Akwa Ibom Poly Urban and Regional Planning Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

The cut off mark for Urban and Regional Planning at Akwa Ibom Poly is 100 in the UTME, the JAMB polytechnic minimum the school also used for 2026/2027; there is no separate departmental figure. Includes my safe target score, the subject combination, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The Akwa Ibom Poly Urban and Regional Planning cut off mark is 100 in the UTME. Urban and Regional Planning applicants fall under the general 2026/2027 ND cut-off that Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua set: “100 and above” in the 2026 UTME, in line with JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics. The school has not published a separate Urban and Regional Planning figure.

2027/2028 update: Akwa Ibom Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

You can choose Urban and Regional Planning because JAMB lists it for Akwa Ibom Poly. The school’s 2024/2025 course list included it too; the 2026/2027 notice reprint is cut off before reaching that part of the list. I have also added a safe target score and a worked example for Urban and Regional Planning, both marked as my advice.

Blogs put the school figure at 120 for 2024/2025. By the 2026/2027 notice it was “100 and above”, the same as JAMB’s national minimum. Nobody has published an Urban and Regional Planning figure, so anyone quoting one is guessing.

Safe target score for Urban and Regional Planning at Akwa Ibom Poly (my advice)

These bands are my own judgement as an admissions adviser, applied to Urban and Regional Planning. Akwa Ibom Poly has not set them, and the school does not publish merit lists with scores.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Urban and Regional Planning at Akwa Ibom Poly
Below 100Not eligible for any ND course this session
100 to 119Eligible with a fair chance
120 to 139Good chance; 120 is the score I would aim for
140 and aboveStrong

If you are writing the 2027 UTME for Urban and Regional Planning, I would aim for 120 or more. Pair it with clean credits in the O’level subjects below. The minimum only gets you screened, and the margin above it protects you when applicants outnumber places.

Catchment and state of origin

State polytechnics often favour indigenes in some way, and Akwa Ibom Poly is owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government. Even so, it has not published a catchment list or quota for 2026/2027, and it admits candidates from other states. I would not count on any state-of-origin effect for Urban and Regional Planning, or worry about one, unless the notice mentions it.

Akwa Ibom Poly Urban and Regional Planning subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Urban and Regional Planning
UTME subjectsUse of English, Geography and two other subjects from the course requirements
O’levelFive credits in Mathematics, Geography and three others from English Language, Economics/Commerce, Fine Art/Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology/Agricultural Science, History/Government and Business Methods/Bookkeeping and Principles of Accounts; one of the three must be a basic science
English LanguageThe brochure makes at least a credit in English Language compulsory
Brochure remark for Akwa Ibom PolyNone found
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (named in the school notice)
SittingsNot stated in the reprint; most polytechnics accept two sittings

What I would register for the UTME: English, Geography, Mathematics and Economics. Our JAMB Geography syllabus will help you plan your revision.

Your five credits should be built on the core subjects in the table (Mathematics, Geography and English Language for this course). If one slot is free, use it for a subject that helps Urban and Regional Planning. Then upload that exact result to JAMB CAPS and bring the same one to screening, so the grades match.

Direct Entry and the HND route

ND Urban and Regional Planning admission goes through the UTME and CAPS alone. There is no Direct Entry into the first year of an ND. After your ND and the one-year industrial attachment, the polytechnic takes HND applications directly, not through CAPS, and our guide to Akwa Ibom Poly HND admission requirements explains that route.

How Akwa Ibom Poly screening works

In June 2026 Akwa Ibom Poly published its 2026/2027 ND cut-off and screening fee. Screening for ND and HND applicants followed in September. I could not open the polytechnic’s own website, so I worked from Myschool’s reprints of the notices.

O’levelFive credits including English Language and Mathematics, from WAEC, NECO or NABTEBOfficial
Screening fee₦2,000Official
Screening datesWednesday 9 to Friday 11 September 2026, from 9:00 a.m. each dayOfficial; these dates have passed
FormatCandidates reported to their departments with their documents, including the WAEC or NECO statement of resultOfficial; no computer test was mentioned

2024/2025 (for comparison)A blog reported 120 and above, a ₦2,000 form and a 30 August 2024 closing dateUnofficial

A document check at department level is what the 2026 notice described. It said nothing about a written or computer test. In that kind of screening, two things usually separate candidates: the UTME score and the quality of the O’level result, which for Urban and Regional Planning means Mathematics, Geography and English Language. That is my reading; the school has not published its ranking method.

Worked example for an ND Urban and Regional Planning applicant

Take Itoro, who scored 121 in English, Geography, Mathematics and Economics, with credits in English, Mathematics, Geography, Biology and Economics from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 121 minus 100 = 21. Itoro is above the school minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 121 minus 120 = 1. That is inside the range I would aim for.
  3. O’level check: all five credits come from one sitting and cover the core subjects for Urban and Regional Planning, so nothing needs fixing there.
  4. CAPS check: Itoro still has to upload the same O’level result to JAMB CAPS, or no offer can be approved.

Suppose another Urban and Regional Planning applicant scored 110 and has identical O’level grades. With documents equally good, the higher UTME score is usually ahead, so Itoro at 121 would rank above them. This is illustrative only; the school has not published how it ranks applicants after screening.

Your chances of getting Urban and Regional Planning at Akwa Ibom Poly

  • Urban and Regional Planning usually has fewer applicants than the construction courses.
  • A Geography credit is the key; without it you cannot be admitted.
  • If CAPS offers you Surveying and Geo-Informatics or Estate Management instead, both are land courses.
  • Blogs reported several batches of ND lists at Akwa Ibom Poly in 2025/2026, so not appearing on the first one did not mean you were turned down.
  • JAMB gave polytechnics until 31 December 2026 to finish 2026/2027 admissions, so an Urban and Regional Planning offer can arrive late in the year.

How to apply for Urban and Regional Planning at Akwa Ibom Poly, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 using the phone line linked to that NIN.
  2. School and course: choose Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua and Urban and Regional Planning as JAMB lists it, using the subjects shown above.
  3. Check your institution choice: if Akwa Ibom Poly was not your choice, complete a JAMB change of institution ahead of screening. To move into this course from another one, see JAMB change of course.
  4. Get your O’level onto CAPS: go to a JAMB accredited centre and upload the result with your Mathematics, Geography and English Language credits. JAMB cannot approve an offer while CAPS shows no O’level result.
  5. Register for screening: check akwaibompoly.edu.ng until the notice appears. Then follow its application link, pay the fee (₦2,000 in 2026), fill the form and print the slip.
  6. Go to departmental screening: the 2026 exercise had candidates reporting to their departments from 9:00 a.m. with their documents. Take your slip, UTME result slip and WAEC or NECO statement of result; for Urban and Regional Planning, it should show your Mathematics, Geography and English Language credits.
  7. Accept on CAPS: go to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept it. The JAMB CAPS guide covers what each status means.
  8. Pay acceptance and do clearance: the acceptance fee has not been published in any source I reached. Only pay through an invoice generated on the school portal, then complete clearance using your printed JAMB admission letter.

Warning

Nobody can sell you a “special list” slot or a paid change of course at Akwa Ibom Poly. Admission comes through JAMB CAPS: a genuine offer shows on your CAPS page, and genuine payments go through a portal invoice in your name.

Studying Urban and Regional Planning at Akwa Ibom Poly

ND Urban and Regional Planning belongs to the School of Environmental Studies. The campus is at Ikot Osurua, off the Aba road near Ikot Ekpene in Akwa Ibom State. It trains planning technicians who help plan land use, layouts, roads and services in towns and rural areas.

What you study

These are the usual topics in the NBTE ND curriculum for Urban and Regional Planning. The department has not published its own course list online.

  • Introduction to planning and planning law
  • Planning drawing and graphics
  • Land use and site planning
  • Surveying and mapping basics
  • Urban and rural geography
  • Statistics, computing and general studies

Duration and accreditation

Akwa Ibom Poly has not published a timetable for Urban and Regional Planning, so plan with the national NBTE pattern. The ND takes two years full time, including a short SIWES attachment. An HND then needs the one-year industrial attachment and, usually, an ND with at least a Lower Credit.

Established in 1991, Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic is in the NBTE directory as a state polytechnic. ND Urban and Regional Planning is a separate question: I could not confirm its NBTE status, so ask the department or check the NBTE’s list of approved programmes before you pay fees.

Careers after the ND

  • Planning assistant in town planning authorities and ministries
  • Layout and development control officer
  • GIS and mapping assistant
  • Assistant with planning consultancies and estate developers
  • HND Urban and Regional Planning, then the path to registration as a town planner

Mistakes that cost Urban and Regional Planning applicants

  • No Geography in the UTME or O’level: it is compulsory in both.
  • No basic science among the extra credits: the brochure asks for one.
  • Forgetting the English credit: it is compulsory.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot approve an offer without it.
  • Missing the departmental screening: in 2026 it ran for three days only, 9 to 11 September.

Akwa Ibom Poly Urban and Regional Planning: frequently asked questions

Is Geography compulsory for Urban and Regional Planning at Akwa Ibom Poly? Yes. Geography is required in the UTME and as an O’level credit.

What are the JAMB subjects for Urban and Regional Planning? English, Geography and two other relevant subjects. Mathematics and Economics are safe choices.

When is Akwa Ibom Poly screening? The 2026/2027 round, for ND and HND candidates, ran from 9 to 11 September 2026 and is over. Urban and Regional Planning applicants for 2027/2028 will have to wait for new dates, which are not out yet.

Is 105 enough for Urban and Regional Planning at Akwa Ibom Poly? You are eligible, because 105 clears the 100 minimum. It is below the 120 I would aim for in Urban and Regional Planning, though, so your O’level result needs to be strong.

Sources and updates

The polytechnic minimum of 100 and the 31 December 2026 deadline for admissions come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum, also 100, is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), and Blueprint and AllAfrica reports match it. The location and founding date come from the NBTE directory and Wikipedia. The older figure of 120 (2024/2025) is unofficial; it comes from an allschool blog post. The school’s cut-off of “100 and above” and the ₦2,000 screening fee are from the school’s 2026/2027 notice (Myschool reprint, 27 June 2026). The screening dates, 9 to 11 September 2026, are from a Myschool report of 25 August 2026. Whether Urban and Regional Planning is on JAMB’s list was checked against the Myschool list of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic courses. Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s polytechnic brochure (ND Urban and Regional Planning brochure page) gives the UTME and O’level requirements. The safe target scores and the worked example are my advice, not figures from the school. I checked everything on 3 November 2026, and I will update this page when Akwa Ibom Poly publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
