MAU’s published minimum for Civil Engineering is 160 in the UTME, the score Modibbo Adama University, Yola (MAU, formerly MAUTECH) required for its 2026/2027 screening; JAMB’s national minimum is 150. The score is the smaller issue: NUC’s latest accreditation result for this programme is Denied, and you should settle that before you put MAU Civil Engineering on your JAMB form.
2027/2028 update: MAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from MAU’s latest screening notice (2026/2027), as reprinted by Myschool. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Read this before you choose MAU for Civil Engineering: the latest NUC accreditation result for MAU’s Civil Engineering programme is DENIED. That is the entry in NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026, and COREN separately reported in 2023 that its engineering accreditation expired in October 2020. The sections below explain what that means and give alternatives, then cover the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), MAU’s subject rules, the Direct Entry routes, the screening process, a worked example and the CAPS steps, for anyone who still applies once MAU confirms the course is admitting.
MAU Civil Engineering accreditation: NUC result is denied
NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, uploaded to the NUC website in September 2026, list every programme at MAU (under its old name, Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola) with its history of results. For Civil Engineering the row reads Full, Interim, Full, Interim and then Denied, with no maturity year after it. Every other engineering programme at MAU that we checked ends in Full.
Denied is the worst NUC result. In NUC practice, a programme with denied accreditation is generally not allowed to admit new students until it passes a fresh accreditation visit, and graduates of a programme without accreditation can face problems with NYSC, employers and professional registration. COREN had also reported in September 2023 that the programme’s COREN accreditation expired on 11 October 2020. We found nothing from MAU or NUC saying Civil Engineering has been re-accredited since.
What I would do instead
- Ask MAU first: before registering, ask the admissions office whether Civil Engineering is admitting in 2027/2028 and whether its NUC accreditation has been restored. Get the answer in writing.
- Pick an accredited MAU engineering course: Chemical Engineering (NUC Full, maturity 2028), Electrical/Electronics Engineering (Full, 2028), Mechanical Engineering (Full, 2028) or Agricultural Engineering (Full, 2026). They use the same UTME subjects. Ask about COREN for each, because COREN reported problems with them in 2023 too.
- Pick a related built environment course at MAU: Building (NUC Full, maturity 2030) or Surveying and Geo-Informatics (Full, 2028) are closest to civil work.
- Keep Civil Engineering but change university: choose a university whose Civil Engineering row on the NUC list ends in Full or Interim, then check COREN. Adamawa State University, Mubi has no engineering on its 2026/2027 admission list, so look outside Adamawa. Our JAMB change of institution guide explains how to switch.

MAU applied one figure, 160, to all courses in both sessions. It has not published the score of the last candidate admitted into Civil Engineering, and blog tables of MAUTECH “departmental cut-offs” do not cite an MAU document.
Safe target score for Civil Engineering at MAU (my advice)
This section is my judgement as an admissions adviser. MAU has not published a departmental cut-off for Civil Engineering, so none of these bands is an MAU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for MAU Civil Engineering |
|---|---|
| Below 160 | Not eligible to register for MAU screening |
| 160 to 189 | Eligible, but a place is uncertain |
| 190 to 209 | Possible with good O’level grades |
| 210 to 229 | Competitive |
| 230 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 210, ideally 220 or more, with good credits in Mathematics and Physics. These bands are my advice as an admissions adviser.
Catchment and state of origin
MAU is a federal university. Federal universities generally admit under a national guideline that splits places between merit, catchment area and educationally less developed states, and Adamawa and the neighbouring north eastern states fall in the less developed group. MAU itself has not published a catchment list or the split it used for 2026/2027, so treat your state of origin as a possible help, never as a guarantee. The indigene form on MAU’s screening form is where your state of origin is recorded.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MAU Civil Engineering
| Requirement | Civil Engineering at MAU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry (MAUTECH remark on the JAMB brochure) |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and one of Biology, Technical Drawing, Agricultural Science or a listed trade subject (MAUTECH remark) |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Sittings | At most two (MAU screening form) |
MAU’s UTME remark for Civil Engineering is Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. At O’level, it accepts Biology, Technical Drawing, Agricultural Science and some trade subjects as the fifth credit. Technical Drawing is the most useful choice if you have it, because the first year has a lot of drawing.
Direct Entry into Civil Engineering
MAU accepts GCE A level and IJMB passes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and an ND with an upper or lower credit in a relevant programme. The brochure also notes that MAU, with a few other universities, accepts an A level pass in Chemistry. A polytechnic Civil Engineering Technology diploma is the obvious relevant ND; ask MAU at which level it admits you.
How MAU screening works for Civil Engineering
For Civil Engineering, MAU’s 2026/2027 screening was online: register on the admissions portal, pay, enter your O’level results and upload your documents. The reprints mention no test for engineering; the only aptitude test reported in 2026 was for Medicine and Law.

Worked example for a Civil Engineering candidate
MAU has not published an aggregate formula, and without a test there is no Post-UTME score to combine. You can still measure the distance between your score, the 160 minimum and a safe target.
- Musa scored 224: 224 minus 160 = 64 above MAU’s minimum.
- Against my safe target: 224 is 4 above my ideal of 220.
- Subjects: English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, as MAU requires.
- O’level: credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing from two sittings. Two sittings are allowed.
Musa’s score is strong, but with the NUC result at Denied I would still tell him to get written confirmation from MAU first, or to use the same score for Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Asabe scored 192 with B3 in Mathematics and Physics. She is eligible and possible, and if MAU offers her a related course such as Surveying or Building through CAPS, she should weigh it rather than ignore it.
How to apply for Civil Engineering at MAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: pick Civil Engineering with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and put Modibbo Adama University, Yola as your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to JAMB: go to a JAMB accredited centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded so it shows on CAPS. MAU’s notice also asks you to upload it on the JAMB portal.
- Register for MAU screening: when the notice comes out, open the admissions portal from mau.edu.ng, verify your JAMB registration number, create an account and confirm your email.
- Pay and fill the form: generate a Remita RRR and pay (₦2,000 in 2025), then upload a passport photo (150 kb or less) and signature, enter your best five O’level subjects with the result checker details, add next of kin, and upload your O’level result, indigene form and birth certificate.
- Print your slip: print the acknowledgement slip and keep it for clearance.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept or reject the offer. JAMB gives four weeks to accept.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MAU has not published its acceptance fee in any source we reached, so pay only through the invoice on the MAU portal after your CAPS offer shows.
Warning
NUC’s latest accreditation result for MAU Civil Engineering is Denied (NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, September 2026). Do not choose or accept Civil Engineering at MAU until the university shows you, in writing, that the programme has regained NUC accreditation and is allowed to admit.
Myschool reported around 3 October 2026 that MAU’s 2026/2027 admission list was out on JAMB CAPS. JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed. If you applied this year, your CAPS page shows the final result. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
Studying Civil Engineering at MAU
Civil Engineering sits with MAU’s engineering departments (Wikipedia lists a Faculty of Engineering; we have not seen an MAU page confirming the structure). The degree is a B.Eng, which normally runs for five years in Nigeria and includes industrial training (SIWES). MAU’s main campus is at Girei, near Yola.
Accreditation: NUC and COREN
The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) decides whether an engineering degree leads to registration as an engineer. At a press briefing reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 16 September 2023, COREN named Modibbo Adama University, Yola among universities running engineering programmes without current accreditation. For Civil Engineering, COREN said accreditation expired on 11 October 2020. ThisDay repeated the warning on 5 April 2024, adding that the university had not responded to COREN’s request to seek accreditation and that it risked being blacklisted, which would stop its engineering graduates from registering. We found no later COREN statement about MAU, so the current position is not confirmed either way.
NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026, show MAU’s Civil Engineering row with earlier results of Full and Interim, and a latest result of Denied, with no maturity year. This is the result that matters most for you, and it is covered in full near the top of this page.

Mistakes that cost Civil Engineering applicants an MAU place
- Treating 160 as an admission score: it is only the minimum to register for screening.
- Taking Biology instead of Mathematics or Chemistry in the UTME: MAU wants Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
- A weak Mathematics or Physics credit: engineering first year is built on both.
- Not asking about COREN: accreditation affects whether you can register as an engineer.
- O’level not uploaded to JAMB: MAU asks for it on the JAMB portal and on its own form.
- Ignoring a transfer offer on CAPS: Building or Surveying may be offered if Civil is full.
If you are trying again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and JAMB change of institution.

Sources and updates
The 160 minimum and the 20 July to 31 August 2026 screening window come from Myschool’s reprint of MAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice (15 July 2026); we could not open the original on mau.edu.ng, so treat it as a reprint. The 2025/2026 figures, the ₦2,000 fee, the portal and the form steps come from Studentship’s reprint of MAU’s signed 2025/2026 notice. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules for Civil Engineering are from the JAMB brochure entry reprinted on Myschool, which carries MAUTECH’s own remarks; MAU appears there under its old name. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The admission list date is from Myschool (about 3 October 2026). The course list check uses Myschool’s list of JAMB courses for MAUTECH. NUC accreditation results are from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (published September 2026), where MAU is listed under its old name. COREN’s findings come from the News Agency of Nigeria report (16 September 2023) and ThisDay (5 April 2024). Checked on 3 November 2026. This page will be updated if MAU publishes a departmental cut-off or a 2027/2028 notice.
