The ADSU cut off mark for Biochemistry is 170 in the UTME, and that is the figure to plan with for 2027/2028. Adamawa State University, Mubi published it in its official list of approved programme cut-off marks for the 2026/2027 session, signed for the Registrar by Admission Officer Dunfe S. Anjili. That is 20 marks above JAMB’s national minimum. Only Biochemistry, Microbiology and Computer Science sit at 170, the highest figure on ADSU’s list after Law. ADSU raised it from 160 in 2025/2026.
2027/2028 update: ADSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Biochemistry is one of ADSU’s most competitive science courses, and the cut-off went up this session. Below are the official figures for two sessions, a safe target score (my advice), the subjects and credits, how the 2026 screening ran, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the degree leads to.

ADSU Biochemistry cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 170 | ADSU programme cut-off | Official (signed by Dunfe S. Anjili for the Registrar) |
| 2025/2026 | 160 | ADSU programme cut-off | Official (signed by Angyatiya B. Atimi for the Registrar) |

ADSU raised Biochemistry from 160 to 170 for 2026/2027, putting it level with Microbiology and Computer Science. ADSU did not give a reason. A university usually raises a course’s cut-off when far more candidates above the old figure apply than the department can take, so expect the competition to stay high in 2027/2028.
Is 170 enough for Biochemistry at ADSU?
ADSU calls these figures cut-off marks, and in practice they work as the lowest score it will consider for the course. ADSU has not published the score of the last candidate admitted into Biochemistry, so nobody outside the admissions office knows how far above 170 the intake went.
Biochemistry attracts candidates who missed Medicine, Pharmacy or Nursing elsewhere, and ADSU has none of those three courses on its 2026/2027 list. That pushes many science candidates in Adamawa towards Biochemistry and Microbiology.
Safe target score for Biochemistry at ADSU (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. It is not an ADSU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Biochemistry at ADSU |
|---|---|
| Below 170 | Not eligible for Biochemistry (150 to 169 still qualifies for most other ADSU courses) |
| 170 to 184 | Eligible, but borderline |
| 185 to 204 | Possible with strong O’level grades |
| 205 to 224 | Competitive. This is the range I would aim for |
| 225 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 205. With strong credits in Chemistry, Biology and Physics, 205 to 225 puts you in a good position.
Catchment and indigene rules
The only catchment rule on ADSU’s 2026/2027 list is for Law, where Adamawa indigenes needed 230 and non-indigenes 260. Biochemistry has one figure, 170, for every candidate. ADSU has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for any other course, so do not plan around the federal 45/35/20 formula.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Biochemistry at ADSU
| Requirement | Biochemistry at ADSU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics |
| O’level | Five credits in English, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology (JAMB brochure). |
| Sittings | Not stated in the reprinted 2026 notice. Two sittings are widely accepted in Nigeria, but one sitting is safer. |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes chosen from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology. NCE, ND or HND holders in related fields may apply but must also meet the UTME requirements (JAMB brochure). |
| First choice | ADSU as first choice, or a JAMB change of institution to ADSU (2026 notice) |
Physics or Mathematics can be the third UTME subject, but the O’level list includes both, plus Biology and Chemistry. A candidate missing a Physics credit is short of JAMB’s list even if Physics was not in their UTME.
The subjects above are JAMB’s general requirements for Biochemistry from the brochure page as reprinted by Myschool. That page has no special remark for ADSU. Check the ADSU line on your own JAMB e-brochure before registration day.
How ADSU screening worked in 2026
ADSU’s 2026/2027 screening ran from Monday 15 June to 30 October 2026 and is now closed. The notice, as reprinted by Myschool and Androidpols, described an online screening exercise; no test was announced.

Worked example for a Biochemistry candidate
ADSU has not published an aggregate or ranking formula, and with no test there is no Post-UTME score to combine. What you can work out is the gap between your score, the 170 cut-off and a safe target. The candidates below are made up to show the arithmetic.
Take Martha, who scored 198 and has B2, B3, B3, C4 and C4 in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics from one sitting.
- Eligibility: 198 minus 170 = 28. She clears the Biochemistry cut-off by 28 marks.
- Against my safe target: 205 minus 198 = 7. She is 7 marks below the score I would call comfortable.
- O’level check: every subject JAMB lists for Biochemistry is a credit, from one sitting.
- What I would advise: she is within reach. I would keep Biochemistry, and if ADSU sends a CAPS transfer to Botany or Chemistry, she should weigh it before rejecting.
Ezra scored 165. That would have cleared ADSU’s 2025/2026 Biochemistry cut-off of 160, but 165 is 5 marks below the 2026/2027 figure of 170, so he is not eligible for Biochemistry. He does qualify for Botany, Chemistry and Zoology at 150.
How to apply for Biochemistry at ADSU, step by step
- Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Biochemistry with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics (or Mathematics), and make ADSU your first choice. If you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before ADSU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your result is out. JAMB admits through CAPS, so the upload has to include English, Mathematics and Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
- Fill the ADSU screening form: in 2026 ADSU told candidates to go to www.adsu.edu.ng, click on “post UTME” and fill in the required details. The fee was ₦2,000. Print the slip the portal gives you.
- Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng and open Check Admission Status. Accept the offer when it appears, or reject it if you have a better one.
- Print your JAMB admission letter: after accepting on CAPS, print it from the JAMB portal. ADSU will ask for it at clearance.
- Pay acceptance and clear: ADSU has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Confirm the amount on the ADSU portal and pay only through it.
Warning
ADSU’s 2026 screening was an online form with a ₦2,000 fee, and every genuine admission offer shows on JAMB CAPS. JAMB says admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. Do not pay anyone who promises a Biochemistry “slot” at ADSU.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed. If you applied for Biochemistry in 2026, check JAMB CAPS and the ADSU portal for your admission status. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each CAPS status.
Studying Biochemistry at ADSU
Biochemistry is the chemistry of living things: proteins, enzymes, metabolism, hormones and the molecules that carry genetic information. It feeds into medicine, pharmaceuticals, food and agriculture.
The course is in ADSU’s Faculty of Science and Computing, alongside Microbiology, Botany and Zoology.
What you study
- First-year chemistry, biology, physics and mathematics
- Organic and physical chemistry
- Enzymology and metabolism
- Molecular biology and genetics
- Nutritional and clinical biochemistry
- Laboratory techniques and a final-year research project
Degree, duration and accreditation
ADSU has not printed the degree title or length on its cut-off list; a B.Sc. over four years is usual for UTME entrants.
NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication lists ADSU Biochemistry with two Full results and 2029 as the date beside it.
Careers
- Quality control in pharmaceutical, food and beverage companies
- Research institutes and university laboratories
- Regulatory and product testing work
- Postgraduate study in biochemistry, pharmacology or molecular biology. A Biochemistry degree does not license you as a medical laboratory scientist; that needs a Medical Laboratory Science degree and MLSCN registration.

Mistakes that cost Biochemistry applicants an ADSU place
- Planning with last year’s 160: ADSU raised Biochemistry to 170 for 2026/2027.
- Treating 170 as an admission score: it is the lowest score ADSU will consider.
- No Mathematics credit: ADSU’s 2026 notice asked every candidate for credits in English and Mathematics.
- ADSU not first choice: the notice told other candidates to change their first choice to ADSU on the JAMB website.
- O’level missing on CAPS: without it, CAPS cannot process an offer.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: the acceptance fee and clearance at ADSU are separate steps.
If you are trying again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and JAMB change of course.
