The Clifford University cut-off mark for Political Science is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta gives 150 as its general cut-off on its 2026/2027 admission notice, which matches JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and it has not published a separate figure for the B.Sc. in Political Science. Score 150 or more, choose Clifford, and hold five credits including English and Government or History, plus at least a pass in Mathematics, and you can apply.
2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Political Science sits in Clifford’s Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. This page covers the official figures, a safe target score (labelled as my advice), the subject combination, the O’level and Direct Entry rules from both JAMB and Clifford, what is known about screening, the 2026/2027 fees, the CAPS steps and where the degree can take you.
Clifford University cut-off mark for Political Science: the official position
| Item | Position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum for universities (2026/2027) | 150 | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Clifford University general cut-off | 150 | Clifford homepage admission notice, 2026/2027 |

| O’level | Credits in English, Government or History and three others, plus at least a pass in Mathematics | JAMB brochure and Clifford requirements page |
| Approved programme amount 2026/2027 | N825,500 | Clifford fees page |

This page is about Clifford University, the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta, in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 notice says admission is in progress, that the JAMB cut-off is 150, and that students come in through UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. Nothing on the site sets a higher bar for Political Science, so 150 is the figure every UTME applicant for the course must reach.
Clifford Political Science cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Clifford general cut-off, equal to the JAMB minimum | Official: Clifford homepage and JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | A Clifford cut-off for Political Science alone | Never published in any source I reached |
An admissions blog claimed in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates who scored 130 or more but did not choose it first. That post came out before the 2026 UTME, quotes no university notice, and is below the 150 Clifford now states on its own homepage, so I would not plan around 130. News Central also printed the full list of cut-offs institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. Clifford is missing from it, which means there is no separate policy-meeting figure for Clifford to quote.
Safe target score for Political Science at Clifford (my advice)
Clifford is a small private university, and its applicant pool is far smaller than Abia State University’s or UNN’s. Political Science still draws steady interest from candidates who want law, public service or politics, so I would not sit right on the floor. The bands below are my reading as an admissions adviser. Clifford has not published them.
| Your UTME score | My read for Clifford Political Science |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Clifford degree course |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; a clean O’level result and an early application matter most |
| 165 to 189 | Good chance |
| 190 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more. That score also keeps Political Science open at several state universities if Clifford is your back-up plan.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford Political Science
On this course JAMB and Clifford say almost the same thing, which makes planning easy. Here is each rule with its source.
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB) | Use of English, Government or History, plus two other Social Science or Arts subjects | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| UTME subjects (Clifford) | English Language, Government or History plus two other related Social Science or Arts subjects | Clifford requirements page |
| O’level (JAMB) | Five credits including Government or History, English Language and three other subjects, plus a pass in Mathematics | JAMB brochure |
| O’level (Clifford) | Five credits in Government or History, English Language and three other subjects, and at least a pass in Mathematics | Clifford requirements page |
| Sittings | Not more than two | Clifford requirements page |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE) or equivalent | Clifford requirements page |
| Clifford remark in the JAMB brochure | None | Myschool reprint of the brochure |
A combination that satisfies both pages is Use of English, Government, Economics and either Literature in English, History or CRS. Government is the safer core subject because it is what you will build on in 100 level, and most applicants offer it. If you took History in school and not Government, JAMB and Clifford both accept it.
Mathematics needs only a pass for this course on both pages. Many other universities ask for a credit, according to the remarks in the brochure, so if you are applying elsewhere too, a credit in Mathematics keeps more doors open. For the remaining three credits, pick from Economics, Literature in English, CRS, Geography, Civic Education or Commerce.
Direct Entry into Political Science at Clifford
JAMB and Clifford both ask for two A-level passes including Government or History, together with the five O’level credits. Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page adds the practical rules:
- Direct Entry students start at 200 level.
- Every Direct Entry candidate writes a university screening test, except JUPEB candidates.
- You must present a complete transcript or statement of result before admission.
- General studies (GST) courses stay compulsory, and there are no whole-session exemptions.
Clifford’s requirements page for Political Science does not mention ND, HND or NCE routes. If you hold one of those, ask the admissions office directly whether it will be considered before you register for Direct Entry.
Clifford Post-UTME screening for Political Science
Clifford has not published a screening date, form fee or test format for Political Science in any source I could reach. Its own pages confirm two things. The undergraduate requirements page tells applicants to come in “via Post UTME or Direct Entry”, and the Transfer and Direct Entry page says every Direct Entry candidate sits a university screening test, with JUPEB candidates the only exception. Applications go through the portal at soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.
An October 2025 blog post said the form was free and that candidates would write an aptitude test on a date to be announced. Neither claim appears on Clifford’s website, so call the admissions office before you pay anyone for a form.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example compares scores with the 150 floor and my target score. In case a test is set, it also uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME score divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage). The method is my illustration, not Clifford’s.
- Ngozi: UTME 176, credits in English, Government, Economics, Literature in English and CRS in one sitting, with a C6 in Mathematics. She is 26 above the floor and 6 above my target.
- If there is a test: Ngozi scores 62%. 176 divided by 8 is 22; half of 62 is 31. Her illustrative aggregate is 53.
- Emeka: UTME 158 (19.75) and 80% at screening (40). His aggregate is 59.75, ahead of Ngozi with 18 fewer UTME marks.
- Chiamaka: UTME 201, but an F9 in Mathematics. Both JAMB and Clifford require at least a pass, so she cannot be admitted until she fixes that result.
Prepare for short questions on English, current affairs and basic Government in case Clifford sets a paper. The JAMB Government syllabus is a good revision outline for both the UTME and any screening.
Clifford University Political Science school fees and acceptance fee
Clifford posts its approved fees by programme on its website, under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. Political Science appears under the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. The programme figures carry only the label “amount”, so treat each one as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what it covers, especially hostel and feeding.
| Item | Amount (2026/2027) | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance fee | N150,000 | New students, once |
| Matriculation fee | N50,000 | 100 level only |
| Political Science programme amount | N825,500 | Each session |
In 2026/2027 terms, a new 100-level Political Science student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,025,500 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. You can pay the programme amount in full, or 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself, never from a message someone forwards to you.
How to apply for Political Science at Clifford, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Political Science with Use of English, Government or History and two other Social Science or Arts subjects, and pick Clifford University. If Clifford was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the “Apply Now” button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create your account, choose Political Science, fill the form and keep your printout.
- Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Political Science candidates will be screened.
- Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and fees, then clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.
Warning
Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Political Science at Clifford University
Political Science at Clifford is a B.Sc. (Hons.) in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. The usual length in Nigeria is four years from 100 level, or three through Direct Entry; Clifford’s requirements page does not state the duration, so confirm it at screening.
Is Clifford Political Science accredited?
Yes. NUC’s accreditation report for Clifford’s Political Science programme shows Full accreditation with a score of 93.12%, after a panel visit from 18 to 21 November 2024. Political Science was not among the eight newer programmes Clifford announced as fully accredited in March 2023; this result came later and is from NUC’s own report. Accreditation affects NYSC mobilisation and postgraduate admission, so confirm with the department that the status is still current before you pay.
What you will study
Clifford has not posted a course outline online. Political Science degrees in Nigeria usually cover:

- Nigeria and Africa: Nigerian government and politics, federalism, local government and African politics.
- Comparative and global politics: comparative government, international relations and foreign policy.
- Public policy: public administration, policy analysis and political economy.
- Method: research methods, statistics for social sciences and a final-year project.
Graduates work in the civil service, electoral and governance bodies, NGOs, the media, political parties and campaign teams, policy research and teaching. Many go on to a master’s degree, or to Law as a second degree.

Mistakes Political Science applicants make
- Treating 150 as admission: it is only the minimum to be considered.
- Leaving out Government and History: one of them must be in your UTME subjects and your O’level credits.
- Ignoring Mathematics: a pass is the minimum, and an F9 blocks you however high your score.
- Using three sittings: Clifford accepts not more than two.
- Stopping at CAPS acceptance: you still pay the acceptance fee and complete clearance.
