polytechnic, runs the website foundationpoly.edu.ng, and Wikipedia describes it as a privately owned polytechnic on Ikot Idem Offikono Road, Ikot Ekpene. In November 2022, Myschool reported that Foundation Polytechnic had released its 2022/2023 admission list and uploaded it to JAMB CAPS. But I could not find it in NBTE’s 2025 schedule of institutions approved to upgrade to ND-awarding status, and I could not find a JAMB course list for it.

What an IEI is, and why it matters to you
Innovation Enterprise Institutions are private institutions regulated by NBTE that award the National Innovation Diploma (NID), a vocational qualification of its own. An NID is not the same as an ND. NBTE does let some IEIs upgrade to ND-awarding status, and it publishes schedules of the ones approved. If Foundation College of Technology has that approval for a course, the school should be able to show you the NBTE letter, and the course should appear on JAMB’s list for it.
This matters for three practical reasons. First, ND admission must go through JAMB CAPS; a course that JAMB does not list for the school cannot be offered through CAPS. Second, an ND from a programme NBTE has not approved can be refused when you apply for HND elsewhere. Third, NYSC and many employers check the awarding institution. None of this means the school is a fraud; it means you should check before you pay.
Foundation Poly cut-off mark: the figures and their sources
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official |
| 2026/2027 | 120 | Blog figure; also says first choice is not required | Unofficial (o3schools, 13 December 2025) |
| 2025/2026 | 130 | Blog figure; first choice | Unofficial (studentship.com.ng, 28 June 2025) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
The two blogs disagree, and neither quotes a school notice. If the school does admit ND students through JAMB, 100 is the legal floor and the school may set a higher one. I would plan on 120 or more, simply because both blog figures are at or above it.
Courses advertised by Foundation Poly
These lists are from blogs and Wikipedia, not from NBTE or JAMB, so treat each as unconfirmed.
| Source | What it lists |
|---|---|
| studentship.com.ng (28 June 2025), ND | Accountancy; Business Administration and Management; Public Administration; Science Laboratory Technology; Computer Science; Statistics; Electrical/Electronic Engineering; Computer Engineering |
| studentship.com.ng (28 June 2025), HND | Networking and Cloud Computing; Software and Web Development; Statistics; Computer Engineering; Electrical/Electronic Engineering (Electronics and Telecommunications) |
| Wikipedia, departments | Computer Software Engineering Technology; Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology; Management Technology; Networking and System Security; Petroleum Engineering Technology |
The Wikipedia department names look like NID programme titles, which fits the NBTE listing. The ND and HND names on the blog look like standard polytechnic courses. That mismatch is exactly what you should ask the school to explain.
Requirements the blogs report
- ND: five O’level credits including English and Mathematics; UTME 120 or 130 depending on the blog.
- HND: ND at Lower Credit with one year of industrial training, or Pass with two years (studentship.com.ng). This matches the standard NBTE rule.
- Process: online form at ₦2,000, screening on any working day with no exam, and an admission letter within 24 hours (o3schools). Forms also available at the Registrar’s office (studentship.com.ng).
- Portal: efacility.foundationpoly.edu.ng, used for the 2022/2023 admission list (Myschool, 5 November 2022).
An admission letter within 24 hours, with no exam, is fast for any institution. It also cannot replace a JAMB CAPS offer for an ND. If you go this way, make sure the offer later shows on your CAPS page.
Questions to ask before you pay
- NBTE approval: may I see the NBTE letter approving this institution to award the ND, and the accreditation for my course?
- JAMB listing: under what name does JAMB list you, and is my course on that list?
- CAPS: will my admission be offered and accepted on JAMB CAPS?
- Certificate: will my certificate say ND or NID, and from which institution?
- HND route: have your ND graduates been admitted to HND at other polytechnics?
Warning
Do not pay acceptance or school fees for an ND unless the offer appears on your JAMB CAPS page and the school can show NBTE approval for the course. JAMB has said that admissions outside CAPS are illegal.
If you still want to apply: step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Check the school on JAMB first: when you register, search for Foundation Polytechnic or Foundation College of Technology, Ikot Ekpene on the JAMB portal and confirm your course is listed under it. If it is not there, CAPS cannot admit you to it.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: use the JAMB e-brochure line for your course (the table below gives the usual polytechnic lines).
- Upload your O’level result to CAPS: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your result is out.
- Use the school’s own channels: the website is foundationpoly.edu.ng and blogs say forms are also sold at the Registrar’s office in Ikot Ekpene. Pay only through those, in your own name.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept only an offer that shows there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing and pay only through the channel the school names.

Sources and updates
The IEI listing is from NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes (Innovation Enterprise Institutions, serial number 48). The absence from the Akwa Ibom entries of NBTE’s 2025 Schedule II of institutions approved for upgrade to ND-awarding status is from our own check of that schedule. The school’s current name, website, address and chairman are from Wikipedia’s article and its citation of the school’s site. The 2022/2023 admission list and CAPS upload are from Myschool (5 November 2022). The 120 figure, ₦2,000 form and no-exam screening are from o3schools (13 December 2025); the 130 figure, course lists and HND rules are from studentship.com.ng (28 June 2025); both are unofficial. JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100 and the warning against admissions outside CAPS are from the News Agency of Nigeria report (11 May 2026). Checked on 3 November 2026.
