Maduka University Cut-Off Mark for Nursing Science 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Maduka’s 2026/2027 minimum is 150 for all courses, with no separate Nursing figure. Nursing is on the JAMB-style list, but Maduka is not on NMCN’s December 2025 approved list. Safe target, subjects, CAPS steps and fees.

The Maduka University cut off mark for Nursing Science is 150 in the UTME, the one minimum Maduka gave for all its programmes. Maduka’s 2026/2027 admission announcement, as reported by Myschool News on 15 May 2026, gives a single minimum of 150 in the UTME “as approved for the 2026/2027 Session”, which is also JAMB’s minimum for every Nigerian university this year. Maduka has no separate Nursing figure, and a Nursing candidate should aim well above 150, because Nursing is one of the courses where Maduka’s competition is strongest.

2027/2028 update: Maduka University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Nursing Science is on the JAMB-style course list for Maduka that I checked, and the JAMB course name to register is Nursing / Nursing Science. One point needs your attention before you pay anything: Maduka University does not appear on the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s December 2025 list of approved schools. The Enugu university nursing departments on that list are UNN (full), ESUT (provisional) and SUMAS Igbo-Eno (provisional). I explain below what that means and the questions to ask Maduka.

Campus Ninja prints “180 and above” for Maduka Nursing and a general cut-off of 140, but it describes its course figures as estimates and names no Maduka notice. The 140 is below JAMB’s 150 floor for universities, so it does not describe 2026/2027. I would not plan around either number. AndroidPols added that Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy and Law “may require higher academic standing” without giving a figure.

Safe target score for Maduka Nursing (my advice)

Maduka has not published its Nursing intake or the lowest score it admitted. This is my reading as an admissions adviser.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Maduka Nursing
Below 150Not eligible for any university in 2026/2027
150 to 179Eligible, but a weak position for Nursing
180 to 209Possible with good O’level grades in the five core subjects
210 to 239Competitive at Maduka
240 and aboveStrong. It also clears ESUT’s published Nursing minimum of 240

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 210. If you want UNN or ESUT as a backup, push for 240 and above.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Maduka Nursing

RequirementNursing Science
UTME subjectsUse of English, Chemistry, Biology, Physics
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics
SittingsMaduka has not published a rule; one sitting is safer
Direct EntryA-level passes in two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics; or a Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with five O’level credits including English and four sciences
Maduka-specific remarkNone in the JAMB brochure

These are the general requirements in the JAMB brochure entry for Nursing / Nursing Science (Myschool reprint). Physics is the subject Nursing candidates most often leave out. Keep it in your UTME and make sure you have a credit in it at O’level.

NMCN approval: what I found for Maduka Nursing

Nurses in Nigeria practise only after registering with the NMCN, and the council publishes the schools and university departments it has approved. I checked NMCN’s list of approved schools (December 2025). It does not contain the word Maduka, either among approved schools or in its separate list of 19 departments still under the accreditation process. The Enugu university nursing departments it lists are:

DepartmentNMCN statusSince
Department of Nursing Science, University of Nigeria, Enugu CampusFullApril 2018
Department of Nursing Sciences, ESUTProvisionalJuly 2024
Department of Nursing Sciences, SUMAS Igbo-EnoProvisionalAugust 2025
Maduka UniversityNot listedNone

Wikipedia says the NMCN approved Maduka’s nursing department, but the only source it cites is the NMCN’s general approved-schools page, and the December 2025 list itself has no Maduka entry. Approval may have come after December 2025, or the list may simply be behind. I could not confirm either.

So before you pay acceptance or tuition, ask Maduka two questions in writing: has the NMCN approved the B.N.Sc programme, and what admission quota did it give? A programme with approval and a quota is one whose students can be indexed and later sit the council’s examinations.

The first-session admission report

During Maduka’s first session (2023/2024), a news report alleged that Maduka had collected fees from over 400 nursing students without admitting them. Maduka’s management called the report false in an official statement published on TheCable. It said students pay school fees only after formal admission, that its Nursing department was running classes, and that anyone dealing with people who are not its authorised representatives does so at their own risk. The statement did not mention the NMCN. I include this so you know the background and use only official channels.

How Maduka screens Nursing applicants

Maduka has not published a Post-UTME test, an aggregate formula or screening dates for Nursing Science. None of the 2026/2027 reports mentions a written test. What they describe is an online application: you buy the form, enter your UTME and O’level details, choose a programme and print a slip. After that the university decides and sends its offer through JAMB CAPS. Direct Entry and inter-university transfer candidates are also accepted.

So for a Maduka applicant, the three things that carry weight are the ones you can control: a UTME score comfortably above 150, clean O’level credits in the right subjects, and a complete CAPS profile. If Maduka invites you for a test or interview, the invitation will come from the university directly; ignore anyone who asks for money to “process” it.

Worked example

There is no official Maduka aggregate, so this compares each score with the 150 minimum and my 210 target. It is an illustration.

  1. Ugochi scored 228: 228 minus 150 = 78 above the minimum, 18 above my target. With A and B grades in the five subjects, she is competitive.
  2. Emeka scored 171: 171 minus 150 = 21 above the minimum, 39 below my target. I would advise him to apply and also consider Maduka’s Medical Laboratory Science or Public Health if he is offered a change.
  3. Both: they should ask for the NMCN approval letter before paying acceptance.

How to apply to Maduka for Nursing Science

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN, then take the code to an accredited CBT centre.
  2. Register the right course: pick Nursing / Nursing Science with Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. If Maduka is not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the university starts processing admissions.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited centre, have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded so it shows on your CAPS profile. If you wrote two sittings, upload both.
  4. Apply on Maduka’s portal: blogs describe the steps as creating a profile, entering your UTME and O’level details, choosing your programme, paying the form fee (₦5,000 in the 2026/2027 reports) and printing the slip. The enquiry details in the university’s July 2026 press release point to admissions.madukauniversity.edu.ng.
  5. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept or reject an offer there; an offer that is not on CAPS is not a valid admission.
  6. Pay acceptance and register: the 2026/2027 reports put Maduka’s acceptance fee at ₦50,000, non-refundable, with tuition payable in two instalments on a 60/40 basis. Confirm the amounts on the portal before you pay, and print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.

Warning

Do not pay any “nursing slot” agent. Maduka’s management has said fees are paid only after formal admission, and every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Ask for written proof of NMCN approval before you pay tuition.

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). Public universities had 31 October 2026, and polytechnics and colleges of education have until 31 December 2026. Any Maduka offer for 2026/2027 has to be on CAPS before the private-university date.

If your UTME score falls short, Maduka also runs IJMB and Pre-Degree programmes (reported by Daily Post and summarised on Wikipedia). The 2026/2027 fee reports put its IJMB at ₦800,000 for two semesters, paid at once. IJMB A-level results are one of the routes into 200 level through Direct Entry at many Nigerian universities. Ask Maduka in writing which degree courses its IJMB students can move into before you pay.

Studying Nursing Science at Maduka University

Maduka University is a private university at Ekwegbe, on the Enugu to Nsukka road in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State. It was founded by Dr Samuel Maduka Onyishi, received its NUC licence in 2023 and began its first session in November 2023 with 611 students. The Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Charles Ogbulogo. The 2026/2027 announcement groups the health courses under a College of Medicine and Health Sciences, with Nursing Science and Pharmacy reported as separate faculties.

Maduka’s first NUC accreditation results came from an exercise in October to December 2025. According to the university’s press release on its NUC results (29 July 2026), seven programmes earned full accreditation: Accounting, Mass Communication, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Economics and International Relations, with scores between 84.8% and 97.0%, valid until 2030. No health programme was among them. New programmes are usually accredited once their first students reach the later years, so the absence is expected for a university this young.

What you study

  • Duration: the B.N.Sc normally runs for five years in Nigeria; Maduka has not stated its own.
  • Early years: basic sciences, anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and foundations of nursing.
  • Clinical years: medical-surgical nursing, maternal and child health, community health, mental health, with ward postings.
  • Licensing: NMCN indexing during training, professional examinations, induction, then internship.
  • Careers: hospital nursing, public health, nursing education and research, and specialist post-basic training.
  • Fees reported: ₦1,710,000 a session for 2026/2027, up from ₦1,100,000 in 2025/2026, payable 60/40; feeding is pay-as-you-eat. Confirm with the bursary.

For revision, see our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes Nursing applicants make with Maduka

  • Reading 150 as the Nursing score: it is the legal minimum for any university.
  • Skipping the NMCN check: ask for the approval letter and quota.
  • Leaving out Physics: it is in JAMB’s Nursing combination.
  • No O’level on CAPS: Maduka cannot admit you on CAPS without it.
  • Accepting an offer outside CAPS: JAMB treats admissions outside CAPS as illegal.

Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each CAPS status, and JAMB change of institution shows how to move Maduka up your list.

Sources and updates

The national minimum of 150 and the 30 November 2026 private-university deadline come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026), and News Central’s list of institution-declared cut-offs from the same meeting has no Maduka entry. Maduka’s 2026/2027 minimum of 150, its College of Medicine and Health Sciences and the 2026/2027 fees, form fee, acceptance fee and 60/40 instalments come from the university’s 2026/2027 admission announcement as reported by Myschool News (15 May 2026) and The Vent Republic (14 May 2026). I did not see the original notice, because the university’s own website could not be reached. Earlier figures are from AndroidPols (16 November 2025, 2025/2026 fees and 150) and AbsTechConnect (24 May 2026), and Maduka’s programme list by college is from Teezab (16 July 2026). The NUC results for seven programmes are from the university’s press release on its NUC results (29 July 2026). School background is from TheCable and Nairametrics (2023 and 2024), Daily Post (April 2025) and Wikipedia. The JAMB course-list check used universitycourses.ng (updated 1 March 2026) and Myschoolnews (19 July 2023); JAMB’s own Maduka page could not be opened. Subjects are from the JAMB brochure entry for Nursing / Nursing Science. NMCN status is from NMCN’s list of approved schools (December 2025). The first-session report and Maduka’s response are from the management’s official statement on TheCable. Campus Ninja’s 140 and 180 figures are unofficial. Checked on 30 October 2026; this page will be updated if Maduka publishes a Nursing cut-off or appears on an NMCN list.
