Akwa Ibom Poly HND Admission Requirements 2027/2028

Akwa Ibom Poly HND admission needs a related ND at Lower Credit or above, a one-year industrial attachment and five relevant O’level credits. See the 2026/2027 HND courses, the September screening and how to prepare for 2027/2028.

Akwa Ibom Poly HND admission requirements follow the national pattern: an ND in a related course, normally at Lower Credit or above, a one-year industrial attachment after the ND, and five O’level credits relevant to the course, including English Language and Mathematics. There is no UTME score or JAMB cut-off for HND. Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, published a 2026/2027 HND admission notice, reprinted by Myschool on 27 June 2026, and held ND and HND screening from 9 to 11 September 2026.

2027/2028 update: Akwa Ibom Poly HND admission requirements and the screening process usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the details on this page are what 2027/2028 applicants should plan with. They come from the latest notice we could find (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic is the state government’s polytechnic, established in 1991 and sited at Ikot Osurua, along Aba Road, Ikot Ekpene. Its name has not changed, and it is not the same school as Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, a private polytechnic in the Uyo area. The Myschool reprint of the HND notice lists the HND courses by school, but the list is cut off after the School of Communication Arts heading, and it does not show the form price or the full requirements. I mark below which details are from the notice and which follow the standard NBTE rule.

Who qualifies for HND at Akwa Ibom Poly

ND grade

NBTE’s standard rule asks for an ND at Lower Credit or above for direct HND entry. ND results are classed on a four-point scale. The bands below are the usual NBTE classes; check the CGPA printed on your own result.

ND classUsual CGPA bandHND position
Distinction3.50 to 4.00Qualifies
Upper Credit3.00 to 3.49Qualifies; strongest after Distinction
Lower Credit2.50 to 2.99Qualifies (the usual minimum)
Pass2.00 to 2.49Usually needs two years of relevant work experience; ask the admissions office

Industrial attachment year

After the ND, you need a one-year industrial attachment, often called IT. This is separate from the short SIWES placement you did during the ND. At the September 2026 screening, HND candidates were told to come with their documents, so keep the letter or certificate from the organisation where you did the attachment.

O’level credits

Five credits relevant to the HND course, in practice the same subjects that admitted you to the matching ND: English Language and Mathematics for almost every course, plus the science, business or technical subjects your field needs. If your ND entry was on the margin, for example a missing Physics credit for an engineering course, fix it before you apply.

Your ND should be in the same field as the HND you want. HND Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry and Environmental Biology all grow out of ND Science Laboratory Technology; HND Software and Web Development and Networking and Cloud Computing normally take ND Computer Science or Computer Engineering. If your ND is from another polytechnic, that is normally fine, but ask the department to be sure.

Akwa Ibom Poly HND courses for 2026/2027

The Myschool reprint of the 2026/2027 HND notice lists the courses below by school. The reprint stops at the School of Communication Arts heading without listing its courses, and it shows no Engineering HND list at all. That does not mean those schools have no HND; it means the reprint is incomplete.

SchoolHND courses in the reprint
Applied SciencesArtificial Intelligence; Biochemistry; Chemistry; Environmental Biology; Microbiology; Networking and Cloud Computing; Physics with Electronics; Software and Web Development; Statistics
Environmental StudiesArchitectural Technology; Building Technology; Estate Management and Valuation; Quantity Surveying; Surveying and Geo-Informatics; Urban and Regional Planning
Business and ManagementAccountancy; Business Administration and Management; Office Technology and Management
Communication ArtsNot shown (the reprint cuts off here)
EngineeringNot shown in the reprint

Artificial Intelligence, Networking and Cloud Computing, and Software and Web Development are newer HND titles. They are the kind of options a polytechnic adds after NBTE approves new curricula, so ask the School of Applied Sciences which ND courses feed into each and whether each is accredited. The National Innovation Diplomas the polytechnic runs, such as Paralegal Studies and Business Informatics, are a different qualification and are not HND programmes.

How to apply for Akwa Ibom Poly HND, step by step

The reprint does not show the portal steps, so these are the usual steps for a state polytechnic HND application. Follow the official notice when the 2027/2028 one is out.

  1. Watch for the notice: the 2026/2027 HND notice appeared in late June 2026. Expect the next one around the same time, and check the polytechnic’s own channels first.
  2. Get your documents ready early: your ND result or statement of result, IT letter, O’level results and birth certificate.
  3. Buy the form only through the polytechnic: pay through the channel the official notice names, in your own name.
  4. Fill the form carefully: your names must match your ND result and O’level exactly, and your HND choice should match your ND.
  5. Print your acknowledgement: you will need it at screening.
  6. Attend screening at your department: in 2026 this ran from 9 to 11 September at 9:00 a.m. daily, with candidates reporting to their departments with their documents.
  7. Check the admission list and accept: pay acceptance and complete clearance through the channel the school names. HND admission does not go through JAMB CAPS.

Warning

Nobody can sell you an Akwa Ibom Poly HND place, a list slot or a screening exemption. Pay only through the channel the polytechnic itself names, and keep every receipt.

Akwa Ibom Poly HND screening

Myschool reported on 25 August 2026 that screening for both ND and HND candidates would hold from Wednesday 9 to Friday 11 September 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m. each day. Candidates reported to their departments with their documents: WAEC or NECO statements of result for everyone, and the ND statement of result for HND candidates. The notice described document screening and mentioned no computer-based test. That screening has now taken place.

DocumentWhy it matters
ND result or statement of resultShows your class (Lower Credit or above) and was named in the 2026 screening notice
Industrial attachment letter or certificateProves the one-year IT after your ND
WAEC, NECO or NABTEB resultFive relevant credits; named in the 2026 screening notice
Acknowledgement slip and payment receiptProof that you applied and paid
Birth certificate or age declarationStandard for admission files
Local government identificationStandard for state institutions
Recent passport photographsFor your file and ID card

The list in the reprint was cut short, so the last four rows are the documents polytechnics normally ask for. Bring originals and photocopies.

How the ranking might work (illustration)

With document screening and no test, ranking most likely leans on your ND class. Akwa Ibom Poly has not published a formula, so this is my own illustration of how a department might order applicants for a crowded option.

ApplicantND class (CGPA)IT yearLikely position
Applicant AUpper Credit (3.25)Completed, letter in handStrong
Applicant BLower Credit (2.70)Completed, letter in handQualifies; depends on places
Applicant CLower Credit (2.80)No letterAt risk until the IT evidence is produced
Applicant DPass (2.30)One yearUsually short of the two-year rule for Pass holders

Your chances and my advice

  • Upper Credit or Distinction: you are in a strong position if your IT year and O’level are in order.
  • Lower Credit: you qualify. For popular options such as Accountancy, Microbiology and Software and Web Development, places can be tight, so apply early.
  • Pass: talk to the admissions office before paying; the usual rule wants two years of experience.
  • Courses not in the reprint: if your option is in Engineering or Communication Arts, ask the department directly, since those lists were not shown.
  • Timing: the 2026 notice came out in June and screening was in September. Get your IT letter and results ready before June 2027.

Accreditation

Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic is in NBTE’s 2020 Directory as a state polytechnic established in 1991. NBTE’s 2025 schedule of approved programmes also lists National Innovation Diplomas at the polytechnic. I could not confirm the accreditation status of each HND option, and that matters, because NYSC mobilisation depends on the HND programme being accredited. Ask the department, in writing if you can, before you pay acceptance and school fees, especially for the newer options.

HND admission does not go through JAMB, but ND admission does. If you or a sibling is still at that stage, our JAMB CAPS guide and JAMB change of institution guide cover the steps. For another HND option in the state, see the Federal Poly Ukana HND admission requirements.

Akwa Ibom Poly HND: frequently asked questions

Do I need JAMB for HND at Akwa Ibom Poly? No. HND admission uses your ND result, industrial attachment and the polytechnic’s own screening, not the UTME or CAPS.

Can I apply for HND at Akwa Ibom Poly with a Pass in ND? Under the standard NBTE rule, a Pass ND holder needs two years of relevant industrial experience instead of one. Ask the admissions office before you pay.

When is Akwa Ibom Poly HND screening? The 2026/2027 screening ran from 9 to 11 September 2026, at the departments, starting at 9:00 a.m. The 2027/2028 dates will come with the next notice.

Does Akwa Ibom Poly offer HND Software and Web Development? Yes, it is on the 2026/2027 HND list in the School of Applied Sciences, alongside Artificial Intelligence and Networking and Cloud Computing. Ask the school which ND courses qualify you for it.

Sources and updates

The 2026/2027 HND course list is from the Myschool reprint of the HND admission notice (27 June 2026), which is truncated after the School of Communication Arts heading. The ND cut-off of 100 and the ₦2,000 ND screening fee are from the Myschool reprint of the ND post-UTME notice (27 June 2026). The September 2026 screening dates, time and document rules are from Myschool (25 August 2026). The school’s establishment year, address and status are from Wikipedia and NBTE’s 2020 Directory and 2025 Schedule II. The ND class bands, the IT-year rule, the Pass-holder rule and the duration follow the standard NBTE pattern. The extra documents and the ranking illustration are my own advice. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated when Akwa Ibom Poly publishes its 2027/2028 HND notice.
