Fed Poly Ukana Mechanical Engineering Technology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

The Fed Poly Ukana Mechanical Engineering Technology cut off mark is 100, the JAMB polytechnic minimum that the school also used for 2026/2027, and no departmental figure is published. You also get a safe target score of 140, the subjects, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The Fed Poly Ukana Mechanical Engineering Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME. Every ND applicant, Mechanical Engineering Technology included, needed at least 100 in the 2026 UTME under the 2026/2027 screening notice from Federal Polytechnic, Ukana. JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics is the same 100. There is no separate Mechanical Engineering Technology cut-off.

2027/2028 update: Fed Poly Ukana cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Both JAMB’s course list for Fed Poly Ukana and the school’s 2025/2026 ND admission notice include Mechanical Engineering Technology. That makes it an established course you can choose on your UTME profile.

Fed Poly Ukana has never published a Mechanical Engineering Technology figure, so anyone quoting one is guessing. What exists is JAMB’s 100 for polytechnics in 2025 and 2026, which the school repeated in its 2026/2027 notice.

Safe target score for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Fed Poly Ukana (my advice)

The ranges below are my judgement for Mechanical Engineering Technology, not anything Fed Poly Ukana has published. The school does not release merit lists with scores.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ND Mechanical Engineering Technology at Fed Poly Ukana
Below 100Not eligible for any ND course this session
100 to 119Eligible, but borderline
120 to 139Fair to good chance
140 to 159Good chance; 140 is the score I would aim for
160 and aboveStrong

Set your 2027 UTME target at 140 or more and get clean credits in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. A minimum score only gets you screened. A higher score protects you when more people apply for Mechanical Engineering Technology than there are places.

Catchment and state of origin

The polytechnic is federal, so Mechanical Engineering Technology is open to candidates from every state. Federal schools usually allocate places across merit, catchment area and educationally less developed states, though Fed Poly Ukana has not published how it splits its ND places. Do not assume an automatic advantage if you are from Akwa Ibom, or a disadvantage if you are not.

Fed Poly Ukana Mechanical Engineering Technology subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Mechanical Engineering Technology
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, with Technical Drawing allowed in place of Physics (“Physics/Technical Drawing” in the brochure)
O’levelFive credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus any one of Biology/Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics/Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work, Woodwork, Further Mathematics, Geography and Economics/Commerce
English LanguageEnglish Language is one of the five credits
Brochure remark for Fed Poly UkanaNone found
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (named in the school notice)
SittingsNot more than two sittings (school notice)

For Mechanical Engineering Technology, I would register English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics. Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus will help you plan your revision.

You need five O’level credits, and for Mechanical Engineering Technology the core ones are Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. A free slot is best spent on a subject useful for the course. Whatever result you upload to JAMB CAPS, bring the same one at screening, so the grades match on both sides.

Direct Entry and the HND route

ND Mechanical Engineering Technology has no Direct Entry route into the first year; you come in through the UTME and CAPS only. The HND works differently. After the ND and the one-year industrial attachment, you apply to the polytechnic directly, not through CAPS, as our guide to Fed Poly Ukana HND admission requirements explains.

How Fed Poly Ukana screening works

August 2026 was when Fed Poly Ukana announced its 2026/2027 ND full-time screening. Because the school’s own website would not open for me, I used Myschool’s reprint of the notice. It cuts off partway through the documents to bring, so expect some gaps below.

Admission listsFirst batch out by 11 September 2026; third batch reported on 26 October 2026Myschool reports

Most of the 2026/2027 exercise is now about acceptance, since three batches have been released. Still waiting on Mechanical Engineering Technology after choosing Fed Poly Ukana in the 2026 UTME? Keep checking CAPS. JAMB’s 2026/2027 deadline for polytechnics is 31 December 2026, which leaves room for later batches.

Worked example for an ND Mechanical Engineering Technology applicant

Take Inyang, who scored 142 in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 142 minus 100 = 42. Inyang is above the school minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 142 minus 140 = 2. That is inside the range I would aim for.
  3. O’level check: the core subjects for Mechanical Engineering Technology are among the five credits, and all five come from one sitting.
  4. CAPS check: Inyang still has to upload the same O’level result to JAMB CAPS, or no offer can be approved.

Fed Poly Ukana has not published a ranking formula. Many polytechnics, though, mix the UTME score with a screening score, and a simple illustration shows what the UTME margin is worth: UTME score divided by 8 (out of 50), plus screening out of 50. On that basis, Inyang’s 142 is worth 17.75, and a screening score of 30 makes 47.75 out of 100. Someone on 110 with the same screening score would have 43.75.

Your chances of getting Mechanical Engineering Technology at Fed Poly Ukana

  • Mechanical Engineering Technology is popular but usually less crowded than Electrical or Computer Engineering.
  • A score in the 140s with good science credits gives you a solid chance.
  • If CAPS offers you Welding and Fabrication or Mechatronics instead, both build on the same workshop base.
  • If your name was not on the first Mechanical Engineering Technology list in 2026, that was not a rejection: Fed Poly Ukana released ND lists in batches.
  • Offers can come late in the year: JAMB asked polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026.

How to apply for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Fed Poly Ukana, step by step

  1. Get a profile code: on the phone line linked to your NIN, send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Federal Polytechnic, Ukana and Mechanical Engineering Technology exactly as JAMB names it, with the subject combination above.
  3. Upload the O’level result: a JAMB accredited centre does the upload. No offer can be approved by JAMB while CAPS shows no O’level result.
  4. Settle your choices early: a JAMB change of institution fixes things if Fed Poly Ukana was not your choice, and JAMB change of course explains how to move into Mechanical Engineering Technology from another course.
  5. Buy the screening form: the ₦2,000 form is on the ND application page of eportal.fedpolyukana.edu.ng. Pay, fill it in and print the slip.
  6. Attend screening: bring your slip, UTME result slip and original O’level result to whatever exercise the portal announces. For Mechanical Engineering Technology, check before you go that the original shows your Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry credits.
  7. Accept on CAPS: when Fed Poly Ukana offers you Mechanical Engineering Technology, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. If you are unsure what a status means, the JAMB CAPS guide explains it.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: the acceptance fee has not been published in any source I reached. Use only an invoice generated on the school portal for payment, then clear using your printed JAMB admission letter.

Warning

If someone asks for money to put you on a “special list” or to change your course to Mechanical Engineering Technology, refuse. Fed Poly Ukana admits through JAMB CAPS, so a real offer shows on your CAPS page and real payments use a portal invoice in your name.

Candidates who have not written the UTME yet should read when JAMB 2027 registration starts. For the results stage, see how to check your JAMB result.

Studying Mechanical Engineering Technology at Fed Poly Ukana

ND Mechanical Engineering Technology belongs to the School of Engineering Technology. The school is at Ukana, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The course trains technicians who design, make, run and repair machines, engines and plant equipment.

What you study

These are the topics the NBTE ND curriculum usually covers for Mechanical Engineering Technology. The department has not published its own course list online.

  • Engineering drawing and workshop technology
  • Applied mechanics and strength of materials
  • Thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • Machine tools, welding and fabrication basics
  • Automobile and plant maintenance
  • Engineering mathematics, computing and general studies

Duration and accreditation

Two years full time, including a short SIWES attachment, is the standard NBTE length for an ND. The HND comes after a one-year industrial attachment and usually needs an ND with at least a Lower Credit. Fed Poly Ukana has not published a Mechanical Engineering Technology timetable of its own, so plan with that national pattern.

I found no public record of NBTE approval for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Fed Poly Ukana. It was not among the eight ND programmes approved after the July 2022 resource inspection (The Will, 10 August 2022), though it may have been approved since. Ask the department about its status before you pay fees, because an unapproved course can cause problems later, such as when you apply for HND.

Careers after the ND

  • Maintenance technician in factories, oil and gas facilities and power plants
  • Automobile and heavy-duty plant technician
  • Production or workshop supervisor
  • Air-conditioning and refrigeration technician
  • HND Mechanical Engineering Technology, then COREN registration as a technologist (check current rules)

Mistakes that cost Mechanical Engineering Technology applicants

  • No Chemistry credit: it is required even though the course feels like Physics.
  • Not knowing about the Technical Drawing option: TD can replace Physics in the UTME, though Physics is still needed at O’level.
  • Ignoring workshop safety rules in year one: they are part of continuous assessment in most departments.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot approve an offer without it.
  • Paying anyone outside the eportal: the ₦2,000 form is paid on eportal.fedpolyukana.edu.ng.

Fed Poly Ukana Mechanical Engineering Technology: frequently asked questions

Can I use Technical Drawing instead of Physics for Mechanical Engineering at Fed Poly Ukana? In the UTME, yes: the brochure line reads “Physics/Technical Drawing”. At O’level you still need a credit in Physics.

What are the O’level requirements for Mechanical Engineering Technology? Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus one relevant subject such as Technical Drawing, Metal Work or Further Mathematics.

How much is the Fed Poly Ukana screening form? The 2026/2027 ND screening form was ₦2,000 on eportal.fedpolyukana.edu.ng. Until a 2027/2028 price comes out, plan with ₦2,000.

Is 125 enough for Mechanical Engineering Technology at Fed Poly Ukana? For eligibility, yes: the minimum is 100. For Mechanical Engineering Technology I would want 140 or more to feel safe, so with 125 put your effort into a strong O’level result.

Sources and updates

The 2026/2027 requirements set by Fed Poly Ukana (a minimum of 100, five credits in not more than two sittings, a ₦2,000 form paid on the eportal) are from the school’s screening notice reprinted by Myschool on 10 August 2026. The 2025/2026 course list comes from Myschool’s reprint of the ND notice for that year (18 July 2025). Dates for the admission lists are from Myschool’s reports of 11 September, 26 October and 31 October 2026. The Will (10 August 2022) reported the 2022 NBTE approvals, and the NBTE directory gives the location. JAMB’s course list here means the Myschool list of Fed Poly Ukana courses. For the figures that apply to every polytechnic, I went to the News Agency of Nigeria report about the 2026 JAMB policy meeting (11 May 2026): it gives the 100 minimum for polytechnics and the 31 December 2026 admission deadline. For the year before, the figure of 100 is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), with matching reports in Blueprint and AllAfrica. The Mechanical Engineering Technology UTME and O’level requirements are from JAMB’s polytechnic brochure in Myschool’s reprint (ND Mechanical Engineering Technology brochure page). Two things here are my own advice: the safe target scores and the worked example. I checked everything on 3 November 2026, and this page will be updated when Fed Poly Ukana publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
