The Clifford University cut-off mark for International Relations is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta gives 150 as its general cut-off on the 2026/2027 admission notice, matching JAMB’s minimum for universities, and there is no separate published figure for International Relations. What catches applicants out is the O’level: Clifford wants credits in Mathematics and a science subject on top of English and Government or History, which is stricter than JAMB’s general rule.
2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
International Relations is in Clifford’s Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. This guide sets out the official figures, a safe target score (labelled as my advice), a UTME combination that fits JAMB and Clifford together, the O’level and Direct Entry rules, what is known about screening, the 2026/2027 fees, the CAPS steps and the careers the degree leads to.

| Clifford cut-off for International Relations | Not published separately | No course-level figure on any official page |
| Departmental merit list | Not published | Clifford does not release last admitted scores |
| Safe UTME combination | Use of English, Economics, Literature in English and Government | Fits JAMB brochure and Clifford page (my advice) |
| O’level (Clifford) | Credits in English, Mathematics, one science, Government or History and two others | Clifford requirements page |
| Approved programme amount 2026/2027 | N825,500 | Clifford fees page |
| NUC accreditation | Not confirmed | Not in the eight programmes Clifford announced in 2023 |
This page is about Clifford University at Ihie, near Owerrinta in Abia State, a private university owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The 2026/2027 notice on its homepage says admission is in progress, the JAMB cut-off is 150, and students come in by UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. Nothing on the site sets a different bar for International Relations.
Clifford International Relations cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Clifford general cut-off, equal to the JAMB minimum | Official: Clifford homepage and JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | A Clifford cut-off for International Relations alone | Never published in any source I reached |
An admissions blog claimed in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates who scored 130 or more but did not choose it first. That post came out before the 2026 UTME, quotes no university notice, and is below the 150 Clifford now states on its own homepage, so I would not plan around 130. News Central also printed the full list of cut-offs institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. Clifford is missing from it, which means there is no separate policy-meeting figure for Clifford to quote.
Safe target score for International Relations at Clifford (my advice)
International Relations attracts candidates who want diplomacy, international organisations or security work. Competition at Clifford is lighter than at big public universities, but I would not apply with a score just over the floor and a thin O’level. These bands are my view; Clifford has not published them.
| Your UTME score | My read for Clifford International Relations |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Clifford degree course |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; complete O’level credits and an early application matter most |
| 165 to 189 | Good chance |
| 190 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more, which also keeps the course open at several state universities in the South East.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford International Relations
JAMB and Clifford describe this course differently. JAMB names specific subjects; Clifford gives a looser UTME rule but a tighter O’level. Here is each requirement with its source.
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB) | Use of English, Economics, Literature in English and Geography, Government or History | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| UTME subjects (Clifford) | Government or History plus two other Social Science or Arts subjects | Clifford requirements page |
| O’level (JAMB) | Five credits including English Language, Government or History and three relevant subjects | JAMB brochure |
| O’level (Clifford) | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, one science subject, Government or History and two other subjects | Clifford requirements page |
| Sittings | Not more than two | Clifford requirements page |
| Clifford remark in the JAMB brochure | None | Myschool reprint of the brochure |
The combination I would register is Use of English, Economics, Literature in English and Government. It matches JAMB’s list exactly, and it meets Clifford’s rule because Government is your core subject and Economics and Literature are your two Social Science or Arts subjects. History in place of Government also works on both pages. Geography is allowed by JAMB, but Clifford’s rule needs Government or History, so do not use Geography as your only core subject.
For the O’level, Clifford’s list adds two things JAMB’s general rule does not name: a credit in Mathematics and a credit in one science subject such as Biology or Agricultural Science. A strong UTME score will not cover a missing credit in either, so check your result slip before you apply. Good choices for your last two credits are Economics, Literature in English, CRS or Geography.
Direct Entry into International Relations at Clifford
Clifford asks for two A-level passes in Government and History, and its page adds that Direct Entry candidates must also meet the UTME O’level requirements, Mathematics and science credits included. JAMB’s general Direct Entry rule is wider: two A-level passes in Social Science subjects from Government or History, Economics, Sociology and Business Management. Clifford’s own pairing is the safer target if Clifford is your choice.
- Direct Entry students start at 200 level.
- Every Direct Entry candidate writes Clifford’s screening test, except JUPEB candidates.
- You must submit a complete transcript or statement of result before admission.
- GST courses stay compulsory, and there are no whole-session exemptions.
Clifford does not mention ND, HND or NCE routes for this course. Ask the admissions office before you register for Direct Entry with one of those.
Clifford Post-UTME screening for International Relations
Clifford has not published a screening date, form fee or test format for International Relations in any source I could reach. Its own pages confirm two things. The undergraduate requirements page tells applicants to come in “via Post UTME or Direct Entry”, and the Transfer and Direct Entry page says every Direct Entry candidate sits a university screening test, with JUPEB candidates the only exception. Applications go through the portal at soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.
An October 2025 blog post said the form was free and that candidates would write an aptitude test on a date to be announced. Neither claim appears on Clifford’s website, so call the admissions office before you pay anyone for a form.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example compares scores with the 150 floor and my target score. In case a test is set, it also uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME score divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage). The method is my illustration, not Clifford’s.
- Obinna: UTME 178, credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Government, Economics and Literature in English in one sitting. He is 28 above the floor and 8 above my target.
- If there is a test: Obinna scores 58%. 178 divided by 8 is 22.25; half of 58 is 29. His illustrative aggregate is 51.25.
- Ifeoma: UTME 161 (20.125) and 76% at screening (38). Her aggregate is 58.125, ahead of Obinna with 17 fewer UTME marks.
- Uchenna: UTME 205 and credits in English, Mathematics, Government, Economics and Literature, but no science credit. That meets JAMB’s general rule but misses Clifford’s list, so he should ask the department before applying or add a science credit.
If Clifford sets a paper, expect English, current affairs and general knowledge about world events, regional bodies such as ECOWAS and the AU, and Nigeria’s foreign policy.
Clifford University International Relations school fees and acceptance fee
Clifford posts its approved fees by programme on its website, under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. International Relations appears under the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. The programme figures carry only the label “amount”, so treat each one as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what it covers, especially hostel and feeding.
| Item | Amount (2026/2027) | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance fee | N150,000 | New students, once |
| Matriculation fee | N50,000 | 100 level only |
| International Relations programme amount | N825,500 | Each session |
In 2026/2027 terms, a new 100-level International Relations student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,025,500 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. You can pay the programme amount in full, or 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself, never from a message someone forwards to you.
How to apply for International Relations at Clifford, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose International Relations with Use of English, Economics, Literature in English and Government, and pick Clifford University. If Clifford was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the “Apply Now” button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create your account, choose International Relations, fill the form and keep your printout.
- Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how International Relations candidates will be screened.
- Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and fees, then clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.
Warning
Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying International Relations at Clifford University
International Relations at Clifford is a B.Sc. (Hons.) programme in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. The usual length in Nigeria is four years, or three through Direct Entry; Clifford’s requirements page does not state it.
Is Clifford International Relations accredited?
Not confirmed. International Relations was not among the eight programmes Clifford said received full NUC accreditation in March 2023. That announcement described them as “eight more”, so some older courses had been accredited earlier, but I found no NUC result for this programme. Ask the department for its NUC status before you pay.
What you will study
Clifford has not put its course outline online. International Relations degrees in Nigeria usually cover:
- Theory: introduction to international relations, theories of international politics and diplomacy.
- Foreign policy: Nigerian foreign policy, comparative foreign policy and African international relations.
- Institutions: international organisations such as the UN, AU and ECOWAS, and international law.
- Economy and security: international political economy, conflict and peace studies, and strategic studies.
- Method: research methods, statistics and a final-year project.
Graduates work in foreign service and government ministries, international and regional organisations, NGOs and humanitarian agencies, security and risk analysis, international trade, journalism and teaching. Many take a master’s degree in diplomacy, strategic studies or international law.

Mistakes International Relations applicants make
- No Mathematics or science credit: Clifford lists both, even though JAMB’s general rule does not.
- Geography as the only core subject: Clifford’s rule needs Government or History.
- Wrong A-levels for Direct Entry: Clifford asks for Government and History.
- Using three sittings: Clifford accepts not more than two.
- Stopping at CAPS acceptance: you still pay the acceptance fee and complete clearance.
Revising for the UTME? Our JAMB Government syllabus and JAMB Economics syllabus cover two of the four subjects in the combination above.
