ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Pharmacy 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

ESUT needs 220 in the UTME to screen for Pharmacy in 2027/2028 and publishes no merit score. Here are the subject combination, O’level and Direct Entry rules, screening terms, PCN listing, a worked example and a safe target.

The ESUT cut off mark for Pharmacy for 2026/2027 is 220 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology put Pharmacy in the 220 band of its official Post-UTME advert on 4 July 2026, alongside the new Doctor of Optometry and Doctor of Physiotherapy programmes. Only Medicine, Nursing and Law asked for more (240).

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

220 lets you apply. It does not tell you the score that wins a Pharmacy place, which is much higher and which ESUT does not publish. Blog figures near 293 float around, but none comes from an ESUT document. This guide sets out the official figures, the cut-off history, a safe target (my advice), the subject combination and O’level rules, how ESUT’s online screening works, the CAPS steps, and what PCN’s list says about the faculty.

The minimum UTME score (220) is a gate ESUT announces before screening. The merit score is the lowest score actually admitted into Pharmacy that year, and ESUT keeps it internal. With a fixed number of places, the merit score in a course like Pharmacy is usually far above the minimum.

Pharmacy cut-off history at ESUT

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027220Minimum UTME to apply (Pharmacy named)Official ESUT advert
2025/2026220Minimum UTME to apply (Pharmacy named)Previous year, from a blog summary of ESUT’s notice
2025 (as labelled)293Blog “cut-off” with no ESUT sourceUnofficial (Legit.ng, updated November 2025)

The official minimum has held at 220 for two sessions. The 293 figure is on Legit.ng’s list of ESUT “cut-off marks for all courses”. It cites no ESUT document, its scale is unclear, and it is not consistent with ESUT’s adverts, so I list it only so you know where it comes from. It may say something about how competitive Pharmacy is, but it is not a rule ESUT applies. Minimums can change each year, so check the new advert.

Safe target score for Pharmacy at ESUT (my advice)

This section is my advice, not ESUT’s rule. Only Medicine, Nursing and Law have a higher minimum at ESUT, and a professional degree whose intake is capped by a council-approved quota does not admit many students. I would plan on scoring well above 220.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Pharmacy
220 to 239Eligible for screening, but merit admission is unlikely.
240 to 259Possible with excellent O’level grades.
260 to 279A good chance.
280 and aboveComfortable. This is the range I would aim for.

For a 2027 attempt, my safe target for ESUT Pharmacy is 270 or more, with A or B grades in Chemistry, Biology and Physics. Chemistry is the subject Pharmacy leans on hardest, so start there.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. It is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from all states. The federal 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split has not been stated as ESUT policy. For a course this crowded, aim to get in on merit.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Pharmacy

RequirementPharmacy
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; many pharmacy schools prefer one sitting. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct EntryThree A’level passes in Chemistry, Biology or Zoology, and Physics or Mathematics, plus UTME requirements (JAMB general entry). ESUT has not published its own DE grades
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

These are the general requirements in the JAMB brochure entry for Pharmacy (Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026). The entry has special remarks for UI, UNILORIN, UNN, UNILAG, ABU, UNIPORT and a few others, but none for ESUT, so the general rule applies to ESUT unless JAMB’s current e-brochure says otherwise.

Notice that Direct Entry needs three A’level passes for Pharmacy, not two as in many other health courses. If you are going the JUPEB or A’level route, plan for Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

How ESUT screening works for Pharmacy

ESUT ran its 2026/2027 screening on these terms.

Admission statusPublished on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for a Pharmacy candidate

Take Kosisochukwu, who scored 258 in the 2026 UTME with A1, B2, B2, B3 and C4 in her five O’level subjects.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 258 minus the 220 minimum = 38 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 258 ÷ 8 = 32.25 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 10 + 9 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 43 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 32.25 + 43 = 75.25 out of 100.

Obinna scored 245 with A1, A1, A1, B2 and B2. His illustrative total is 30.63 + 48 = 78.63, ahead of Kosisochukwu with 13 fewer JAMB marks. Ranked on UTME alone, she is ahead. ESUT has not said how it ranks, so a Pharmacy candidate needs both a high UTME and clean O’level grades.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Pharmacy at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology and choose ESUT and Pharmacy. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Pharmacy, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

Myschool reported that ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer and told public universities to finish admissions by 31 October 2026. If ESUT offers you a different course, such as Applied Biochemistry or Microbiology, it shows on CAPS as a separate offer. Myschool also reported ESUT change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027 on 28 October 2026; I have not seen their terms.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Pharmacy at ESUT

Pharmacy is the only programme in ESUT’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani, and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria lists the university’s location as Agbani; ESUT has not said on the pages I checked which buildings the faculty uses. Nigerian pharmacy schools have been moving to the six-year Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) under NUC’s new curriculum. ESUT’s advert just says “Pharmacy”, so confirm whether your intake runs a B.Pharm. or Pharm.D, and how many years it takes, at clearance.

  • Pharmaceutical chemistry: how drugs are designed, made and analysed.
  • Pharmaceutics: turning a drug into tablets, syrups, injections and creams.
  • Pharmacology and toxicology: what drugs do in the body and when they harm.
  • Pharmacognosy: medicines from plants and natural products.
  • Clinical pharmacy and pharmacy practice: patient counselling, hospital and community practice, and pharmacy law.
  • Microbiology and biotechnology, plus a final-year project.

Accreditation: the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria’s list of accredited universities includes an entry for Agbani, Enugu State, under the name “Enugu State University of Technology”, which matches ESUT’s location. The list shows only names and locations, with no status, quota or year, and the page was last modified in 2024. NUC’s 2024 accreditation results reported by the Enugu State Government name other ESUT faculties, not Pharmaceutical Sciences. Ask the faculty for its current PCN status and approved quota before you accept, because PCN registration after graduation depends on it.

Career paths after Pharmacy

  • Community pharmacist, running or working in a registered retail pharmacy.
  • Hospital pharmacist in public and private hospitals.
  • Industrial pharmacist in drug manufacturing, quality control and production.
  • Regulatory work with agencies such as NAFDAC.
  • Marketing, research and teaching after postgraduate study.

Pharmacy graduates do a one-year internship and pass the PCN registration process before practising.

Mistakes Pharmacy applicants make

  • Believing 220 is enough: it is the floor for screening, and real competition runs far above it.
  • Trusting blog “cut-offs” as ESUT rules: figures like 293 have no ESUT document behind them.
  • Two A’level passes for Direct Entry: the brochure asks for three.
  • No Mathematics credit: it is required at O’level.
  • Paying acceptance before accepting on CAPS: CAPS acceptance comes first.

ESUT cut off mark for Pharmacy: frequently asked questions

Is 240 enough for Pharmacy in ESUT? 240 is 20 above ESUT’s 220 minimum, so you can be screened, but it is unlikely to be enough on merit without excellent O’level grades. I would aim for 270 or more.

Is ESUT Pharmacy accredited by PCN? PCN’s accredited universities list includes an Agbani, Enugu State entry named “Enugu State University of Technology”, which matches ESUT. The list shows no status or quota, so confirm the current details with the faculty.

Is ESUT Pharmacy 5 or 6 years? ESUT’s advert does not say. Nigerian pharmacy schools have been moving to the six-year Pharm.D, so confirm the degree and length for your intake at clearance.

Can I use awaiting result for ESUT Pharmacy? Yes for 2026/2027. ESUT accepted awaiting May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB results, but not results released after 30 September 2026.

The 2026/2027 minimum UTME scores per course, the screening rules (eligibility, change of institution, Direct Entry clearance, awaiting results up to 30 September 2026, compulsory O’level upload on CAPS, no test, ₦2,000 fee, 7 July to 15 August 2026 window, portal and payment steps) come from ESUT’s notice Post-UTME Screening for UTME/Direct Entry Candidates for 2026/2027 Admission, posted on 4 July 2026, and the full advert PDF signed by the Registrar, Ambrose G. Ugwu. The 2025/2026 per-course minimums are from DTW Tutorials’ summary of ESUT’s 2025/2026 screening notice (30 July 2025); I did not open the original notice. The release of the 2026/2027 admission list on CAPS on 13 October 2026 is from a Myschool report. ESUT’s faculty-level NUC accreditation is from the Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry requirements are the general JAMB brochure entry for Pharmacy as reprinted by Myschool; it carries no ESUT remark. The PCN entry is from the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria’s accredited universities page (checked 29 October 2026). The 293 figure is from Legit.ng’s “ESUT cut-off mark for all courses” (updated 14 November 2025) and is unofficial. The acceptance fee of about ₦26,000 is from education blogs (Legit.ng, O3schools, Backtoschool) and is unofficial. ESUT has not published an aggregate formula, a catchment list or a post-screening departmental cut-off, so none appears here as fact. This page was checked on 29 October 2026 and will be updated if ESUT releases new figures.
