UNIUYO Religious Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Requirements

UNIUYO’s cut-off mark for Religious Education (Education and Religious Studies on JAMB) is 150, first choice only. It holds full NUC accreditation. My safe target is 170.

The UNIUYO Religious Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the same figure the University of Uyo set for every course in its official 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening notice. Only candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice could apply. UNIUYO does not publish a separate cut-off for Religious Education, and the score of the last person admitted is not released, so 150 gets you into screening and no further. My safe target score for Religious Education at UNIUYO is 170.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Religious Education at UNIUYO trains teachers of religious studies, and it appears under a few names. UNIUYO’s May 2026 advert calls it Religion Education, the department page says B.A. (Ed) Religious Studies, the NUC’s report says Christian Religious Studies Education, and JAMB lists it as Education and Religious Studies. They are the same programme, run by the Department of Curriculum Studies, Educational Management and Planning. Below are the official figures, my safe target, the subject rules, screening, a worked example and the CAPS steps.

2023/2024 supplementary140Minimum to move into a course that still had places; Education and Religious Studies was on the listOfficial UNIUYO supplementary notice (September 2023)

UNIUYO’s minimum has been 150 for two sessions. The useful extra clue is the 2023/2024 supplementary exercise, when UNIUYO invited candidates with 140 or more who had missed their first course to move into programmes with spare places. Education and Religious Studies was on that list, so it still had room after the main round. That is why my target for this course is modest.

Safe target score for Religious Education at UNIUYO (my advice)

UNIUYO has not published a departmental figure for Religious Education, so the bands below are my own judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a UNIUYO rule, and you should treat them as planning numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Religious Education
Below 150Not eligible for UNIUYO screening
150 to 169Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level grades are clean and the subjects fit
170 to 189Good chance. This is the range I would aim for
190 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more. Education and Religious Studies was on UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary list, so it still had places after the main round. A score in the 170s with credits in English, Mathematics and CRS is a sound plan.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Religious Education

RequirementReligious Education at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English, two Arts subjects including Religious Studies (CRS or IRS), and one other subject
O’level (JAMB general)Five credits (or TC II merits) including English Language, Religious Studies and three other Arts subjects
O’level (UNIUYO department page)Credits including English Language, Mathematics and Religious Studies
UNIUYO remark in the brochureNone
Direct EntryJAMB: two A-level or NCE merit passes in Religious Studies and one other Arts subject. Department: two A-level passes plus three O’level subjects including English, or NCE merit in Religious Studies plus credits in three O’level subjects including English

JAMB’s brochure is the rulebook, and Myschool reprints it. The Education and Religious Studies entry, read on 3 November 2026, needs Religious Studies in the UTME. For most candidates that means CRS, plus another Arts subject such as Literature, Government or History.

The general O’level line does not mention Mathematics, but UNIUYO’s department page lists English, Mathematics and Religious Studies. Hold a Mathematics credit.

Direct Entry into Religious Education

The department accepts two A-level passes with three O’level subjects including English, or an NCE with merit in Religious Studies plus credits in three O’level subjects including English. JAMB’s line matches this.

A note on timing for anyone also weighing a college of education. JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting exempted NCE candidates from the UTME (Nairametrics read it as starting with the 2027 cycle; JAMB’s own June 2026 NCE guide applied it in 2026), and colleges of education stopped admitting straight into degree programmes from 2026/2027. An NCE with merit remains a recognised Direct Entry route into UNIUYO’s Education degrees, so a three-year NCE followed by DE is a real alternative if your UTME score is low.

How UNIUYO screening works for Religious Education applicants

Every UTME and Direct Entry applicant goes through the same UNIUYO screening exercise, whatever the course. This is what the 2026/2027 round looked like.

Admission deadlineJAMB set 31 October 2026 for public universities; that date has now passedJAMB via NAN, 11 May 2026

Because UNIUYO is a public (federal) university, JAMB’s 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities applied to it, and that date has now passed. Supplementary or late admission lists can still show up on JAMB CAPS after the main window, so a 2026 candidate should keep checking CAPS rather than assume the year is over.

Worked example for a Religious Education candidate

UNIUYO has not published an aggregate formula or a Post-UTME score scale, so I can’t show you an official calculation. What you can measure is how far your UTME score sits above the 150 minimum and how close it is to a safe target. The names below are made up.

  1. Candidate: Ini scored 176 with B2 in English, C5 in Mathematics, A1 in CRS, B3 in Literature in English and C4 in Government from one sitting.
  2. Eligibility: 176 minus 150 = 26. Ini clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 26 marks and can apply.
  3. Against my safe target: 176 minus 170 = 6. Ini is 6 marks above my safe target.
  4. O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics and CRS plus Arts subjects, matching both JAMB and the department.
  5. My advice: she is above my target and should keep the course as her first choice.

Godwin scored 161 with C6 in CRS but D7 in Mathematics. 161 minus 150 = 11, so he is eligible on score, but the department lists Mathematics. He should resit it.

Admission odds and advice for UNIUYO Religious Education

Religious Education is a realistic course for candidates scoring in the 160s and 170s, on the 2023/2024 supplementary evidence.

The NUC’s report names the programme Christian Religious Studies Education. If you are a Muslim candidate hoping to teach Islamic Studies, ask the department whether IRS is covered before you accept.

UNIUYO’s Faculty of Arts runs Religious and Cultural Studies if you want the subject without the teaching qualification.

There is one more route worth knowing. UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies programme ran for one year, needed no JAMB score, cost ₦15,500 to apply, and used a CBT screening test. Candidates who passed could enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they met the course rules. The 2026/2027 registration closed on 30 September 2026, but the advert is the clearest picture of how the next round will work. Read it at uniuyo.edu.ng.

How to apply for Religious Education at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Education and Religious Studies with English, Religious Studies (CRS or IRS), one other Arts subject and one other subject, and put UNIUYO as your first choice. UNIUYO’s screening notice was limited to first-choice candidates. If you got this wrong, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited centre so the results show on CAPS. Admission cannot be offered without them.
  4. Register for screening: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create and verify an account, generate a Remita RRR and pay ₦2,000.
  5. Complete the form: fill in your details, upload the documents as PDF files, and print your Screening Exercise Slip.
  6. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. If UNIUYO offers you a place, accept it there. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in any official source I reached. Pay only on the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.

Studying Religious Education at UNIUYO

The NUC’s published accreditation report for UNIUYO’s Christian Religious Studies Education programme gives it Full status with a score of 93.58%, after a visit in December 2024 (NUC report). That is one of the highest scores among the UNIUYO reports I opened.

Mistakes that cost Religious Education applicants a UNIUYO place

  • Searching CAPS for “Religious Education”: JAMB lists it as Education and Religious Studies.
  • No Mathematics credit: UNIUYO’s department page asks for it.
  • Putting UNIUYO second: the 2026/2027 screening notice only admitted first-choice candidates to the exercise.
  • Reading 150 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply. Merit decides who gets in.
  • Leaving O’level off CAPS: an offer can’t be made until your results are there.
  • Paying agents for “slots”: genuine UNIUYO offers appear on JAMB CAPS, and payments go through the portal’s Remita RRR.

If you are planning for the 2027 UTME, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and after the exam use our guide on how to check your JAMB result.
