IMT Cut-Off Mark for Computer Science 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

The IMT cut off mark for Computer Science is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100; IMT publishes no departmental figure. See the safe target score, why IMT requires Physics in the UTME, the O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The IMT cut off mark for Computer Science is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has not published a higher departmental figure for Computer Science, so 100 is the official floor, and anything else you read is either old or a guess.

2027/2028 update: IMT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Computer Science is one of the most requested ND courses at IMT, and JAMB’s brochure has two IMT rules that change how you should register: IMT requires Physics in the UTME, and it accepts a pass (not only a credit) in Physics at O’level. Below are the official figures, the old 120 blogs repeat, my safe target, the subjects, how screening has run, two worked examples, each CAPS step, and where IMT’s newly announced Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security courses fit.

IMT cut-off mark history for Computer Science

IMT does not publish course-by-course cut-off marks for its ND programmes. The history below is the national floor that applies to every polytechnic, plus one older IMT figure that still circulates on blogs.

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027100JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnicsOfficial (NAN, 11 May 2026)
2025/2026100JAMB national minimum for polytechnicsOfficial (Nairametrics and Channels TV, 8 July 2025)
2023 UTME120IMT’s own ND screening threshold in a 2023 noticeOld; reprinted on blogs under 2026 headings

The 120 on many blogs comes from IMT’s 2023 ND screening notice, signed by the Registrar at the time. Some sites now print it under 2026/2027 headings, but no 2026 IMT notice repeats it. The figure that has held for two sessions running is JAMB’s 100. For a course as crowded as Computer Science, the real competition sits well above either number.

Safe target score for Computer Science at IMT (my advice)

The bands below are my judgement as an admissions adviser. IMT has not published anything like them, so use them for planning only.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Computer Science at IMT
Below 100Not eligible for any polytechnic, IMT included
100 to 129Eligible to apply, but a long shot for this course
130 to 149Possible with strong credits in Mathematics and English
150 to 169Competitive
170 and aboveStrong for Computer Science at IMT

I put Computer Science among IMT’s three most competitive ND courses, with Civil and Electrical/Electronics Engineering. IMT has not published applicant numbers, so take that as my reading of how ICT courses fill at South East polytechnics. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 150, ideally 170.

If your score lands between 100 and 130, Statistics at IMT is the fallback I would look at first. It is also Mathematics-heavy and, in my view, faces less pressure. Check its own brochure entry before you rely on that.

Catchment and state of origin

IMT is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its home catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. IMT has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for its ND courses, so do not plan around a formula it has never announced. Your UTME score, your O’level grades in the core subjects and how early your documents are complete count for more.

IMT Computer Science subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementComputer Science (ND) at IMT
General UTME ruleUse of English, Mathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics or Chemistry
IMT remark (UTME)IMT requires Physics, so your two must include Physics
UTME combinations that work for IMTEnglish, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry; or English, Mathematics, Physics, Economics; or English, Mathematics, Physics, Geography
O’levelFive credits: Mathematics, a basic science and three others from Economics, Geography, Government or History, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, English Language, Typewriting
English Language and PhysicsThe general rule makes credits in both compulsory
IMT remark (O’level)IMT accepts a pass in Physics
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE)
Direct EntryNot used for ND. HND entry is with a relevant ND through IMT’s HND form

Many guides print the general Computer Science combination and stop there. For IMT that can cost you a place: if you register Mathematics, Economics and Geography with no Physics, you meet the general rule but not IMT’s. The combination I would register is English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. It satisfies IMT’s rule and keeps the engineering courses open as a CAPS fallback.

Biology is not among the UTME options for Computer Science at all, so a Biology, Chemistry and Physics science student needs to swap Biology for Mathematics. At O’level, Biology still counts as a basic science.

IMT’s Physics rules for Computer Science, explained

JAMB’s Computer Science entry has two remarks naming IMT (listed as IMTE). The UTME remark says IMT requires Physics. The O’level remark puts IMT alongside Adamawa State Polytechnic and Abia State Polytechnic as schools that accept a pass in Physics.

Put together: you must sit Physics in the UTME, but a D7 or E8 in Physics at O’level does not shut you out of IMT, provided your five credits still include English Language, Mathematics and a basic science such as Chemistry or Biology. You still need a credit in English. Brochure entries change, so check the current Computer Science entry for IMT Enugu on your JAMB e-Facility profile before you register.

Direct Entry and HND

There is no Direct Entry into the first year of an ND, so every ND Computer Science place goes through the UTME and JAMB CAPS. HND Computer Science is a separate stage: reprints of IMT’s HND notice ask for a relevant ND with a CGPA of at least 2.50, or a lower CGPA backed by two years of verifiable industrial experience, and the application goes through IMT’s own HND form. Those HND details come from reprints, so confirm them on the portal. Our IMT HND admission guide covers that route.

How IMT screening works for ND Computer Science

IMT’s website links a notice titled “Call for 2026/2027 admission into ND and HND programs (regular and part-time)”, and applications run through the SLMS application page on portal.imt.edu.ng. The admission result checker is on the same portal. The 2026/2027 screening fee, dates and test format were not in any official source I could open, so the table separates what is confirmed from what is only reported.

Worked example for a Computer Science applicant

IMT has not published an aggregate formula for ND admission. Some blogs print one, but none cites an IMT document, so this example only measures the gap between a UTME score, the national floor and my safe target, then checks the O’level against the brochure.

Take Somto, who scored 171 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and has, from one WAEC sitting, B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, D7 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry, C6 in Economics and C4 in Biology.

  1. Eligibility: 171 minus 100 = 71. He is well clear of JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 171 minus 150 = 21. He is in the strong band.
  3. O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Economics and Biology make five, with a basic science included. His Physics is only a pass, which IMT accepts.
  4. What I would advise: keep Computer Science at IMT. At most other polytechnics his D7 in Physics would be a problem, so IMT is a good choice for him.

Adaeze scored 141 with English, Mathematics, Economics and Geography. She has strong credits from one sitting, but she has no Physics in the UTME, which IMT requires for Computer Science. On score she is 41 above the floor and 9 below my target, but the subject gap is the bigger problem: CAPS can only offer her courses whose UTME rules she meets. Her subjects are fixed once she has sat the exam, so I would advise her to look at an IMT course that accepts her combination, or a polytechnic whose Computer Science entry does not require Physics, and to register Physics next year if IMT Computer Science is still her goal.

How to apply for Computer Science at IMT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Check the IMT course list: during registration, open the IMT Enugu list on JAMB’s e-brochure. Computer Science is on the list as reprinted by Myschool; make sure it still shows when you register.
  3. Register for the UTME: Choose Computer Science with English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Chemistry, Economics or Geography, and pick IMT Enugu as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school first, a JAMB change of institution is possible before IMT screening closes, and a JAMB change of course fixes a wrong course.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. If your result was awaiting at registration, upload it as soon as it is out.
  5. Fill IMT’s screening form: when the admission call appears on imt.edu.ng, apply on portal.imt.edu.ng, enter your JAMB registration number, pay through the channel the portal names and print your slip.
  6. Check your result and CAPS: use the result checker on the IMT portal, then log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and open CAPS.
  7. Accept within four weeks: JAMB set four weeks for 2026 offers. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put IMT’s acceptance fee at ₦25,000, but IMT has not published it in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice from the IMT portal.

Warning

Every genuine IMT offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling an “IMT Computer Science slot” or a special list is not part of the process. Pay fees only through invoices generated on portal.imt.edu.ng.

Your chances of getting Computer Science at IMT

JAMB’s 100 only gets you into screening. Computer Science draws a large number of applicants, and many of them will be in the 150s and 160s.

Your UTME score is fixed once results are out, so the part you still control is the O’level. Upload every result to CAPS, make sure English and Mathematics show as credits, and do not add a third sitting.

Computer Science is also on IMT’s part-time list, which suits a candidate who already works. Part-time students take the same ND over a longer period. Confirm the current part-time terms on the portal before you apply.

Studying Computer Science at IMT Enugu

Computer Science is one of IMT’s longer-running courses. It appears on IMT’s course list in JAMB’s brochure, on the reprinted HND list and on IMT’s part-time course page, so both the ND and the HND are on offer. IMT’s own page for the department was not available to me, so I have not named the school it sits in.

In June 2026 the Rector said IMT had introduced eight new programmes, naming Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security and Computer Engineering among them. None of the three is on IMT’s JAMB list yet. For a 2027 UTME candidate interested in any of them, ND Computer Science is the safest IMT choice today. Our pages on IMT Artificial Intelligence and IMT Computer Engineering explain where those stand.

What you study

IMT has not put its course outline for this programme online, so the list below describes what ND Computer Science generally covers in Nigerian polytechnics. Ask the department for its own outline at registration.

  • Programming: introduction to programming, structured programming and object-oriented programming in languages such as C, Java or Python.
  • Systems: computer hardware, operating systems, networking and data communication.
  • Data and the web: database design, file organisation, web development and systems analysis.
  • Mathematics: logic, discrete mathematics, statistics and numerical methods.
  • Practical work: SIWES placement with an ICT unit, a software company or a bank’s IT department.

Accreditation

At IMT’s Global Homecoming on 13 June 2026, the Rector, Prof. Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, said all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited, after more than 70% of programmes had lost accreditation by the time he took office in 2024. An NBTE accreditation team visited in November 2025. NBTE has not published a programme-by-programme result for Computer Science at IMT that I could find, so its individual status is not confirmed. Ask the department to show it during clearance if this matters to you.

Careers

  • Junior software or web developer
  • IT support, network or systems technician
  • Database or data entry supervisor in banks, hospitals and government offices
  • Computer instructor in schools and training centres
  • Further study to HND, or a degree in Computer Science or a related field

Computing professionals in Nigeria register with the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), known as CPN. Its membership grades and requirements are set by the council, so check them directly once you finish your ND or HND.

If you are writing the UTME again, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and see what to do with your JAMB score once results are out.

Mistakes that cost Computer Science applicants an IMT place

  • Treating 100 as admission: it only makes you eligible to apply.
  • Planning with the old 120: that comes from a 2023 notice.
  • Leaving out Physics in the UTME: IMT requires it for Computer Science even though the general rule does not.
  • Registering Biology: it is not a UTME option for Computer Science.
  • Missing an English credit: IMT’s Physics concession does not extend to English.
  • Buying a “slot”: offers come only through CAPS and the IMT portal.

IMT cut off mark for Computer Science: frequently asked questions
