MOUAU Cut-Off Mark for Biology Education 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

MOUAU’s minimum for Biology Education is 150 in the UTME with MOUAU first choice. See the JAMB subjects, O’level and Direct Entry rules, where the course sits at MOUAU, a safe target score, screening and CAPS steps for 2027/2028.

The MOUAU cut off mark for Biology Education is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. MOUAU set that one minimum for all its courses in the 2026/2027 screening notice and did not publish a separate figure for Biology Education.

2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Scoring 150 gets you into screening; your rank decides admission. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subjects and O’level rules, Direct Entry, where Biology Education sits inside MOUAU’s College of Education, how screening works, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

Biology Education does not have its own line on MOUAU’s main department list. The College of Education’s page lists it as a B.Sc (Ed) option of the Department of Science Education, which the main site calls Integrated Science Education. Neither page gives a cut-off for it, and the 150 applies.

Safe target score for Biology Education at MOUAU (my advice)

MOUAU does not publish the score of the last candidate admitted into each course, so this table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. It is not a MOUAU rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MOUAU Biology Education
Below 150Not eligible for any MOUAU course
150 to 164Eligible to register; admission depends on science grades
165 to 184Reasonable chance with science credits from one sitting
185 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 175, with credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics from one sitting. Biology Education often takes candidates who missed Microbiology, Biochemistry or health courses, so the pool can be stronger than you expect for an education course.

Catchment and merit

MOUAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MOUAU has not published its own split or a list of catchment states for 2026/2027. Do not count on catchment to rescue a weak score; your UTME result and your O’level grades from one sitting are the parts you control.

UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Biology Education

RequirementBiology Education at MOUAU
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology and two of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics (JAMB’s usual combination; confirm on the e-brochure)
O’level (general entry)Five credits in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one other subject
MOUAU remarkNone found on the Education and Biology entries
What I would presentEnglish, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, from one sitting
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB
SittingsMOUAU weights the number of sittings, so one sitting is safer
Awaiting resultsRegister for MOUAU screening only after your result is out

Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry Education and Biology gives the general O’level line clearly: five credits in English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one other subject. Its UTME section is blank in the reprint, and neither that entry nor the separate Biology Education entry carries a MOUAU remark. JAMB’s usual combination for Biology Education is Use of English, Biology and two of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics; confirm it on your JAMB e-brochure before you register.

I would take Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Universities on the same entry differ on whether Agricultural Science can be the fifth O’level subject (one says it cannot), so use Physics as your fifth credit if you have it.

Direct Entry

The general entry accepts NCE or A-level passes in Biology and one other science subject. Many universities on the entry specify an NCE at merit level, and some add diplomas in Biology Education. MOUAU has no remark on the entry and its 2026/2027 notice published no separate Direct Entry procedure, so NCE Biology holders should confirm their entry level and grade requirement with the College of Education.

Does the 2026 NCE exemption apply to this course?

No. At its policy meeting of 11 May 2026, JAMB exempted NCE programmes at colleges of education from the UTME. Nairametrics reported that the change starts with the 2027 admission cycle, while JAMB’s own NCE registration guide (June 2026) shows it already running in 2026. Either way it covers the NCE only. A degree in education at a university such as MOUAU still needs the UTME, MOUAU as first choice and the 150 minimum. The same JAMB guide also says colleges of education stop taking 100-level or 200-level degree students from 2026/2027, so candidates who wanted an affiliated degree at a college now have to look at universities like MOUAU or start with an NCE.

How MOUAU screening works for Biology Education

MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, was reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so treat these details as a faithful reprint and not the source document.

Nothing in the notice says MOUAU set a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I won’t tell you one was held. After you register, check the portal regularly; MOUAU said screening results and admission status would appear there.

Worked example for a Biology Education candidate

MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how UTME and O’level interact, here is an illustrative method many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not MOUAU’s formula.

  1. Nkechi scored 177 with B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, A1 in Biology, B3 in Chemistry and C4 in Physics from one sitting. UTME points: 177 ÷ 8 = 22.13. O’level points: 8 + 7 + 10 + 8 + 7 = 40. Illustrative total: 62.13.
  2. Ikenna scored 194 with C5 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C4 in Biology, C6 in Chemistry and C5 in Agricultural Science over two sittings. UTME points: 194 ÷ 8 = 24.25. O’level points: 6 + 5 + 7 + 5 + 6 = 29. Illustrative total: 53.25.
  3. The gap: 62.13 minus 53.25 = 8.88 points in Nkechi’s favour, although Ikenna scored 17 more in the UTME.

Ikenna would still be eligible, but in a ranked list his second sitting and C6 grades would push him down. For a Biology Education candidate, a strong Biology grade from one sitting is worth more than a few extra UTME marks.

How to apply for Biology Education at MOUAU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Biology Education at MOUAU with Use of English, Biology and two of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics (I suggest Biology, Chemistry and Physics), and make MOUAU your first choice. If you already registered for another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU weights your grades and sittings, so upload your best single sitting.
  4. Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, fill in your details and generate the Remita invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and the receipt.
  6. Check the portal for results: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there; no test date was published for 2026/2027.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Get the amount from your portal invoice and pay only through it.

Warning

Every genuine MOUAU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone selling a MOUAU “slot” is selling something that does not exist, so pay only through the MOUAU portal invoice.

For 2026/2027, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied, look at CAPS now instead of waiting for a printed list.

Studying Biology Education at MOUAU

MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, established by federal decree in November 1992. Its College of Education (COED) runs Biology Education as a B.Sc (Ed) option of the Department of Science Education, alongside Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Integrated Science and Computer Science Education. In an agriculture university, biology students are close to colleges working on crops, animals, soils and food.

What you study

  • Biology content: cell biology, genetics, botany, zoology, ecology, microbiology and physiology, taught to degree level.
  • Supporting sciences: chemistry and some physics and mathematics in the early years.
  • Education courses: educational psychology, curriculum, biology teaching methods, and measurement and evaluation.
  • Practice: laboratory and field work, a research project and supervised teaching practice in secondary schools.

Degree title, duration and accreditation

The College of Education’s page lists Biology among the B.Sc (Ed) options of its Department of Science Education, so B.Sc (Ed) Biology is the likely title, though the main university site does not list Biology Education separately. Education degrees in Nigeria usually run for four years through UTME, and MOUAU has not confirmed the duration in what I found. No NUC accreditation status for the programme appeared in the sources I checked, so I am not claiming one; ask the department before you accept an offer. Graduates who want to teach in Nigerian schools also need to register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) after graduation.

Careers

  • Teaching Biology in senior secondary schools and Basic Science in junior schools.
  • Laboratory and science department roles in schools and colleges.
  • Health, environmental and agricultural extension education with NGOs and government programmes.
  • Lecturing in colleges of education after postgraduate study.
  • Postgraduate study in science education or a biology specialisation.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus. If you are writing again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Mistakes that cost Biology Education applicants a MOUAU place

  • No Chemistry credit: the general O’level line names it.
  • Agricultural Science as the fifth credit: some universities reject it; Physics is safer.
  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it only gets you into screening.
  • MOUAU not first choice: required by the notice.
  • Looking for “Biology Education” on MOUAU’s main department list: it sits under Science Education, so check the course name on your JAMB form carefully.
  • Ignoring CAPS: your offer appears there first, and the four-week acceptance window is short.

MOUAU Biology Education cut off mark: frequently asked questions

What are the JAMB subjects for Biology Education at MOUAU? JAMB’s usual combination is Use of English, Biology and two of Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. MOUAU has no special remark on the entry, so Biology, Chemistry and Physics is a safe choice; confirm it on your e-brochure.

Is Chemistry compulsory for Biology Education at MOUAU? At O’level, yes. The general JAMB entry asks for credits in English, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and one other subject.

Is 170 enough for Biology Education in MOUAU? 170 clears the 150 minimum and falls in the band I call a reasonable chance. Strong Biology and Chemistry grades from one sitting will help most at that score.

Can I change from Microbiology to Biology Education at MOUAU? Yes, you can do a JAMB change of course if you meet Biology Education’s subject requirements. MOUAU may also offer a related course through CAPS; weigh it before you reject it.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the MOUAU first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal address, the awaiting-result rule and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The NCE exemption is from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by Nairametrics (11 May 2026) and from JAMB’s NCE and ND special registration guide (June 2026), which also ends degree admissions into colleges of education from 2026/2027. College and department names come from MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page (last modified 19 June 2026), and the Biology option comes from the College of Education’s own About COED page. The general O’level and Direct Entry lines come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry Education and Biology, which shows no UTME list and no MOUAU remark; the UTME combination given here is JAMB’s usual one for the course. TRCN registration is general knowledge about Nigerian teacher licensing. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. MOUAU’s fees, the degree title, the programme duration and the accreditation status were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if MOUAU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
