Maduka University Cut-Off Mark for Law 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Maduka University accepts 150 in the UTME for Law, but the CLE allows only 50 students at 100 level. See the CLE approval, subject rules, Literature trap, fees, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.

The Maduka University cut-off mark for Law is 150 in the UTME, the one minimum Maduka set for all programmes in its 2026/2027 admission notice (reprinted by Myschool, 15 May 2026). Maduka has not published a higher Law cut-off. What limits Law admission is the quota: when the Council of Legal Education (CLE) approved Maduka’s Law programme in September 2024, it allowed 50 students at 100 level.

2027/2028 update: Maduka University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Law at Maduka is on the right lists. The CLE’s “List of Updated Universities Approved” as at August 2026 includes Maduka University, Ekwegbe-Nsukka, and Law appears on the copy of Maduka’s JAMB course list I could read, where it is registered simply as Law. Below are the figures, a safe target score, the subject rules, fees, the CAPS steps and what the CLE approval means for you.

Law at Maduka is new. The CLE approved the programme to begin at its meeting of 27 September 2024, so the first Law students started in the 2024/2025 session at the earliest. There is no long record of scores to study, and the only figure the university has published is 150.

Safe target score for Law at Maduka (my advice)

This is my judgement, not Maduka’s.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Law at Maduka
Below 150Not eligible this session
150 to 179Eligible, but with only 50 places you may be offered another course
180 to 209Competitive at a private university
210 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 200, with credits in English, Literature in English and Mathematics. Fifty places is a small class, and Law is one of the most requested courses in the South East. At that level you also keep UNN Law open as a public option.

What the CLE approval and quota mean for you

To practise as a lawyer in Nigeria you must attend the Nigerian Law School after your LL.B., and the Law School only admits graduates of law faculties the CLE has approved, within their quota. That makes the CLE position more important than any cut-off.

  • Approval: at its third quarterly meeting on 27 September 2024, the CLE approved the accreditation report for Maduka University, Ekwegbe-Nsukka, to begin Law, with a quota of 50 students at 100 level.
  • Condition: the approval required the Faculty of Law to provide staff and student common rooms.
  • Current list: Maduka appears on the CLE’s list of approved universities as at August 2026 (signed 14 August 2026). That list does not repeat the quota.
  • Why quotas bite: at the same 2024 meeting the CLE barred two other universities from admitting Law students for two years for admitting before verification. TheNigeriaLawyer has reported the CLE’s repeated warning that students admitted into unapproved law programmes will not be eligible for Law School.

In practice: make sure your offer is for Law on CAPS, admitted in the normal UTME or Direct Entry way, and keep your admission letter. If Maduka offers you Law after the class looks full, ask whether you are within the CLE quota.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Maduka Law

RequirementLaw
UTME subjectsUse of English plus any three Arts or Social Science subjects (JAMB general rule)
My advice on UTME subjectsMake Literature in English one of the three; many universities insist on it
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Literature in English and Mathematics
SittingsNot stated by Maduka
Direct EntryTwo A level passes in Arts or Social Science subjects, or NCE, ND or a first degree at Second Class Lower
Maduka remark in JAMB brochureNone

These are JAMB’s general requirements for Law as reprinted by Myschool. The page has remarks for over twenty universities, many of which demand Literature in the UTME, but none for Maduka. Since Maduka has not published its own rule, registering Literature in English, Government and CRS or another Arts subject is the safest choice, and it also works for UNN and ESUT if you change institution.

Literature is also where many Law candidates fail at O’level. Check that you have a credit in Literature in English before you register Law.

How Maduka screens Law candidates

Maduka has not announced a post-UTME examination or an aggregate formula for 2026/2027. The notice says the admission portal opened after the 2026 UTME results; reports describe an online form with a ₦5,000 fee. Expect your UTME score, your O’level (especially English, Literature and Mathematics) and your CAPS upload to decide whether you get one of the 50 places.

Worked example

Maduka publishes no aggregate, so I compare each score with the 150 minimum and my 200 target. This is an illustration.

  1. Nkechi scored 214: 214 minus 150 = 64 above the minimum and 14 above my target. With credits in English, Literature and Mathematics in one sitting, she is a strong Law candidate at Maduka.
  2. Obinna scored 171: 171 minus 150 = 21 above the minimum but 29 below my target. He can apply. If the 50 places fill with higher scores, Maduka may offer him International Relations or Mass Communication instead, which he would need to accept on CAPS.
  3. Zainab scored 196 without a Literature credit: her score is fine, but most universities would turn her down for Law on O’level grounds. I would advise her to resit Literature before relying on a Law offer.

Maduka Law fees

Programme2025/2026 (reported)2026/2027 (reported)
Law (LL.B.)₦1,100,000 (AndroidPols)₦1,710,000 (The Vent Republic)
International Relations₦650,000 (Business and Social Sciences)₦800,000
Application form₦5,000₦5,000
Acceptance fee₦50,000₦50,000

Law sits in the highest band after Medicine on the 2026/2027 list, with Nursing and Pharmacy. Reports say fees can be paid 60/40 across the session and feeding is pay as you eat. Neither fee list came from a page I could open on Maduka’s own website, so treat both as reported figures and confirm on the portal before paying.

How to apply for Law at Maduka, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with the right course: Register Law with Use of English and three Arts or Social Science subjects, ideally including Literature in English. Make Maduka University your first choice. If it is not, do a JAMB change of institution before you apply.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre, with every sitting you want counted. Without it the university cannot recommend you on CAPS.
  4. Fill Maduka’s online form: reports describe the steps as creating a profile, uploading your UTME result and O’level, choosing the programme, paying the ₦5,000 form fee and printing the slip. Start from the official website, madukauniversity.edu.ng, and pick Law on the form.
  5. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer there before you pay the school. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  6. Pay acceptance and fees: the acceptance fee is reported as ₦50,000 and non-refundable. Reports say tuition can be paid in two instalments of 60% and 40%. Pay only into accounts shown on the official portal.

Warning

Law has a fixed CLE quota of 50 at Maduka, which makes it a target for people selling “Law slots”. Every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and Maduka takes payments only through its own portal. An admission outside CAPS or above the quota can stop you entering Law School later.

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities. If you are preparing for 2027, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Law at Maduka University

Law is taught in Maduka’s Faculty of Law (some lists call it a College of Law) at the Ekwegbe campus on the Enugu to Nsukka road. The LL.B. normally takes five years in Nigeria, followed by a year at the Nigerian Law School and the Bar Final examination before call to the Bar.

NUC position

Maduka announced full NUC accreditation for seven programmes in July 2026; Law was not among them, and I found no NUC accreditation report for Maduka Law. That is expected for a programme that only started in 2024, because the NUC accredits once students are further along. NUC status: not confirmed. The CLE approval above is the professional approval that decides Law School entry.

What you study

  • Early years: legal methods, Nigerian legal system, constitutional law, contract, and general studies.
  • Core law: criminal law, torts, land law, equity and trusts, commercial law, evidence, jurisprudence and international law.
  • Final years: electives, moot court practice and a long essay.

Other approved Law faculties nearby: the UNN cut-off mark for Law (screens from 160), the ESUT cut-off mark for Law (240) and the Renaissance University cut-off mark for Law (150).

Mistakes Law applicants make

  • No Literature credit: JAMB’s general O’level rule for Law includes it.
  • Treating 150 as safe: with 50 places, a bare pass mark may land you a different course.
  • Ignoring the CLE list: always confirm a university is on the current list before accepting Law anywhere.
  • Accepting an offer outside CAPS: it cannot lead to a valid Law degree.
  • Missing the CAPS course change: if Maduka moves you to another course, accept or reject it on CAPS yourself.

Maduka University cut-off mark for Law: frequently asked questions

Is 180 enough for Law in Maduka University? 180 is above Maduka’s 150 minimum, so you can apply, and it is competitive for a private university. With only 50 places, I would aim for 200 or more.
