School of Midwifery Awgu admission requirements, going by the school’s last two published adverts, are simple: at least five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, a N10,000 entrance exam form paid at First Bank into the Enugu State IGR account, and success in the school’s entrance exam. Neither advert mentioned a JAMB score. The school, run by the Enugu State Ministry of Health, is now part of the Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences (Awgu campus), so the 2027/2028 intake may be advertised through the college instead.
2027/2028 update: School of Midwifery Awgu admission requirements and entrance exam process usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the rules on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice we could find (the 2024/2025 form advert). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) list dated December 2025 shows the School of Basic Midwifery, Awgu with full accreditation from February 2023. What I could not find is a 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 advert for the Awgu midwifery form. Treat the fee and dates below as the last known pattern, and confirm them with the school or the college before you pay anything.

Does School of Midwifery Awgu need JAMB? The cut-off mark question
The school has never published a departmental cut-off mark that I could find. Its 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 adverts asked only for O’level credits and the entrance exam fee. Neither one said a word about JAMB.
Two things make me cautious about telling you to skip JAMB. First, the school now sits inside the Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences. The college’s own 2024/2025 advert for ND/HND Nursing and Midwifery at its Parklane and Awgu campuses asked for 150 in the 2024 UTME. Second, JAMB’s national minimum for colleges of nursing is 150 for 2026, and JAMB has said admissions done outside its CAPS platform are illegal. If the Awgu midwifery intake moves fully under the college, a UTME score will very likely be part of it.
| Session | Awgu midwifery advert | Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences | JAMB minimum, colleges of nursing |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023/2024 | No UTME score mentioned | Not yet running | Not checked for this post |
| 2024/2025 | No UTME score mentioned | 150 (2024 UTME), ND/HND Nursing and Midwifery, Parklane and Awgu | Not checked for this post |
| 2025/2026 | No Awgu advert found | General Nursing (ND) advert for Parklane and Agbani; no score stated | 140 |
| 2026/2027 | No advert found | No advert found | 150 |
Safe target score (consultant advice)
This is my advice, not a school figure. Register for the 2027 UTME anyway and aim for 170 or more. If the school sticks to its old entrance-exam-only route, you have lost nothing. If the college admits Awgu midwifery students through JAMB, 150 is only the floor, and a score comfortably above it keeps you in the running while the entrance exam and interview decide the rest.
O’level requirements and UTME subject combination
| Requirement | What to have |
|---|---|
| O’level subjects | English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, all at credit |
| Number of credits | At least five (the five above) |
| Sittings | Not stated by the school; the Enugu State college accepted not more than two sittings for its 2024/2025 nursing and midwifery intake |
| Exams accepted | Not stated by the school; the college accepted WAEC, NECO or equivalent in 2024 |
| UTME subjects (if JAMB applies) | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics: JAMB’s usual combination for nursing and midwifery courses. The school has not published one, so confirm on the JAMB e-brochure |
The school lists Physics as compulsory, even though midwifery sounds like a Biology course. If you are missing that credit, sit the WAEC GCE or NECO external exam before the form comes out. For revision, our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus cover the same ground the entrance exam is likely to test.
Direct Entry and nurses who want midwifery
There is no Direct Entry route into basic midwifery. It is the school-leaver route. If you are already a registered nurse, you want a post-basic midwifery programme instead, such as the one at the UNTH School of Midwifery, which takes registered nurses only.
School of Midwifery Awgu form and entrance exam: past cycles
Here is what the last adverts said. The timing moved from October in one cycle to May in the next, which is why waiting for a fixed month is risky.
| Stage | 2023/2024 | 2024/2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Form sale began | 12 October 2023 | 6 May 2024 |
| Fee | N10,000 | N10,000 |
| How to pay | First Bank, “ENSG IGR PAY DIRECT”, revenue “ENTRANCE EXAM FEES” | First Bank, “ENSG IGR PAY DIRECT”, revenue “ENTRANCE EXAM FEES” |
| Where to get the form | The school, Awgu | The school, Awgu |
| Closing date | Not stated | Not stated |
| Exam date and venue | Not stated | Not stated |
For 2025/2026, the only Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences advert I found was for General Nursing (ND) at the Parklane and Agbani campuses: N20,000 paid at any commercial bank into the state IGR account, form collected at Parklane, and a post-UTME CBT on 30 and 31 July 2025 at the College ICT Centre, Colliery, Enugu. It did not mention Awgu or midwifery. I would watch both the Awgu school and the Parklane office from about April 2027, because either one could carry the 2027/2028 midwifery notice.
What the entrance exam is likely to cover
The school has not published its exam subjects. Schools of midwifery in the region usually test the five O’level subjects in the entry requirement (English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics), then interview the candidates who pass. Revise at WAEC level and expect questions on human reproduction, body systems and basic calculations.
Worked example (illustrative)
The school has not said how it ranks candidates. Suppose, only as an illustration, that it takes 50 students (its NMCN quota on the 2022 list) and ranks everyone by entrance exam score, then interviews the top group.
| Candidate | O’level | Entrance exam (100) | Likely outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chiamaka | Five credits, one sitting | 68 | Strong chance of an interview |
| Ebuka | Five credits, two sittings | 61 | In the running if the cut line falls near 60 |
| Nneka | Pass in Physics | 75 | Not eligible: Physics credit is compulsory |
Nneka has the best exam score and still cannot be admitted. Fix your O’level first, then prepare for the exam.
How to apply to School of Midwifery Awgu for 2027/2028
- Create your JAMB profile: send your NIN to 55019 or 66019 from your own line to get a profile code, then register for the 2027 UTME with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Our JAMB 2027 registration guide has the dates.
- Choose the college if it is listed: if Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences appears on the JAMB portal, pick it. If you need to switch later, see our JAMB change of institution guide.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited CBT centre, so your WAEC or NECO result is on your JAMB record.
- Watch for the advert: check with the school in Awgu and the college office at Parklane from about April 2027. Only trust a notice you can trace to the school, the college or the Enugu State Government.
- Pay at the bank: into the Enugu State IGR account named in the current notice (First Bank, “ENSG IGR PAY DIRECT”, revenue “ENTRANCE EXAM FEES” in 2024). Keep the printout and make photocopies.
- Collect and submit the form: in person at the place the notice names, with your printout, O’level result and passport photographs.
- Sit the entrance exam and interview: at the date and venue on your exam slip.
- Accept on CAPS if JAMB is used: when an offer appears, accept it on the JAMB portal. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows how. JAMB’s 2026/2027 admission window runs until 31 December 2026.
- Pay acceptance and school fees: only the amounts on your admission letter, into the state’s official account.
Scam warning
Listings titled “School of Basic Midwifery, Awgu 2026/2027” with a phone number for “nursing form” have been posted on dataset and forum sites. They are not from the school. Past adverts sold the form only at the school after a bank payment into the Enugu State IGR account. Never pay a private account or an agent.
Is School of Midwifery Awgu accredited by NMCN?
Yes. This matters because only students of an accredited school are indexed by the NMCN and allowed to sit the council’s licensing exam. Here is the record:
| Date | What happened | Source |
|---|---|---|
| September 2021 | School of Basic Midwifery, Awgu given provisional accreditation, quota 50 | NMCN list, August 2022 |
| February 2023 | School of Basic Midwifery, Awgu: full accreditation | NMCN list, December 2025 (entry 14.9) |
| June 2024 | State government announced that Awgu is accredited as a College of Nursing and that NMCN would index students | Enugu State Government, 13 June 2024 |
| July 2024 | Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences, Awgu and Parklane campuses: Nursing and Midwifery provisional | NMCN list, December 2025 (entry 14.7) |
| April 2025 | Awgu named a campus of the college; the 2024 intake matriculated; midwifery students indexed after a two-year delay | Enugu State Government, 10 April 2025 |
The NMCN says full accreditation lasts five years, so the February 2023 status for the midwifery school should run to about February 2028, which covers the 2027/2028 intake. The newer college entry is provisional, which the council says lasts two years. That ran to about July 2026, and I could not find the result of any re-visit. If your offer letter comes from the college rather than the School of Basic Midwifery, ask which NMCN approval your programme sits under.
Admission odds and advice
- The intake is small. The 2022 NMCN list gave Awgu a quota of 50 students a year, and the school has not published a newer figure.
- Get all five credits, ideally in one sitting. With so few places, a clean result helps at the interview.
- Write the UTME even if the advert does not ask for it. It keeps the college route open.
- Apply to a second midwifery school in the same season, for example NOHE College of Nursing Sciences Basic Midwifery.
- Buy the form early. Past adverts gave no closing date, so you cannot plan around one.
About basic midwifery at Awgu
Awgu is the headquarters of Awgu Local Government Area in Enugu State. The midwifery school is a state government school under the Ministry of Health. In April 2025 the Enugu State Government described the college it now belongs to as awarding OND, RN, RM and HND, with campuses at Parklane and Awgu and newer ones at Nsukka and Oji River.
What you study
- Anatomy and physiology, with a focus on the reproductive system.
- Care in pregnancy, labour and the period after birth.
- Care of the newborn and family planning.
- Basic nursing skills, pharmacology and community midwifery.
- Supervised clinical practice and deliveries in state hospitals and health centres.
This is the standard scope of basic midwifery training in Nigeria. The school has not published its own course list.
Duration and award
The adverts do not state how long the programme runs, so confirm the duration at admission. At the end, students who have been indexed by the NMCN sit the council’s licensing exam. Passing it leads to registration as a midwife (RM), which is the licence you need to practise.
Careers
- Midwife in government, mission and private hospitals and maternity homes.
- Primary health care and community midwifery work.
- Further training later, such as a nursing degree at a university nursing department.

Do I need JAMB to enter School of Basic Midwifery Awgu? The last two adverts did not ask for a UTME score. The Enugu State College of Nursing Sciences, which Awgu now belongs to, asked for 150 in 2024, so write the UTME to be safe.
