The UNIUYO Special Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the same figure the University of Uyo set for every course in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening notice. Only candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice could apply. UNIUYO does not publish a separate cut-off for Special Education, and the score of the last person admitted is not released, so 150 gets you into screening and no further. My safe target score for Special Education at UNIUYO is 170.
2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Special Education trains teachers for learners with disabilities and special needs, from children who are deaf or blind to those with learning difficulties. At UNIUYO it is a B.Ed in the Department of Early Childhood and Special Education, and the NUC calls it Special Needs Education. Below are the official figures, my safe target, the subject rules, screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.
UNIUYO Special Education cut-off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| UNIUYO minimum UTME score (all courses) | 150, with UNIUYO as first choice | Official UNIUYO 2026/2027 notice |
| Published cut-off for Special Education | None | UNIUYO publishes no per-course figure |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Safe target score (my advice) | 170 | Consultant advice, not a UNIUYO rule |
| Name on JAMB’s UNIUYO list | Special Education | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s UNIUYO course list (3 Nov 2026) |
| UTME subjects | English and any three subjects | JAMB brochure general line; no UNIUYO remark |
| Faculty | Faculty of Education | UNIUYO 2026/2027 Basic Studies advert (May 2026) |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 via Remita | Fee from Myschool reprint; Remita from official notice |
UNIUYO Special Education cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME to apply for screening; UNIUYO first choice; same for all courses | Official UNIUYO notice |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Minimum UTME to apply for screening, first choice | Reported by a blog reprint (15 August 2025); original not seen |
| 2023/2024 supplementary | 140 | Minimum to move into a course that still had places; Special Education was on the list | Official UNIUYO supplementary notice (September 2023) |
UNIUYO’s minimum has been 150 for two sessions. The useful extra clue is the 2023/2024 supplementary exercise, when UNIUYO invited candidates with 140 or more who had missed their first course to move into programmes with spare places. Special Education was on that list, so it still had room after the main round. That is why my target for this course is modest.
Safe target score for Special Education at UNIUYO (my advice)
UNIUYO has not published a departmental figure for Special Education, so the bands below are my own judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a UNIUYO rule, and you should treat them as planning numbers.
| Your UTME score | My read for UNIUYO Special Education |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for UNIUYO screening |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level grades are clean and the subjects fit |
| 170 to 189 | Good chance. This is the range I would aim for |
| 190 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more. Special Education was on UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary list, and its UTME line accepts any three subjects. A score in the 170s with English and a Mathematics pass is a realistic plan.
UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Special Education
| Requirement | Special Education at UNIUYO |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus any three subjects |
| O’level (JAMB general) | Five credits including English Language |
| O’level (UNIUYO department page) | Five credits including English, and at least a pass in Mathematics |
| UNIUYO remark in the brochure | None |
| Direct Entry | JAMB: two A-level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects, or NCE merit in Arts or Social Science subjects. Department: NCE with at least merit in relevant subjects plus two A-level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects |
JAMB’s brochure is the rulebook, and Myschool reprints it. The Special Education entry, read on 3 November 2026, accepts Use of English plus any three subjects, and five O’level credits including English. It carries no UNIUYO remark.
UNIUYO’s department page adds that a pass in Mathematics is enough. Biology and Government are sensible UTME choices, since the course covers human development and disability policy.
Direct Entry into Special Education
JAMB accepts either two A-level passes or an NCE with merit in Arts or Social Science subjects. UNIUYO’s department page words it as NCE merit in relevant subjects plus two A-level passes, which is stricter. Ask the department which reading it applies before you rely on an NCE alone.
A note on timing for anyone also weighing a college of education. JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE candidates from the UTME (Nairametrics read it as starting with the 2027 cycle; JAMB’s own June 2026 NCE guide applied it in 2026), and colleges of education stopped admitting straight into degree programmes from 2026/2027. An NCE with merit remains a recognised Direct Entry route into UNIUYO’s Education degrees, so a three-year NCE followed by DE is a real alternative if your UTME score is low.
How UNIUYO screening works for Special Education applicants
Every UTME and Direct Entry applicant goes through the same UNIUYO screening exercise, whatever the course. This is what the 2026/2027 round looked like.
| Detail | UNIUYO 2026/2027 | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Who could apply | 2026 UTME candidates with UNIUYO as first choice and at least 150; DE candidates with UNIUYO as first choice on JAMB DE | Official notice |
| Fee | ₦2,000, non-refundable, paid with a Remita RRR | Amount from Myschool reprint (5 June 2026) and a blog; RRR method from official notice |
| Portal | admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng | Official notice |
| What you do online | Create and verify an account, generate an RRR and pay, fill the form, upload documents as PDF, print the screening slip | Official notice |
| Test format | Not published. The notice only says “screening exercise” | Official notice is silent |
| Closing date in 2026 | Friday 7 August 2026, according to a blog | Not on the official page |
| Aggregate formula | Not published | No UNIUYO source |
| Admission deadline | JAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities; that date has now passed | JAMB via NAN, 11 May 2026 |
Because UNIUYO is a public (federal) university, JAMB’s 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities applied to it, and that date has now passed. Supplementary or late admission lists can still show up on JAMB CAPS after the main window, so a 2026 candidate should keep checking CAPS rather than assume the year is over.
Worked example for a Special Education candidate
UNIUYO has not published an aggregate formula or a Post-UTME score scale, so I can’t show you an official calculation. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above the 150 minimum and how close it is to a safe target. The names below are made up.
- Candidate: Iquo scored 175 with C4 in English, D7 in Mathematics, B3 in Biology, C5 in Government and C4 in CRS from one sitting.
- Eligibility: 175 minus 150 = 25. Iquo clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 25 marks and can apply.
- Against my safe target: 175 minus 170 = 5. Iquo is 5 marks above my safe target.
- O’level check: five credits including English and a Mathematics pass, which matches UNIUYO’s department page.
- My advice: she is above my target and should keep Special Education first.
Samuel scored 152. 152 minus 150 = 2, so he is eligible but at the very bottom. On the 2023/2024 pattern he might still be considered in a supplementary round, but I would not count on it.
Admission odds and advice for UNIUYO Special Education
Special Education is a realistic course for candidates in the 160s and 170s at UNIUYO.
Trained special needs teachers are in short supply across Nigeria, and the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act of 2018 has pushed schools towards inclusive education. Graduates can work in special schools, inclusive mainstream schools and rehabilitation centres.
The course suits patient candidates. Expect to learn sign language, Braille or both, depending on the specialisation.
There is one more route worth knowing. UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies programme ran for one year, needed no JAMB score, cost ₦15,500 to apply, and used a CBT screening test. Candidates who passed could enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they met the course rules. The 2026/2027 registration closed on 30 September 2026, but the advert is the clearest picture of how the next round will work. Read it at uniuyo.edu.ng.
How to apply for Special Education at UNIUYO, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Special Education with English and any three subjects, and put UNIUYO as your first choice. UNIUYO’s screening notice was limited to first-choice candidates. If you got this wrong, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited centre so the results show on CAPS. Admission cannot be offered without them.
- Register for screening: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create and verify an account, generate a Remita RRR and pay ₦2,000.
- Complete the form: fill in your details, upload the documents as PDF files, and print your Screening Exercise Slip.
- Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. If UNIUYO offers you a place, accept it there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only on the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.

Mistakes that cost Special Education applicants a UNIUYO place
- Missing the English credit: every version of the rules requires it.
- Relying on NCE alone for DE: UNIUYO’s department page also mentions A-level passes; ask first.
- Putting UNIUYO second: the 2026/2027 screening notice only admitted first-choice candidates to the exercise.
- Reading 150 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply. Merit decides who gets in.
- Leaving O’level off CAPS: an offer can’t be made until your results are there.
- Paying agents for “slots”: genuine UNIUYO offers appear on JAMB CAPS, and payments go through the portal’s Remita RRR.
If you are planning for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on how to check your JAMB result.
